Right click on account name and select "Manage IMAP Folders".
Then Right click on the folder you want to download messages from and Select
Download Mode/Own Settings and then set to download entire message.

Thanks for that Miguel but it seems that NOT SELECTING is the default. When I
choose to see the RFC-822 header information, my preview window suddenly has two
new tabs at the bottom, one named HEADERS and the other named TEXT. Clicking on
the HEADERS tab shows only the header information in the preview pane. I have to
click on TEXT to see the actual message preview.

However, thanks to your superior knowledge in the intricacies of all things TB!,
you have led me to the solution. To wit: ALL of the resulting hits in the search
were all sent as HTML files. Guess what my default browser is. That's right,
Chrome. All of the HTML files contain one or more instances of the string
"google" thereby meeting the search criteria.

So, many thanks Miguel. It would have taken me quite a while to suss this out
without your help.

If I set the search criteria to SENDER then I get only those messages where the
sender is actually "google". "ANY PART" returns 98 messages whereas TEXT returns
only 90 messages so that seems to validate what you're saying.

How would one go about de-selecting VIEW RFC-822 headers? It's most annoying the

Thanks!

One reason I'm thinking of upgrading is that I read you can now resize images
in version 8. It's always bothered me that I couldn't do this.

I'm currently using the new version as a trial, as my license apparently doesn't
carry over to this version, but I can't find how to do the resizing when
inserting a picture.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

The standard way of threading is by the References header.

TB! has nine threading options, seven of which ignore the Subject
header.

I'm not sure you can edit the Subject within TB! for an incoming or
received message. [0] shows an example of two filters and a batch
command to export the message, edit in a text editor, and import the
message back to TB!. Note it is called "Editing received messages
without changing the headers" so you might need to adapt it to be able
to edit the Subject header.

If you want to automatically clean the subject line when you reply to
their messages, you could probably adapt the example at [1] for your needs.

I also received that one, but it is different. It pertains to Google+
which, as you quote, will be shutting down. The "March 31st" date
mentioned in this message, is when they suggest you start downloading
your content, if you don't want to loose it.

I'd bet they *did* contain the string, most probably in the headers.
Most of which are not shown/displayed unless you select View/RFC-822
headers. This is so because "ANY PART" means exactly that, any part of
the message (the whole message) even if some part(s) are not normally
displayed.

As I said above, they suggest you start saving/downloading G+ content
*before* March 31st.

Re: Reset Gmail

2019-02-02 Thread Richard L de S Clauson
Hi Richard,

Just catching up with emails in this folder, hence the very late response.

You have set up the GMail account in TB! as a POP3 account (not an IMAP4
account). This means that as TB! has not messages already from this mail
server it will go and download everything in the InBox from start to end,
and that is exactly what you are reporting TB! to be doing.

NOTE: Be aware that TB!, using its default settings, can then possibly
delete all messages from the mail server (GMail in this case) older than 30
days!!!

I'd not heard of the "recent:" prefix before, and haven't Googled about it,
but I suspect, based on some of the other replies, that it may be an IMAP4
feature.

Hope that helps?

Thanks for your detailed instructions and the effort you put into send the
instructions.

The technique didn't work for "New messages only"; it brought down 400-500
messages for from 2014. Even if I had TB download "All Messages" it brought
down a newer 400-500 messages from 2014.

So I went into the original GMail account and archived all messages earlier
than yesterday. Now the downloading for that account is only downloading recent
messages as I would expect it to.

Once again, thanks for your input.

Strange. It works for my old gmail account that I rarely use.

I think "recent:" only means that the client (TB! in this case) should
download mails that have already been viewed by other clients. So, I
am surprised that all the old mails were being downloaded when you
took it out... Google works in mysterious ways.

Try this: Account / Dispatcher / New messages only

TB! will download all headers of mails it would download; download
would start if you hit that botton on the top left. However, don't do
that. You have four columns (Read, Receive, Delete, Open), and they
can be toggled with crtl-1, crtl-2 etc.

Leave the tickmark at Read for all messages but hit crtl-2 to clear
the tickmark from Receive. The effect is that TB! will mark all
messages as Read, so it won't download them again next time, but it
won't actually download any messages.

You can go to the bottom and manually click and add the tickmark again
on those messages that you do want to receive now. Only those will be
downloaded.

Now, hit that down-arrow on the top-left corner.

This is how it works with "normal" POP accounts. It should work with
Gmail, but who knows what other "user-friendly" unintuitive ideas
Google has come up with.

At Account | Properties | Transport, in the "Receive Mail" part of the

Try switching from The Bat's internal implementation to Microsoft
CryptoAPI - that way TB will use Windows certificate store, which gets
regular updates instead of relying on it's own (which might be
out-of-date, especially if you have an older version of TB).

You can switch that in Options -> S/MIME and TLS…

I think you have the toolbar with the icons, but you are missing the
one with the words (i.e. the Main Menu), is that correct?

Try this:

Once you right-click on any toolbar icon and select Customise, you
have under tab "Menues and Toolbars" the tab "Containers".

In that tab, you have the container "Main Menu". Here you can create
it and add the menu items you want to see.

If your Main menu has disappeared, how the heck did click on Workspace
and Message auto-view?

Anyway, I assume you have never done any customisation of your menus

Thanks!
I already got suggestions in a PM by Alexander Petrari and did so.
It helped, the problem is solved.
(Creating a new folder, copying all messages from the problem folder
to it, removing the message base from the problem folder after closing
TB, and after starting TB again, moving the messages back).

A minute ago I did what you suggested, and there were 2 corrupted
folders found and repaired of which I didn't know. Would be nice to
have that e.g. in a weekly schedule at closing or starting TB.

Hi Feli,

thanks for the response. I don't even need to keep the emails as I
have them all on a different pc where I will continue to use POP.
On this new set up I am only interested in using IMAP and thought
there is way to change the setting so that in future for these email
accounts IMAP is used instead of Pop. Basically you say I need
to set up the accounts fresh as IMAP accounts - that's fine, just will

Yes, there is. But if I uncheck that, the respective folder disappears

There is no listing of "MyFolder" in "Manage folders", only (!) of

We release major The Bat! versions approximately every 12-24 months regardless
of the sub-version number. The currently sold licenses for v8 will not be
accepted by v9 when it is released. For the past versions we did post

Currently we are still working on v8.

I find it a little disappointing that yours was the only response (for which I
am grateful BTW) to my query.

Since the original post it has happened again but this time I noticed that the
address book she *was* using was replaced by one named "Personal Address Book".
If you right-click on that name at the top of the address book tree and select
Properties it displays STORED IN FILE:

C:\Users\June\AppData\Roaming\The Bat!\TheBat.ABD

I believe that file is the original TB! address book which is of course empty
when TB! is first installed.

When she got her own computer I created separate address book files with her
email addresses only, excluding mine. I named those address books something
along the lines of "June's address" or just simply "June". I'm beginning to
suspect that for reasons unknown, TB! will, on it's own, revert back to the
original address book, TheBat.ABD regardless of which address book she happens
to be using.

With that in mind I used TB's address book window to copy all the addresses from
the self-made address books into the one called Personal Address Book which in
File Manager is called TheBat.ABD. I then deleted the other self-made address
books leaving only TheBat.ABD in C:\Users\June\AppData\Roaming\The Bat!\.

With the other address books no longer in existence I'm hoping the next time TB!
decides to teach me a lesson, it won't have non-native address books to deal
with. Time will tell.

Again, thanks for your response.

So my "solution" was shut down TB!, move the directories for the accounts I
didn't want to be loaded into some other directory, then followed Adrian's
suggestion:

3. Open the Registry editor via "Start -> Run -> regedit -> OK"
(press Windows+R to invoke "Run") and under
 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\...\ rename "RIT" into "RIT_1".

And then started up TB!. I had to go through that quick set up sequence, but
the accounts I didn't want to load are not loaded and, so far, no duplicate
accounts. It's not the most ideal approach, but it is effective, so I'll take
it.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I'm convinced when I had an account that appeared twice, the solution
I used was to add a new account with a similar name, then close down
TB!, then (in Windows Explorer) copy all files from the old account's
folder to the new account's folder, then start TB!, delete the old
account from the account list, and rename the new one to have the same
name.

> But why do the duplicates happen in the first place?

I don't know. It only happened once for me so far with an account.
I also had it with address books just after moving to a new computer.

I think you can add scheduled checking for new mail in the Scheduler
tool, with check-boxes to select the accounts. But that would be
independent of the settings in each account's properties.

That is tricky when they are duplicated in the account tree. The files
on the hard disk are safe, but assume account X is duplicated. Either all
of the duplicates for
account X get deleted or none of them. But sometimes only the one
highlighted when you select "delete".

Deleting the account.cfg and doing the registry edits fixes it (except
the account tree is now in a different order) for the
first time The Bat is started afterwards, but the duplicates come back
some time later and on subsequent restarts of The Bat.

But why do the duplicates happen in the first place?

I could try a different PC with Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Windows
10 Pro, but is there a way to set either "ignore check all accounts"
and/or reset all accounts so that no scheduled checking for new mail
happens in one place without having to go into the properties of each
account one at a time?

You can delete the accounts you don't want shown. TB! gives you the
choice to leave the account files on disk, so that you could later
re-add the account and still have the old messages and folders.

Ihave a similar problem, but it's more than one account (but NOT
all of them) that gets shown multiple times in the account tree.

These instructions direct from Ritlabs actually worked to remove the
duplicates, but has the side effect of changing the order. It also
only seems to be a temporary fix as some accounts have started to be shown
multiple times again.

That is normal. The "sender" is the mailing list itself.
What is important is what are in "From" and "reply-to". The "from"
should be the individual person who made the post. The "reply-to" is
normally the list address, but some have that as the actual person who
made the post.

Actually - looking again, it's a mess!! I see messages in the list
that TB says are from me but, when I click on them, I see Maria or
Roelof are the actual senders in the From address on TBOT. I see a
transition in another list over the new year. A late December message
shows the "From" in an almost correct manner while a message from the
same individual in the same format with very similar headers is just
showing the list address as the "From".

I am adding a confirmation to the bug report.

Apologies for my incorrect analysis in the first place!

It's still a shame the bug

That is a pity as it gives false information. The messages are sent
_to_ the list, they do not originate _from_ the list.

Will it make this list suffer from the bug that was introduced in TB! 8.2,
which I reported at ? Not
being able to see from the message list display who posted which
message is a major irritation on lists affected by that bug.

Not specifically Outlook, but it would nice if The Bat actually lets
you choose a specific application for specific file types. Using file
associations is a problem in Windows 10 because they keep getting
reverted to "Windows defaults". I notice it most with PDFs when
suddenly Edge starts instead of the program I actually specified.

My firewall traps Outlook, but every so often, that tries to start.
Strangely setting The Bat as my default email client does NOT get

I use my phone email client to handle .ics files, as it displays them
in an easy to read format, and adds them to my Google calendar,
handling the invite response effectively too. It would be good it TB!
could do something similar (if just the display of the invite in a

It's not intuitive putting the quote _before_ the new text.

But that aside, the duplicates have returned during the night. They
were gone. I wonder if it's the periodic checking (in my case, most
are att 30 minutes, but some at 60 minutes and some at even longer
intervals) for new mail or the automated backup that causes them.
All my mail accounts use POP.

I actually have The Bat version 8.5 (current), but I don't think
it'sthis specific version. They were definiely there in 8.4 and
possibly earlier. I had moved all the mail accounts to the bottom, so
I only noticed the problem when I add some new ones recently.

A very helpful person t Ritlabs gave me a solution:

Close The Bat

Delete the AccOder.cfg file
Regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\...\ rename "RIT" into "RIT_1".
Restart The Bat and change the "user-defined directory" accordingly

The drawback is, the order of the entries change, but at least the
duplicates are gone.

Im not sure yet whether directly editing that cfg file would let me
specify the actual order of entries in the tree.

in the meantime, I have started reorganising using "move up" and "move
down" within the program itself.

These are called iCalendar files, normally saved in .ics files and usually they
should look like an attachment of this type. The format is similar to vCard
files, except that they contain calendar items instead of address book items.

Maybe they can come up with a viewer for these that displays the most important
information like subject, description, localised date and time, attendees
(people invited) and whether it is a recurring appointment, like this one. You
can tell by the RRULE lines which indicate a yearly recurrence on the first
Sunday of april and oktober.

Assuming you are using POP to download your messages from your Gmail
account, within The Bat! go to Account Options | Transport tab |
Receive Mail section and add "recent:" (without quotes, and with no
space after the colon) to the front of your user name. Gmail should
then not download messages more than 30 days old. (Make sure to add it
only for the POP settings, not the SMTP.)

For more info, try googling something like "gmail recent mode".

No it is not, because I don't want TB! to continue with other filters.
There might one that is lower in the list; sorting my filters is
something I am careful with.

I would think that sub-filters are always checked (in the order of the
subfilters) even if "continue..." is not checked, as otherwise they
are inactive.

> Also, why the two-step process? You could do away with the first
> filter and move messages straight from Account A Inbox to the required

I think this would be the solution. However, here is the reason why I
have the two-step process:

The email address is an alias of a main email address. So, while it is
a different address, it is really the same mailbox. This made sense
when only a few messages arrived there. However, the volume is
increasing so that I first had sub-folders, and now an entire account
(which does not check emails).

The main filter for this is triggered by that alias email address in
Headers, and then the subfilters are supposed to sort into the
different folders in that new dummy account.

Thinking about it, it is unlikely that someone uses my main email
address with a Header that is used as a trigger in the subfilters. So
I will take this way and change the subfilters to be main filters.

Thanks for this tip!

> I did away with per-account filters long ago and switched to Common

These mails only arrive in that one main account, and the account they
are filtered into is a dummy account. I would like to make it a main
account but will have to check with GMX whether they can do it. If I
just delete the alias from the main account and then try to create a
new account with that address, GMX will block that address from being
created for a certain time, I believe. And then I cannot receive any
mails, which would be a problem.

Is the option "continue processing with other filters" selected in
your filter that moves the messages to Account B?

Also, why the two-step process? You could do away with the first
filter and move messages straight from Account A Inbox to the required
folder in Account B.

I did away with per-account filters long ago and switched to Common
filters instead, which I find far easier. I would suggest giving them

Shift Ctrl Alt L didn't fix the problem. Looks like I need to delete
the duplicates manually and recreate them Deleting one will probably
delete all the others with the same name in the account tree.
I have backups anywa and the addected accounts are on my own domains,
so no issues with "forgot password" routines.

Maybe they have been there a long time, but my first suspect for the
cause is the forced updates in Windows 10 Pro.

Thank you Thomas, the issue has not returned and I have had many years
trouble free enjoyment from this elderly version, I will put it down
to "one of those things" :)

I had that with an account a few years ago. I deleted the account from
TB", selecting the option to keep the account files on disk. Then I
created a "new" account with the same name and pointed it to the
existing account files. (First I made a copy of the account files in
case anything went wrong.)

Try shift-crtl-alt-L. This will usually find lost folders on the
harddisk, I don't know whether it will also delete duplicate
folders/accounts.

I cannot confirm this; sometimes a mail cannot be sent and then it
won't be sent, and TB! will leave it in the Outbox. In your case, the
mail was sent but it still remained in the Outbox. That is weird.

But, I have 8 GB of RAM on my laptop. I don't believe lack of RAM is the
problem here. This can happen with just a few windows open.

This can happen in the same session several times in a row, and then not
happen. There is no consistency.

Any other ideas?

I have experienced it a few times, not often. Only on my home

This sound exactly like what I want to do with one particular folder!
How would I force just the messages that get sorted into this folder to show as
"text" with the macro?

Thanks in advance
