Well all I can tell you is that I have several other IMAP connections to Gmail
which work fine and the Starred and Snoozed labels appear find in the Manage
IMAP folders dialog in TB. See attached.

Looking at the image you attached, what are you expecting to see in TB! from

"Starred" and "Snoozed" are folders, they're just Gmail filters. I'm not sure

Yes I've done both, the problem is that the folder list on the TB side is only

When using IMAP, basic filtering (moving messages, auto-forwarding, marking
as read, flagging, ) is often performed on the server. Each service
provider has a different interface to filters. If, based on your email,
you're using GMX, they have documentation about how their filters work at
https://support.gmx.com/email/filter-rules/index.html#breadcrumb_help_email_filter-rules_about

If you're using a different provider, you'll need to check their help pages
for details.

The advantage of moving them to the server is that all your clients--from
multiple copies of The Bat! on different machines to your mobile phone--will
see the same messages in the same folders.

Oh - it is a complete recreation. Like I said, It took me ages. But I

But it really was such a worthwhile exercise in terms of multi-device

That's because it's IMAP.

Wikipedia tells us (amongst other things) that:

When using POP, clients typically connect to the e-mail server briefly, only
as
long as it takes to download new messages. When using IMAP4, clients often
stay
connected as long as the user interface is active and download message
content
on demand. For users with many or large messages, this IMAP4 usage pattern
can
   result in faster response times.

and that:

IMAP4 clients need to maintain a TCP/IP connection to the IMAP server in
order
to be notified of the arrival of new mail.

So I think it just comes with the change in protocol

I mean within TB itself. Filters and templates - copy / paste. It's

Right click on your account name and Select Manage IMAP folders. There you can
choose which folders you want to subscribe to. Just un-select the ones you
don't
want.

That dosn't seem possible either: In Account/Manage IMAP folders there

Not good - but I am sorry I don't see any problems over here with all
my IMAP accounts and TheBat! with recent 32bit version

Are you shure this isn't a connection problem (Internet) or a problem

Perhaps you give more information: Which version of TheBat!, 64 or 32

No. IMAP is also fine for filtering the messages already on the server
(ONCE!) and not in any client again. For *me* this is the most important
 benefit from IMAP over POP.

Makes sense.

Especially when I fetch my mails with my mobile I would like to fetch
only messages from some folders, not all. Using POP I will get all
 messages.

Let me think about that. Those messages that go into the Newsletters
folder in my POP account are not really so urgent that I need to see
them on my phone - server-side filtering does make sense. I never
thought about not subscribing to certain folders.

Makes a lot of sense when data roaming, which I have to do more often
that I'd like to.

My first and most likely suspect in this instance would be the IMAP
server software. When in IMAP mode, The Bat! can only show you what
the server tells it is available. I know that attachments I receive
come through exactly as I would expect them.

You should inspect the message source and check the headers in the
attachment section of the message, which should include some of e.g.

 Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name=part.att
 Content-Description: part.att
 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=part.att; size=;

This would demonstrate that the server configuration is at fault by

I know about the basic concepts of IMAP, but was hoping for TB to use
the cache while I am offline and do the deleting of the mails later,
 when connected.

Is there a setting to make this possible, maybe?

If you don't have a permanent Internet connection you can forget IMAP with v5.
I mentioned this on the Beta list a long time ago, nothing changed. I can only
recommend going back to v4.

It's not just deleting: You can remove flags, but suddenly they reappear. If
you use a remote outbox you can't even save messages. It's ridiculous.

TH gamail. The connection window freezes when checking google and TB
TH freezes as well. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess I could
TH use POP in checking gmail.

Let me take a stab in the dark. This sounds like a problem that I had
with a POP3 account many years ago. As part of the login process, one
particular provider was sending a DNS request. Due to problems (or
fears) about ?BackOrifice?, the firewall had been set to block port 53
by default. The result looked very much like a continuous loop (TheBat
attempted to fetch email from that provider and hung).

After reading the firewall logs (and setting it to report all denied
traffic, heh-heh-heh), the solution was to open port 53 for that
provider's IP address in combination with TheBat's MD5.

I'm not sure if that helps with your problem, but hope springs

the pw for some reason, and I've kind of given up on it.
Not only do I not like it, but I don't understand it and I
don't have the time to mess with it :-/

The things that cause problems for me are accounts with lots of
folders or lots of accounts to check at the same time, particularly
when there are messages waiting in several of them. One large email

 timeout and hang.

Yes, this could be. There are several accounts - but all
but the one with the problem are POP accounts, and all are
working fine as of this writing. Most have lots of
folders, including this IMAP account. But .. the only one with
problems is the IMAP account :-/

You could play around with some of the settings in
Properties|Mail Management|IMAP Fine Tune at account level and see
 whether that makes a difference.

Well, so far that hasn't accomplished anything.

I have managed to move all the messages to the trash
folder, (the delete key worked where the delete button on
the interface did not) where for some reason I can read
them. I can't move any to any other folder, however, and
none of the filters work on that account.

There is a new version of IMAP for The Bat in the works, and hopefully
this will address some of the current issues.

I hope so.

In the meantime, has anyone ever managed to fix a filter
problem like this one? There are filters specific to this
account, as well as a common filter which combs about 3 of
them, the other accounts being POP accounts.

Will be glad to provide any other info you like, if you
think it will help.

continue to find it superior over all to anything else. I only have
one account, which has 62 folders, and nearly 54,000 messages. It

I sometimes get this problem on my laptop, usually on a slow

I don't understand why you don't sort the mail in your IMAP account
as it arrives there. I do virtually no filtering with TB! anymore.

I'd not check it.

It means that it disconnects from the server if you do not work with

And - does that mean that TB becomes active when I do something like

If you have set the appropriate options under Automatically connect to

I've never had any IMAP problems with Thunderbird. On the other hand,
it only provides rather basic functions, so the changeover shock from
TheBat is quite extensive. ;-)

Mulberry comes to mind when talking about IMAP. To my knowledge it was
the first program that fully implemented almost all nuances of the
IMAP protocol. This may still hold, but so does the quirky interface
and in recent time there have been no signs of developement to speak
of. The existing user base seems to be happy with the way it is, and
there is no drive to improve the program in any way.

its IMAP limitations. And when I say a few years ago it may of been

No, not in the least. Improvements have been promised on various
occasions but have never materialized. The currently running promise
is for v4.1, which of course needs an update fee.

If you want to use IMAP with TheBat I recommend the final v3 version.
If TheBat happens to like your provider's servers you may be more or
less ok with it. If anything, it has been going downwards from then on
again.

NZc Can I still use TB! as the client. I've been a TB! user since version
NZc 1.x (maybe early 2.x) and consider it the best POP client available,
NZc but I do remember a few threads on this list years ago discussing its
NZc IMAP limitations. And when I say a few years ago it may of been 4 or
NZc 5 years ago. Has Ritlabs dealt with these issues? I would rather not
NZc recommend switching over to another client.

The quality of TB!'s IMAP is still an issue. I use it and it is OK, but not
great. Others can't use it at all and others have no problems. It does seem to
matter on the settings, whether you download all messages or just headers, etc.
If you are using an IMAP server in house its hard to say whether some of the
issues can be eliminated.
