I think the recent surge of messages on these lists is attributable to
group hysteria. No one has coerced me to buy Version 3.0. I made a
decision on merit and I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Upgrading has cost less than a round of drinks and saved me countless
hours already.

It's true, Ritlabs could communicate more effectively... but we knew
that already so there's really no need to rant on about it day after
day. What's more, I'd have been none-the-wiser if I didn't frequent
these lists; I'd first learn about Version 3.0 from that message Ritlabs
sent out. And I get these all the time... Acronis, O&O, TuneUp
Utilities, Handy Backup etc. In fact, I'd be more concerned if new
versions didn't come around very often.

I think a lot of advice has been sent them lately, both on TB! lists
and by private mail.

I know it's not the general point of view, but I really do feel that
I've been getting my money's worth. I'm inclined, speaking only for

I still have a really good e-mail client which meets my needs, and

I have no problem with true, honest marketing. I wish RitLabs would
try that. Recent behavior is "bait-and-switch" which is illegal in
the USA.

Marketing is when you use techniques to entice people to investigate
and try product, then hopefully buy it.

Another point. It has been shown that if 1 person is dissatisfied
with your product or company, they will tell 16 people. If a person
loves and uses your product, they will tell 2 people. Therefore
customer satisfaction is the highest priority in any marketing

Yes, but only from a marketing point of view. RITLabs seems to have
embarked on a new marketing push, to get TB! more widely known.

As I wrote to Miguel, I agree with him completely that v. 3.0 is still
in need of work, on the new filter system and with IMAP.

Additionally, a few of us are still experiencing a "jumpy" mail
ticker. This really is unacceptable, given that it is one of TB!'s
main unique features.

And, as I said on another thread, I do wish that 9Val had time to edit
the default.msl in The Bat!/Images.

The reason I don't have trouble with the New Filter System is that my
filters are few and simple. My main filter is in my own head, and it's
the reason that the Message Dispatcher is TB!'s most important feature
for me. I read every message listing, as to sender, subject, and size,
and do my own Selective Download, even when there are 700 mails to
look at.

It's my safety net against viruses--the first one. And I delete the
rare Spam there, on the server, also. I hardly ever get even one Spam
a day. Had one of those with all the random words this morning, but
only one. (Knock on wood. :) )

I know that I use The Bat! in an unusual, even, one might say, an
eccentric manner, and that others have different needs. For instance,
for business users, a dependable filter system is indispensable.

May I x you a question... (not wanting to flame against Rit, just out of
curiosity, maybe *my* perception is a little bit wrong, who knows...)

Do you feel, now that you have v3, when you compare it to the last v2

justified?

Sorry to be late answering. My Internet Service Provider's connection
went down right after I posted and I'm just now back on line.

Things that pleased me:

1) Purchase through Element 5 was handled professionally and swiftly.
2) Download was quick and seamless.
3) Installation using MSI Wizard went quickly with no problems.
4) On launch of my new The Bat!, 20 e-mails downloaded without a
   hitch.
5) The Connection Centre did not hang on the download or on the
e-mails I sent a little bit later and still has not behaved
   anything other than flawlessly.
6) The icons are perfectly sized to my screen. I had read a lot of
   complaints on tbbeta about them
7) All my filters went over exactly as configured to the new filter
   system
8) My Registration Key Block was in the first 20 mails that I
downloaded. The Key was sent by the time I had the new version
   downloaded and installed.
9) Although the jumpy mail ticker problem isn't fixed and I still have
one mailing-list folder that won't hold its configuration when I
move to another folder and come back to it, the fact that there is
evidence of so much good work having been done on the Sorting
Office and the new filter system, and on getting IMAP useable,
gives me hope that the two small things that are an annoyance to me
can be fixed in a later release.

Of course, as is so often said here, your mileage may vary. I'm pretty
conservative about making changes--I waited months before going from
v. 1.62 to v. 2.06, but I've had a good experience with those and all
my subsequent upgrades. So, I'm pleased. I'm feeling lucky and
well-cared-for. Thanks for asking. :)

Filtering on filename
Filtering on the (partial) contents of any header without needing to
resort to regexp

I don't know how often the first item has been asked for on this list
and the second feature was the first I implemented.

eToken or Aladin is a hardware solution for encrypting in this case
message databases. Alos you don't have access to TheBaT! without it.

Biy the actual Thebat! Pro hasn't included jet this feature. It will
be implemented soon i think. Have a look for further informations at

Same here; Element 5 is fine business. And, I've kept my mouth shut
through all of this. I would hope RitLabs has learned from this, but
v3 has been annointed, that's the way it is and it's time for everyone
to move on - to v3 or elsewhere. I haven't been active beta testing
for awhile and I understand the mistreatment issue others are feeling.

There was a suggestion made by Cory:
