Hello Richard, M I can even see a 'Paste formatted' option, which I don't know what it M does but the name seems to suggest something Unfortunately it doesn't paste formatted from Word but it was so easy to align all my lists with the Tab button that it only took a few minutes. Hello Richard, M no text editor gets the formatting when you copy from Word and paste That's another useful snippet of information learnt thanks. Although why Word can't make formatting exportable I don't know. Maybe it's time to give OpenOffice a go. It is not a Word problem, you would have the same problem if you go to OpenOffice. It is a problem between _word_ processors and _text_ processors. When you copy something from a _word_ processor, that includes all the extra information that you don't see (i.e. formatting, paragraph hierarchy, fonts and sizes, colours, possible indexing info, etc.,etc.) and the word processor doesn't know (it can't) where you are going to paste that. You may want to paste it just a couple of pages away, or in another word document, or Follow me? When you paste something in a _text_ processor, how can it know where it comes from to understand its formatting, etc.? Does a text processor have to understand the special coding (formatting) done by MS Word, OpenOffice, etc.? So, all it pastes are ASCII text characters with the basic formatting that can be done with ASCII characters like space and end of line and it strips all other control and formatting characters (actually combinations) it cannot understand. That's how it more or less works :) -- Best regards, Please support the wish for a 'Draft' folder at: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5441 Miguel A. Smart Bat column alignment
Hello, How do you get columns to align in smart bat? I have one page which is meant to have columns in it. However Smat Bat behaves like MicroEd in that, if you don't have line spaces, all lines become one the moment you start to edit. do all my editing by copying to Word, making adjustments to the columns, and pasting back in. It doesn't matter if I use tabs or the space bar or convert it to columns in Word. It still shows as a misaligned mess when pasting back into Smart Bat. I can't write it directly into Smart Bat as I don't want a line space between each line of information. That would necessitate far too much scrolling up and down. It would be good to have the same choices as in MicroEd and to be able to turn off the autoformat and autowrap facilities. -- Regards, Richard | The Bat! 3.63.08 (Beta) with SpamPal POP3 account and no Plug-ins | Windows XP (build 2600), version 5. 1 Service Pack 2 | F-Prot AV, Outpost Firewall Pro 3.0, Spysweeper, Adaware, SpyBot Holiday in France: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lazyhomes/holiday.html Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

In general, it's adequate for most home users, because most home users don't know there are many options. I got 3 virus alert warnings this week about viruses that target a small bug that was supposed to have been fixed by MS in OE4. If they cannot fix that, then the chances are, there are probably some bigger ones lurking around. Auto-format and Smart Bat
yesterday I started to use Auto-Format and since then I notice that the Smart Bat uses it also, although it's not checked in it's utilities menu. I don't mind that the auto format is ON in the smart bat, but the problem is that if I open it and type write away, the new text magically goes to the end of the previous line (the one with the dashes and the time) and it get's REALLY annoying. It takes way the advantage of the smart bat of open and write Is it clear? I'm not sure how to describe it. Is there any way to have independent settings between the message editor and the smart bat? Hi to all! Earlier in time I wrote asking what SmartBat was supposed to be. A notepad with search functionality was the common reply for my e-mail and for those that asked a similar question afterwards. Well, all I can say is that it rules! After using it for a few days, I've used for a whole bunch of things (funny how simple ideas con go so far!), here are some of the uses I've given it: - Multiple text clipboard - Scratch-pad - Simple TODO / day organizer (if I could sync this thing with my Palm easily I'd be ecstatic!), Palm Desktop chaps my ... - Thought organizer at the touch of an F6 - Mail organizer (got gazillion e-mails) - Post-it (TM) substitute - Calls and reminders - ... I have assigned a system hot-key for it and now I have it available from any app! One question though is how often is the text saved? I type the CTRL-S sequence every time I type new stuff in, but might be wasting my energy. Roberto -- Roberto Machorro Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo Messenger ID: roberto_machorro _ Do You Yahoo!? Re[2]: Smart Bat rules!
Hi all! I very often find myself in need of: - Replying to several people similar ideas/stuff So in SmartBat I copy/paste their names and ideas and hints of what I want to tell them, then when I'm done checking all e-mail I come back and reply. My previous solution was to open a New Message and stick in some ideas in the edition box, soon I would have 5-12 emails, I'd come back to them and answer the question. - Thread un-friendly lists I don't know if people have noticed, but there are lots of thread un-friendly lists out-there, not that it's the majordomo or whatever software they are using's fault. But the people's fault. So sometimes keeping a scratch-pad with notes helps you keep yourself on top of things. I'm currently in about 27 lists, some low-volume, some high volume. - Organizing ideas with several people I participate in several open-source (whoops! I mean GPLed :) projects, upon a heavy discussion where several ideas an criticisms where thrown in I would take out notepad and put in ideas. Storing them with the date as the filename. SmartBat puts it all in a single easy to access area and you can skip between the dates using the calendar thingy. - Pre-create e-mails Sometimes it's easier to sketch e-mails through the day (as ideas are coming to you) and then just sending them off when desired. The Message postponing, Notes combo was OK though, but I like it this way better, my whole reasoning is there at a glance. There are much more things you can do with just a plain text editor with a search function ;) like SmartBat. And I know I'll find out more and so will you!
