I see that in ordinary folders.

No wonder I can't see any difference. I only have three virtual
folders and their parent is "< Root Folder >", so there is no "upper
level".

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Just tried it. When a folder has some sub-folders, the counts Unread
an Total in the parent folder will show in parenthesis the
corresponding counts of the sub-folders, except VFs if they don't have
the option "Count in upper level" selected.

Thanks, MFPA, for your response.

I solved the problem by deleting the empty folder on the second
computer. I then deleted the virtual folder on the first computer.
Then, I created a new virtual folder on the first computer, but this
time, instead of creating the folder as a plain old new virtual
folder I created a New Common Virtual Folder. And this time,
instead of it being a subfolder of the inbox, I made it a subfolder of
the root folder. This time it worked! I opened TB on the second
computer and the new virtual folder magically appeared, with all of
the mail it was supposed to reflect.

How do I get this folder to operate as a virtual
 folder on the second computer?

I don't have two computers with TB! to test. But I found if I:-

  1. make a copy of the ACCOUNT.FLB for a TB! account
  2. start TB!
  3. create a virtual folder in that account
  4. close TB!
  5. rename the ACCOUNT.FLB file
  6. paste in the copy ACCOUNT.FLB I made earlier
  7. start TB!

The new virtual folder is gone.

And if I then:-

  8. close TB!
  9. delete the copy ACCOUNT.FLB I pasted in at step 6.
  A. reinstate the ACCOUNT.FLB file I renamed at step 5.
  B. start TB!

The new virtual folder is back.

(I picked on the ACCOUNT.FLB file because the modified date/time
changed after creating/deleting a virtual folder.)

  Should I just delete
it, and manually create the virtual folder?

My suggestion would be to delete the folder on the second computer.

If I delete the virtual folder on the second
computer, will it also delete it on the primary
 computer?

From my test results above, I would say only if the ACCOUNT.FLB files
are synchronised. And even then, probably only when TB! on the primary
computer is next started.

No, if you delete a Virtual Folder no messages will be delete. They will

Virtual folder meltdown

2008-12-05 Thread Nick Dutton
Hello,

Last week I had a problem with the POP3 servers for one of my mail
accounts. As a temporary measure, I set up another account using
IMAP.

This was OK, but I found that the Bat's IMAP ability pretty much in
line with the low expectations that I had harboured for many years.

One of the problems was that the virtual folders (my primary way of
viewing mail) just didn't seem to keep up. Lots of duplicate messages
and false unreads were the main complaints.

Once my POP3 servers were up again, I deleted the IMAP accounts,
expecting to go back to my old reliable Bat!

Now I find that the virtual folders still don't work properly. Unread
mails are counted twice and it takes a restart to clear the unread
count (even though there are no unread messages in any real
folders).

I'm getting desperate now.

I've tried a full restore of the Bat! file structure (copy from a
ghosted disk, not the Bat's internal system) and a restore of the
registry.

Any suggestions?

It's unusable as it is.

New mail virtual folder in v 2.12

2007-08-02 Thread rich gregory
Hello Bat-Folk!

Odd behavior I'm just noticing...

The VF All New Mail drops messages that are moved from the top level
Inbox folder to newly created sub-folders.

The VF does not stop displaying any message if moved into an already
existing folder but if I create a new folder in the act of CTRL-M moving
such a new mssg it is lost from the list of ALL new mssgs.

The problem is that the VF properties Select Folders dialog does not
have new folders checked.

Is there a way to tell my New Mail VF to keep up with newly created
folders?

(Closing and restarting TB! does not help.)

Thx all,
Rich

That's as expected. You've selected a number of folders that should be
checked by the virtual folder. New folders are (per definition) not
selected until you do so.
Therefore their new messages aren't displayed.

Yes, by selecting the new folders in the filter of the VF. Has to be

Need a Virtual Folder Filter

2006-04-30 Thread Robert D.
I've lost my VF Filter that looked in Header Field 'References:' to
see if the particular message was in reference to something I had
posted.

Presently, I cannot see how to make a VF Filter for that because
looking at 'Filter' from 'Properties' OF the particular filter does
not produce the choice for 'Header Field'.

Whereas, Looking at filters in a regular account does produce that
available choice. The VF I have 'Replies-to-Me' lies in the
über-Accounts, or Global, or whatever we want to call it. I want
Incoming, unread traffic filtered to see if it's a thread I'm in then
mirrored obviously in the VF.

I previously got help on this from ya'all but recently lost it while
re-loading various previous versions and then reverting back to this
current Beta.

Create a regular filter that sets a color group for those messages you
want to appear in the VF. I created a color group directly to me for
messages that contain (the domain part of) my message-ids in the
in-reply-to header.

In the VF I filter for that color group.

Maybe the restriction of the headers filter to regular filters is
because of the performance.

PO As it has been quite some moons ago since I used that one, have a

What does store state between sessions mean?

It means that the contents of the virtual folder (i.e., those messages
that matched the filter) will be remembered between invocations of The
Bat!

What does store state between sessions mean?

C It means that the contents of the virtual folder (i.e., those

C invocations of The Bat! Without it, The Bat! will rescan the search
C folders each time it starts up. This way, it will always have the
C latest messages. However, it may be slower. If you do choose to
C preserve the state between sessions, you can always force a rescan

Is there ever a time when you would not want this checked?

The only changes to TB!'s database are via TB! so how else could the
contents of the VF change?

Is Folder 1A a Common folder or a Virtual folder? And how do I delete

It's neither a common nor a virutal folder, it's a duplicate. It was

Virtual folder strange behavior when deleting message

2005-05-01 Thread Jarle H. Knudsen
I have a virtual folder that contains messages from several physical
folders with a filter that selects based on sender. The virtual folder
is sorted on the received column.

When I delete a message in the virtual folder with the delete-key the
displayed message is not the next one according to the sort, but a
totally different one.

This is obviously not the expected behavior and it makes it difficult
to go through all the messages in the folder.

Can anyone offer any help or advice on how to remedy the situation or
as to why The Bat! behaves like this?

I cannot confirm this specific behavior but when I select a message to
delete the message is not deleted and it moves to the next message.
Reselecting and deleting a second time does delete the message. This
does not happen to every message so something is not consistent. Any

I think you will find that the first time you delete the message it
moves to the trash folder, but the conditions that cause it to remain in
the virtual folder still apply, so it is still there. Second time you
delete it removes it from the trash folder and it then disappears from
the virtual folder.

If you have the folder displayed as part of your virtual folder view,
this will be apparent.

Virtual Folder Problem

2004-08-29 Thread Alexander
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to set up a Virtual Folder that contains all mail correspondence
*from* and *to* the members of a specific address book group (with threaded
view, would be very handy to watch all kinds of private conversations with
these people). Sounds easy...

Here's what I've entered in the filter settings for the VF:

Address book group bla contains sender
OR address book group bla contains first recipient

I then selected my inbox and my sent folder to be watched, and after
clicking OK it takes a moment until I get an out of memory error. After
that, the selected folders are de-selected again (which may be a security
measure, in case the VF doesn't work?). When I select the same folders
again, I sometimes get the same error again, sometimes TB becomes
completely unresponsive.

Now, I have some 3500 mails in my sent folder, but: doing the exact same
thing with a VF that is looking for mails from or to *one* specific
person/mail address only works without problems. So, I assume it is a bug
in TB. Can anyone try this and confirm it or give me a hint, in case I
missed something?

Hi Alexander.

I tried your experiment but set it up a little differently.

However in this case I don't think it makes a difference because I
encountered a similar problem as the one you describe.

For the record, this was my set up:

 recipient = a
 sender = a
 subject = b
 message = b

selected folders: in known in several accounts

As soon as I clicked ok after setting up all the parameters, TB!
froze. The next time I tried it, it shuddered but then completed
the task. But it was not an easy process for TB! and I had it
searching folders that had only a few messages in them. So my
conclusion is that there probably is a problem somewhere.

Now I'm using a beta version so I'm going to take the liberty of
cross posting this on the beta list. Hope you don't mind.

Virtual folder filters

2004-06-25 Thread Code 2
The filters for setting up virtual folders seem to permit a message to
reside in only one virtual folder at any one time, despite the filter
parameters meeting the requirements of several virtual folders.

Any way of getting a message to appear in more than one virtual folder
at the same time?

Also, you can't seem to filter by text appearing in the body of a
message, as with a filter for a regular folder. Pretty annoying.
Does anyone know of a work-around?

PO Not confirmed. This, as far as I can recall, has always been possible
PO for VFs, using filter conditions which allow it.

PO Have you tried creating more than one VF, different names, same
PO filter conditions?

C2 Also, you can't seem to filter by text appearing in the body of a

C2 Does anyone know of a work-around?

PO Filter on Message source, which also includes the headers.

Worked like a charm. Thanks Peter. So the Message Source parameter
is not only the header, but it also includes the body (text) of the
message.

I don't know why, but adding the Message Source filter also solved the
issue above where the same message should have been appearing in
multiple virtual folders. Maybe the auto refresh just needed a good
solid kick in the pants.

bug: deleted messages stay in Virtual Folder

2004-06-05 Thread dAniel hAhler
Hello TBUDL,

I have a Virtual Folder SPAM, where the Filter is Colour is Spam. It
searches in all folders, except other VFs and some account trash
folders.

The problem I'm experiencing is that the mails stay in the VF after I
delete them from Inbox.
I've turned the message folder column of, so this is not the mail that
went to trash.

Though when the marked messages gets read or assigned to another colour
group the VF is updated correctly.

This is reproducable, also after restarting.

keep bugfixin'..

I tried that using 'esc' before, but with Folder-Refresh now it works.

After doing so, it now also refreshed automatically correctly (at least
once). Perhaps that fixed it.

Thanks.

Virtual folder question

2004-04-29 Thread Dean

Hello,

I had three filters that were set up to send what I considered spam messages to
the trash folder. I figured I needed to get a supply of spam messages to teach
the antispam program. I created a virtual folder to hold my filtered spam. Then
I was going to run the antispam program through the folder to identify spam
 messages.

The spam messages are moving to the virtual folder as I can see
the size of the folder growing and the number of unread messages is growing.
What is funny is that I cannot see these new messages. The folder shows I have
34 new messages, yet I cannot see them whatsoever.

I admit I am experimenting with this virtual folder concept so maybe I don't
understand that one is not supposed to send new messages to that type of
folder? Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong or if virtual folders are
just for storage of old messages?

Deleting messages in virtual folder

2004-04-22 Thread Anselm Buehling

Hm. I just decided to play around with the virtual folder feature -
admittedly without in-depth-knowledge of the concept.

I created a common virtual folder and instructed it to collect all my
unreplied mail which goes to a certain account. I also set it to
monitor my existing folders for unreplied messages to that account.

I opened the folder and found that it did indeed contain all unreplied
messages addressed to the account in question. Just fine. Now I wanted
to empty the folder, because I intended to use it for new unreplied
messages rather than for my old ones.

I was cautious enough to backup my folders before trying. And that
proved to be very wise. Having emptied the virtual folder (using the
context menu command in the virtual folder view, in which no other
folders where displayed), I found that all messages which had been
collected by the virtual folder had in fact been deleted from the
existing non-virtual folders. They were still present in the virtual
folder though.

What did I do wrong? I would have expected that the virtual folder
contains only links to the messages which it collects, and I wanted to
delete these links in the virtual folder rather than real messages in
my existing folders. should I have used another command to achieve
this - and if so, which one?

Thanks and kind regards,

Anselm

It does sort of. Delete a message from a virtual folder and you
delete the *message*, not the link. That's a biggy. Do anything to a
message in a VF and you do it to the original. It's not a cop0y of

Simple - change the filter! Then press Esc to refresh the VF.

AV - Virtual Folder related?

2004-04-17 Thread Costas Papadopoulos
Hello,

I created a simple Virtual Folder: Filtering to show all unread
messages. While browsing the contents of the folder, I had an AV
77F69ECD in module ntdll.dll write of address 0010.

At the very moment of the AV I was receiving new emails (I know that
because a wav file plays when new email arrives and I heard it). This
AV however, doesn't happen every time new email arrives.

As a result of the AV no message could be seen in any of the folders.
I had to restart The Bat to be able to see them.

Hi Costas,

CP As a result of the AV no message could be seen in any of the folders.
CP I had to restart The Bat to be able to see them.

Similar experience here one time today. However, I am not sure whether
it was in connection with the AV I've described in previous posts, or
if it happened at another time: All messages appear gone - the
messagelist pane was just plain white, but randomly clicking in there
proved that the messages were still there. Plus, the AV I got was not
in a dll but in Thebat.exe.

Restarting TB solved it.

AFAIR you get only THIS new message in the Ticker for which you don't
have disabled the Show unread message in MailTicker(tm) option
(either in Account-Settings for Inbox Co, or in Folder-based

Hehe. But remember that the tickers text properties is configurable. You
can choose whatever font and size to use, even a variable width font.

This doesn't help the screen reading software. It moves. It cannot be
used by blind folks. Never mind the font.

Virtual folder

2000-09-16 Thread Vladimir Mincev

Hello friends,

You have to make some things clear to me... When I open virtual folder
(by double-clicking on Mail Ticker) when still receiving mail, why
does Mail Ticker still showing messages (new ones)? How can I (when
Virtual folder is opened) all new incoming mail send directly in
Virtual folder not to Mail Ticker? In ViewDisplay I selected Only
unread messages (is that ok?). And how to set that option default?
Every time I start Virtual folder ViewDisplay is set to All messages.

Yes - it's a problem. The virtual folder only contains a snapshot of
the ticker contents at the moment it was summoned. I usually Ctrl-U,
Esc, hotkey (Mark current unread, close ticker folder, re-open
ticker folder whenever there has been more mail incoming.

Right now, there's no other way.

MDP mail. I don't believe there is one.

I am using The Bat! for a while but I still don't know what is a
virtual folder (or is it *view* folder you mean by saying *virtual*?)
and how to use it... I looked in help (index and find) but with no
success... Please tell me more about it.

Virtual Folder Refresh?

2000-08-10 Thread Chuck Mattsen

I'm still relatively new to using the mail ticker's "virtual folder"
to read my mail ... is there no way to refresh the virtual folder as
new mail arrives, short of shutting it down and reopening it?

Sadly - no. Another lament of mine about the ticker virtual view is
that colour filtrations don't show up. Still, I wouldn't be without
it.

Re: Virtual Folder Refresh?

2000-08-10 Thread Chuck Mattsen

On Thursday, August 10, 2000 at 6:44 PM or thereabouts, Marck D.
Pearlstone wrote the following about Virtual Folder Refresh?:

CM folder" to read my mail ... is there no way to refresh the

Marck Sadly - no. Another lament of mine about the ticker virtual
Marck view is that colour filtrations don't show up. Still, I
Marck wouldn't be without it.

Well, I didn't use it until recently (when the settings for position,
font, etc., finally were "sticky" ... before that it was too much of a
pain resetting my preferences every time), but I'm hooked on it. I
rarely open the main program window any longer.

It would be nice if the ticker, and the associated virtual folder,
were fleshed out a bit, yes. (And while I'm waxing hopeful on the
subject, a little cosmetic ability to change the background and font
colors, as well as the font itself, would be nice.) I assume this has
already all been added to the official "wish" list.
