Hello!

KaTeX has a bunch of additions (e. g. mathbb and other new fonts). Could
you please refresh the math plugin using a new version?

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Fields Tag Template

2015-09-21 Thread infurnoape

As far as a global setting as a PR or a plugin, I don't feel the incentive to
create another option for the control panel. This just feels like it could be
handled with a template. That is what $:/tags/ViewTemplate tag is for isn't it?
I think a fields field or something? I'd like to know what name I can use for
the fields field. I feel stupid asking stupid questions.

Hi Andrew, How about a fields field that way you have a place to input the
fields that you don't want to show up? But what would it be called? tf-fields?
I didn't want to make a plugin.
Wanting to show fields at a tiddler might not necessarily mean "all fields",
that's true.
I guess that will always be a matter of preference... and fiddling.
Not sure, what exactly you mean with a tf-fields, field.
I would certainly not define that on a per-tiddler basis,at least not by
default... that would probably better be global.

Your understanding is correct. Will try the drag & drop method.

Meanwhile, we also found "tiddlywiki --load " command helps.

Re: [tw] Re: Are the downloadable TWs from tw.com assembled at download or pre-made?

2015-09-21 Thread Erwan

Hi Tobias,

Thank you for this, that helps me greatly with getting a more general
perspective.

In fact, I originally developed the aggregator without thinking further
than aggregating content for users to search in it. It's only recently
that I slowly started realizing that the main idea can be used for
various applications. So currently it's difficult to distinguish the
parameters from the process, in particular in my code where some
parameters are hard-coded, simply because they didn't make sense as
"parameters" in the original application.

But even if it takes a long time, my brain is slowly integrating this
potential for various applications. this is actually the reason why I
decided to separate the aggregator /code/ from the community-search
/wiki/: although the former is still 99% about generating the latter,
it's now not the sole purpose anymore.

Erwan

Hi Erwan,

First of all, thanks for your amazing contribution. Needs to be said,
again, and again. :-)

There are many possibilities and I don't know what is best, so of
course suggestions are welcome!

In general, I would design that application / workflow in a way that
everyone could use it in their environment just the way you do,
however easily customized to personal preferences.

As I see it, right now, you the following workflow...

 1. you maintain some sort of "channel-list" / "subscription list"
 2. you maintain certain filters, either global or with respect to
every channel
 3. via commandline you batch-download all channels
 4. via commandline you extract a channel's data according to either a
global or per-channel filter or both into tid files
 5. via commandline you build an output wiki from those tid files
alongside a set of dedicated template components

All that is good and working. The required options would correspond to
each step. Right now, you are possibly the only one who knows what
needs configuration or what can be configured and how. Unless you
already have, can start by publishing documentation on what you (can)
do, step-wise, at the moment... and then we can give feedback on how
that can be utilized or enhanced or whichever workflow to best
construct around all that. Parameters should be simple text-based,
preferably tiddlers. No fancy UIs or anything... except for what
TiddlyWiki delivers out of the box. But maybe all that doesn't even
need TiddlyWiki in the beginning, just plain text-editing.

One thing I would like to see around all this is the ability to adapt
_the entire workflow_ to "collections", i.e. being able to do 1..5
for different collections of configurations rather than just one. So,
for any "collection" you could do 1..5 independent from other
collections, perhaps with a fallback to some global defaults.

Eventually, you may have...

 6. via commandline execute the update process for all collections
at once

It would be good if we can reserve the term "collection" or something
equivalent for meaning that: running the aggregator process against a
distinct set of necessary configuration options. So, right now, your
aggregator only caters for one "collection", being an
"all-subscriptions", "all-channels" aggregator.

Although later on of interest, what I would not discuss or develop
right now is some sort of community process / workflow to design
"shared aggregator configurations". What I can perhaps see is that you
wish to expose your configuration for "community search" or "community
news" more so that others know where and how to contribute. I don't
know if that needs actual development, rather than communication /
documentation / a suitable workflow.

Best wishes,

Re: [tw] [TW5] Documentation Contributors Edition

2015-09-21 Thread Erwan

Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for the details.

I should be able to provide a script which handles the git stuff, but I
would need some help with the rest, especially the question of receiving
the request from the user.
In case anybody wants to help, including if somebody has a server and
they would be ok to use it for this service, I opened an issue on my
repo here: https://github.com/erwanm/tw-aggregator/issues/81

Have you seen the process I use with the Translators edition; it's
very similar:

* how to transmit the name/address of the wiki to the aggregator?

RSS solved this problem by having dedicated "ping" servers. In our
case, wikis that want to be aggregated could perform an HTTP POST to
https://ping.tiddlywiki.com, with the payload being the URL of the wiki.

That would only work if you were in a position to have a server that
was up all the time. An alternative might be to re-use an existing
infrastructure; for example, having wiki authors tweet their updates
with a hashtag.

* if the TW repo has changed since the revision uploaded to
tiddlyspot, the commit would revert these modifications. as far as
I know, the only way to avoid that is to know exactly which
revision was used on the tiddlyspot wiki, but I don't see how this
is possible.

The core documentation plugin can be given a finer grained version
number that maybe even includes includes the commit details.

* I'm not sure what to do at the end: is it possible to send a
github pull request programmatically? or maybe the commit could be
pushed to a special repo or branch?

Yes, there's an extensive API for GitHub, and it's quite easy to
create pull requests automatically.

* modifications from several wikis can cause conflicts as well

For tiddlywiki.com itself, I think it's
reasonable that the docs should have a manual editorial process. Some
details of a contribution might be inaccurate; that's OK for a
community wiki, but I don't think it's OK for the canonical reference
documentation.to

Many thanks for your continued work on this stuff, it's developing nicely,

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Following up some recent discussions about making it easier for
people to contribute improvements to the documentation on
tiddlywiki.com , I've been experimenting
with a new edition for documentation contributors:

http://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/editions/tw5.com-docs/

It's based on a new plugin $:/plugins/tiddlywiki/tw5.com-docs
that contains all the documentation tiddlers from tiddlywiki.com
. The advantage is that it's easier to
tell which tiddlers you've modified, and to revert to the original.

The idea is that a would-be contributor would clone this edition
to TiddlySpot (step-by-step instructions forthcoming), and then
make their changes, saving them back to TiddlySpot. I, or anyone
else, can fairly easily then pick up the wiki and extract the
changed tiddlers into a pull request.

One shortcoming at the moment is that TiddlyWiki gives a warning
each time you modify a shadow tiddler.

A desirable feature is the ability to see line-by-line diffs for
the changes, and perhaps to be able to easily export a JSON file
of the changed tiddlers.

Anyhow, feedback and questions are welcome,

Best wishes

Jeremy.

This is a discussion about having a barebones edition. No one is asking others
to do their job. Tiddlywiky community has demonstrated to be active and to take
the necessary efforts to contribute to the project. Before telling others that

The ongoing discussion suggests that some people think otherwise. As
Tobias noted, "bare-bones" possibly means quite different things to
different people.
I think this discussion (and any actionable items that result) is part of
what has made TiddlyWiki so versatile.

situation...

No one forces anyone to upgrade to the latest Tiddlywiki.

The discussion about what a "barebones" TiddlyWiki could/should be has
little to do with upgrading. It's more about how to package the underlying
the functionality TW core so it can be used in other scenarios, independent
of the default interface delivered with the standard distro.

> stand still.

Yes. The technology that enables TiddlyWiki to work changes over time.
That is one of the primary reasons that TW5 was created... the old
TiddlyWiki "Classic" codebase was based on 2005-era methods and script
engines, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain because of
"browser drift". A fresh start, using "modern" coding methods and
functionality was the inevitable response.

I've written about it on the forum here: Internal Javascript Error and the
> Latest Version of Chrome
> .

I have not been able to reproduce the error you reported. I am using
Chrome Version 45.0.2454.99 m (under Windows 7), and I visited
http://TiddlyWiki.com, and there was no error. Please note that I am not
disputing that you are seeing an error message... just that it isn't
reproducible for everyone, so it might not be as much of a "major error" as
you have suggested.

As far as Jeremy "appeasing one-off requests"... that rarely happens.
Jeremy is famously resistant to "putting stuff into the core" just to
support a single use-case. However, sometimes a single use-case can
suggest an area of functionality that has more general applicability, and
Jeremy decides to direct some of his attention there.

With regard to the "browser drift" problem noted above, that is only ONE of
the many areas of TiddlyWiki that need attention. Other major areas
include:
* improvements/additions to core functionality
* improvements/additions to baseline interface
* efficiency/performance issues
* plugin installation/distribution mechanisms
* documentation
* etc.

Bottom line, while you might feel that fixing the error you encountered
should be "priority #1", there are numerous other ongoing efforts that are
arguably of greater impact to more people. Of course, we *do* want to
figure out what it happening for you (and *possibly* others), but try to be
a bit more patient and look to the TiddlyWiki community itself for help.
If the problem exists for some people but not others, perhaps we can
narrow down the conditions under which it occurs by having more people test
under a variety of platforms and configurations.

Re: [tw] Re: do you think it's time for a "bare bones" edition?

2015-09-21 Thread BJ
Jeremy has done an amazing job making tiddlywiki very efficient with the
modules that it uses - the code is very efficient. If the functionality
were constructed from node.js modules tiddlywiki would be much larger. The
case for splitting the core into smaller units is for using it in
applications other than a tiddlywiki, eg making other types of single page
apps, which might not need to save themselves.

The main intention of any "bare-bones" edition — as I see it — would
probably not be to create alternative wiki-ui's, but to have a bare core
that runs smoothly, ui-*less* that is (less ui) ...and then a step by step
implementation of things maybe a published "site" might need, a result that
is not meant to be edited like TW, however TW perhaps being the editing
environmnent that created it, perhaps using node.

If you wish, not a static site, but not a full-blown TW either. Something
that comes with little to no styling and might hook things like jQuery or
other libraries to do things you wouldn't do in TiddlyWiki but now you can,
since nobody is stealing your DOM any longer.

It could even simply be something as simple as an alternative save-filter.

Another way to go about doing things "publishing" would be to focus on
improving static sites. There are many paths that lead to ...being busy
working things out. ^_^

Jeremy ought to stay focused on the code that makes Tiddlywiki work with
> respect to the latest browsers and the latest browser versions.

Surely. Not every question or idea means "Jeremy, would you please." ...a
simple "you can try this and that, but I probably won't
", and
that's good enough an answer.

Best wishes,

Jeremy produces an amazing free product. For those who don't like to

It actually is that easy. You just need to start with a new PageTemplate.
... The reason, why it looks complicated is, that the TW UI was developed
over 36 releases now. A
hell lot of improvements and new features have been added. Not speaking
about the bug fixes ;) It's about 4+ years of development. .. And that's a
lot of work, to do, if you want to start from scratch. So it's
overwhelming, but it's an easy concept. Use the widgets and every single
feature of them in the right way ;)

eg: Language switching support, optional layout elements and so on, have
improved the usability for the standard user. So we now have a "basic"
layout for users but "basic" doesn't mean "it's simple for developers". ...
No user cares if something is simple for developers. It needs to be simple
for "end users" ...

BUT

With TW many "endusers" become "developers". That's cool! It makes TW
unique. ... But it also means, that there is a very steep learning curve.
.. If you want to start a new UI from scratch it means, you need to dig
into the existing UI and understand, how Jeremy created the existing UI.
IMO it's simple, but it's a looot of work. And that makes it look
complicated.

Hi

A quick test would indicate that this achieves the same thing. I'm not sure
how to set this up so that tiddlers can be individually modified or all
modified at once -- I suppose two separate listings are required -- one to
action the whole list ($list nested inside the $button), and another to
list each with a matching button ($buttons nested inside the $list.)

I'll have to do further tests.

You can easily *import* all the tiddlers from the single-file document.
Just open the online TW in your browser and then drag-and-drop the
single-file TW onto it. This will initiate the import process. All the
tiddlers in the dropped file will be listed. Key system tiddlers and
configuration settings will be automatically excluded so that you don't
overwrite the existing copies in the online TW, but all the *content*
tiddlers can be imported.

To save a single file version of your online TW, just use the "save
changes" button from the sidebar (the circle with the tick mark in it).
This will generate a new single-file document from the currently loaded TW.

Hello Birthe,

Thanks for the links. That's solved the mystery! I had initially found the
http://contextplugin.tiddlyspot.com/

link, and subsequently was using the http://braintest.tiddlyspot.com/ .

The http://spangenhelm.github.io/TW5-EnhancedSearchResults/

is a bonus and as you say, with those two plugins "that is the way to
search".

Now where can I keep a record of these small packets of information with a
suitable retrieval mechanism? Of course, MS Word :)

All the best, Bob

2015-09-21 Thread Mat
Hi Qiyong Li

Are you asking how to convert the single TW file into multiple separate
tiddlers for a node.js TW version? (I don't know.)

To just have a single file TW online, you don't need node.js. And, vice
versa, you can have a node.js TW off-line without problem, it doesn't have
to be online.

Great, much obliged, Tobias.

Please allow an additional question:

I would want to use this gradient pattern as an optical indication of
the workflow of documents (meaning tiddlers).
The wokflow - status needs to be stored is in a field, not in a tag -
because I need the radiobutton functionality (meaning: the document can
only one status: either draft or final or approved)

Now the question: is there a way to have a conditional template or
stylesheet which is conditioned by the contents of a field instead of
the name of a tag?

Thank you for your consideration,

Pit

Wanting to show fields at a tiddler might not necessarily mean "all

I guess that will always be a matter of preference... and fiddling.
Not sure, what exactly you mean with a *tf-fields*, field.
I would certainly not define that on a per-tiddler basis,
at least not by default... that would probably better be global.

[tw] Re: How to delete unused Tags in TW5

2015-09-21 Thread Matabele
Hi

Looking back at my efforts from the era of TW5-beta, it appears that my
main motivation for employing stacked widgets was to create a number of
tiddlers in the background (in this case, folders for a GTD type wiki -- I
needed to create a number of custom tiddlers with different field values.)

The problem that arises is that the title of the new tiddler isn't known
until the tiddler is created. Try creating a number of tiddlers with
repeated clicks of a button -- they will be named 'New Tiddler', 'New
Tiddler 1', New Tiddler 2' (same goes for any other base title
specified.)

In order to manipulate the fields of the newly crated tiddlers, it was
necessary for other widgets to know the title of the newly created
tiddlers. This I solved by passing the name of the new tiddler through the
widget stack using the 'param' attribute of the widget message. This
precluded the use of tm-add-tag and tm-remove-tag widget messages, as the
'param' attribute is used in this case to carry the name of the tag.

The widget is also less confusing to use due to the brevity of the code
(the same widget may be used to unconditionally add or remove a tag, or to
conditionally replace a tag.)

I have now constructed an $action-mangletags widget which may be more
convenient for many usage cases.

[tw] Re: How to delete unused Tags in TW5

2015-09-21 Thread Matabele
Hi

It is possible to use $action-widgets within lists (in this case a pair of
tm-add-tag and tm-remove-tag) would do the trick -- but, the messages are
unconditional and must be used within a list with the filter selecting only
those tiddlers containing the tag to remove.

I can't remember my usage case, but I needed a widget that would
conditionally add a new tag iff the tiddler contained the tag to remove.
This allows the list widget filter to select a listing other than
[tag[tag-to-remove]] -- hence the $mangletags widget (not necessary in this
use case.)

In addition, the use of bj's $click widget allows that all substitutions
can be actioned with a single button click -- removing the necessity of
having to individually click buttons down the list (although this
functionality is retained.) I find this behaviour convenient (although
potentially risky) for many use cases.

Hi Andrew,

Nice, this can be very useful.

I would not use this with a fields tag, though.

Perhaps a better place for such a thingis a checkbox somewhere in the
info-panel,stored as a field, rather than a tag, e.g.

tw-show-fields: true
Or, a button that adds the titleto a dictionary of tiddler titlesfor which to
show the fields,or removes it from that list, via toggle.

Anyway, for me, this is configuration, even if per-tiddler,whereas I want tags
to be for content-categorization only;that is unless we're looking at a system
tiddler.

[tw] Dropbox link

2015-09-21 Thread p . hakansson
Hi,
I have created my first tiddlyWiki mywiki.html and saved it in my dropbox
and shared it with a few within a work project.
However, the dropbox link I get to mywiki.html leads to some preview with
lot of html code, not to the actual wiki.
Has anyone come across this problem?

Thankful for any suggestion.

Pär

[tw] Re: Context Search plugin in sidebar

2015-09-21 Thread Bob Flandard
Hello Danielo,

Thanks for the very useful plugin.

If I add your plugin to an empty TW5, the default behavior is that when
clicking on the "advanced search" icon in the sidebar, a tiddler called
$:/AdvancedSearch
appears in the main story river, which has a tab called "Context search"
containing the results from your plugin.

With the non-standard TW (source unknown), I just type a search term
directly into the search box in the sidebar and after typing a single
character, the usual tabs (Open Contents Recent Tools More) disappear and
are replaced by two tabs "List" and "Context". The "List" tab has the
results that would be given by a TW without your plugin installed and the
"Context" tab (after typing a total of four or more characters) has the
highlighted context results. I like this behavior and would like to
reproduce it in other TWs.

I don't know how this non-standard behavior was achieved. I've tried using
advanced search to find instances of "<$context" expecting to see it used
in a tiddler that configures the sidebar, but it's only in the
plugins\danielo515\... tiddlers (which are common to both TWs). I'm not yet
sufficiently fluent in TW5 to be able to interrogate the "non-standard" and
"standard" TWs and find their differences relating to the sidebar setup.

I don't think tb's link below is quite what I was looking for (thanks tb)
or more likely I haven't understood it (for me, TW is a hard nut to crack).

Thanks, Bob

[tw] Re: How to sort a group of tiddlers based on Field value

2015-09-21 Thread Tobias Beer
Hi Hegart,

> I think this field should be renamed to *sort* or *order* or even
> *sort-order* rather than *list*.
>

At this point, if only for backwards-compatibility,
there is no renaming that field.

I can see how the name "list" field
is not exactly self-explanatory at first.

~

Give yourself some time to digest the TW ecosystem,
there is a lot to learn.
You can trust the core design
to have been carefully crafted.

Starting that journey with TW,
focus on understanding first how things work,
and perhaps why things work the way they work.

~

I hope by now you also see how
defining numbers the way you thought
would not have been easier or better,
if only for it having constrained
any tiddler to only having one number
rather than possibly appear in a number of list fields.

If you ever needed more than one list field,
there is no stopping you from using any other custom field
as if being the list field ...with the appropriate filter.

~

Actually, thinking about all this,
I believe there is a bit of a shortcomming right now in that the fields
list-before and list-after should in fact work like list-fields,
rather than only declare a single tiddler
compared to which the current one is to be sorted
before or after.

After all, as I just said,
any tiddler can appear in a number of list fields.

Best wishes,

— tb
