Downloading, I understand, I don't like it because it adds to the clutter.
But if that is done, finding and loading it in a browser is difficult?
Double-clicking is difficult? :-) cmon, now.

 I also wanted to know people's thought on exports methods to Latex

 (2) better page break in exporting pdf. We need more for professional

 (3) Collaborative remote work with colleagues and students.

 Mohammad's tool has already made work a lot simpler. I have provided

[tw5] Re: Better interoperability when writing math (LaTeX)

2021-03-06 Thread Rahul Kashyap
Dear TW users,

Has there been any improvement over this or, any suggestions for workaround
for the time being.

I would like to second the @Szabolcs' thoughts and request. I like
tiddlywiki a lot and its emphasis on connectivity of different ideas. With
recent addition of bibtex file parser and excellent efforts by Mohammad in
developing a bibtex parser and reference manager
 ( and earlier Shiraz plugin
), TW is going to become one of the
favorite tool for anyone seriously researching into anything.

However, just like @Szabolcs, I feel the need to include easy-to-write and
larger inclusion of latex functions. I noticed a very hopeful plugin in
this direction -- https://github.com/anstosa/tw5-markdown . Here a markdown
commands will be given preference over tiddlywiki commands (TW commands are
fallback) if the Type field of any tiddler has the value "text/x-markdown"
which means that something like that could be done with latex (perhaps by
adding the latex engine in the back). One can still use normal tiddlers in
the same tiddlywiki for multiple purpose for which we like TW.

In another discussion I have posted a sample course material that I have
prepared in TW and has gotten at least a few god response

Re: [tw5] Learning from Roam / Steps to making TiddlyWiki the default notetaking tool

2021-03-06 Thread Charlie Veniot
Yeah, I have to +1 Mohammad's reply.

I use TW5 to create single-page websites and my latest project is using
TiddlyWiki as a solution for recording facts about a universe of discourse
for database-engineering.

As is, TW5 can be used for note-taking, but the various use cases for
TiddlyWiki
 are
really mind-blowing. TW5 is, to me, a hypertext solutions platform for
just about anything.

The more "core" TW5 gets burdened with features applicable to a particular
use case, it makes TW5 heavier (not so great) for all the other use cases.

To me, it sniffs like there are enough folk to maybe collaborate on an
edition of TiddlyWiki that is EverNote-like? I think that would be very
cool. (However, just to be clear: although I think that would be very
cool, that is not an edition of TiddlyWiki that I would be interested in at
all. Not to build it. Not to use it.)

Or just a "recipe" for creating a killer TW5 Note-Taking edition...
(Actually, documented "recipes" for various solutions with TW5 would be
awesome.)

ASIDE: As a WYSIWYG editor, have you tried BJ Tools' Visual Editor
?

Cheers and best regards!

1. The button should really go on the right, where the sidebar is.
But if I put it there, the dropdown goes off the screen to the right.

 Why not use a page control button?

Hi CJ,

It's interesting just to see a snippet of a large project, isolated just to

Something about it feels kind of like time travel.

Sorry for another post, but realized I did not address your input quoted
above from your last post above.

Yes, I saved TW file on MacBookPro after updating it and then emailed it to
myself at work. Then got javascript error when trying to open on work
computer.

Today, I opened the updated TW file on my MacBookPro and it opens OK, no
errors.

Thanks.

[tw5] Re: Using TW html file on Chrome & Firefox - Problem

2021-03-06 Thread ArchiMark
Birthe,

I am not sure, will have to try.

As I noted in my previous post, when you insert a USB flash drive in work
computer, a window opens with message that drive will be encrypted with a
password needed, if you try to copy any files from computer to the flash
drive.

In the past, I was able to copy files from flash drive to my computer.
Don't know if this is still true, as I have not tried this in a long time.

So, don't know for sure what will happen if I try to run portableapp from
flash drive, will have to try and see what happens.

I just installed Chrome browser now on my home MacBookPro and the TW file
opened up OK.

So, if I don't get situation fixed on work computer, then I probably will
use Chrome at home (thereby matching Chrome on work computer) and avoiding
any incompatibility issues from using different browsers.

Meanwhile, just checked TW file that I modified on MacBookPro with Firefox
before emailing to myself at work computer Wednesday evening.

Per TW tutorial video, I did create a new tiddler with a tag
"$:/tags/Sidebar and in the type field, selected "text/x-markdown" and
below that in fields put "list-before" and to the right of that
"$:/core/ui/SideBar/Open". The idea was to create a new tab in in the right
hand side pane called 'Content'.

Could this cause issue with file on my work computer or is it more likely
problem is due to using two different browsers?

Where on your device are the files physically located? How are you opening
them, and with which app? I assume tiddloid, since that's the only listed
android app. Is the file on a secondary drive (sd card) or on your main

 Firstly, thank you to those involved in making TiddlyWiki the amazing
 tool that it is.

 I currently use a proprietary journalling app called Day One
  for keeping a chronological record of special
 family memories, but am keen to migrate to TiddlyWiki.

 In Day One, all entries are automatically sorted by the date that the
 memory occurred, as opposed to when the entry was actually posted. This is
 important to me, because entries are usually added in retrospect and my
 brain doesn't always remember to add them in the order that they actually
 took place!

 For example, if I add three memories that took place in this order on 1
 Jan; 1 Mar; 1 Feb, the entries automatically appear in descending order
 based on the date that the memory occurred like this: 1 Mar; 1 Feb; 1 Jan.

 Is it possible to replicate this behaviour in TiddlyWiki? If so, what
 is the easiest way to set this up? I don't mind playing with things to get
 it working and have a technical background, but please do explain it like
 I'm 5!

 Kind regards,

 Mike

 Please correct me if I am wrong.

 What I did was to change the title of new journal tiddlers to be
 "-0MM-0DD". New journal tiddler automatically get today's date, but
 if
 you have a memory, say from February 1 (2021-02-01), you can edit the
 journal tiddler title to get it in the correct chronological order. A
 right side panel search will put them in chronological order.

[tw5] Re: Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred

2021-03-06 Thread si
@Mike I can see that you are using the tag "Journal" instead of "Memory".
Maybe you forgot to change this in the example code I gave?

So <$list filter="[is[current]tag[Memory]]"> should be <$list
filter="[is[current]tag[Journal]]">.

Having said that it still doesn't explain what I am seeing in your
screenshot. If your test doesn't have any personal data would you be
willing to share it as an attachment? It will be easier to diagnose that
way.

>>> Is it possible to have the date picker appear in the `field value`
input box to simplify entry of `memory-date` instead?

Instead of the tag "$:/tags/ViewTemplate" you could use the tag
"$:/tags/EditTemplate". It does the same thing but transcludes the content
in edit mode rather than view mode. This won't look very neat, but I'm just
giving you a quick and simple way to do it.

Re: [tw5] Re: Reimagining the sidebar, phase two [requesting feedback]

2021-03-06 Thread clutterstack
Hi David,

> I would prefer the parallel tab ($:/.giffmex/sidebar/parallel2
)

to have autocomplete, but can't figure out how to do integrate it with the
comptext plugin.

I suspect this is one of the intended use-cases for comptext, although I am
not familiar with it.

Another option is to use the keyboard-driven-events macro in the core, with
or without a dropdown. This is what the sidebar search uses. Another place
this is used is in the editor toolbar link dropdown

.

It's kind of involved, though. I made myself a plugin macro to make it
simpler, but it has a million parameters (though most are optional) and I
haven't documented it yet. I do intend to. I did write a couple of tutorials

as I worked through how keyboard-driven-input works, and how to put a
dropdown selector with it. Note that the first tutorial doesn't show how to
do anything with the selected search result (which is just a matter of
defining actions to pass as parameters to the keyboard-driven-input macro),
just how the guts of the macro work with its state tiddlers.

Best,
Chris

[tw5] Re: TiddlyStretch: stretchtext in TiddlyWiki

2021-03-06 Thread Soren Bjornstad
David, I just discovered what you mean by "the bullets and text don't align
anyway" because I'm waiting to get a new battery installed in my car and
working on my MacBook at the shop. On my Linux desktop where I usually edit
wikis, they do line up! I guess there is some difference in the default
system font. Some folks have reported similar inconsistencies between
platforms with *Grok TiddlyWiki* (related to font weight, in that case), so
perhaps I need to take a deep dive into this.

Wah! Wha! Goo-goo bah wah!

I can't figure out what to drag/drop to an empty TW to recreate what you
> have at TiddlySpot.
>
>
Be sure to have a backup of your TW file. You need to drag over Evan
Balster's spreadsheet plugin from the plugins. And you need to drag over:

DayLog ViewTemplate

FoodItem ViewTemplate

CarboConfig

If you want my pre-configured set of foods, you need to find something
tagged with "FoodItem" and drag the tag to your file.

Also, while I have your ear, Mark, would I be correct in assuming that this
> 'application' would afford me the opportunity to add in my own items
> (thinking brand-name foods that I purchase), and enter in the nutritional
> information for each, and be able to sort, track, etc. on that data?
>
>
You can certainly set up your own foods. Whether you can do the things you
want depends exactly on what you're thinking of. At the moment it just does
what is presented -- allows you to keep a log of (theoretically) 20
nutrients. It tallies up the totals for your chosen nutrients on any given
day. It presents the first nutrient in detail. You can copy an existing
item, modify it (especially the "field" value). Then add that field name to
your daily log fields at the bottom of your daily log tiddler. Inside the
CarboConfig tiddler you can set how many nutrients to calculate, and which
ones.

To facilitate the process of adding new foods, there is an existing
database of 8000 items modified for CarboCommander over at:

https://nutrition-database.tiddlyhost.com//

It will take several seconds to load. Type into the search box some key
term (e.g. "kellog", "banana", ) and you'll find dozens (hundreds?) of
hits. Navigate to one that's close to what you want. Then drag and drop
into your working TW file. Edit to suit your needs.

> Really I'm most interested in 1) Carbohydrates, 2) Sodium, 3) Fat and 4)
> Protein in each item.
>

Carbs, Sodium, and Protein are fields that are already represented in the
food database. For Fat, you'll either have to create your own field, or
use the more specific FA Mono, FA Saturated, FA Poly which was how the
USDA database represented the nutrients.

This was all built using Evan Balster's math formulae. Now there are enough
math tools inside TW to do it without them. I guess if I was doing it now
I'd use those instead, because I recall having to do a lot of tricky
wikifying to get Evan's tools to work with this data.

Don't get old, folks...

[tw5] Re: Using TW html file on Chrome & Firefox - Problem

2021-03-06 Thread stan...@gmail.com
In the 2007-2008 era of TW classic, I used to run portable FF with my TW on
a USB Flash drive that I would carry between my 3 offices (at the time). I
loved Portable Apps - *you run it off of the USB drive, it does not install
on your machine*. Once you install Portable Apps on the USB drive, use
Portable Apps to install the portable version of FF (or Chrome, but I would
choose one) to the USB drive.

I don't know about the Mac/Windows compatibility, though. It looks like it
will run on macOS via one of four different virtual machines. WineBottler
and PlayOnMac are free. I have never tested a Windows VM on my Macs,
though.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes. I may just try the VM on my MacBooks
and Linux box...and go back to Portable Apps.

   1. The button should really go on the right, where the sidebar is. But
   if I put it there, the dropdown goes off the screen to the right.

Why not use a page control button?

Just updated the dropdown slightly. Instead of individual checkboxes, it is

[tw5] Re: Sidebar redesign idea

2021-03-06 Thread Hans Wobbe
David:

Another (browser) technique to reduce "clutter" is to make use of the "Open
in a new window" capability. This creates an effective popup that you can
dismiss when doe, or k,keep open for reference by just positioning it in
another area of your display(s). It's very effective if you have large
screens and even more so when using mutiple displays.

 David,

 I like it on my screen. I don't have strong feelings about it in
 general, but my first impression is that Control Panel access through the
 sidebar may be more intuitive than opening it in the story. That is
 affected by the sidebar width, of course. Then, given that you're putting
 more config stuff in the sidebar, it starts to make sense to have a
 hierarchy of tabs, and the Tools tab fits right in with the other Setup
 tabs -- except that occasionally it is useful as a collection of buttons I
 don't use a lot. That's the problem with a hierarchy...and not a specific
 problem with this idea.

 I guess the Work tab would be filled with whatever the author likes to
 have one click away.

 I think this is an interesting idea that caters for both newer TW
 admins and for wikis that have a separation between author and user, which
 are both good angles to explore.

 Best,
 Chris

[tw5] Re: Calories & Carbs & Fiber, Oh My

2021-03-06 Thread Zaphod Beeblebrox
Hiya, Mark, et al (not taking into account any users actually named 'Al'
:-P ) :)

I bookmarked this thread wy back in the long ago when it first
appeared, meaning to delve into it in depth later and mine its goodness,
but, alas, much H2O has passed beneath the proverbial span since then, and
my TW skills (what there were of them, anyway) have dimmed and waned to the
point that I forget how to use most parts of the darned thing...

In terms that a 3-year-old might understand, how do I download, assemble
and use the Carbo Commander and its accompanying data, in a local file on
my computer?

I can't figure out what to drag/drop to an empty TW to recreate what you
have at TiddlySpot.

Also, while I have your ear, Mark, would I be correct in assuming that this
'application' would afford me the opportunity to add in my own items
(thinking brand-name foods that I purchase), and enter in the nutritional
information for each, and be able to sort, track, etc. on that data?

Really I'm most interested in 1) Carbohydrates, 2) Sodium, 3) Fat and 4)
Protein in each item.

Don't get old, folks...

[tw5] Tw on android doesn’t load changes

2021-03-06 Thread 'Florian Felix' via TiddlyWiki
Hey,
I love the idea of tw and would love to use it as a crossdevice–Notebook
and a base for a static Blog where I incorporate notes. (Digital Garden)
(would be great if more templates would be available for that matter)
However, when I open the wiki file I transferred from my PC on my android
os via any of the listed apps or ff (I use mull, a security mod), it
doesn’t load the changes I made, but rather starts the wiki from zero –
„getting started“ is being displayed and the wiki name is set back, the
plugins aren‘t loaded but rather than that I get a load of code beneath the
displayed tiddler.
Does somebody know why that happens or what I could do?

[tw5] Re: Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred

2021-03-06 Thread mej...@gmail.com
@Torax - no, looking to sort by date of the memory itself rather than date
the memory was posted.

@Si - that sounds like what I had in mind. I will give this a try and post
an update.

@Stan - that’s correct. Although would prefer not to have to perform a
search to view the posts.

Thank you all for your help. I will have a go and see if I can set this up
and post an update.

All items can be displayed by default in their respective tabs! Then using
a search box you can search by entering a keyword and then limit the result!
Like searching for settings in Android!

This is just my opinion! Ignore where not relevant!

There were some ideas by Nico and he was working to create a community

If so, plugin authors, contributing to such community libraries could be

I think even having a plugin tiddler with a title like
$:/plugins/author/name/tidname can be used as a customized view template to
see it as a tidname, but you have to overwrite some core tiddlers. Maybe
this can be added officially by Jeremy!

That's very kind of you! I think Shiraz by using a small part of css
classes of Bootstrap (a very popular and yet wonderful CSS framework) is
sufficient for creating almost many visual elements you like to include in
your wiki/webpage/blog/doc, etc...

To this end add dynamic tables and image macros! One drawback I really have
to work on is the size of the plugin! It is 110kB while it is not too much
but I like to decrease it!

I have made my own TW app with all these essential plugins
(Shiraz+Commander+Todolist+Favorites+Utility+Trashbin AND
relink+CodeMirror+CodeMirror subplugins) and then use the wonderful Uglify
from Flibbles to create a minified version and I have an empty.html =
2.636MB which is 10kB less than the official empty.html

Best wishes
Mohammad

[tw5] Re: TiddlyStretch: stretchtext in TiddlyWiki

2021-03-06 Thread Soren Bjornstad
Sorry about the broken link. I changed the casing of the name after
publishing, and apparently GitHub Pages URLs are case-sensitive, but it
kept the page available at the old casing for a little while while I
checked to see if it was, so then I thought it was not case-sensitive and
didn't think I needed to update it. Here's a new link:
https://sobjornstad.github.io/TiddlyStretch/

Thanks for sharing the other implementations! The way I tend to use it,
separate tiddlers is a much more useful layout, but I can see the benefit
of embedding the text in arbitrary macros, too. Unfortunate that I named my
macro the same as Mat's plugin – didn't know about that one before I
started. Hopefully nobody will try to use both implementations together.

> Having extra fields needs extra work. So as an option may be you could
have a first paragraph as your smallField

Ooh, I like this idea.

> 6. How did you get the tag colors separated in your Explore tab > Tags
tab??? I like that idea a lot. Makes it easy to narrow down the kinds of
tabs and check them quickly

Change $:/core/Filters/AllTags!!filter to
[tags[]!is[system]sort[title]sort[color]] (sort[color] added).

> Are the bullets also redundant? The icons seem to function as the bullet,
standing at the head of the text as they do. The bullets and text don't
align anyway. You might think about creating a class for special lists
where the bullet is removed entirely.

The main reason I put bullets in was because having them as separate
paragraphs didn't look good in many cases; each “paragraph” was too small
and there was too much space between them. But I agree there are cases
where the bullet points don't really look great either. A better way might
be to add a CSS class to the list generated by stretch-links that removes
the bullet points and tweaks the spacintg (perhaps optionally). I'll play
around with different options here. Sometimes the text really feels like a
list, as in Laws of Cynicism
, and the bullets
might still be useful.

[tw5] Plugin-packaging/display: Ideas and Suggestions

2021-03-06 Thread dieg...@gmail.com
Hello all,

I really like the Projectify plugin's inclusion
of its excellent and thorough documentation *as part of the plugin* itself.
This means all the documentation is included "in the namespace of the
plugin":

$:/plugins/nico/projectify/doc/etc...

I frequently forget the details of specific plugins, and then have to go
back to open them, see if they have a readme, if they do great! If they
dont have meaningful one, see if they have a link to a github demo, if they
do great! If they dont, have to search google (not google groups since I
hate google groups search), etc. etc.

So, to not make this post too long, some suggestions for plugin authors (of
course, with the utmost respect and humility knowing full well I'm not a
plugin author myself), is to:

   - Follow in the great Mohammad's footsteps and always have clearly
   indicated a "Demo" and "code" link in the README of the plugin.
   - Follow in Nico (and many others as well, just the latest one I can
   remember) steps of including comprehensive documentation packaged right
   along with the plugin itself!

A side note: For point two above, I recently posted a feature suggested on
GitHub about letting plugin authors more easily edit the viewTemplate of
their plugins, getting rid of the (potentially) "scary" $:/plugins/... in
the title, and instead exposing something like:

Plugins > Projectify > Documentation

even though the tiddler is of course actually titled
"$:/plugins/nico/projectity/...". I closed it after some discussion, but I
thought I'd mention it here in case anyone would like to share their
thoughts about this possibility as well.

Best,
Diego

[tw5] No menubar documentation?

2021-03-06 Thread David Gifford
Hi all

Just wanted to point out that on tiddlywiki.com when you search for menubar
or top menu, nothing comes up. That would be VERY frustrating to anyone
trying to see how to add that to their wiki. Can someone who does GitHub
please add something there, even if just a pull request for someone to add
a tiddler or two on how to add it and how to add items to it? Thanks!

[tw5] Re: Sidebar redesign idea

2021-03-06 Thread David Gifford
Thanks Hans!

I am now thinking about the top menu bar that is on tiddlywiki.com as a
place to put buttons that change the sidebar content. Even more efficient!
I will post here.

Yes, I was thinking that such a system should have instructions so users
can rearrange tabs as desired.

My goals in doing this were:
1. Reduce or eliminate everything above the tabs and slide the tabs up so
we can see more of the tabs (there is still that pesky space there, and
even inspecting the page didn't help me see what it is...)
2. Reorganize the tabs by function: tabs for newbies, tabs to set up the
file, tabs to work, and "stuff I never use"
3. Imagine what other tabs would be helpful. A help tab with links to the
forum is one such tab.

[tw5] Re: Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred

2021-03-06 Thread stan...@gmail.com
I don't think Mike wants tiddler-creation-timestamp. The way I understand
Mike's question is that he doesn't always remember to make the journal
entry on the day of (say, Jan 1) but might make it on January 5, or even
February 5 - after he has made the February 1 Journal entry.

The first step, of course, is to change the 'Title of New Journal Tiddlers'
in the Control Panel to be something like '-0MM-0DD'. If you make the
journal entry on the day of, creating the new journal entry will populate
the title with the string something like '2021-03-06'. If I forgot to make
February's entry, I could create a journal entry and simply edit the
journal tiddler title to be '2021-02-01'. Create a few entries and do a
simple search from the right hand pane and they will be sorted.

Torax's code won't work as written with this simplistic scheme, but could
be easily modified. I am off to get my vaccine, so I'll get back to this
later, if this has helped at all.

[tw5] Re: Way of organising and transcluding things

2021-03-06 Thread David Gifford
You might try Stroll (https://giffmex.org/stroll/stroll.html), and in the
pink eyeball tab, select the Highlights in context option.

That way, the MaryDoe tiddler will show at the bottom, all the backlinks
from other tiddlers to MaryDoe in context, so you can see which tiddlers
you want to open to see more detail, and the links will be right there.

Also, if you have camelcase links enabled, you can write MaryDoe, and not
bother with the brackets.

[tw5] Re: TiddlyStretch: stretchtext in TiddlyWiki

2021-03-06 Thread David Gifford

I added this to the Toolmap, next to the other two stretch texts plugins
mentioned in this thread.

Comments:

1. I like this approach in that the stretch text is a separate tiddler, and
the tiddler is easily accessed by the button, to edit it.
2. The magnifying glass with the plus and minus was a good icon choice.
3. To each his/her own re: choices, but if I were to do this, I would have
only the magnifying glass visible, then when you click that, I would have
all but the button to open the tiddler. Why? a) when reading, the less
clutter and confusion, the better. b) when you open the stretch, if you
already have the tiddler title link there, the other button to the view
mode of the tiddler is redundant.
4. Are the bullets also redundant? The icons seem to function as the
bullet, standing at the head of the text as they do. The bullets and text
don't align anyway. You might think about creating a class for special
lists where the bullet is removed entirely.
5. Thank you for your willingness to share your at times very personal
TiddlyWiki. It is a goldmine of ideas, nicely organized. I now want to read
through it!
6. How did you get the tag colors separated in your Explore tab > Tags
tab??? I like that idea a lot. Makes it easy to narrow down the kinds of
tabs and check them quickly.

[tw5] Re: Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred

2021-03-06 Thread stan...@gmail.com
Mike, what I think you are asking about is making journal entries after the
date of the memory, but having it appear in chronological order. Please
correct me if I am wrong.

What I did was to change the title of new journal tiddlers to be
"-0MM-0DD". New journal tiddler automatically get today's date, but if
you have a memory, say from February 1 (2021-02-01), you can edit the
journal tiddler title to get it in the correct chronological order. A
right side panel search will put them in chronological order.

[tw5] Re: Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred

2021-03-06 Thread si
@Mike This is totally achievable in TiddlyWiki, but it depends on exactly
how you want to store your data.

One approach would be to create a new tiddler for each memory that you want
to capture, and then use a field to store the date that it occurred.

1. Create a new tiddler, tag it "Memory" (or whatever you want), and fill
in the title and text as you please.
2. Go to "Add new field" at the bottom of the tiddler, and create a field
called "memory-date" (or whatever you want), with the date as its value.
3. To generate a list of all memories and sort by date, from newest to
oldest, you can add the following macro to another tiddler:

<>

One thing you might want to do is use the date-picker plugin
 to make it easier to set the date:

1. Install the plugin as per the instructions on the site.
2. Create a new tiddler with whatever name you want, and tag it
"$:/tags/ViewTemplate". This is a special tag that tells TiddlyWiki to
automatically display the contents of the tiddler on every other tiddler in
the wiki.
3. Add the following text to the tiddler:

<$list filter="[is[current]tag[Memory]]">
<$edit-date icon="$:/plugins/kixam/datepicker/icon" field="memory-date"/>

Now you will have a date picker icon on every tiddler with the tag
"Memory". So you don't need to edit the field directly, just click on the
icon and select the date.

[tw5] Re: Sidebar redesign idea

2021-03-06 Thread Hans Wobbe
David:

I think it's an interesting addition to "minimalist" design concepts in
which folks have been trying to reduce what they see as visible clutter.
I've noticed my Tiddlers have been moving in this direction for several
years. However, I never really thought of applying this to the Sidebar
area before now. (Taken to its limits, a single pixel in the upper left
corned of the focus area might be the ideal 'de-clutter'.)

Instead, in the Sidebar, I've used the standard Sidebar components to host
CamelCase links to persistent entry points as a balance of the Ultimate
possibility against practical efficienciess.

Your suggestion has piqued my interest in trying customizing the SideBar
area. I suspect this will end up being tailored by individual users for
the own preferences and by Edition authors for their applications.

It will be interesting to see how far this proceeds.

Thanks for this idea "spark" as well as your many other contributions.

[tw5] Re: Menu bar drop downs misplaced at right side

2021-03-06 Thread 'torax...@googlemail.com' via TiddlyWiki
Here some additional information, so far I understand it. All based on the
current git-checkout of the source-code.

The "troublemaker" is the reveal-widget in `menu.tid`, line 58:

```<$reveal type="popup" state=<> class={{{
[get[dropdown]get[class]] }}} tag="div">```
Reveal knows the positions `left`, `above`, `aboveleft`, `aboveright`,
`right`, `belowleft`, `belowright` and `below`.
But all this positions are oriented on the position in relation to the
activator-button and generating a left-aligned div-box.
Default is "below" hence the observed behavior and missing position
attribute in the command.
So my problem can't be solved with the build in options, if I assume
correct.
[tw5] Sort journal posts by date that memory occurred
2021-03-06 Thread mej...@gmail.com
Firstly, thank you to those involved in making TiddlyWiki the amazing tool
that it is.
I currently use a proprietary journalling app called Day One
 for keeping a chronological record of special
family memories, but am keen to migrate to TiddlyWiki.
In Day One, all entries are automatically sorted by the date that the
memory occurred, as opposed to when the entry was actually posted. This is
important to me, because entries are usually added in retrospect and my
brain doesn't always remember to add them in the order that they actually
took place!
For example, if I add three memories that took place in this order on 1
Jan; 1 Mar; 1 Feb, the entries automatically appear in descending order
based on the date that the memory occurred like this: 1 Mar; 1 Feb; 1 Jan.
Is it possible to replicate this behaviour in TiddlyWiki? If so, what is
the easiest way to set this up? I don't mind playing with things to get it
working and have a technical background, but please do explain it like I'm
5!
Kind regards,
Mike
 Thanks for the reply.
 I have used inline editing of transcluded tiddlers with rider plug in
 in my TWs (https://clutterstack.github.io/can-tw/rider-plugin/). I was
 referring to a similar functionality.
 I have also seen such an implementation in this instance of TW (
 https://trisaster.github.io/#All%20Pages). See the reference section
 where there is option to edit tiddlers by double clicking(since its using
 streams plug in). I am not sure whether these references are transcluded
 tiddlers or not.
 Regarding buttons, I don't have any ideas as of now. When I have more
 ideas, I will share it here. When there are many references, these buttons
 are actually useful. It looks slightly odd when there a few references
 only.
[tw5] Way of organising and transcluding things
2021-03-06 Thread Ray Vermey
Hi all
My current way of organising my tiddles is as follows:
Mainly i create a Journal tiddler everyday with title of the date and put
in there the things i've done, like so:
---
Call with [[JohnDoe]] to organise event. He thoughtbla..
He also asked  bla
Student [[MaryDoe]] mailed me the contract for internship at company
[[CompDoe]]
Send schedule to [[StudentDoe]] like agreed
---
Something that way...
So i have a list of dated Journals and i can see what ive did that day when
i click the tiddler.
Now i wanted to be able to click on the say [[MaryDoe]] in a tiddler and i
would like to see only the line (until the ) so that i get all the info
over time i wrote about Mary
I need to extract that lines of text from all tiddlers where she appears i
think.
Not sure how to do that. So in a way i see all her history in one view.
But... then i was thinking: why not create a separate tiddler called
MaryDoe and put in there every new stuff on the days i have to do something
for her, or when she contacts me etc..
That would make things easier when i retrieve her historical data because
when i click her title the information shows up because it us all in one
tiddler.
Now i only would like to have some way of knowing on what days i updated
her tiddler.
So the historical view is visible.
Am i thinkinkg the right way or is there another way of realising this??
I feel for the seperate tiddlers approach but how can i see an overview
like:
1 Mar 21 : Action so and so
3 Jan 21: Call so and so
31Dec20: Lines of text added on this day.
 This is also the line of text added this day..
Any thoughts??
CHeers
Ray
Your OP is very detailed and well written, which is good. On the other hand
it will need some time to read it, and probably a lot more time to respond.
I did create the uni-link plugin, which you named several times in the OP.
... I think "some" of your requests may be possible with uni-link
extensions and others may be easier using a new "concept", instead of
linking. ... BUT ... I have to think about it.
Technically the link [[alias|?]] calls the <> macro
.
aka = also known as ..
I did already think about a syntax like this: [[alias name|!macro-name]]
... The problem with macro-calls is, that many of them need more than 1
parameters. ... So we need a way to call macros and give them enough
additional information, that they can do something useful.
I do have a new plugin in the making, that may be able to solve this
problem. eg: 『?:"alias-name":"relation type" text to be shown』
The aka macro call can already be detected as an "alias backlink", if the
uni-link plugin is installed. ... So it should be possible to create "new
relational" backlinks logic, that can be detected ...
So a combination of the new Custom Markup Plugin and the Uni-link plugin
may solve several of the mentioned problems.
... But as I wrote, ... I need to think about it.
have fun!
[tw5] Re: Some more thoughts on linking in TW (aliases, display text, and relationship types: Oh My!)
2021-03-06 Thread maki aea
hi diego, re: the posts thing, for me part of it is i am mostly on mobile,
and it is relatively painful (probably just haven't figured out a good way)
to reply to messages on google groups, without using a text editor and
copying the text back in to a message to post. maybe there is a guide
somewhere for gg newbies but this page suggests it's intended behaviour
https://gatlabs.com/blogpost/improved-mobile-interface-for-google-groups/
it makes it hard to continue to reply in a conversation as there is a lot
of friction for a mobile user, so the bar for replying is raised somewhat
from where it could be.
in agreement with david, posting time is probably relevant, in this case i
can reply only because pretty much my only free time during the week is
right now and i can switch to an ipad to do it!
regarding your original linking topic, i might be speaking for a lot of
newbies who have never heard of unilink until now, and like me are still
getting our heads around the "extended external link"! but reading your
post and everyone's replies lets that knowledge percolate in (i hope) and
kickstarts my own thinking about "issues of concern", which is super
helpful, so thank you for posting, though i wouldn't normally reply as i
currently don't know enough of the background to this to contribute
something directly useful.
so it got me thinking about things like discovering anwiki exists; for new
users we are heavily dependent on search as we don't know enough yet to see
why example wikis might be relevant to our particular situation (david's
list)
but this also makes the window for contributing to gg posts very narrow,
unless you are already at the matching level of knowledge, AND watching the
group/able to find the post, AND have means to reply, AND have something
ready to contribute
so for example here a tw newbie might not understand yet how super
interesting your topic is, because it is so "meta", i.e.
thinking-about-thinking; or another example peter's firebase backend on the
tw dev gg/tw github discussion which is also super cool and useful, or,
well, pretty much everyone's contribution on this group once we get our
heads around how useful it is!
whereas a gg newbie like me has trouble just replying in the first place, i
mean, i have to stop now because i had to spend a while figuring out touch
focus required to scroll this reply and the post on safari desktop mode on
the ipad :)
some things will semi-randomly catch fire and become popular, keep up the
great work everyone!
until next time xx
[tw5] Menu bar drop downs misplaced at right side
2021-03-06 Thread 'torax...@googlemail.com' via TiddlyWiki
Hi @all,
the “new” menu bar is really a bless, because now I’ve the whole screen to
operate and the wiki behaves a little bit like an application. The option
to place items on the right side via “float: right;” is also helpful. Only
annoyance is a drop down menu in this context: It is still aligned with the
left limit of the menu-item and so parts of the displayed popup-bubble is
displayed outside of the window.
[image: pic1.jpg]
While analyzing the problem I noticed, the pop-up derives its placement
coordinates from the -element. So is there a way to simple change the
placement instructions from “left” to “right”, if the style includes a
“float:right;”?
[image: pic2.jpg]
[image: pic3.jpg]
Thanks for your Input.
Cheers.
