I have added this for you... Tough I personally would recommend not to use
it, as the lists will not appear if there is no connections in them.

If using the plugin with mat's material theme, some of the UI was not
hidden by the login prompt. This is fixed and the z-value can be changed in
the settings panel, to avoid possible future troubles.

In this version I have added log of when/by who the wiki is opened. It can
be enable it in settings-panel.

But after making it, I got thinking. What is the point? is this useful?? I
am not realy sure. I mean you have a log when people make an edit anyway,
and if you want to hide that you use the wiki, you could always just type
another name. any way, it is there now and you can toggle it as you like.
What do you think do this feature make any sense?

*Announcement*: LoginCurtain-mod

*Date*: 2020/09/22
*Release*: 1.0.0

Download: LoginCurtain-mod

Hi everyone
I just want to announce my mod of the loginCurtain mod. This is a mod of
the very cool logincurtain plugin
 by
Jan (JJ).

Audience: For multi user wiki's

Function: blocks the wiki until a username is set. This way no one forgets
to set a username before editing the wiki. NB: this is not a lock or
encryption of the wiki.

Jan's made the hard work with his plugin by blocking the UI until the
username is set in a login prompt.

In this mod, I

   - make the UI more professional (e.g. boring) for use in the workplace
   - present an interface for picking a pre-made user.
   - provide a user management tab in Control Panel/Info/login-settings.
   - a button to create a user tiddler that also shows what tiddlers the
   user has made or modified.
   - customisations of buttons, text and icons in Control
   Panel/Info/login-settings.

2020-09-21 Thread HC Haase
HI Jan and everyone else.

I have solved the problem and now have a functioning mod of Jans very nice
plugin :)

Thank you Jan for the info on how to tweak your plugin and thanks for
building the first plugin. I think it is quite useful in a multi user wiki.

here is my mod.
https://hchaase.github.io/HC-Plugins/#LoginCurtain-mod%20Introduction

This mod add

   1. modified login background to be more professional (e.g. boring)
   2. present a interface for picking a pre-made user.
   3. provide a user management tab in Control Panel/Info/login-settings.
   4. a button to create a user tiddler that also show what tiddlers the
   user has made or modified.
   5. customisations of buttons, text and icons in Control
   Panel/Info/login-settings.

Re: [tw5] Re: A small Plugin for a dramatic login-screen.

2020-09-10 Thread HC Haase
Hi Jan

I have been working on a mod of your plugin and it works* but only in your
login curtain wiki*. when I export the plugin to an empty wiki, my mod
don't work any more. I suspect, that there are some tiddler not mentioned
in the mod that do some stuff. I have looked through the code, but I can't
figure it out. If you could have a look I would be very grateful.

what My mod do

I have tried to explain it in detail in the wiki.
The mod use the tiddler $:/Plugins/Screenwriting/WelcomeButton (modifed) to
show a list of predefined users to pic from. there is a button to go to
"guest" that gives the original login prompt, and button to go to the list
of predefined user again.

also adds some jazz for customisation and user management in settings.

a quick way to indent in the in the text can be done with:

: indented text
or

I have modified sk's *Indent *plugin to use this. you can also just use the
plugin as is. I have attached my mod

Dear everyone
Do to the general situation I did not have time to set aside for TW. That
coupled with the community going in another direction than me, and my
enthusiasm faded. I have been away for a long time so sorry for the late
reply. I hope to be back in the TWorld again.

that's great to hear. I had the impression that I was the only one using my
plugin. Happy to know you find it useful. This gives me motivation to
continue.

Do you plan to add *freelinks* in the future as well ?

Yes. when I get the time. I will look into it soon.

I am wondering how the UI of freelinks should be. a dropdown of its own or

[tw5] Re: Stop Taking Regular Notes; Use a Zettelkasten Instead

2020-06-05 Thread HC Haase
I have tried to use tw to build a zettelkasten almost form start of my tw
journey.

I have made a button and template for making zettle notes. it is mostly a
checklist to prime myself to think in a zettelkasten manner before I type
my note. But it works quite well I think. have a look - tiddlers attached.

@TT i have to check out that discussion :). I haven't had much TW time

[tw5] Re: Possible Bug - New Journals no longer get Journal tag?

2020-05-20 Thread HC Haase
I had this problem wiki wide - meaning this did not work elsewhere either.

solution:
find $:/core/ui/EditTemplate/tags via Advanced Search/Shadows, delete this
tiddler. this way the (correct) shadow tiddler will kick in.

[tw5] Re: [plugin] TOC generic - shows toc, backlinks, list and listed up front

2020-05-20 Thread HC Haase
*Announcement*: TOC Generic
*Date*: 2020/05/20
*Release*: 2.1.0

Downlaod/demo:
https://hchaase.github.io/HC-Plugins/#TOC-Generic%20Introduction

@TonyM: Thank you for your comments, I will get back to them when time
permits

The reveal content of all tiddlers (transcluison) was introduced in
version 2, now version 2.1.0 introduce reveal content button, for
individual tiddler as well. And the caption field is now also shown in the
transclusion view.

I have realised, that some of the functions of this plugin have been
overlooked, so I attempt to make the presentation / documentation more
clear.

I hope you like it. next version will include more customisation options.

   -
   - *all lists are collapsible*. All sublists can be closed/opened by
clicking on the header for the list.
   - *all lists are conditional*, the lists will ONLY appear if there is
something in them (e.g. if you don't see the backlink list, it is because
there are no backlinks to that tiddler)
   - many things are *customisable*: e.g. if you dont like the top header
to be called "References" you can change it in the settings

Below is a screenshot showing the functions

   1. button to to toggle transclusion mode. also positioned at the bottom
right of the lists (handy if you have long lists
   2. button to to toggle individual transclusion mode
   3. modified and created date is shown in the bottom right corner of
transcluded tiddlers (can be turned off in the readme)
   4. the background and text of the transclusion follows the theme (code
background) so you can use *dark themes*
   5. the headings (e.g. lists and listed) only show if there is something
   in them

What's the difference between TiddlyBlink and TOC generic you might think?

TiddlyBlink a TW version and is more focused on linking and have a complete
setup for building a link-centred wiki. The TOC generic plugin can use tags
as well as links, and are more focused on showing information and
connections, not editing. TOC generic is a plugin and can be used in any
wiki with a pre-existing organisation.

Changelog

v. 2.1.0

   - [New] added transclusion of individual tiddlers, to the *toc,
backlinks, list* and *listed* (also recursive through the toc)(from
   tiddly blink)
   - [New] enable use of the caption field (if present) in transclusion
   mode, for link/list/listed
   - [Change] Improved documentation
   - [New] moved settings from ./readme to ./settings tiddler

v. 2.0.0

   - [New] added transclusion of tiddlers, to the *toc, backlinks, list*
and *listed* (also recursive through the toc)(from tiddly blink)
   - [New] added toggle transclusion button at the "references" top and at
the end of transcluded *toc, backlinks, list* and *listed*. Also
   available in the readme
   - [New] added modified/created date in the bottom right corner of
transcluded tiddlers in the lists (toggle in readme)
   - [New] made the transclusion background (grey box) and text, follow the
theme (code class). This means you can use dark themes and still read the
   text.
   - [Change] changed settings from radio buttons to checkbox in the readme

say you have a tiddler showing no references. you dont know if that is
because there are no tag, backlinks, list or listed, OR it is because you
at some point in the past excluded it. my workaround is the ability to hide
everything behind the "references" button. Though I am all ears for better
suggestions.

One finally thing to consider is the space consumed by you solution to

you are right. yes please explain. are you thinking of having all the

[tw5] Plugin design: splitting up vs. duplicating

2020-05-09 Thread HC Haase
In developing my plugin I can see a couple of features could be usefull as
seperate plugins of there own.

I wonder what would be best practice

1. To keep everything in one plugin
self contained, easy to install, but only on plugin. However, if functions
are copied to another plugin later, this would take more space. It could also
complicate things if two plugins edit the same shadow tiddler.

2. Make a main plugin with dependencies on smaller plugins
This would give several different plugins but would be more cumbersome to
install and to maintain. And it could be a mess in the future, if by mistake, a
plugin update will break a dependency.

And what if you use something from a plugin from someone else? E.g. a
background from shiraz. Then you have no control over future updates. Would it
then be best to copy the function from the plugin to your own or to make a
dependency?

This look very nice. I like the way you are handling the freelinks. I will
have a better look when I have more time.

There are a lot of activity around connections lately.

* my own newly updated toc generic

I think my toc generic plugin have some of the same functionality as this
one but in a different layout, though not the freelinks feature.

Below you can see some of the new features

   1. button to to toggle transclusion mode. also positioned at the bottom
right of the lists (handy if you have long lists
   2. modified and created date is shown in the bottom right corner of
transcluded tiddlers (can be turned off in the readme)
   3. the background and text of the transclusion follows the theme (code
background) so you can use dark themes

What's the difference between TiddlyBlink and TOC generic you might think?

TiddlyBlink a TW version and is more focused on linking and have a complete
setup for building a link-centred wiki. The TOC generic plugin can use tags
as well as links, and are more focused on showing information and
connections, not editing. TOC generic is a plugin and can be used in any
wiki with a pre-existing organisation.

Changelog

[tw5] Re: Internal linking workflow

2020-04-29 Thread HC Haase
the [[*]] is wikitext syntax so it should not work in markdown.. because it
is not markdown.

The autosuggestion in tiddlyblink come from the edit-comptext plugin. you
can use it in any tw edition

I also started out using markdown, I switched to wikitext because I found
it superior in many ways.

the way I linked in markdown to other tiddlers was like
[link](#TITTLER-TITLE) the # do the trick. I also made a snippet for this
and other markdown stuff, will attach it.

But I will also suggest using wikitext instead because:

   - you can use the edit-comptext plugin. and most plugin are made for
   wikitext
   - with wikitext links, you can use backlinks, count etc.(note that
backlinks in MD will not work)
   - fast to type
   - you can use transclusions
   - you can use macros
   - you can use excise (this is very useful to not break writing flow)
   - there are some good wikitext plugins e.g.
  - convert email to wikitext
  - covert html to wiktext
  - convert excel to wikitext table

how do I link my tiddlers? for categories and topics I use tags (with
autocomplete regardless of tiddler type) for direct and ad-hoc links I use
tiddler links. If I cant remember the title I do a search and drag, n drop
the title to the tiddler, and it will drop as a link (I also turn on titles
as link, for this reason)

But I Would love to use markdown. In my perfect world, a wikitext with
markdown substituting all standard typography and wikitext for the rest
(transclusions, macro etc) would be perfect.

there is also the markdown like plugin by JB

2020-04-22 Thread HC Haase
I am in the process of updating on of my plugins and I wondered

if you don't use any parameters, is there any point in making a macro
instead of transcluding a snippet of code?

is there a best practice? Or could anyone give me some pro/cons? I wouldn't
want to complicate things unnecessarily.

Re: [tw5] Re: Many tags slow TW down?

2020-04-21 Thread HC Haase
Hi Tony

I am a long time converted zetteler. My wiki is also an tempt to follow the
zettlekasten method. I see a lot of merit in the method so let me correct
you. It is not about avoiding categories, the idea is to avoid forcing a
structure of categories. Instead you to let the categories emerge from your
associations and work with the notes. you don´t put your notes into a
limiting structure of categories but you let the categories emerge from
your notes.

great and it has been a wish of mine for a long time.

However, if you use the great Relink
plugin, and rely on all links to
be renamed if you edit the title of a tiddler, alas there is a shortcoming.
The freelink link is not a hard link and will not be edited by Relink.

I think Mohammads plugin combined with yours will make a very powerful read

my problem was to get both the $:/core and a custom filter in a field, to
be excluded. if I wrote the filter in the code, it worked, If I transcluded
a field with the both my filter and thet $:/core, it worked, but if I had
the $:/core in the code or other transcluded field, and a transcluded user
field for a filter, i did not work.
I guess I am just not experienced enough with TW code.

[tw5] Re: [TW5] ReadOnlyCore - real read-only mode for tiddlywiki

2020-03-26 Thread HC Haase
This is nice.

I was thinking, that it could be useful to also exclude normal tiddlers
with a filter. this way you could have a button to only export the tiddlers
you want from your wiki, to a read only version ready to publish.

I tried hacking it together. it work when I hardcode the filter, but I
can't get it to work with a field reference.

[tw5] [macro] presenting new icon macro (for icons in text)

2020-03-11 Thread HC Haase
First off. This is not mine. I found it by chance, on Bimlas' page. so
credit to him.

I have made some documentation and added an extended version.

demo/download: https://hchaase.github.io/HC-Plugins/#macro%2Ficon

   - *Version*: 1.0.0
   - *Date*: 2020/02/27
   - *Creator*: HC Haase. Inspired by Bimlas
   <https://bimlas.gitlab.io/tw5-locator/#%24%3A%2Fbimlas%2Fmacros%2Ficon>.

Function

This macro make transcluded icons follow the line height of the text with
the option of a link and a tooltip. This makes prettier references to
buttons (instead of this ) in documentation text.

There is a* simple macro* without a button and an *extended macro* with a
button.

extended macro< "" >>

[tw5] Re: [TW5][Plugin] Announcing TOC Counting

2020-03-11 Thread HC Haase
*Announcement*: TOC counting v 2.2 Big update
*Date*: 2020/03/11
*Release*: 2.2.0

Demo and download:
https://hchaase.github.io/HC-Plugins/#TOC_Counting%20Introduction

OK this is a big update, I am really satisfied now, except for one issue.

I am happy that

I have implemented what others asked for:

   - integration with bimlas locator plugin
   - integration with P marios tocP plugin

I have done what I wanted in the roadmap

   - added the counting in lists
   - counting of tiddlers in all sub-levels (see warning)

added new cool stuff

   - counting of both tagged and backlinks (toggable)
   - a nicer toggle button in the page toolbar

warning: I am not so happy that

   - when counting all sub-leves with the kin filter it is very slow
   - performance is not great (added toggle off button)

I hope you will enjoy it

2.2.0

   - [new] added counting for all sub-levels of tags (kin- filter).
   WARNING: this is very slow.
   - [new] added button in page toolbar with 3 modes. 1level count/all
   level count/turn off
   - [new] added count of links or tag/links (and tag). toggle by pressing
   the number (3 views)
   - [new] added support for list-links, list-links-draggable and
   list-tag-draggable
   - [new] moved code to a macro that is used in the plugin, and can be
used with the syntax <> (not used in tocp)
   - [fix] removed counting of 0 zero in the locator and tocp plugins
   - [fix] removed the double "tags" tab form the sidebar.
   $:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/more/tag_org still had sidebar tag.

2.1.0

   - [fix] removed
   $:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link_org
from templates in the locator plugin (removed tag)
   - [documentation] clarity: change caption of
$:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link_count
   to Link (with counter)
   - [documentation] clarity: added description field to tiddlers,
   describing there function
   - [documentation] added reference to the locator plugin settings
   - [new] added count for P Marios tocP
    plugin. It only works when
the parent field is used but not with a custom field (I don't know how
   to do this).

Thank you. I am also trying to understand it on a high level.
as you say, when reveal widget evaluates to False it is not run, I think
there are more benefit to this, that would get lost in in a filter. thanks
for clarifying.

does it make sense to have a filter like below? will the* all[tiddlers]* do
anything?

[all[tiddlers]all[current]tagging[]]

thank very much you for your answer. This was what I suspected.

new questions.

1
is it possible to combine reveal and a filter? and will this be faster?

something like:

<$list filter="[speceficTiddler!!field[yes]has[field]]">

and 2
is there an advantage in
[all[tiddlers]tag[something]has[field]]

vs
[tag[something]has[field]]

is it an index thing?

[tw5] [Help] performance of plugin, filters

2020-03-10 Thread HC Haase
When I am building my new plugin, at some point things get really slow.

Can you help me understand where I Can optimize please? I am lacking some
basic understanding.

1. question
if I hide something (a filter) with the *reveal widget*, will it be
bypassed or will it still run the filter but not show it? or is there a
better way (for speed) to toggle between things?

2.question
is there any advantage in combining filters vs. nesting them?

example:

reveal if field[x]
  list filter tag[y] limit[1]
   stuff to show

  /list filter
/reveal

vs

list filter field[x]tag[y] limit[1]
  stuff to show
/list

thanks

You may.. I always find it interesting how diverse TW is used.

Normally I don't use TW on my phone often, because I work in front of a pc.
BUT

 * I have begun /(try to make the habit) to use TW as a personal journal.
It is more convenient to sit in the couch with my phone at the end of the
day, than pull out the laptop.
* I like to travel light, but my thinking (also through my second brain TW)
is seldom light. So I want my notes and I dont want to be hindered by
interface.
** not long ago I moved to another country for 4 months and it was not
practical to bring my laptop. I was very much dependent on my phone.

so what do I do... the same stuff, but lighter. my texts are shorter.
making notes from read material, connect them to other notes, write
thoughts and connect or contradict other thoughts in the notes. save
inspiring quotes, links or books to read.

[tw5] [advice] for encryption and mobile performance

2020-03-06 Thread HC Haase
Sharing my discovery

In retrospect, it is obvious, but it didn't occur to me for a long time.

when I use TW on mobile it is always encrypted because the risk of loss or
other compromising is higher than my pc, so unencrypted wiki is not an
option IMO. This led to the wiki being very slow on save and therefore hard
to use.

The obvious solution.

If you use an encrypted wiki on mobile:

Turn off automatic saving, and save manually when you need to.

This is simple, but it made my wiki workable again on mobile, so a big
impact.

Re: [tw5] Re: Andy Matuschak's new notetaking app

2020-03-05 Thread HC Haase
Jeremy said that mutch was prepared for mobile in 2011.

This gave me a thought. With the recent talk of a possible name change and the
advantag of that being in connection with a major version change, like the one
from TWC to TW5. Could the "version jump" be to a version optimized for mobile?

https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/tiddlywiki/EShXN5LvQbA

IMO TW is lacking a lot on mobile but there are many solutions on the mobile
front.

* You say that much is prepared under the hood to work with mobile devices.
* You work on top bar plugin optimised for mobile
* Jds mobile layout (this nake a big difference and that's what i use)
* Jds marerial theme with the floating FAB button also have some great mobile
features
* The ideas in this thread of a better mobile theme
* and more

So if these things could be mashed up to make a more coherent mobile optimised
tw version I think this could be be enough of a change to "count" as a new
version (but not necessarily breaking backwards compatability with TW5).

I dont have the knowledge to say, but I think the work for this would be alot
less than the work for the previous shift ftom TWC to TW5. And this could be
enough to be perceived / feel like a new version, not to mention really useful
in a world where mobile touch interfaces is more and more dominant.

What do you think?

This would be really great. Merging and handling of different versions is a
place where TW is lacking. I often have the fear that my wiki is out of
sync with the mobile version and I will override something.

It would also make it a lot simpler to manage separate wikis that share

projects that spring to my mind, where this could have a impact:

This is to make the toggle work so you have the option to turn the counting
off. It stores the original code from your plugin.

This is to make it possible to toggel the numbers on/off for different
toc's. So one could turn it off in locator and on in clasic toc, or vice
versa.

Detaild description.
The checkbox for "Enable counting of sub-tiddlers in Locator TOC" change
the text field of "$:/plugins/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link" of your
plugin. It takes the text of
"$:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link_count"
where I have included the counting. When un-checking the field, the text in
"$:/plugins/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link" is replaced with the
original text that I store in the
"$:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link_org"
tiddler
("$:/plugins/HCHaase/toc_counting/bimlas/locator/field-templates/link_count"
has ben overriddene).

Yes that is why i use tags and links as i do. Tags are good for multi-level toc
(as alo noted by @tiddlytweeter), but would it not be possible to use links for
that also? Isn't that what you are doing David with blink?

If not. Are you maybe no so interested in multi-level toc?

>As Mark noted, long tags are terrible.

Why? Many of my tags have space in them, and some are sentences long but i dont
see the problem with that. I just seach for them and select. A d why would a
long link be better?

And I hope my poor spelling isn't a threat to the discussion in this thread :)

2020-02-13 Thread HC Haase
Hi Bimlas
You have pushed your plugin in several threats and I finally got around to
look at it again. This is really great.

I am not sure why, but I still find it a little cryptic and I had to invest
some time to understand it. But I think it is a really powerful tool.
The video helps a lot. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

I think this is a big improvement from the last version. Great work. I like:

   - The filter options. The old showing of tags took up a lot of space and
the new feature of sorting by any field you want, powerful!
   - context setting/show links instead of tag - great way to see more
   connections
   - context settings/show fields/transclusion etc. this is also nice to
have the control in one place, but hard to use with a narrow sidebar (like
   in the demopage)

problems

   - colors. if you use a bit darker themes the text is hard to read some
palces ( see screenshot). if you (and every plugin) could choose colors
that follows the theme (like primary, links etc) instad of hardcoding the
   colors, it would be great.
   - maybe I did something wrong but I get a limitd search result in
   locator. how come (see screenshot)?
   - context settings/show fields/transclusion etc. is not that usefull if
you have a narrow sidebar. maybe you could make a button to pup out the
view in a tiddler in the story river or something
   - you write you can use it to "*Create mindmaps". *That sound exiting
but I dont realy understand how. could you maybe give sime examples?

screenshot. see text and the limited search result

same search in normal search

This is actually a quite good idea with a mix of both approaches. Though I

no I have not had this problem.

Maybe this is feature creep. but I remembered bimlas had some solution
where he added a line to the viewtemplate with a list of (selcedted) often
used tags. Maybe instead of just showing the alfabetically first rags on
the first click, we could only show a list of "selected" tags. when you
start to type or press the tag drop down you could get the normal list. -
just a thought.

[tw5] [meta] discussion of tags vs links / relations in TW.

2020-02-11 Thread HC Haase

This is inspired from my threat on tag picker slowdown
 and Dave's
threat on bi-directional linking
.

>From these discussions on the TW tech and user behaviour with relations, I
think it could be useful to have a more fundamental discussion about
relations (tags and links).

Different folks different strokes, is a good thing to remember when talking
TW. I will do my best to remember that not all, do things the same way as
I. But sometime I might forget.

I will approach this from my own point of view. This is not to say that
this is the right way to do referencing, but is an attempt to get some
clarity by starting at one point.

In terms of relations between tiddlers we have

   1. tags: can be hierarchies as in the TOC, and more network oriented. It
   gives us categories
   2. links: is a stronger relation that tags, it gives us a direct
   connection to another tiddler.
   3. backlinks: are also links, but not as intentional as normal links,
thus these could bring some emergence and show connection you forgot.
   4. list
   5. listed
   6. searches (and bimlas forward linking

   thing)

I don't see list and listed as too relevant right now, so I will leave them
out for now.

The way I see it tags and links are different. Links are more direct and
intentional - a strong relation if you will. Tags are a broader categories
(and/or hierarchical). This also means that tags become my primary
mechanism for order and links get a more ad hoc use. I had the feeling that
this is the way tags and links were designed/thought to be used (but I
could be wrong).

So in summery

   - tags
  - hierarchy
  - category/keyword
  - primary sorter
  - many out of the box features (toc macro, tagging filter, colour
  coding, drop-down picker)
  - don't pollute the text space
  - links
  - stronger link
  - more ad hoc
  - secondary sorter
  - not (out of the box) optimal for hierarchies
  - may pollute the text space

Some people rely more on links instead of tags and some more on fields
(other than tag). This puzzled me a bit. But if you make some lists that
show nested list of links, to show hierarchy, you could use links for the
same as tags (e.g. Dave's blink edition
).

SO maybe there are no real difference between tags and links? Can they be
used interchangeable? and if so why not only have one method?

You link people;

   - is there an advantage/disadvantage to using links for hierarchy?
   - And how do you use links? do you have a "see also" section with
   keyword links?
   - do you distinguish between "a link to another tiddler" and "child of
   tiddler link"?

Tags have many advantages that links do not have (out of the box) (toc
macro, tagging filter, colour coding, drop-down picker). but if we strip
them of these fancy cloths, are they any different than links?

Maybe I am rambling now.. I properly managed to confuse myself. I look
forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

As I imaging it, I don't think so. As soon as you begin to type, the tag
list would reflect that (like it do now) and you would find the tag. And as
it is now, when the list of tags run of the page of a pc screen, I don't
think it gives more clarity than a limited list. (but of course I can't

I agree that tags are quick ad hoc categorising, but I think tags is also
"more" (wiki structure). I also agree that fields work better in these
category/value scenarios.

Here is the problem again (not with you but with the tech). You and others
avoid using the tags because the tags fail at their job. Should we not fix
the tag mechanism instead of adapting our behaviour?

you want to make subsets of tags and @P Marios gentag makes subset of
tagfields. You say that "more often that not we actually use tags as
keyword list,... or primary categories " But why only one at a time? In my
view this is exactly the power of tags. I want my wiki to grow buttn-up. I
dont want to make a distinction betwene keyword and category before the
difference present itself. Therefore I want the tags to simultaniusly be
keywords, categories and search terms. I need to go with the flow (maybe I
should start a new threat to go deeper in this).

I think the problem with using special fields or an extra special tag-field
is that you don't have one place to look for something. Fields are great
for custom things, but tags are better. I think tags has some big
advantages "out of the box":

   - automatic toc
   - drop down picker (when it works ;))
   - colouring
   - consistency across different wikis

Let us take advantages of that instead of avoiding tags. Make tags great
again.

I strongly agree that this should be in the controlpanel. when I think of
it, why hide any features at all? At the least, the hidden features could
be put in a "advanced settings" tab or something similar, if we want to
warn people before messing with them.

I find it quite fast and intuitive to just type 3 spaces. If we want to
make a bit nicer option, we could add a button to expand the list, to the
drop-down text (dont know the correct word for this) :

So instad of
"Search text too short"
It colud be
"Search text too short (expand list)"

But I still like the first proposition better, as I dont see the point of
showing more than 10 to 20 hits as more is just noise IMO.

[tw5] Re: [plugin] TOC generic - shows toc, backlinks, list and listed up front

2020-02-07 Thread HC Haase
*Announcement*: TOC Generic
*Date*: 2020/02/07
*Release*: 1.2.9

Downlaod/demo:
https://hchaase.github.io/HC-Plugins/#TOC-Generic%20Introduction

As @Damon Pritchett requested, you can set the default show/hide for the
different lists and changing list visibility show/hide will not trigger
"red save wiki button".

Sorry for the Manny small updates. I am learning as I go here. In the
process I think I have learned a lot about how to do wiki. But now I think
the updates will slow down, there is not much more to change.

2020/02/06 - v. 1.2.9

   - [New] changing list visibility show/hide will not trigger "red save
wiki button". The visibility state is now stored in state (json) tiddlers
that do not make the wiki dirty, but will be saved on wiki save.

2020/02/04 - v. 1.2.8

   - [Fix] bug that reversed toggles

2020/02/04 - v. 1.2.7

   - [New] Set default show/hide status of all lists. Note the default is
overridden when status is changed in individual tiddler (by design).
   - [New] delete individual tiddler show/hide setting and set default
   instead
   - [Fix] tiddlers with colon: in title can now toggle the view of lists

2020/01/31 - v. 1.2.5

   - [New] new default hide/show icon is set to text and use the arrows
used in the normal TOC to keep it consistent with TW (can be changed by
   user)
   - [New] big one: all "sub" headings (tags, backlinks, list and listed)
can be folded/hidden by clicking on them
   - [New] the reveal status for the general hide/show and for the
sub-lists are tiddler specific and remembered (stored in a data tiddler)
   - [New] position in viewtemplate is set in the plugin viewtemplate by a
   list-after field.

2020/01/27

   - [Fix] the hide button no longer appear on tiddlers with nothing to
   show.
   - [New] option to change icon/text of buttons in the readme.

[tw5] tag dropdown slowdown - solution/discussion

2020-02-07 Thread HC Haase

*TLDR:*
*Problem:* the tag dropdown slows down when you use to many tags
*Proposal:* 1. only show e.g. first 10 hits and cycle through pages or 2.
require min. 3 characters before showing results (like the search)

*Problem*
I see it mentioned more and more here on the forum, and I am beginning to
experience it in my own wiki. When the tag space gets big, the dropdown
tag-picker slows down a lot (in edit and in view mode). It is especially a
problem on mobile/android where it can make the hole wiki unresponsive for
a long time, but it also happens on my desktop now.

If you use the journal button hand have a journal tag, it quickly becomes
impossible to press that tag pill

I am also wondering what is the point of the tag pick drop-down? For me, it
is to quickly choose a tag. But if I get 50 tag suggestion, that will not
help me find what I am looking for. So I type instead to limit the relevant
suggestions. So why have all tags shown in the tag-picker to begin with? It
would make more sense to only see a limited number of hits.

Some might say that one should avoid to many tags to solve this. But that
is not a solution IMO. Tags are what makes wiki'ng great, and they are
visible unlike custom fields. In TW tags are both network/categories and
hierarchy. Therefore, we need a lot of tags (the strength becomes the
weakness).

*Proposal*
I see two possible solutions to this. The first I think would be the best.

1.
Limit the tag-picker to the first 10 hits and have button to cycle to next
10 (maybe have a setting where you can change the number of hits from 10 to
whatever)

2.
In edit mode, require 3 character in the input before showing results (like
for search)

*Discussion*
I like the first solution best because this will show you tag suggestions
whit out any input and it* solves the problem for both edit and view mode*
tag-picker.

I also think that whatever solution for this, should be a part of the core.
As the problem with too many tags is a fundamental scaling problem that can
hit everyone.

What do you think?
Do you have a better idea for a solution?

[tw5] Re: Making it easier to share demos/snippets in Google Groups

2020-02-05 Thread HC Haase
This looks interesting. But beyond my skills

It would be very nice to have an easier way of sharing. The step of making
a demo wiki sometimes make me postpone the sharing of a working solution.
And the absence of a demo make me postpone testing others.

And it also looks useful for general sharing tiddlers with the outsiders.

This reminds me of a threat on a "share with a link thing" itty.bitty
. Is what
you are doing here along the same lines or is it something different?

as a geographer, the porblem of routplanning has crossed my path. The
calssical way of finding an optimal route is to make a network of nodes and

For my problem I followd Mohammads advice and just used a json tiddler.
workd perfectly.

"data tiddlers won't be worked on" does that mean that dictionary tiddlers
should be avoided?? as I understand it, the json can do the same as the
dictionary and more, so I don't see the need for the dictionary type. But
then again I dont know much about the issue.

I personally don't like to use the sidebar tabs too much as I think it take
up too much space. But I have to give it to you. By using the sidebar you
solved the problem very simple and effective.

yikse.. I mismatched the two widgets (too little coffee) sorry for the

I do use the *reveal *widget but with "stateTitel" and "stateIndex" (see
below). Is there a advantage by using "default" instead?

<$reveal type="match" stateTitle="$:/plugins/HCHaase/TOCgeneric/state"

Yes. That is good. My plugin however store the status in a data tiddler so
the open/closed status is remembered for each individual tiddler.

e.g. you can open the toc for your overview tiddlers but close it for
others where you don't want to see it when you open them.

But had I known this plugin before, I would have used that instead.

I have had a look at the detail widget. This is a plugin and not part of
the core tw. actually there is a detail widget from Thomas and from
Mohammad in Shiraz.
If I had known about this plugin, it could have saved me a lot of time.

It works good with the reveal widget, however with thet solution I made,
the open/closed status of the lists are remembered for each individual
tiddler. That is not possible with the rveal widget.

[tw5] [data tiddlers] dealing with ":" (from <>)

2020-02-03 Thread HC Haase
Hey all

In my new plugin TOC generic
, ended up
storing tiddler title and value (show/hide) in a dictionary tidder. This is
done with a button action-set-field widget that use <>.

*Problem*
data tiddlers use a colon ":" between name (tiddler title) and value

If a tiddler title have ":" in the title when appended to the data tiddler,
the colon will be interpreted as the name/value separator and that do not
work.

Example:

tiddler titled New Tiddler : with a colon:

will append to the dictionary tiddler like this

New Tiddler : with a colon:: show

*question*
Is there a way to escape the colon or a way to append the title to a
dictionary tiddler that do not interpret the colon?

Thanks Bimlas. In the mean time i have solved it with a data tiddler. see
new update

@Damon Pritchett

>I love your plugin. I think it's going to be very useful.

thanks

>I have a couple of questions. I noticed that when I close the lists at the
bottom, the TW actually gets modified and the save button in the sidebar
turns red. Might there be a way to not have this happen?

I am also wondering how to avoid that

>Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to have a configuration
setting such that the lists could either default closed or open.

I guess so, but with the new update, the status is remembered sperately for
every tiddler. Do that maybe sovle your issue?

>I answered my own question and took the liberty of modifying the
ViewTemplate to use the details widget instead of a reveal button. It will
not open and close without modifying the TW. I've included the modified
version.

be my guest. Hmm I don know the details widget. I will look into your mod
soon. however take a look at the new release, where some sub headings can
be colapsed, alot is updated.

>I was also able to position it exactly where I wanted to versus my other
ViewTemplates and the comments by using the ViewTemplate tag pill to
reorder things.

Greate. Note, that the plugin now have a list-after field that position it
after the text field. I dont know if this or the viewtemplate list wil take
precedence.

>I also thing I know how to make it such that only certain tiddlers will be
affected. I haven't tried this, but I've done that with other ViewTemplates.

this is fixed now with data tiddlers

[tw5] Re: [plugin] TOC generic - shows toc, backlinks, list and listed up front

2020-01-31 Thread HC Haase
*Announcement*: TOC Generic
*Date*: 2020/01/31
*Release*: 1.2.0

I have made some major improvements and it is a lot nicer now I think. Have
a look

2020/01/31

   - [New] new default hide/show icon is set to text and *use the arrows
used in the normal TOC* to keep it consistent with TW (can be changed by

Road map

At some point I want to

   - Add an exclude-filter (e.g. exclude advanced search)
   - Add set start of toc like Tonys example (
   https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/TiddlyWiki/wijV7wNnwpQ)
   - incorporate Daves BiLink

   - [DONE] Make the show/hide option tiddler specific (maybe) ??? Does
anyone have an idea of the best way to do this? If I do it with a field in
each tiddler, the modify-date will constantly change and that's not good.
