Ms. Pam,

That is so true. I forget so many important things and it is not me...it is
because of the medications that I take. I hate it.

Prayers work,

The memory thing will get better, but you need to be doing things that help,
i.e.
crossword puzzles, suduko(sp?), etc.after saying that, I'll also say
that things
get better, slowly but surely. Keep a positive attitude and laugh alot!! I
was 57
when tm came to live with me 12½ years ago...I went from paralyzed at
the t8
to one of the walking wounded. It takes lots of work, but with a positive
attitude
and laughter, you can make life better!! It helps that my hubby is upbeat
and
there for me (not the way he plannrd his retirement years), and a natural
clown.,,
we've laughed at many of my misadventures thru this new way of life...I've
always
thought that the idea if we don't laugh at ourselves, we'll be crying fit
into my
plan of attack.

Thanks, Kim, for sharing this. I was so touched by the words that I
forwarded it to my family and friends. Maybe they can understand a little bit
better what TMers go thru. TM hit me on May 4, 2008. With the meds I'm on
the
time passage thing seems even more rapid than pre-TM. The memory issues are
much worse now as are the physical issues. I feel like I'm 84 years instead
of 54 years! I know that there are folks out there who are worse off than I
am. It's hard not to feel sorry for yourself when you're in this condition.
I'm sure everyone knows about that. Anyway thanks again for sharing.

Darn I missed it. There was a program on Discovery Health several months
ago ( I think it was called Mystery Diagnosis) that featured a women who
could not get out of bed. After many doctors and tests , they said it was
TM, but this woman sometime later had Devics.

[TMIC] memory, cognitive function, helps

2008-12-03 Thread Sharon M
I have memory loss along with cognitive dysfunction.  It is better since I am
currently able to be on much lower doses of my meds.  (I am not anti-meds and
will go back up when I must)

The suggestion on group about doing crossword puzzles, etc. is excellent.  My
neuro told me that years ago.  It's good to keep those brain cells working!

I also have a really bad time with MS fatigue.  My neuro has given me Ritalin
to help with that fatigue and it helps me focus mentally.

love you all

[TMIC] Adjustable Ankle Stabilizer for drop foot

2008-12-03 Thread Todd Tarno
I saw a friend that had a light brake in his ankle wearing a adjustable ankle
stabilizer that he got from Wal-Mart for about $12.

I got one, it can be warn on the left or right ankle.
It has really helped with my drop foot around the house.
I want to be able to where all night long ( I started at 4 pm ), but my foot
burned so bad that at 1 am, I had to take it off.

There is a smaller one that might be better with shoes for $8.

Has anyone else tried this if so, how did it work for you?

Hope everyone is having a BETTER day,

Hi, Randy,

I've been taking Lyrica and Lexapro for quite awhile but just changed over to
Cymbalta from the Lexapro and added Tramadol for pain and I can't tell you how
much I've improved! I experimented with the timing on taking the Tramadol and
only take two a day. You can take 1-2 up to 4 times a day (800mg total) and
I'm only taking 1 in the AM and 1 at noon. The Cymbalta is an antidepressant
but also seems to help with pain so that is why we changed over to that from
the Lexapro.

Gosh, I sure wish it could help someone else...

Randy,

Like Jeanne, I take Cymbalta and tramadol which does seem to help the pain.  I
have yet to find anything to completely wipe out the pain only things that make
it tolliable.  I also wear a TENS machine on my back.  I seem to have the
worst pain during the cold, too hot, and humidity above 70% - the barometric
pressure changes really do me in.

I was fitted with a "custom made" AFO in 04 at the rehab hospital for drop foot... really helped but problem is I can't take anything (no socks, shoes, blankets) ect on my feet (yes winter is a real buggar let me tell you)
but so the AFO does help alot if you have insurance they will pay for it.

Darn I missed it. There was a program on Discovery Health several months ago (
I think it was called Mystery Diagnosis) that featured a women who could not
get out of bed. After many doctors and tests , they said it was TM, but this
woman sometime later had Devics.

I have memory loss along with cognitive dysfunction. It is better since I am
currently able to be on much lower doses of my meds. (I am not anti-meds and
will go back up when I must)The suggestion on group about doing crossword
puzzles, etc. is excellent. My neuro told me that years ago. It's good to
keep those brain cells working!I also have a really bad time with MS fatigue.
My neuro has given me Ritalin to help with that fatigue and it helps me focus

I also wear an AFO boot (s) and they make it so much more comfortable. I
take them off at night for sleeping, but wear them most of the day, especially
when I am sitting up in bed.

Some are meant to walk in and some are not, so you ought to see a specialist
to get fitted and to find out which are best for you.

I was fitted with a custom made AFO in 04 at the rehab hospital for drop
foot... really helped but problem is I can't take anything (no socks, shoes,
blankets) ect on my feet (yes winter is a real buggar let me tell you)
but so the AFO does help alot if you have insurance they will pay for it.

I saw a friend that had a light brake in his ankle wearing a adjustable
ankle stabilizer that he got from Wal-Mart for about $12.

I got one, it can be warn on the left or right ankle.
It has really helped with my drop foot around the house.
I want to be able to where all night long ( I started at 4 pm ), but my
foot burned so bad that at 1 am, I had to take it off.

There is a smaller one that might be better with shoes for $8.

Has anyone else tried this if so, how did it work for you?

Hope everyone is having a BETTER day,
Todd in CC, TX

[TMIC] Splint

2008-12-03 Thread Janet Dunn

Hello all.

I wear a Dictus Splint. It is a cuff that fits around my ankle, fastened
by Velcro straps. It has a D ring and an elastic. The elastic hooks on
two hooks that are inserted into the lace holes on my shoes. It is great.
I sure notice when I don't wear it. It makes a huge difference to foot drop.

Are you taking Tramadol and Cymbalta?
Jude

I take both in the AM along with the Lyrica 75mg. plus one Tramadol at noon.
Then at night before I go to bed I take another Lyrica, Klonazepam 1mg (for
Restless Leg Syndrome), Toprol for my heart and a baby aspirin. I can take
more Tramadol if I need to but I won't unless it's really necessary.

How are you doing, dear one? Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers..J

Jeanne, when I was the hospital I had a band around my waist like a steel band.
After some time out of the hospital and for
many years it has been a band of pain. No medication relieved it. It was
especially bad when i laid on my back.

It is pretty horrible, isn't it, Ken? This is the first real relief I've
gotten from it since the onset. Just don't give up...we can't...j

  Hi, Jeanne,

I am currently on 300 mg a day of Lyrica. I find that I am very stiff
with pain late night and early morning, especially when turning in bed. I
think I may ask my neur. about Tramadol to add and see if that helps. Thanks
for the information.

Hi, Valerie! The Lyrica and Tramadol combination along with the Cymbalta has
enabled me to do more than I have for 3 1/2 years. I can do my housework and
not even think about the pain. There is still some stiffness and coldness but
I don't feel the acid/hot/cold/excruciating 24/7 pain as I did before. Now,
today, I missed the noon Tramadol and sure enough, the pain came through loud
and clear so it definitely does help! I sure do hope and pray it works for
you!!

Hi Jeanne,

Awesome that you are having such relief from all the fun pain. I tried Lyrica
- it did nothing for me - again, we are all different, but I am going to ask my
doctor about the Tramadol. Yep, it would be worth adding yet another drug to
my current cocktail if it helped!

Hi, Linda! I honestly think it is just the combination. I don't find that it
makes me 'rummy' or 'foggy brained' (ha! more than normal, that is!). I sure
do wish it could work for you all, I truly do..j
