Gather vs Scatter

IT'S
WHAT YOU
SCATTER

I was at the corner grocery store buying
some early potatoes... I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and
feature, ragged but clean, hungrily apprising a basket of freshly
picked green peas.

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn
to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas
and new potatoes.

Pondering the peas, I couldn't help
overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner)
and the ragged boy next to me.

'Hello Barry, how are you
today?'

'H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them
peas. They sure look good'

'They are good, Barry. How's your
Ma?'

'Fine.
Gittin' stronger alla' time.'

'Good.
Anything I can help you with?'

'No,
Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.'

'Would
you like to take some home?' asked Mr. Miller.

'No, Sir. Got
nuthin' to pay for 'em with.'

'Well, what have you to trade
me for some of those peas?'

'All I got's my prize marble
here.'

'Is that right? Let me see it', said
Miller.

'Here 'tis. She's a dandy.'

'I can see that.
Hmm mmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do
you have a red one like this at home?' the store owner asked.

'Not zackley but almost.'

'Tell you what. Take this
sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at
that red marble'. Mr. Miller told the boy.

'Sure will. Thanks
Mr. Miller.'

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby,
came over to help me.

With a smile she said, 'There are two
other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor
circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples,
tomatoes, or whatever.

When they come back with their red
marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after
all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble
or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store.'

I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man.
A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the
story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles.

Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous
one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that
Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had
died. They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my
friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at
the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased
and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us
in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the
other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts...all very
professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed
and smiling by her husband's casket.

Each of the young men
hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and
moved on to the casket. Her misty light blue eyes followed them as,
one by one; each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm
hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary
awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs.
Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from
those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's
bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand
and led me to the casket.

'Those three young men who just
left were the boys I told you about.

They just told me how
they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when
Jim could not change his mind about color or sizethey came to
pay their debt.'

'We've never had a great deal of the wealth
of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would consider
himself the richest man in Idaho ...'

With loving gentleness
she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting
underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.

The
Moral:
We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind
deeds. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the
moments that take our breath.
Today
I wish you a day of ordinary miracles ~ A fresh pot of coffee you

Layman's Ten . . . . . . . Someone has written these beautiful words.
Must read and try to understand the deep meaning of it.
They are like the ten commandments to follow in life all the time.

1. Prayer is not a spare wheel that you pull out when in trouble,
but it is a steering wheel that directs the right path throughout.

2. So why is a car's windshield so large and the rear view mirror so
small?
Because our past is not as important as our future.
So, look ahead and move on.

3. Friendship is like a book. It takes few seconds to burn, but it
takes
years to write.

4. All things in life are temporary. If it's going well, enjoy it, that
won't
last long. If it's going badly, don't worry, that won't last long either.

5.Old friends are gold! New friends are diamonds! If you get a
diamond, don't forget the gold! Because to hold a diamond, you
always need a base of gold!

6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end,
God smiles from above and says, Relax, sweetheart, it's just a
bend, not the end!

7.  When God solves your  problems, you have faith in His abilities;
when God doesn't solve your problems, He has faith in your
abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony, Can there be anything worse
than losing eye sight? He replied, Yes, losing your vision!

9.  When you pray for others, God  listens to you and blesses them;
sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that
someone has prayed for you.

10. Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles, it takes
away today's peace.

If you really enjoy this, please pass to others. It may brighten
someone's day.

A Great Way to Sell Bibles...

(If this doesn't make you laugh, just go ahead and close your casket!)

A pastor concluded that his church was getting into very serious
financial troubles. While checking the church storeroom, he discovered several
cartons of new Bibles that had never been opened and distributed.

So at his Sunday sermon, he asked for three volunteers from the
congregation who would be willing to sell the Bibles door-to-door for $10 each
to
raise the desperately needed money for the church.

Jack, Paul and Louie all raised their hands to volunteer for the task.

The minister knew that Jack and Paul earned their living as salesmen and
were likely capable of selling some Bibles. But he had serious doubts about
Louie who was a local farmer, who had always kept to himself because he
was embarrassed by his speech impediment.

Poor Louie stuttered badly. But, NOT WANTING TO discourage Louie, the
minister decided to let him try anyway.

He sent the three of them away with the back seat of their cars stacked
with Bibles. He asked them to meet with him and report the results of their
door-to-door selling efforts the following Sunday.

Anxious to find out how successful they were, the minister immediately
asked Jack, Well, Jack, how did you make out selling our Bibles last week?

Proudly handing the reverend an envelope, Jack replied, Using my sales
prowess, I was able to sell 20 Bibles, and here's the $200 I collected on
behalf of the church.

Fine job, Jack! The minister said, vigorously shaking his hand...You
are indeed a fine salesman and the church is indebted to you..

Turning to Paul, And Paul, how many Bibles did you sell for the church
last week?

Paul, smiling and sticking out his chest, confidently replied, 'I am a
professional salesman. I sold 28 Bibles on behalf of the church, and here's
$280 I collected.'

The minister responded, That's absolutely splendid, Paul. You are truly a
professional salesman and the church is indebted to you.

Apprehensively, the minister turned to Louie and said, And Louie, did you
manage to sell any Bibles last week? Louie silently offered the minister
a large envelope. The minister opened it and counted the contents. What is
this? the minister exclaimed. Louie, there's $3,200 in here! Are you
suggesting that you sold 320 Bibles for the church, door-to-door, in just one
week?

Louie just nodded.

That's impossible! both Jack and Paul said in unison. We are
professional salesmen, yet you claim to have sold 10 times as many Bibles as
we
could.

Yes, this does seem unlikely, the minister agreed. I think you'd better
explain how you managed to accomplish this, Louie.

Louie shrugged.. I-I-I re-re-really do-do-don't kn-kn-know f-f-f-for
sh-sh-sh-sure, he stammered.

Impatiently, Peter interrupted. For crying out loud, Louie, just tell us
what you said to them when they answered the door!

A-a-a-all I-I-I s-s-said wa-wa-was, Louis replied, W-w-w-w-would

I have a prayer request. There's a lady I've known forever. She's very
sick. On top of that, she's being abused by those to whom she has given
everything. Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides. Just
breaks my heart. Seems there's nothing I can do alone but maybe, if we join in
and lift her up together, we can heal her. She's well over 230 years old,
but way too young to die. Her name is 'America'... And I love her and have
always been proud of her. Please take time to say a prayer for her - even
if it is a short, simple prayer like, “Lord, please heal our land. Amen.”
Thanks!

PLEASE KEEP THIS E-MAIL GOING. Requesting 40 days of prayer for our
country, beginning September 28, 2012 and through election day! If my people,
who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my
face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14) REMEMBER
40 DAYS OF PRAYER BEFORE THE ELECTION --- IT STARTS SEPTEMBER 28, 2012!

asked me how old I was, and I told him, 62. My grandson was quiet for a
moment, and then he asked, Did you start at 1?

3. After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old
slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair.. As she heard
the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin.
Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room,
putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard
the three-year-old say with a trembling voice,
Who was THAT?

4. A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own
childhood was like: We used to skate outside on a pond I had a swing made
from a
tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked
wild raspberries in the woods. The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this
all in. At last she said, I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!

5.. My grandson was visiting one day when he asked,Grandma, do you know
how you and God are alike? I mentally polished my halo and I said, No, how
are we alike?'' You're both old, he replied.

6. A little girl was diligently pounding away on her
grandfather's word processor. She told him she was
writing a story. What's it about? he asked.
I don't know, she replied. I can't read.

7. I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I
decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was.
She
would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued.
At last, she headed for the door, saying, Grandma, I think you should try
to figure out some of these, yourself!

8. When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the
lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects.
Still, a few fireflies followed us in. Noticing them before I did, Billy
whispered, It's no use Grandpa. Now the mosquitoes are coming after us with
flashlights.

9. When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, I'm not
sure. Look in your underwear, Grandpa, he advised, mine says
I'm 4 to 6.

10. A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother,
Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today. The grandmother,
more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. That's interesting,
she said, how do you make babies? It's simple, replied the girl.
You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'.

11. Children's Logic: Give me a sentence about a
public servant, said a teacher. The small boy wrote: The fireman came
down the ladder pregnant. The teacher took the lad aside to correct him.
Don't you know what pregnant means? she asked. Sure, said the young boy
confidently. 'It means carrying a child.

12. A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day
when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck
was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties.
They use him to keep crowds back, said one child. No, said another.
He's just for good luck. A third child brought the argument to a close.
They use the dogs, she said firmly, to find the fire hydrants.

13. A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. Oh, he said, she
lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then, when
we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.

14. Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good good things,
but I don't get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

15. My Grandparents are funny, when they bend over; you hear gas leaks,
and they blame their dog.

SEND THIS TO OTHER GRANDPARENTS, ALMOST
GRANDPARENTS, OR HECK, SEND IT TO EVERYONE

IT WILL MAKE THEIR DAY!

This is by a daughter of a murdered couple in Raytown , MO ,
who had a Bible and Bookstore on 63rd street ..

When I had to testify at the murder trial of my parents a week ago, I was
asked to raise my right hand... The bailiff started out, Do you swear to
tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

I stood there and waited, but she said nothing. She said, Do you?

I was so stunned I blurted out, What happened to 'so help me God'?

She came back with, Do you? I replied yes, but I was perplexed.

Then the judge said, You can say that if you want to.

I stopped, raised my right hand, and finished with, So help me God!

I told my son and daughter that when it came time for them to testify,
they should do the same.

I don't know what can be done about it, but it's time for us to step up
and DO something.

NBC had a poll on this question.. They had the highest number of
responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the percentage
was
the same as this:

86%to keep the words, 14% against. That is a pretty 'commanding' public
response.

I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't.

Now it is your turn.. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.

Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess
about having In God We Trust on our money and having God in the Pledge
of Allegiance.

Why is America catering to this 14%?

If you agree, pass this on, if not, simply delete

In God We Trust Me? I'm Passing It On.
It seems to get worse daily.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Don't let the 14% remove God!

BOY SCOUTS

Every President since 1912 has been the honorary President of the Boy
Scouts of America. President Obama refused that honor.

Did you hear anything about the Boy Scouts 100th Anniversary? Why did the
press ignore it? Let's see, because they promote honor, integrity,
putting others first, love of country and of course, they believe in God.

Not much press coverage on this story either, the first president in 100
years to insult his finest citizens, Eagle Scouts.

John Beauregard, CEO of the South Texas Council of the Boy Scouts of
America joins us just after 7AM. David Haynie has two sons who have achieved
the rank of Eagle Scout. Dave Hiser's son is working on his Eagle Scout award
now.

This is the E-mail Linda Thacker sent to Glenn Beck and I forwarded to
Glenn's producer Adam.

Dear Mr. Beck,

On March 24, 2009 I had the honor of attending my Grandson, David
Osborne's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. I imagine you have attended one of these
wonderful ceremonies. I also feel confident that you are very knowledgeable of
what it means to have earned the status of Eagle Scout. Our entire family
is so very excited and at the Court of Honor we were all just beaming as
our wonderful young man was honored for his achievements.

After the Court was closed David's leaders pulled him aside and explained
to him that they regretted to have to explain to him, as sad as it is,
that his certificate was different from others they had presented because his
certificate did not have the signature of the President of the United
States ..

They explained that Obama does not support the Boy Scouts of America and
therefore does not sign the Eagle Certificates. To date I believe there may
be as many as 10,000 of this countries finest young men who do not have
the signature of the president of the country they have taken an oath to
respect and serve on their Eagle Certificate.

To my knowledge Congress chartered BSA in 1916 part of which the
President of the United States is the Honorary President of The Boy Scouts of
America and Obama is the first sitting president to personally REFUSE to sign
these certificates.

I believe if the country were to be educated on national television of
what the Boy Scouts of America stands for they would join those of us who
already know, and would be as outraged as we are! Also, your good friend Jim
Lago was also in attendance at this Eagle Court of Honor. I had the
privilege of speaking with him this morning on his radio talk show here in
Corpus
Christi and shared with him this same information. He was egually
alarmed. to say the least.

This information should ignite in every parent the urgency to instill the
great values held by the Boy Scouts of America in their young men for the
cause of maintaining this great nation. We must stand united.

With appreciation, Linda Thacker, grandmother to eleven of Americas
finest future citizens, David, Erikka, Adam, Ryan, Hailey, Tygh, Mana,
Gerritt,
Maya, Ezra and Lynden Osborne.

So, that's the story thus far, calls have been made, citizens are angry,
especially the parents of Eagle Scouts.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if ex-president Bush announced, he would be
willing to sign all Eagle Scout Certificates for as long as President Obama
is
in office?

We have a very small man in a very big office ... THAT DOES NOT KNOW THE
MEANING OF HONOR!

Don't you think it's time to get rid of this Un-American Muslim Traitor
and get a real American back to running our country, like what we grew up
with? Because I have had enough.

If you feel like I do, please pass this on.

I was told I had TM on April 26, 1998 although I had been feeling numb and
tingly in my leg and trunk since October. It was a slow onset. It is
almost 14 years! Don't know why my immune system attacked me, but it did. I
have had 6 episodes where I felt numb and tingly and the doctor put me back
on steroids and it went away. Personally I think stress was a big factor in
my attacks. I also have another immune disease-bulbous pempgoid. Now I am
starting to ramble. It helps to talk to someone who knows what I am talking
about and it did initially involve my brain because I could not think of
the right words or write them. That has returned slowly.

I have had TM for more than 14 years and I have gone to the best Doctors

seems to be a preoccupation with trying to find the cause that brought TM
into our lives. I certainly understand the importance of medical
researchers looking for these answers but I don't understand why it is so
important
for us to have a definitive answer as to why we were unlucky enough to
contact TM.
I am a layman when it comes to our condition. I see my neuro twice a year
basically for pain management. I do not waste my time trying to answer a
question for which there is no answer.
We were just unlucky enough to have hit the million to one lotterywhy
us..was it stress, was it a flu shot, was it just a common cold that our
immune system attacked improperly
God only knows and try as we might how are we supposed to figure out
the cause when none of our doctors have been able to?

For me the most important things that a support group like ours can supply
is the medications that have been sucessful, and or the doctors that we
have confidence in. I like all of you pray for a curebut at my age (64) I
pray it does not get worse and that new medications might make me feel
better.

Ok I am starting to ramble

All the best to all!

Hello Everybody
I have had TM and the various symptoms of since August of 2004. I have a
lesion on my spine at T4-5. There are a few issues with that, put I have
been managing. Take my meds, keep my stress down, rest, - you all know the
routine.
I was doing so well that this summer I actually began to wear “proper
ladies shoes” - including a pair of boots with a 1.5 inch heel – a sturdy
heel, but a heel none the less. I was weaning down on my meds – life was
grand to say the least.
Then in October my feet began to tingle when I dried them with a towel. I
really didn’t think too much of it until that feeling moved up the legs.
I went to visit my daughter in Victoria in the beginning of November, and
found that the right leg (the troubled one) would give out quite easily, and
I would tire out. I got back to my home town and went to see my Doc. He
sent me for an MRI. And this is the news I want to share. It is rather
a “good” news, “bad” news situation.
The MRI showed that the lesion of the cord at T4-5 were somewhat
technically different, and the cord is somewhat attenuated (squished) .
Essentially
the clinical changes, and the subtle increased signal at the t4 – 5 levels
do not present any significant change, and not of clinical significance.
However, the report continues, there is a hemangioma at t4 and t7.
Basically a growth on the spinal cord. And that of course is pushing on the
cord itself which in turn is causing all the extra pain, and the return of
all the burning that I am experiencing, as well as the numbness that is
creeping up my abdomen. Wonder when it will stop, and what kind of damage
will
it inflict before it does. Two months ago you would have had no idea that
I had a chronic illness with bothersome side effects – today you do not see
me very far away from a cane.
The joys, the joys. Anyone ever heard of this and the outcome? Anyone
going to see anybody at John Hopkins or at the Mayo? I am supposed to be
seeing a neurologist again but that could take a year.
So whether there is a clinical significance or not, there is definitely a
physical significance, and I really don’t care for it!
Thanks for “listening” - that is why I love this list, and the people on
 it.

Custom Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a
shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a
very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!
I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from
with crap in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed
since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That
prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us
again].
After I called your mother or Momma as you had her listed in your
cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and
filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas
station,
-- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 153 gallons
and was extremely grateful!
I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along
with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]
I then threw your wallet into the big pink pimp mobile that was
parked at the curb . after I broke the windshield and side window and
keyed
the entire driver's side of the car.
Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's
office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible
target.
The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess
while he traced your number etc.).
; In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I
feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your
threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these
rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the
opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've
chosen to pursue in life.. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.
Have a good day!
Thoughtfully yours, Semper Fi,
Alex

I probably don't have to ask you to forward this one..

Actually there are 4 verses and he sung the 4th verse.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: In God is our trust.
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Just saying..

Hello all,

I'm still a member here too...and read every single post that comes from
this group
and this group still has it's place in the TM Community...because for
some, this is the type of correspondence that they are comfortable with...
ButI started the TM Folks group on Facebook first of all, for those of
us that were already on Facebook and wanted to connect that wayand
second, is because the majority of the newbies that are younger and also the
ones that are now coming on board.generally look to Facebook for a
group that is pertinent to them...
I have had literally dozens of people that have had TM for a long
time...and have never reached out to any of the TM communities before...for
whatever reason.., and now they have decided to reach out and they have gone
to
Facebook to look for others...
When I made the TM Folks groupI made it so that it is a closed
group...meaning that none of the posts that are made in there, can be seen by
anyone other than the other membersso that assures us some privacy and
saves some of our dignity toobecause some of the things that are talked
about, are obviously, of a very personal nature.
Other people within Facebook can search for 'Transverse Myelitis and the
group will appear,(except for the posts) but a person has to request to be
allowed into the group, they can't just join...
The one other thing that I like about the Facebook group...is that you can
chat with others that are within the group.if there are others, that
are online and they are on your friends list...you have a private group
chat box, and you can chat away.
The one drawback as Bobberino said...is that you do get inundated with
emails...every time someone posts, an email gets sent out...
but, that can be changed, by editing your settings in the groupIt's a
very easy thing to do...
Anyway, the group is extremely active...there is always something going
on, information being put out there...or whatever...
I didn't mean this to be a sales pitch for the group...I just wanted to
explain so that folks understand a little more about the Facebook group...
As I said, this group here still has it's placeand hopefully always wi
ll...because there are those that just feel more comfortable with this type
of format...
and I'll continue to be a member for as long as this group stays around
too...

Mindy Edwards-King and Greg Sapp are my co-admins on there...

Thanks all
and keep posting here...

I too am on facebook, but to me this seems more appropriate. I get honest
and open discussions from you guys and that's something I need to have. On
facebook your privacy is not kept and sometimes things I'll say on here
aren't things that i would share naturally with family or friends that don't
understand TM and the life that I am forced to endure. Also, with my current
situation, going through a messy divorce and traveling by myself for the
last few months, I'd like to be as discreet about my life as possible. I can
only find solace here and you guys give more value to my life than the

But that may not be what is going on here, either. I don't know if TM

I like this one.

Senior version of Jesus Loves Me

92 YEAR OLD PREACHER

While watching a little TV on Sunday instead of going to church, I
watched a church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior pastors who had been
retired many years. He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the church
even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age. After a warm
welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down,
he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a
sliding gait to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind
he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and
slowly he began to speak

When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked
me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50-odd years
of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to
just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me
through all my trials.. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears
and heartbreak and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me...
The only thing that would comfort was this verse. .

Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong,
We are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so.

The old pastor stated, I always noticed that it was the adults who chose
the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during
a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see
they knew it the best.

Here for you now is a Senior version of Jesus Loves Me:

JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
Have no fear, for I am near.
(CHORUS)

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
(CHORUS)

If you think this is neat, please pass it on to your friends. If you do
not pass it on, nothing bad will happen, but you will have missed an
opportunity to reach out and touch a friend or a loved one.

God Bless Us All!!!

Hi Carol;

This is Dalton. I just got terminated today. It seems I couldn't
overcome the pull of TM, and my classroom work—that of which I was most proud—
suffered. I have three months' notice. Last year they lightened the load and
I did OK, but they said I worked too little. This year I taught three
courses, teaching every day, and the pain, fatigue and med-head just made
every day agony. It showed and the students complained. So, that's it.

Up till now they have been very nice. But they don't keep persons around
who can't pull the whole load.

Not the way I wanted to go out.

Thanks,

Dalton

comments on Jane Fonda

Please take time to at least read this the first hand accounts, than
let your heart do what you will.

She can lead her present life the way she wants and perhaps SHE can
forget the past, but we DO NOT have to stand by without comment to see that
she
is honored as a Woman of the Century.

Never Forgive A Traitor

For those of you too young to remember Hanoi Jane is a bad person and did
some terrible things during the Vietnam war. Things that can not be
forgiven

For those who served and/or died. . .

NEVER FORGIVE A TRAITOR. SHE REALLY WAS A TRAITOR!!

and now OBAMA wants to honor her..

In Memory of LT. C.Thomsen Wieland who spent 100 days at the Hanoi Hilton

IF YOU NEVER FORWARDED ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE FORWARD THIS SO THAT EVERYONE
WILL KNOW!!

She really is a traitor.

A TRAITOR IS ABOUT TO BE HONORED KEEP THIS MOVING ACROSS AMERICA

This is for all the kids born in the 70's and after who do not remember,
and
didn't have to bear the burden that our fathers, mothers and older brothers
and sisters had to bear..

Jane Fonda is being honored as one of the '100 Women of the Century.'

BARBRA WALTERS WRITES:

Unfortunately, many have forgotten and still countless others have never
known how Ms. Fonda betrayed not only the idea of our country, but specific
men who served and sacrificed during Vietnam

The first part of this is from an F-4E pilot. The pilot's name is Jerry
Driscoll, a River Rat.

In 1968, the former Commandant of the USAF Survival School was a POW in Ho
Lo Prison the ' Hanoi Hilton.'

Dragged from a stinking cesspit of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in
clean PJ's, he was ordered to describe for a visiting American 'Peace
Activist' the 'lenient and humane treatment' he'd received.

He spat at Ms. Fonda, was clubbed, and was dragged away. During the
subsequent beating, he fell forward on to the camp Commandant 's feet,
which
sent that officer berserk.

In 1978, the Air Force Colonel still suffered from double vision (which
permanently ended his flying career) from the Commandant's frenzied
application of a wooden baton.

From 1963-65, Col. Larry Carrigan was in the 47FW/DO (F-4E's). He spent 6
years in the ' Hanoi Hilton',,, the first three of which his family only
knew
he was 'missing in action'. His wife lived on faith that he was still
alive.
His group, too, got the cleaned-up, fed and clothed routine in preparation
for a 'peace delegation' visit.

They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to the world that
they were alive and still survived. Each man secreted a tiny piece of
paper,
with his Social Security Number on it , in the palm of his hand.

When paraded before Ms. Fonda and a cameraman, she walked the line,
shaking
each man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like: 'Aren't you
sorry you bombed babies?' and 'Are you grateful for the humane treatment
from your benevolent captors?' Believing this HAD to be an act, they each
palmed her their sliver of paper.

She took them all without missing a beat.. At the end of the line and once
the camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POWs, she
turned
to the officer in charge and handed him all the little pieces of paper..

Three men died from the subsequent beatings. Colonel Carrigan was almost
number four but he survived, which is the only reason we know of her
actions
that day.

I was a civilian economic development advisor in Vietnam , and was
captured
by the North Vietnamese communists in South Vietnam in 1968, and held
prisoner for over 5 years.

I spent 27 months in solitary confinement; one year in a cage in Cambodia
;
and one year in a 'black box' in Hanoi . My North Vietnamese captors
deliberately poisoned and murdered a female missionary, a nurse in a
leprosarium in Banme Thuot , South Vietnam , whom I buried in the jungle
near
the Cambodian border. At one time, I weighed only about 90 lbs. (My normal
weight is 170 lbs)

We were Jane Fonda's 'war criminals'

When Jane Fonda was in Hanoi , I was asked by the camp communist political
officer if I would be willing to meet with her..

I said yes, for I wanted to tell her about the real treatment we POWs
received... and how different it was from the treatment purported by the
North Vietnamese, and parroted by her as 'humane and lenient.'

Because of this, I spent three days on a rocky floor on my knees, with my
arms outstretched with a large steel weight placed on my hands, and beaten
with a bamboo cane.

I had the opportunity to meet with Jane Fonda soon after I was released. I
asked her if she would be

Hello Group,

This is Judy Hoops (Jude) and it has been quite a while since I have
written to the site. No reason why, except that maybe I needed a break from
all
of the talk of the “blusey” side of the disease. I try to maintain a
positive attitude, but since the death of my best TM friend, Pam Montz, I
needed a long break before I could once more become an active participant of
the group like I used to be.

For new members, I have had TM for somewhat more than eight years, can’t
recall due to memory dysfunction, and other related symptoms of TM, for one
being a difficulty in typing, where I used to be a whiz...maybe just a
matter of continuing to do it on a regular basis. I am paralyzed from T3
(breast level with the use of my arms, Thank God.) I have horrible continuous
pain from T3 on the Spinal Column to the tips of my toes. I am not able to
walk, use a wheelchair to get around and spend a lot of time in bed just
because of laziness.

We have no children and do not have a large social group and no family to
speak of. My husband wanted property so we moved out of our living area
where we had resided forever, to a small, and I mean “small” village where
we have 5 acres and a nice two story home, which we bought before I became
ill. Now, the house makes no sense whatsoever and I am able to use only a
small portion of it; my bedroom, which used to be the den, the
kitchen/dining area and living room. I have spent so long in my bedroom that
I have
forgotten what the rest of the house looks like. It’s either that or the
memory difficulties which I just two days ago began taking meds to, hopefully,
reverse the dysfunction.

OK, that’s all I can muster for my first time back. What’s going on with
all of my old friends? Let me know.
I love you all,
Jude

Anyway, I make use of the three rooms, but my husband does all of the
cooking and eats in my room with me, and he takes care of all of the remaining
household chores that I cannot do because of the constant intense pain I
experience 24/7. I have pain meds, but hate to take them because they turn
me into a “zombie” and it affects most of my “normal” human existence, as
it is. Most of you know what I mean, the rest of you will catch on the
longer you have TM and continue to read these excerpts.

AWESOME! I think this one will stick with you awhile :)

The
Cab Ride

I arrived at the address and honked the horn.
after waiting a few minutes
I walked to the
door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a
frail, elderly voice. I could hear something
being dragged across the floor.

After
a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in
her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a
print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned
on it, like somebody out of a 1940's
movie.

By her side was a small nylon
suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had
lived in it for years. All the furniture was
covered with sheets.

There were no
clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils
on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and
glassware.

'Would you carry my bag
out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase
to the cab, then returned to assist the
woman.
She took my arm and we walked
slowly toward the curb.
She kept
thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I
told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers
the way I would want my mother to be
treated.'
'Oh, you're such a good
boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave
me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive
through downtown?'

'It's not the
shortest way ma'am,' I answered
quickly..

'Oh, I don't mind,' she
said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a
hospice.

I looked in the rear-view
mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have
any family left,' she continued in a soft
voice.. 'The doctor says I don't have very
long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the
meter.

'What route would you like me
to take?' I asked.
For the next two
hours, we drove through the city. She showed me
the building where she had once worked as an
elevator operator.
We drove through the
neighborhood where she and her husband had lived
when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in
front of a furniture warehouse that had once
been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a
girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow
in front of a particular building or corner and
would sit staring into the darkness, saying
nothing.

As the first hint of sun was
creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm
tired. Let's go now'.

We drove in
silence to the address she had given me. It was
a low building, like a small convalescent home,
with a driveway that passed under a
portico.

Two orderlies came out to
the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were
solicitous and intent, watching her every move.
They must have been expecting her.

I
opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to
the door. The woman was already seated in a
wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?'
She asked, reaching into her
purse.

'Nothing,' I
said

'You have to make a living,' she
answered.

'There are other
passengers,' I responded.

Almost
without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She
held onto me tightly.

'You gave an
old woman wonderful moments of joy,' she
said.
'Thank you.'

I squeezed her
hand, then walked into the dim morning
light.. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound
of the closing of a life..

I didn't
pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove
aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that
day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had
gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient
to end his shift?
What
if I had refused to take the run, or had honked
once, then driven away?

On a quick
review, I don't think that I have done anything
more important in my life.

We're
conditioned to think that our lives revolve
around great moments.

But great
moments often catch us unaware-beautifully
wrapped in what others may consider a small
one.

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY
WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID ~BUT~THEY WILL
ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM
FEEL.

You won't get any big surprise
in 10 days if you send this to ten people. But,
you might help make the world a little kinder
and more compassionate by sending.
it on and
reminding us that often it is the random acts of
kindness that most benefit all of
us.

Life
may not be the party we hoped for, but while we
are here we might as well dance.

10-06-04, today is the 6^th anniversary TM (Transverse
Myelits) came into my life. I live in Atlanta and was on a
business trip to Dallas . I would have never thought that
waking up; putting my feet on the ground one Wednesday morning
would have changed my life so much. I would like to say is
thank you to my husband Brian, my rock that keeps me grounded.
I could not have made it thru this without him by my side and
support. To God for bringing Brian into my life 24 years ago,
and to friends and family and my extended TM family that have
stuck by me regardless of what this spinal cord disease has
 thrown at me.

There are days that it seems like it’s been forever and I can
not remember walking, running, riding a bike, ect and days
that it seems like I just woke up and realized life as I knew
it would never be the same. I still have days I mourn for the
loss of the life style I had but at the same time blessed at
how much appreciation for life has been given me. I know I am
blessed that this disease did leave me one good leg that I can
use a walker for short distances around the house, but need a
wheel chair for distance/public use. By reading so many TM
stories on this site I do not feel as alone with the pain,
frustration, and just plain old bad days as I read other
stories and puts my issues back in perspective.

Thanks again to my TM family for always being there and
sometimes that extra kick in the rear when the pity party starts!

So a journey in life began, but the adventure continues

 Love and bless you all

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8%
sales tax on it? That’s $3,800 on a $100,000 home etc. When did this
happen? It’s in the healthcare bill. Just thought you should know.

REAL ESTATE SALES TAX

No, this is change you can believe in?

Under the new health care bill - did you know that all real estate
transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax? The bulk of these new
taxes
don't kick in until 2013 (presumably after obama’s re-election). You can
thank Nancy, Harry and Barack and your local Democrat Congressman for this
one. If you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This
bill is set to screw the retiring generation who often downsize their
homes. Is this Hope Change great or what? Does this stuff makes your
November and 2012 votes more important?

Oh, you weren't aware this was in the obamacare bill? Guess what, you
aren't alone. There are more than a few members of Congress that aren't aware
of it either (result of clandestine midnight voting for huge bills they've
never read). AND, there are a few other surprises lurking.

Why am I sending you this? The same reason I hope you forward this to
every single person in your address book.

People have the right to know thetruth because an election is coming in
November!

I couldn't feel them. As I lost more mobility, I came to depend more and

want to give up. I'm not but it's just tempting. Can anyone help? What should
I do, move?

Hello everyone,

Good News. I talked to Jude for a while today and am happy to report that
she was having a pretty good day. Her computer is still not up and
running so she sends her apologies for not answering emails. She said to tell
everybody hello and that she misses us.
We still need to keep Jude in our thoughts as she does have a sore on the
bottom of her foot that is not healing as well as it should be.

Hello Family and Friends,
Sorry to send this information over mass email, but it’s the fastest way
to keep everyone informed. Over the last couple of weeks, Mike has been
very disoriented, sleeping a lot and losing weight. The MRI test that he had
earlier this week indicates that the cancer has spread to the brain. We are
meeting w/the Oncologist today and hopefully get more answers and find out
what our course of treatment will be. I’ll keep you informed as soon as we
can. Keep us in your prayers….Love, The Hammond Team
