Thanks for the suggestion about the support hose.  My right foot and my stomach
swell.
What helps bloating of the stomach?  I have cut my Lyrica down to 2x
(75mg) from
3x a day, but it hasn't helped the swelling any.  My legs still burn a little,
but today I got sunburned and they are on fire now!  Lots of rest and sleep
help
me the most.  Guess I'd better go to bed now and see if I can go to sleep.
Have a wonderful day!

I think you are right about that Todd because I can feel the burning subside
when I put on my support hose. It will also cause my urine bag to fill faster
as
my legs give up the water from being squeezed by the hose. Just something I

If you're able to submerge your sunburn in a bathtub for 30 minutes,
Put 2 cups of Espon Salt into your warm bath water ,

Thanks for the suggestion about the support hose. My right foot and my
stomach swell.
What helps bloating of the stomach? I have cut my Lyrica down to 2x
(75mg) from 3x a day, but it hasn't helped the swelling any. My legs still
burn a little, but today I got sunburned and they are on fire now! Lots of
rest and sleep help me the most. Guess I'd better go to bed now and see if I
can go to sleep.

Todd that is very interesting. I also have the horrible freezing/burning in
the feet all the time, plus the pins and needles. However, I have checked
and my feet are not and do not get swollen. I have noticed that the pain is
more severe when I am just sitting and resting. When I am up and about,
there is no freezing/burning. At least it is so little, it doesn't bother
me. Also, I have noticed that if I reach down and hold my feet tight, again
no freezing/burning. But, I sure can't sit in that position for long. That
does goes to show, we all have TM, but it affects all of us in a different
way.

Hello All,
I was wondering if any of you had one or both feet that wants to turn
out.    My right foot leans to the right instead
of walking straight.    When I straighten it, it feels like I am walking
pigeon-toed.    Do any of you have something

Yes I had this same thing happen to me my right hand went into a clinch and
I couldn't get it to open so I went to the emergency room...and a doctor
there told me I was a scitzo! And wouldn't give me rehab so now I have ulnar
nerve damage...and I have been known to throw a can of Pepsi across the room
From a spasm.. I haven't had one in a while now and I can grasp things and
release ok now...I cant hold on to anything with weight my right hand will
drop it, but I can open a door with the round nobs now..and being I am right
handed I had to change the way I wrote I write just with my thumb and first
and middle fingers I also type just with the three fingers on my right and
normal on the left.

they can give you something for the pain.

OK, we've explored the different problems of TM with the feet/legs/toes.
Now, how many of you have your hands cramp up into weird positions or lock
around something or lock into a clintch and not be able to get your hands to
relax into normal positions.

When I'm eating, my hands will clintch around the silverware. There have
been times where I'm trying to cut something on my plate and BOTH hands
clintch around the silverware; the only thing I can do is try to pull the
silverware pieces out by my mouth then try to unclintch my hands with my
mouth, or sit on my hands or try yoga breathing techniques to relax. This
seems to happen if I'm tired or too hot/cold. Now when those conditions
occurs, if anything on my plate needs cutting I pick it up and eat it with
my hands. Sure cuts down on going out to eat in public.

Has anyone bought the special silverware where the handles are bigger? Did
it help?

To me, the pain from hands cramping/spasming is MUCH worse than my feet/toes
or legs, at least I have my hands to unclutch toes, or grab my feet or leg
and talk to the offending part (which seems to help).

OK, we've explored the different problems of TM with the feet/legs/toes.
Now, how many of you have your hands cramp up into weird positions or lock
around something or lock into a clintch and not be able to get your hands
to relax into normal positions.

When I'm eating, my hands will clintch around the silverware. There have
been times where I'm trying to cut something on my plate and BOTH hands
clintch around the silverware; the only thing I can do is try to pull the
silverware pieces out by my mouth then try to unclintch my hands with my
mouth,
or sit on my hands or try yoga breathing techniques to relax. This seems
to happen if I'm tired or too hot/cold. Now when those conditions occurs,
if anything on my plate needs cutting I pick it up and eat it with my
hands. Sure cuts down on going out to eat in public.

Has anyone bought the special silverware where the handles are bigger?
Did it help?

To me, the pain from hands cramping/spasming is MUCH worse than my
feet/toes or legs, at least I have my hands to unclutch toes, or grab my feet
or
leg and talk to the offending part (which seems to help).

Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly!

And never regret anything that made you smile.

Prayers and thoughts for you and yours,

Janice - My right foot (that is my weak side) had and has a tendency to turn
in. My PT told me it was because my right side was affected more by TM and
is the weak side. She recommended during exercises to strengthen that foot.
One of the exercises was to sit in a chair, raise my right foot and try
writing small words in the air with your foot. I still do the exercises
even though it has been over a year and it has helped.

Ask your doctor if tizanidine would help.

Tizanidine(brandname Zanaflex) is a drug that is used as a muscle
relaxant. It is a centrally acting α-2 adrenergic agonist. It is used
to treat the spasms, cramping, and tightness of muscles caused by
medical problems such as multiple sclerosis, spastic diplegia, back
pain, or certain other injuries to the spine or central nervous system.

I have 2 questions:

1. With hot weather coming, do any of you have a problem with all of a sudden
being really hot?  I know some

of you had a problem with the cold last winter, but does your body change in
summer and you get hit with being hot instead

of cold?    I really have a problem with heat - especially with humidity.
I get hot, then weak.   Not good.

2.  Several of you have mentioned the tight band around your body.  I am not
sure this band is in the same place for

everyone.    Also, has there been any change in the band with those of you who
have had TM for a long time?

  Hi Pam,

Did you send your ball system for getting up to the list or just me? I
wondered since I only got it once. In case you didn't, I'm attaching it to the
bottom of this for the list to see.

Also, don't worry about being embarrassed about falling when going out.
First of all, hopefully you won't hurt yourself. Then, if you do fall, which I
have, you just get the help you need.

And, I fell the first day I went back to work after having had TM for seven
months. I went to work on a part-time basis, and parked in the parking lot at
work. I proceeded to fall, smack down on the pavement, right on my bottom just
past my car or I could have gotten up on my own. Several people came over and
tried to help to pick me up, but they were trying to do it the wrong way. I
could only be helped in one certain way that worked, and my son also worked in
the same building, so I asked someone to go inside and get him. I sat on the
pavement with people coming and going for about 5 minutes waiting for him. I
caused quite a stir.

I was determined to go back to work, so I went home, composed myself for a
couple of hours and went back in to work. Stuff happens!!!

HI BARBARA., IF I FALL THANK GOODNESS I KEEP MY CELL PHONE WITH ME AT ALL

I DO NOT LIKE TO DO THAT SO I EXERCISE ON THE HUGE BIG BLUE BALL. ALOT. I
HAVE ONE IN MY DEN , KITCHEN, MY BATH ROOM ANY ROOM I AM GOING TO BE IN ALOT.
I ALSO HAVE MY GRIPPERS IN EVERY ROOM IN MY HOME. WE HAVE 4 ROOMS WE HARDLY
EVER USE. THEY DO NEED TO BE CLEANED THOUGH.
I FELL A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IT WAS IN THE DEN. I WAS NOT CLOSE TO ANY

GET THE BALL GOT UP WITH NO PROBLEM.MY KNEES DO HURT ALOT WHEN I CRAWL ALSO.
WE KEEP ONE BY THE POOL AND IN OUR ENCLOSED PATIO.
I WAS ASKED ONE DAY WHY NOT JUST PUSH THE BALL TO ANY ROOM YOU GO IN. I DID
TRY THAT BUT ITS EASIER FOR ME TO HAVE BOUGHT 4 MORE.
IT SOUNDS EXTREME BUT IT WORKS AND I DO NOT HAVE TO CALL A NEIGHBOR.
I AM VERY CAREFUL BUT WE NEVER KNOW IF OUR LEGS WILL TIRE OR WE JUST LOOSE
OUR BALANCE. I DO WHAT WORKS FOR ME AND THIS DID.SO I HAVE 5 BALLS AND I CAN

ONE BALL MIGHT WORK FOR SOME OF YOU BUT I GUESS I DO NOT LIKE TO PUSH IT
AROUND.
WHEN MY GRANDKIDS ARE HERE THEY PLAY WITH THEM
.I HAVE 4 GRANDKIDS SO NO ARGUING THEY EACH HAVE ONE TO PLAY WITH.
SO I GET MORE THAN ONE USE WITH THEM.
IF I GO OUT I JUST HOPE I DO NOT FALL I DO NOT THINK I COULD GET UP, PLUS I
WOULD BE SO EMBARASSED.MY PT TAUGHT ME TO USE IT IF I FELL. NOT TO BUY SO MANY

IT WORKED FOR ME AND YOU CAN USE IT FOR THERAPY.
HOPE THIS MIGHT HELP YOU ALL WHO COULD FALL AT HOME ALONE .I FEEL SILLY

now have a lovely big goose egg on the back of my head. OUCH! Like I
said, I'm sure glad I didn't draw blood or knock myself out. So then it was
good I had the vacuum out as I could then clean up the dirt and the dead leaves
of the plant. I was actually ready to toss the think outside I was somewhat
upset about it all. I don't feel any pain in the tailbone so am hoping that I
didn't do too much damage there. I guess I have padding there. LOL LOL

  Hugs, Barbara

HI BARBARA., IF I FALL THANK GOODNESS I KEEP MY CELL PHONE WITH ME AT ALL
TIMES. I CAN CALL A NEIGHBOR.
I WAS NOT CLOSE TO ANY
FURNITURE BUT I HAD MY GRIPPER SO I CRAWLED A LITTLE BIT USED THE GRIPPER TO
GET THE BALL GOT UP WITH NO PROBLEM.MY KNEES DO HURT ALOT WHEN I CRAWL ALSO.
I DO WHAT WORKS FOR ME AND THIS DID.SO I HAVE 5 BALLS AND I CAN
USE THEM TO EXERCISE ON IN THOSE ROOMS NOT JUST MY SMALL EXERCISE ROOM.
NOT TO BUY SO MANY
THOUGH.
IT WORKED FOR ME AND YOU CAN USE IT FOR THERAPY.
HOPE THIS MIGHT HELP YOU ALL WHO COULD FALL AT HOME ALONE .I FEEL SILLY
TELLING THIS BUT IT WORKS.WE ALL SHOULD DO WHAT WORKS FOR US. I
DO!
HOPE NONE OF US FALL SO BE
CAREFUL!!
  PAM

Re: [TMIC] Feet pain

Hi Heather,

Wow, that's the same way I get up when I fall or get down on the ground.
Interesting, and wonder how many of us use the same technique. If there is
something else that others that are able to get into this position use, can
you
please share. I am not always near something to push up on, and need to
crawl or roll to something. Often, I am badly shaken-up and don't have the
strength to push myself up as well.

When I was doing PT and OT at home my therapist showed me how I could use my
sofa cushions. By placing the cushions against the sofa to at least get
myself to sitting on top of a single cushion, and then 2 cushions, and then by
that time, you can hopefully get to the sofa which doesn't have any cushions
on it, so isn't that high. It's kind of like stairsteps. If you can reach
down and pull up at least one cushion, sit it along side of you and sit up on
that. That should put you high enough to be able to stand if you can or at
least be comfortable if somebody else is coming home soon.

or playing 'cars' with my 3 yr old grandson then I need something solid to
hold onto so I can roll onto my knees (which hurts like h--l) and put my

my case were not affected).
How did you manage to get up again?

I actually prefer to walk barefoot, though I do occasionallyget
splinters, step on hard objects, etc. Or...change shoes several times a
day because whatever I wear seems to hurt my feet after a little
while--discomfort, I don't know how to describe it, but you all know what
I mean! :-)

Yesterday I went out walking around with my sandals on, got stuck in the
mud, and while trying to pull my foot and shoe out, lost my balance and
fell right smack in the mud and water! At least I no longer try to keep
from falling, once it is obvious, since that's when I hurt myself the
most, trying to keep from falling. Other than my pride, no injuries. the
mud was very soft. Oh well.

'Can you walk around without shoes? I cannot. I do have a balance problem
but the different floorings, (rug, wood, etc. ) really bother me. and
then

if I step on something I don't know about it for awhile, then I finally
realize I've stepped on a pin or something left on the floor and then
finally the pain registers. but it takes awhile. I walked around with a
penny in my shoe. it took me a long time to feel the pain.. That sort of
scares me.
Actually, I feel like the carpet sort of 'fits' to the contours of my
feet

and helps my balance. But also, I have a small townhouse so there's
always a wall or a piece of furniture close by to grab onto. If I go
out,

I walk best in my walking shoes b/c my balance isn't that good. But I do
remember a couple months after I first got TM (5/05) when I found a piece
of glass in the callous of my foot! You're right - that's a little
scary!

2007-06-19 Thread Mbrubnitz
Most of the time I walk IN shoes. I think the support helps with the balance
and numb sensation in my feet.

On another note I just returned from Johns Hopkins where I was given my third
angiogram. Two at Temple Hospital in Phila and now the one at Johns Hopkins.
Like Temple Hospital the Interventional Radiologist found absolutely nothing
wrong from the angiogram.

I asked Dr. Greenberg about the results. He told me that I either have TM or
I had a vascular problem that healed. Either way we now have to deal with my
symptoms.

From what I understand, dealing with the symptoms only means physical
therapy. There is a medication that he sort of recommends but I will not take
it
because of the side effects.

Well, back to square one!

Sally in Hawaii, Well you really can't complain about weather in Hawaii, but
I 'm sure you have plewnty of aches and pain. Thats almost inescapable in
our case. I think it has been very informative finding out how weather plays
a role in our levels of pain. Me I take 4 10 mg lor-tabs a day and let the
big dog eat. No fear we will all have perfect legs in heaven. God Bless

I live in Hawaii where it's usually in the 80's - or in cool weather, in
the 70's (I know, spoiled, aren't I!) The only weather that bothers me is
when it's cold - like when I went to California when it was in the 50's at
night. I wore 3 pair of socks and 2 pair of sweat pants to bed. Even in
Hawaii, I often wear socks around the house in the cool weather (we don't
normally wear shoes in the house here, but leaves our shoes at the door).
