[SlimDevices: Touch] .wav playback
Hello? I keep my music uncompressed (in .wav format), so there is no meta-data tags attached to any files at all. How will SBS index and build its database in this case and will it be possible to find out where the first album ends and the other one begins? Thanks in advance. Or just a netbook I'm sorry but what is "the software from vortexbox.com" for? I've got almost the same setup - WD NAS connected to the router (this noisy pair are living in the far corner) and a notebook connected to them by air. So when I'm going to listen to my digital music I have to connect my laptop to the Amp via an external DAC = crapy sound and busy laptop. :( well I've thought the Touch with attached HDD solve this problem, but it looks like it won't due TinySC constraints. So will it be ok to install full SBS on my laptop and manage NAS located library and playback streaming to Touch via single wifi-g connection? Will it cope with the traffic? rgds, Mike. -- mdm mdm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79319 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It is a container, like APE or WMA etc, which contains: header, metadata (tags) and compressed audio frames. Any Squeez decodes this containers - uncompressed audio frames into the bitstream and: - sends bitstream via S/PDIF (coaxial or TOSLINK) outs. in this case the bitstream processed by external DAC (your setup). - processed the bitstream by its internal DAC and send analog signal out to the Amps. So I believe that when talking about better sound of Touch they are meaning the quality of its internal DAC. -- mdm mdm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79500 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It means that Touch's CPU will not work but wait for SD to do something. That is why computers have RAM and HDD. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Best external hard drive configuration for squeezebox touch with 20k+ flacs
I bought bus powered 1Tb WD Elements SE first. It turned out to be a horrible thing. It span down in 30 seconds of not being accessed and took 5 seconds to spin up again, so I sent it back to seller and replaced it with 1Tb self powered LaCie HDD Design by Neil Poulton. It looks fantastic, fast (7200 rpm) but quiet. So if you are not looking for a portable solution (LaCie is 3.5") and not going to keep it powered 24x7 (I turned it off when go to sleep) LaCie is a good choice for me. http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=11016 -- mdm mdm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80516 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

In a minute you'll have HDD formated but it will be so called GPT format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table). It supported by Win 7, Vista, XP64 but not supported by Touch. Hi juzi, thanks for reply. It looks like there is no SBS on my squeezeplug at all. I tried what you said and here you are what I got: Code: r...@squeezeplug:~# cat /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log cat: /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log: No such file or directory r...@squeezeplug:~# r...@squeezeplug:~# r...@squeezeplug:~# r...@squeezeplug:~# r...@squeezeplug:~# /etc/init.d/squeezeboxserver restart -bash: /etc/init.d/squeezeboxserver: No such file or directory r...@squeezeplug:~# that is strange because I ran "setup" script, configured SBS, installed it... it took a while and I was told that everything is ok and I can logon to SBS on IP-address:9000 Will try to install SBS manualy. "date -u" returnes the time which is an hour and a half ahead of the REAL UTC time. How can that be? [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch couldn't play tracks with a bitrate higher than 5440 kbit/s
Hello, There is an album - Wayne Shorter "Speak No Evil" [FLAC@192kHz/24bit] from HDTracks.com. Tracklist 1 Witch Hunt 8:11 [5609 kbit/s] 2 Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum 5:53 [5180 kbit/s] 3 Dance Cadaverous 6:45 [5518 kbit/s] 4 Speak No Evil 8:23 [5600 kbit/s] 5 Infant Eyes 6:54 [5444 kbit/s] 6 Wild Flower 6:07 [5409 kbit/s] and my touch could play only tracks 2 and 6 with a bitrate lower than 5440 kbit/s only. I double checked all other tracks from my 192kHz/24bit albums and they all are lower than 5440 kbit/s as well. I tried foobar2000 and it managed to play tracks 1, 3, 4 and 5 with no problem. So, could anybody confirmed whether they faced the same issues please! my fault, haven't edited my signature at the right time. I run LMS 7.7.2 on Win8 PC. foobar couldn't convert FLAC itself, it needs external command-line encoder and as I'd already found out flac_X.exe doesn't work under Windows 8 will look for win-xp pc then. mdm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97830 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
