I have set-up a new PiCorePlayer configuration with a Raspberry Pi 2,
and, as you have adviced me, without the HiFiBerry hat, and Squeezelite
Player turned off.
Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem.. I have tried to
synchronize my Touch with one of my SB Radios, resulting in much more
drop-outs on both devices...
Very strange that this problem does not happen at all on my other
PiCorePlayer (running LMS and Squeezelite with the HiFiBerry DAC) in
combination with another PiCorePlayer (without LMS, only the Squeezelite
player)...

It shouldn't be necessary.
I know it is a pain but have you tried the Pi running LMS without the
DAC+ attached to it?
My set up is fairly similar except that my Pi that runs LMS is dedicated
as a server - Squeezelite is disabled.
It's pCp 3.20 with NFS mount to QNAP. Same version of LMS as you and
same Spotty.
I have various players connected - many are synced - and no drop outs
like those that you are experiencing.
i did at one stage try a Pi with Touchscreen and USB DAC as the LMS
server and that was problematic.

Thanks for your reply.
No, I do not use the sync. feature... the audio drops are quite
consistent, it happens 9 of 10 time.
I wonder if I can increase the buffering of the stream somewhere, but I
cannot find that option in the system.
Maybe the Squeezebox Radios/Touch are slower compared with the
Raspberry/Squeezeplayer, so maybe I have to make some changes in the
Squeezeboxes (but where??).

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify help - Raspberry Pi the answer?

2017-10-04 Thread tomsat50

I also have problems with audio 'drops' of 1 to 2 seconds, most of the
time near the end of a track when playing music from my Spotify
playlists.
It only happens when I am using my SqueezeboxTouch (or one of my 2
Squeezebox Radios).
This problem does NOT happen at all when I am using one of the
PiCorePlayers.

This is my set-up:

PiCorePlayer v.3.2.2 with LMS Versie: 7.9.1 - 1505480690 and Spotty
v.1.9.4 on RPI 3 with HiFiBerry Dac+
PiCorePlayer v.3.2.2 (no LMS installed, only using the PiCorePlayer) on
RPI2 with HiFiBerry Dac+
2 x Squeezebox Radio
1 x Squeezebox Touch
All equipment connected to LAN

Can someone give me some advice how to fix this problem? For instance,
is it possible to add some extra buffering somewhere in the chain?

Hmmm... power supply came packaged with the Pi3 and is 2.5A 5V, so
should be all good. Have tried 2 different hard drives with it, one was
one that spins down when idle and the problem occurred, but wasn't
related to it having spun down, the other drive is full time spinning
and the problem is still there. I have also had the problem in last
couple of days when using the ReadyNas as the file server, a problem it
never had before. Am thinking I may go back to pCP V3.21 from 3.22 to
see if it changes anything.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify help - Raspberry Pi the answer?

2017-09-30 Thread DavidBulluss

Trying to use an external hard drive (with its own power supply) for my
music library, plugged direct into USB of Raspberry Pi3. No problem
mounting the drive, and pointing LMS at it. LMS also scans the library
and will play tracks as usual, except it will sometimes pause during a
track. If I turn on a second synced Squeeze Touch then it really starts
to have problems with regular pauses during songs and even inability to
play succeeding tracks. Is it just that the Pi3 can't cope with it?
Thoughts? Has anyone got a Pi and external drive working together
successfully? No problems at all if I point it at a network drive
library.

2017-09-16 Thread Grumpy Bob

When I shifted from running LMS on the QNAP to a Raspberry PI, I faced
the same: I used a text editor (nano) on the Pi to edit the playlists to
reflect the new path to the files. I don't have many playlists, so it
wasn't too much trouble. I daresay that a BASH script could automate the
process.

LMS was updated yesterday. Today I have removed all DenonAvpControl
folders from the pCP system and restarted. Then dropped DenonAvpControl
folder and files into /usr/local/slimserver/Cache/Plugins followed by
pCP restart (and LMS of course) and the plugin is installed correctly.

In the pCP setup, LMS always uses /usr/local/slimserver/Cache,
/usr/local/slimserver/Cache is a hard symbolic link to wherever the
cache is actually stored. (So what you describe is physically the same
location)

If you were to use the option in the pCP web pages to move the LMS cache
to a USB stick. pCP automatically changes that symlink to the new
location.

I'd echo this except I'd use Notepad ++

As it's a Linux mount the path is going to be completely different to
w:/ in fact it's the other way round eg \mount\music\artist\alnum\track
or similar. Find an example by clicking M on any track in the LMS gui

If you are moving from Windows to Linux it's quite complicated but Linux
to Linux is much easier.

You need to open each playlist in Notepad, and using "Find and replace"
change the file path to point to the music files new location.
I would practise on a copy of one playlist first if you haven't done
this before.
The playlist below was made with JRiver on a windows PC, the files were
in W:/Squeezebox Music, I just replace "W:" with the new path to music
files on a WD MyCloud.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify help - Raspberry Pi the answer?

2017-08-04 Thread DavidBulluss

Am loving pCP on the Raspberry, leaves the ReadyNAS duo V2 for dead for
speed, ease of use, etc.

One thing I would like to be able to do is still use the playlists that
I set up while using LMS on the ReadyNAS. I have about 60 playlists of
music from my own library that I created painstakingly in the dying days
of SMARTMIX. I created lists from every of my favourite seed tracks, and
have been playing them on random... almost just like the old days!
Problem is that now that LMS on pCP is pointed at the ReadyNAS library,
and also pointed at the PLAYLISTS folder on the ReadyNAS, when I select
a playlist in LMS pCP it is reported as empty. Obviously the m3u files
are pointing in the wrong direction. Do I need to place that playlist
elsewhere, or is it a lost cause?

Cheers, David

Hi, I took that comment re permissions on the playlist folder to be
regarding a different issue with SyncOptions plugin that I uninstalled
and the error message went with it, not related to the DENON plugin
problem I was having.

Michael,

I think I have finally worked out what is happening and how to install
it. I had to drop the DenonAvpControl folder and files into two
different plugin folders simultaneously -
/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/Plugins/DenonAvpControl &
/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins - I had to
create the Plugins folder in /mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/Plugins
- all it needed then was a restart of LMS, the server.log is attached as
a txt file.

All works like a dream now, and even after a full reboot of pCP it is
still intact, with both DenonAvpControl folders and files still in the
two Plugins folders. I have tried putting the DenonAvpControl folder and
files into each of the Plugin folders without putting it into the other
and restarting LMS, but in both cases it did not work... when I put it
only in /mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/Plugins/DenonAvpControl and
restart LMS the plugin appears in the active list in LMS plugins but is
unticked and reports it has failed to install, when I put it only in
/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins and restart
LMS it is deleted from the Plugins folder as you said it would. Put it
in both plugin folders and restart LMS and all is complete and working!

Michael, it may be the wrong place but it works! Since installing it
there I have restarted LMS several times, as well as a fullcPC reboot by
turning Raslberry off/on.

Screen cap of file structure and DENON files after full reboot, with
DENON in active list of LMS.

Server.log of LMS restart attached as txt file.

I edited my last post about 20 minutes ago, so you may not have seen it.

Oops...

Since posting this I have uninstalled the SyncOptions plugin as it
seemed to be causing a problem. I have also updated LMS 7.9.1 to build
1501791870. Interesting to note that the DENON plugin has now installed
without the need for the repo that Paul had set up for the DENON plugin.
Michael, did you tweak something in the latest 7.9.1 update that fixed
that?

No, I didn't.

I have the DENON plugin dropped into
/tce/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

And, as mentioned before, this is the wrong place! InstalledPlugins is
managed by the LMS plugin installer. Anything you put in there manually
will be removed again. You have to use the Cache/Plugins folder.

I am getting a couple of error messages in the server.log, none of which
mean anything to me! A recent excerpt below:

[17-08-03 16:57:12.2961]
Slim::Formats::Playlists::Base::_filehandleFromNameOrString (86) Error:
Could't open /mnt/media/Music/LMS playlists/SyncOptions-Lounge
Touch-00_04_20_23_db_49.m3u for writing.

That's a permissions issue on your playlists folder. LMS can't write to it.

[17-08-03 16:57:13.1844] Slim::Control::Request::notify (2060) Error:
Failed notify: Not a HASH reference at
/usr/local/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SyncOptions/Plugin.pm
line 628.

The SyncOptions plugin is expecting a hash reference where it doesn't
get one. Probably a follow up issue to the above failure.

But no sign of the Denon plugin. Did you try to install it within that
log snippet? If not, please enable debug logging for server.plugins and
plugin.extensions in LMS Settings/Advanced/Logging, make sure you check
the "keep settings for reboot" (or similar) on that same page, then
restart LMS. Then extract the plugin file to the Plugins folder and
restart LMS. Anything in the server.log now?

ZIP file attached, screen shot also. Note that the cache folder in
/user/local/slimserver/ is a shortcut to the cache folder in
/tce/slimserver/ so I had to create the plugin folder under
/tce/slimserver/Cache/ - all can be seen in screenshot.

post. No signs of DENON after restart. Replaced zip file with DENON
folder. After restart the DENON is listed in LMS gui under active
plugins, but is unticked with comment "plugin failed to load". Ticked
it, applied it, then LMS restart. Refresh LMS plugin screen, still
unticked and with "plugin failed to load".

On reflection and with a bit of experimentation... I realize now that
the plugins folder I had dropped the DENON folder into was
/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins, and that
was where the folder kept disappearing from upon second restart. The
plugin worked after first restart.

Am now confused about where to drop it. Have looked for
/usr/local/slimserver/Plugins but the plugins folder didn't exist, so I
created it, dropped the folder in, and it still doesn't show up in the
plugins list in LMS gui, or work. Have also tried dropping it into the
cache folder, no luck.

Ah, /usr/local/slimserver/Cache is only a symlink. But that's fine. That
should work.

You must NOT use Slim/Plugin. That's part of the distribution. On my
system the folder would be /usr/local/slimserver/Plugins - don't know
whether this is being backed up by pCP, though. Good point.

Gotcha, any specific reason that Plugins could not be in the Cache
folder as well? The easiest way to deal with this for pCP is to setup
a symlink from /slimserver/Plugins to /slimserver/Cache/Plugins Do
you see a problem with that?

Of course you could set up your own. But this shouldn't be needed. If
you have a copy of the folder (or zip file), just drop it in to the
Plugins folder (not Slim/Plugin and not InstalledPlugins). I'm doing
this all the time, in production as well as during development. This
should definitely work.

With a pCP based install, the Slim/Plugin folder is not archived. You
could of coarse manually add the plugin to the backup set. Hmmm.

This should really be in a different thread...if your problems
continue, start a new thread in the server area.

But I can confirm that it was LMS removing the Plugin..

uninstalling DenonAvpControl
  [17-07-31 20:25:23.1694] Slim::Utils::PluginDownloader::uninstall (63)
scheduling uninstall of DenonAvpControl on restart

@Michael, is there something wrong with manual install in 7.9.1?

Anyway, I pulled the latest version from google code, and dumped it on
github. Add this to your repo list

Code:

  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paul-1/DenonAvpControl/master/repo.xml

It will install fine.I can't test anything else, since I don't have

Yes, that is the one. Interestingly the download that I have been using
included one additional file, REPO.XML, so I downloaded the 1.9.2
version (which is what I had been using as far as I know) and have tried
to install it. Same outcome, the DENON plugin files and folders
disappear after the second required restart. Between the first and
second restarts the plugin can be accessed to change settings and works.

Hello again Paul,

Looking at the log I had posted previously it seems there are a lot of
lines not relating to the DNON plugin install, so I thought I should
restart pCP and then do my DENON plugin manual install. The following
log commences during a reboot of pCP (and LMS), and ends with my 2nd
manual LMS restart (third in log) when requested by LMS due to the new
plugin. I have allowed 5 minutes approx between LMS restarts. Between my
2 restarts the plugin was working, although not appearing in the LMS
plugin list. I turned a SBT on and the plugin turned on the amp. I
played a song, and adjusted the volume via SBT and the amp responded. I
then turned off SBT and the amp remotely turned off... plugin operating
correctly. After the final LMS restart the plugin had again
disappeared:

Nothing shows up in the server.log.

David, There is some error happening when it tries to install your

More experimentation last night... while LMS gui is asking for a restart
due to plugin DENON I am able to go to PLAYER/DENON and change settings,
make it active etc. It still hasn't appeared in the plugin list yet
though. Turn on the player and the app works, it controls my amplifier,
as it always has in the past. As soon as I restart LMS it is broken,
even if I do a basckup of pCP to SD first. There is something during the
restart that wipes the DENON files.

Any thoughts appreciated, David

Thanks for the tip. The DENON files are now staying in the plugin
directory... a step in the right direction, but the PLUGIN still doesn't
appear in LMS, even though the main GUI states that it needs a restart
due to the DENON plugin. Restart, restart, restart, several times
including pCP restarts, files still there, but no PLUGIN in the list.

They have been deleted by PCP. After installing you need to do a backup
via pCP - main page with beta on. It writes everything to the SD card -
your changes were done in RAM

Have been using Filezilla but will give WinSCP a go if it helps?

Have checked (and changed) octal on folder and files to suit existing
plugins (only SPOTTY at this time!). Copied the files of SPOTTY into
windows environment to check ownership & permissions and checked that
the DENON ones were the same (they were). All to the best of my ability,
which may not be great! I am placing the DENON folder and files into tce
- slimserver - Cache - InstalledPlugins - Plugins.

The glimpse of hope that I get is in the screen cap where on refreshing
after restarting LMS it reports that a restart is required - DENON etc.
Have done that with great patience, but the plugin never appears in the
list or elsewhere. What is then strange is that when I check the file
structure in pCP after restating LMS as requested I find that all of the
files from the DENON folder in PLUGINS are missing, they have been
deleted by LMS or pCP!!!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated, David

Malcolm

some of this background would have been very useful to everyone when we
started the journey lol.

Anyway, the piCorePlayer LMS system will be a much better experience and
you can control it in the same manner as the QNAP LMS.

I sent you via pm a link to download a preconfigured picoreplayer image
that I made last Friday (to save some hassle for you).

So if you still have a problem tomorrow that is not resolved, pm your
telephone number to me and I can call Friday afternoon to help you sort
things out.

you seem to be nearly there ;)

I've tried that and some other things with no success. I'm now
considering re-copying pCP to the SD card and starting again. For a few
minutes, after acting on your instruction, Spotify was working
beautifully so at least I know that it CAN work! I'm 83 in September:(-

I see you've filled in your details (username and password), have you

to do to authorise your Pi if you don't have a Spotify app on a phone,

However, I am now baffled by Spotty Authorisation (see image) and cannot
find the list of Spotify available devices. I have tried unsuccessfully
to do this on my PC and on an iPhone.
Am I missing something obvious?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify help - Raspberry Pi the answer?

2017-07-27 Thread Man in a van

This "Restart" with pCp has only been a recent development and I'm not
sure if it applies to v7.9.0, but I have had it in V7.9.1 since a LMS
update a week or so ago.

I did a fresh pcp ( I think it was 3.02) install for testing on
Wednesday am and I had to manually restart LMS from the pcp web gui
(this was going from v7.90 up to v 7.9.1)

I have not mentioned to anyone doing a first time install as I thought
that it would

a) confuse the issues even more
and
b) Im not sure when it becomes default behaviour
and
c) I forgot all about it.

I know that it can take a heck of a long time to work though and the
only indication in Windows is a spinning circle and a small notice
saying "connecting to 192.1.168.***.

Perhaps this is causing some of the problems for folk who are new to pcp
(forget about the age lol ;))

Did you say you were using Filezilla or WinSCP ?
You need to navigate to a folder containing a working plugin and examine
the properties of the files & folders - I think its a right click in
both - and note down the user / group and the octal (0777 etc or
sometimes displayed graphically with check boxes RWX etc)
Then go to the top level of one of your non-working plugins that you
moved in there and apply the same ownership and permissions recursively.
If they are already the same as a working one then that probably isn't
the issue.

I shall echo that
We ARE trying to help Malcolm, but it does become frustrating when we
ask a question, or give specific guidance, and it appears to be ignored
and/or answered with another question.
Persevere, because it does work and we will get you there. Unfortunately
(for you) it's second nature to some of us and there is no idiots guide
with pictures as such (I may write one but I don't have time until
probably Friday evening) so sometimes we say things that are obvious to
ourselves but not to others.

PS To Ronnie. You old git, you kept that quiet!

Well, a name at last.

Malcolm, I'm seventy, my Mother is 104 and 10 months, she _-*is*-_ a
senior citizen and *::very::* slow

With all of this stuff, you have to keep trying until you get it sorted
in your own mind.

All this installation procedure is documented in various posts which can
be found using google and a bit of careful thought about the question,
that's how I and some others do it.

Read, try and if it works make a note of how you did it for when you
next balls it up:p

It would help if you answered questions:

tick the plug in box
click apply
when the restart box appears go to the LMS page on picoreplayer and
click restart

23229

a box will open at the top of the page giving you information, when LMS
is running again return to the Web gui settings page and refresh it,
then follow the previous instructions

The plugin certainly is working. Unfortunately not for everyone (tons of
Synology devices with unsupported armel or armle type processors). But you

And we are 100% confident that it is a valid plugin.
The name is Michael trying to tell people that the plugin does not
provide a "Spotify Connect" interface (yet). If you don't know what
Spotify Connect is then look it up on Google.

On piCorePlayer the pop up is a warning to tell you to restart LMS but
you have to do it via the piCorePlayer interface. Clicking the pop up is
just an acknowledgement. Read the text carefully.

which appeared.

How confident are we that '-Spotty Spotify implementation for
Squeezebox. Not quite connect ready-' really is a working plugin? And
why hasn't it got a sensible name??
