Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch - Synology NAS / Help needed
Re 2. make a copy of the image to each subfolder and clear and rescan everything . LMS supports embedded image if that does not exists it looks for an image in the same folder as the music files not the folder above as in the case with disc 1 2 Re 1. The music folder does not use the tag information it just uses the folders and files in the sort order they are in , it is specifically designed to not use tags ,for testing purpose or untagged librarys . You can use a tagging tool to rename the files to include track nr in front then they sort right . But this mode is slower than the others it is best to use tags so would not bother. Best solution is to separate the files so that you can point LMS to only the lossles files + files you only have in lossy formats, there are several ways to figure that out . Another solution is to use a function in the advanced file types menu called Disabled Audio File Extensions and disable the lossy formats from scanning , this only works if you actually have dual copies of everything and does not wan't any lossy files visible. 3. scanning takes time depending on size of collection and cpu and memory of the server NAS is usually slow if small energy efficient and quiet shows up somewhere . So make changes in batches and do a scan when your not listening when your at work or sleeps . This is less of problem later when the collection is in working order with the tags you want then you only add an albm now and then Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95479 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch - Synology NAS / Help needed
hello, i finally added SBT to my system. previously i was playing my music files on my laptop. my configuration is; SBT + Synology DS211j + DACMagic2 + CA Azur 640 + Wireworld Starlight Coax cable i have several questions both on SBT configuration and playing Hi-Res flac files. 1. first i have my archive in main folders such as albums for standart mp3 files, lossless albums for flac files, soundtracks, classical etc. i would like to reach them as seperate libraries as in JRiver. on my SBT under de albums i see them in one folder all mixed up. when i go thru music folders on SBT, i see them as i pointed under dedicated folder structure as i mentioned above but cannot play tracks in track number order, it just plays in alphabetical order. 2. another issue on album covers. i store all my album covers in the album folders named as front.jpg. problems occurs when there are more then one disc, i have subfolders such as disc 1, disc 2. covers cannot be displayed if there are subfolders in the main album folder. 3. scanning takes so much time, i don't want SBT rescan all the time. what is the best and quickest way rescanning the music archive for changes? 4. i can only get 44.1 while playing hi-res flac files. my DAC supports up to 96 but i always get 44.1, i have choosen my coax cable one of the preffered overe here, Wireworld Starlight, i don't it's the cable. what should i do to play the flac as they are. thanks in advance eLiasGR's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56430 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95479 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS
I got it today, and I have to say: this is an amazing device! Setting it up was a breeze. I connected it to my Home Theater system: a flagship Pioneer receiver and Axiom speakers. I connected it to my network through ethernet cable and it started to work right away. I was able to connect it to my NAS Apple Lossless music files via my old laptop and the Logitech Media Server installed on it. It worked great, great quality of music and no buffering or playback stops. Very happy with the setup! Thank you for all your help guys and for your suggestions. The setup is fine for now. I will certainly look in the future to add other devices in my setup, possibly a NAS (or other device you have suggested) with SB server built in, an external DAC and so on. -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

There's a good change that these NAS'es have more proc power than an old retired laptop you buy for $50. Besides that, a NAS is a setup and forget kind of device. No OS patches or service packs to install every week or so. There is also power considerations. NAS'es are built to run 24/7 and have power tweaking settings. Welcome. The forums' search feature is your friend. Search on DNS-321 and you'll turn up a few hits. This one in particular is not encouraging: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73531 , especially taking into account that raven22 is one of the more knowledgeable users around here when it comes to getting LMS running on D-Link NASs. In addition, transcoding of Apple lossless doesn't work on the Touch, so it has to be transcoded on the server. That would put additional strain on the DNS-321 that it probably can't handle. In my opinion you would be better off using an inexpensive, low-power pc as a music server. You can run it headless, like a NAS. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS
Yes, the old machine has to be connected to the network. It can be wifi or wired (ethernet). My evolution of SB servers has been: 1) old surplus Dell running the server, accessing music library on a LinkStation HG NAS. That lasted about 1-2 months before I got brave enough for... 2) running the server directly on the LinkStation HG NAS (hacked via instructions on this forum and on www.nas-central.org). That lasted a couple years until 3) a friend gave me a LinkStation Pro NAS, which I used for both server and music storage, hacking it using the same forums as before. 4) Then about three years ago I tired of all the hoops required to keep the server running on a NAS, especially because I was running a lot of beta versions of the server software while testing beta SB hardware. So I bought a headless nettop pc for running the server and holding the music library. It's a small computer with a low-energy Intel Atom CPU. It draws about 23w when running, and can go into suspend/hibernate when not streaming. In suspend it draws about 3w, and can be woken up and running LMS in less than 5 seconds. I installed 2GB RAM and a 500GB laptop hard drive (quiet, low energy) and the whole thing came to less than US$300 -- and that was 3 years ago. There are a lot of good small form factor PCs available for a reasonable price, but even if you have an old ugly beast, one of the beauties of the SB system is that you can shove the server out of sight in a closet or basement somewhere.
