[Bug 240116] [NEW] Default File Naming in nautilus

2008-06-14 Thread Sriram
Public bug reported:

On installing templates in the ~/Templates directory, if two new files of a
template are to be created in the same directory, naming is currently done as:
New .abc
New .abc 1
It should instead have been:
New .abc
New 1.abc
because the former creates wrong file extension and certain image
templates, for eg. xcf[gimp files] format finds it as an error while opening it.

[Bug 240114] [NEW] GMAIL doesn't work after update

2008-06-14 Thread bruno
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I believe the last update to Firefox 3 has killed my gmail. It no longer loads
up and I can only access with other browsers or if I use the old pure html
version.

I haven't changed any settings and it was working fine before the last
update.

Now it hangs while loading the initial page. GMAIL loading progress bar
stays blank and that's it.

I'm using:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309

[Bug 240115] [NEW] X fails to start on Averatec 3250H Laptop

2008-06-14 Thread Andrew_H
Public bug reported:

I used Wubi to install Kubuntu-KDE4 8.04 on my Averatec 3250H laptop
which has a Via CLE266 graphics chip. When I boot into Kubuntu X never
starts and I am left at the console prompt. It looks like for both vesa
and openchrome the autodetection is not finding any valid video modes
and therefore X is failing to start.

I have successfully run Kubuntu 6.10, 7.04, 7.10 on this same hardware.

I also discovered that setting up the launcher to execute

[Bug 141564] Confirm bug & solution with 7.10 upgrade to 8.04

2008-06-14 Thread Bogdan Bivolaru
I had KUbuntu 7.10 and I upgraded to 8.10 using Adept.
Devices in /media (hdd) were appearing with uuid symbols. Accessing them
reported "Feature only available with HAL."
I ran /usr/lib/hal/hald-generate-fdi-cache and now devices in /media behave
normally.

Possibly related:
After upgrade I could access the mounted CD/DVD just fine (even before running
hald-generate-fdi-cache), but ejecting or unmounting the CDrom kept reporting:
"kio_media_mounthelper: <>"

This was not solved by running hald-generate-fdi-cache. The problem is
still standing.

[Bug 239697] Re: Compiz causes textoverlay in Amarok 'Now Playing' dialogue

I am also getting this behavior.
Its not only the text, it is also the amarok progress bars which are shown when

completed and only disappear when amarok is minimised/restored.
Amarok is the only app that I have noticed this happening in.

[Bug 237961] Re: synaptic doesnt open login cant update

2008-06-14 Thread greypoet
So I gather from the lack of a response that I either (a) posed a question too
difficult (b) have escaped the notice of someone who does have the answer (c)
seriously pissed someone off by admitting I am a beginner. Sorry, I am a
beginner and have limited knowledge/experience with Ubuntu. I am, however,
willing to take instructions.
Please consider this as a replacement for a really nasty diatribe which I could
have left but chose not to do, but remained civil hopping for a positive
response.

[Bug 240107] [NEW] kernel upgrade 2.6.24-18-generic killed gspca

2008-06-14 Thread Neville Chandler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-18-generic

After kernel upgrade 2.6.24-18-generic, the webcam ( Creative PD1170 )
has stopped working. The module 'gspca' will not load and generates an
error message and /dev/vide0 is not created.

The package containing this module is linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-18-generic
2.6.24-18.26
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
I expected the webcam to work as it usually did with ekiga and xawtv
Camera failed to work.

I've stopped using 2.6.24-18 and went back to 2.6.24-17-generic which
works perfectly.

[Bug 111694] Re: DeLORME Earthmate GPS LT-20 (USBid:1163:0200) doesn't work in Feisty

2008-06-14 Thread Harry Rockefeller
With a recent Ubuntu update things got good enough to work. I went
through the process of getting the new cypress_m8.c from 2.6.24-generic
source package. I did the usual change commenting out the
"cypress_set_dead(port);" line recompiled and using that module the
LT-20 GPS began talking. I had a problem with gpsdrive though. For
some reason it wasn't initializing correctly and trying to set
preferences caused it to die with segmentation fault. I eventually
found manually editing my gpsdriverc file to give a full path for
way.txt allowed me to select preferences and get gpsdrive out of
simulation mode! Well, it was either that or the other thing I did
which was to remove gpsdrive and reinstall it. So, at least I'm back to
the "workaround" which had worked in earlier Ubuntus. It would be nice
if cypress_m8 were fixed though.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-14 Thread Steve Langasek
darkrain42, I've had an opportunity to review your patch, and it looks
altogether correct to me (with one quibble over the error message
presented on authentication failure). Although upstream has expressed
concern about code duplication in the implementation, the two backends
already share more than half their code, and this patch brings them
closer to parity. Eliminating this code duplication is not something we
should strive for in an SRU; though for my part, I wonder why this was
ever done as two separate backends in the first place given the obvious
overlap.

However, even with this patch applied, I don't see correct behavior for
the share list when trying to connect to a samba server joined to an AD
realm.

TEST CASE:

1. install the samba, smbclient, and winbind packages.
2. configure your system to act as a member of an AD realm, and enable the
[homes] autoshares; e.g., in smb.conf:
  [global]
workgroup = CANONICAL
realm = CANONICAL.LOCAL
security = ADS
idmap backend = tdb
idmap uid = 1-2
idmap gid = 1-2
template shell = /bin/bash
  [homes]
comment = Home Directories
valid users = %S
create mask = 0700
directory mask = 0700
browseable = No
3. join your machine to the AD realm with 'net ads join'
4. sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart && sudo /etc/init.d/winbind restart
5. grab a Kerberos tgt for the account in the AD realm with the same name as
your login user by running 'kinit'. (You do not have to configure your local
machine for AD logins for this to work, but the username must match between the
AD realm and your local system.)
6. test with smbclient that the home share for the user is visible; i.e.,
"smbclient -L localhost -k" should return in the list of shares a share with
the same name as the user. (using "smbclient -L localhost -N", i.e., anonymous
connections, the share will not be visible.)
7. test whether nautilus sees this same share by running 'nautilus
smb://localhost/'.

EXPECTED RESULTS: gvfsd-smb-browse will transparently use the existing
Kerberos credentials when retrieving the browse list for the server, and
a folder will appear in nautilus with the same name as the user.

ACTUAL RESULTS: gvfsd-smb-browse fails to use the Kerberos credentials,
and the user's home share does not appear in the list.

That backtrace is quite different from the ones others have provided. Yours
looks more like a bug either in Qt3 or x.org.

[Bug 220501] Gutsy also affected

2008-06-14 Thread Dotan Mazor
This issue affect Gutsy (7.10) as well.

Toshiba Satellite L40-17U, only a USB mouse is connected.

Other symptoms:

- There were times when the Alt key was seemed as constantly pressed,
just before the freeze.

- Compiz was turned off and XGL disabled, but there are still hang-ups.

- Network "confusion"? These hang-ups started after starting to use
aMule and Azureus (not at the same time).

- The Laptop was on all night with Azureus working on sharing only,
without any downloads (sharing OpenSuse 10.3 ISO files, nothing
special). In the morning, when starting-up Firefox, the PC froze and
started the blink.

Possible directions:

- Overheating issue? The CPU temperature is about 60 degrees Celsius
when it happens, so I guess it can be ruled out.

- Network issue? Trying to work with the wifi turned off, to see if it
has anything to do with that.

Good luck tracing the problem!

Dotan

[Bug 240096] [NEW] Wire less Internet connection does't automatically reconnects

2008-06-14 Thread Sourabh
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am using hardy heron and in this i noticed a bug that internet
connection through wireless router(in my home) doesn't automatically
reconnects.

If due to power cut or by any reason router is restarted ubuntu hardy
doesn't reconnects it and only way to reconnect the internet is to
manually connect by reentering hexadecimal pass phrase. This problem is
not in Gutsy Gibbon that automatically reconnects the wireless internet
after router is down by any reason.

Thanks

[Bug 240095] [NEW] in php5-sybase, file sybase_ct.so is lost

2008-06-14 Thread Fwolf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5-sybase

when using ubuntu gutsy, php5-sybase 5.2.3-1ubuntu6.3, file sybase_ct.so exists

but after upgrade to hardy, php5-sybase 5.2.4-2ubuntu5 or 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.1,
this file is lost,
and try to use sybase_connect will report error:

I check changelog and find 2 possible change about this:

-- dAniel hAhler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Wed, 19 Dec 2007 10:48:04 +0100
php5 (5.2.4-2ubuntu1) hardy
* Fixes sybase_ct for MS SQL (LP: #21995)

-- sean finney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 16 Sep 2007 14:46:06 +0200
php5 (5.2.4-1) unstable
* Switch php5-sybase to use the mssql extension instead of the sybase_ct
extension. Closes: #418734, #329065.

Does usage of sybase_connect() changed ? or anything else I don't know ?
Nobody else use sybase_ct with php ? Why always migrage sybase with mssql?
they are same in early age and have big difference now.

[Bug 113693] Re: rhythmbox should provide more music radio stations

2008-06-14 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
I tried writing a script that grabs as much radio stations as possible
from that website, then spits out a rhythmbox iradio-initial.pls in the
current working directory. Maybe it can help, so I will attach it here.

Limitations:
- cpu intensive, it seems
- it is written in horrible ways and it shows
- the xiph directory changes all the time, it seems that the sorting is based
on the last radio that changed track title
- limited to 5 pages (100 stations) because the xiph website doesn't seem to
want to display more
- does not check for duplicates (caused by the ever changing xiph directory)
- only uses the first "genre" tag

[Bug 158167] Re: GDM Login fails w/Xen Kernel 2.6.22-14-xen

2008-06-14 Thread Craig Harding
I'm having the same problem. After logging into xfce I receive a warning
dialog window. I believe this problem is from an upgrade of the xserver-
xorg-core package which happened this morning.

uname -a: Linux charding-laptop 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Wed May 28
20:27:26 UTC 2008 i686

After logging into xfce I get the same warning dialog popup. Once I
click OK I get automatically logged out of my session and back to the
login prompt.

The package manager upgraded my xserver-xorg-core package this morning
before I shutdown and rebooted.

Using xubuntu 8.04. Logging into gnome works fine btw.

[Bug 231081] Re: ati driver will not turn on external display

2008-06-14 Thread ag65151
Would going back to Gutsy be a permanent solution? In other words, the
ati driver will never be fixed for this bug, so I need to stay with
Gutsy until this machine dies. Or is it just until this bug gets looked
at?

I am willing to wait if I know that someone is looking into fixing this
bug, but if it is going to remain broken, then I'll just go back to
Gutsy and be happy there.

Thanks for your input.

I am using kubuntu 8.04 with all updates installed. I have an Asus A8N-
sli premium motherboard. Sound was working when I was using kernel
version 2.6.24-16-generic. When I upgrade to a later version, I have
tried 2.6.24-17-generic and 2.6.24-18-generic, sound card does not work.
I have reverted back to kernel version 2.6.24-16-generic as sound is
working with it.

When I run "lspci | grep audio" I get:

00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97
Audio Controller (rev a2)

When I run "aplay -l" to list audio devices I get:

aplay: device_list:205: no soundcards found...

I have tried to see if a module is loaded using "lsmod | grep snd",
nothing is returned.

[Bug 239757] Re: Rhythmbox jams after other apps use ALSA

2008-06-14 Thread ivantheshifty
Just to make a note, I am experiencing the same bug (also running Ubuntu
Hardy). Symptoms identical to those reported by teledyn. RB will not
start playing a song if any other app has engaged ALSA first (another
player, firefox when viewing pages with sound, anything). If I start
any other alsa-using software first (tested w/ mplayer, audacious, and
firefox 3 beta), then RB will not play, keeping the tracker at 00:00.
Other apps don't conflict with each other, but they all conflict with
RB.

However, if I start RB as soon as I boot up, then it will monopolize
alsa and no other app is able to play any sounds. If I then close RB
and start another app (audacious), that app can play. If I then close
the other app and restart RB, RB will not play. I also suspect it's a
recent ubuntu update, as rhythmbox worked just fine until June 12 or
13.

[Bug 240090] [NEW] Removable media icons pile in same spot on desktop

2008-06-14 Thread Jayden Seric
Public bug reported:

Icons for removable media pile on top of each other in the same spot at
the top left of the desktop.

Example:
- A second windows hard-drive is connected to the computer from boot-up.
- Once logged in, insert a DVD to you DVD-drive. The DVD icon is automatically
placed on the desktop at the top-left.
- Go to Places and click on your windows hard-drive. The hard-drive icon is
automatically added to the desktop on top of the DVD icon.

I have experienced this bug many times in Ubuntu 8.04. Attached is a
screen shot of the bug.

[Bug 239912] Re: Thank you for overwriting my bootloader

2008-06-14 Thread Michael Gilbert
Well, this is a major usability/discoverability issue, and I don't think
it should be ignored. How was I supposed to know beforehand that I
needed to go into the advanced options in installer step 7?

My point is that this should be automatic (eliminate the need for user
interation and potential screw ups). If the bootloader exists, leave it
alone, but update the menu.lst with an ubuntu entry, otherwise install
the bootloader.

[Bug 240087] [NEW] MOD operation after a x ᶺ y operation don't work

2008-06-14 Thread Patzlaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I saw the bug number #172449 that is similar, but in this case the
problem was solved. In my case the gcalctool doesn't work fine.

My distribution is:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.04"

The packet with problem is:
$ dpkg -l | grep -i gcalctool
ii gcalctool 5.22.2-0ubuntu1
  A GTK2 desktop calculator

When I use MOD operation after a x^y operation the MOD function don't
work, because the result is invalid.

If I put 2^2 MOD 2 the message "Invalid modulus operation parameter(s)"
appears. And the result don't appears.

The correct result of this is 0. I tried some other ways like:
2^2 and after I clicked in "=". After I clicked in "=" I clicked in MOD and 2
and I clicked again in "=". The same message appears. I already tried with many
numbers. But in all cases I can't saw the correct result.

I will attach the screenshot of the calculator with this error.

[Bug 207473] Re: Screen brightness double level changes

2008-06-14 Thread Sympy
I reported #239413 following the advice above of Andreas Wenning and
reported #239706 when I noticed that the scope of the multiple key
pressing problem goes beyond the scope of the brightness keys. I think
the difference between them is that this one (#207473) and #239413 deal
with the power-manager part of the problem (KDE and Gnome,
respectively), while #239706 deals directly with the hal problem, which
is also affecting the CRT/LCD key.

[Bug 239930] Re: scanner port detection

2008-06-14 Thread peter b
I just installed xp and see if agfa snapscan e50 works or is defective;
yes it does work with no problems.

 - I noticed that after shutting down the pc after the xp run the
scanner front panel light went off contrary to hardy shutdown - the
light was always on on scanner panel (as it does on the usb wifi dongle)
- question - is this normal after hardy pc shutdown ? is the scanner
reset at power up and hardy boot ?

 - then I powered up the pc and boot into hardy, first surprise, --> the
panel light came up and the scanning light moved during boot up as well
as during hardy loading and after hardy was up and running another
surprise greeted me > xsane loaded with no problems.

 - after this experience it appears that scanner resetting process at
boot and/or hardy load PRIOR to xsane load did not take place the way
xsane expects it to. why did it work flawlessly after xp shut it down ?
and not before ?

 - another point, xsane on the help page mentiones ver 1 and above while
the repo is still at 0.995 --> is there any chance to get a more recent
version (1 or above) on hardy repo please ?

I'll keep an eye on xsane for a while --> load xsane daily, do at least

[Bug 235985] Re: Strange ghosting/smearing rendering on a specific page

2008-06-14 Thread Chris Schadl
Whoops, I somehow missed Supersonicdarky's post. But yeah, it only
happens when asian characters are rendered in small point-sizes.

I think it has to do with the size of the kana. If I just increase the
font size for the page with Ctrl++, the ghosting doesn't occur.

You can find Hardy builds of flash 10 for Ubuntu on my PPA. More than
likely you will want to download libflashsupport and flash 10 from that
repo since there will be other things pushed to there and its very
possible gonna break your system. Flash works as expected nothing on
that link ATM is broken.
