[Bug 301480] Re: can't connect to PAN NAP
I can confirm this problem on my setup too. This is a severe regression from hardy. The excellent functionality provided by pand et al was fairly simple to set up and use. And it worked. The new dbus configuration method obscures everything unless you know the dbus system and command line options. And it doesn't work. The new system is a big step backwards in usability, and the compat package doesn't work, so the previous functionality is broken. Please can we have a nice config file to set system defaults for NAP GN and PANU. I would like my system to boot up to providing a NAP service without my having to enable it manually. A graphical interface in GNOME to do the same would be the icing on the cake. -- can't connect to PAN NAP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 252094] Re: Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10
I also managed to fix the performance (from 600fps to 1000fps with a GM45) as well as frequent crashes (consistently with etracer for instance). This is on an intrepid amd64 system. 1. install a 2.6.28 kernel (I got the current one from jaunty). 2. from the xorg-edgers ppa, install the mesa an required packages, and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.4.97.0+git20081129 3. restart X (before restarting it works, but with warning that GEM is not used, and no performance improvement) I didn't need to compile a custom kernel or kernel modules. I got the error with X not restarting (same as portis above) when I was using xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.5.1 from jaunty. Using the 2.4.97 version from xorg-edgers fixed that. -- Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Reconfirming, happens for me in Ubuntu 8.10, Kubuntu 8.10, Mint 8.10 and Xubuntu 8.10. It also occurs when I use (Ctrl+)Alt+Fx to switch to tty. Switching *between* ttys works fine, but switching to and from tty - from and to X - reverts brightness to 100% which seems to be my default. Thanks for resolving my bug. I have to repair still tree bugs. The first problem is after upgrading (what was an act of 2 weeks time with a lot of reading of the ubuntu forum) my computer hangs on a black screen with a blinking curser when I tray to shut down the machine. I could'nt resolve the problem in reading the treads of the forum. The second bug is my wireless connection (I get my internet connection only with wireless) dosen't connect automatically. I a terminal I have to type allways sudo dhclient to connect. But since the upgrade to Hardy 0.10 (I have the ubuntu studio) this doesn't work allways. Sometimes I have to restart the machine to make my internet connection work. The third and probably most difficult bug is an input-output error on sda1. If I try to download from the internet a bigger file I can be shure the system hangs. To fix the problem I changed the motherboard and the hard drive without succsess. I use an ASUS P5B-MX/WIFI-AP with 4G ram. Thanks Martin On Mon, 2008-12-01 at 21:32 +, Jean-Baptiste Lallement wrote: Thanks for following up. I'm closing this report due to your last comment. I can confirm this issue too, but it's unique to the access point. I have connected successfully to dozens of other access points, but I'm trying to connect to an SMC Barricade SMC7004AWBR. [Bug 270726] Re: [upstream] openoffice.org PDF conversion puts lines into background
It seems the problem really resides in Poppler - the free library used by Evince and many others to read PDFs. Specifically, it appears to be in the Cairo backend of Poppler, as people seem to be reporting other backends render the PDFs correctly. Links to the main bug reports citing gradient issues (filed under Poppler, which is overseen by FreeDesktop.org): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10942 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14160 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15501 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16235 KPDF and XPDF suffer from the same problems as Evince - presumably using the same poppler libraries with Cairo. Interestingly, gv entirely failed to load my test PDF documents. So I don't know if a problem also exists within OO - I haven't done the final test of using some pieces of rubbish such as Microshi* Office/Adobe Acrobat to create some PDFs with gradients and test loading them with the poppler libraries. -- [upstream] openoffice.org PDF conversion puts lines into background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 290885] Re: SRU: Backport of Boot Degraded RAID functionality from Intrepid to Hardy
Martin- I consciously did *not* edit the postinst to do the grub install, in order to keep with the rule of least surprise. I agree with Steve's comments that it would be quite nice if this could be done automatically, but I don't think messing with every RAID user's MBR is something that we should/could do automatically. In any other circumstance, upgrading the grub package installs new binaries to the system, but it doesn't reinstall the bootloader. One thing I've learned over the last 6 months developing, testing, and debugging this work is that there are some varied and unique RAID setups out there. It's impossible to catch all of them. As I said before, I think this part of the enable my Hardy system for booting degraded RAID should be handled via documentation. There is a server-guide task attached to this bug. We need to add a bit there. Probably something in the Community documentation would be good. And I can certainly blog about it. Beyond that, code-wise, perhaps we could emit a warning in the grub-install postinst, that detects if /boot is on a RAID, and recommend that the user investigate the situation and perhaps run grub-install on the device. Steve mentioned update-notifier, which might be interesting on some desktop systems running RAID, but it's not present on the server. :-Dustin -- SRU: Backport of Boot Degraded RAID functionality from Intrepid to Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305532] [NEW] bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy
Public bug reported: hi, i've got my kubuntu hardy fully updated with kernel 2.6.24-22-generic in a single-core machine, 32 bits. the thing is that i've used ubuntu for some time now and i never had problems with my mouse or keyboard which talks to kubuntu through bluetooth. Right now, with hardy (and also intrepid) i'm unable to use the keyboard, while the mouse works ok. both mouse and keyboard are advent and i've tried with concentronik and also belkin usb bluetooth on my computer. The one i'm using right now show this: * # lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0a5c:200a Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth dongle Bus 001 Device 001: ID : # The issue is quite weird and hard to explain, let's hope i put it very clear: steps to reproduce this problem: -i put my mouse on visible mode -i press right button on bluetooth icon and say add device -i find new mouse, i add it, and i'm able to use it without any more trouble. -kubunts asks me if i trust this device, i say yes, always and then i'm able to use it whenever i want without any problem. -i reboot the machine and i'm still able to use the bluetooth mouse after pressing several times any of the buttons.. i guess this is normal behaviour... but anyway... it's ok to me... -also, for example, i've got ktorrent in .kde/Autostart and it starts without problem and i can see its icon on the task bar (i'll explain later why this is important) now it comes where the problem starts: -i put my keyboard on visible mode -i press right button on bluetooth icon and say add device -i find new keyboard, i add it. -kubuntu asks me to enter a key that i set up in my bluetooth device. It's a simple keyboard, i guess it doesn't have this key (it used to work without any problem before)... so... i press empty key and after a few seconds waiting and pressing God knows how meny keys. the keyboard seems to work. -kubunts asks me if i trust this device, i say yes, always -i reboot the machine to see if kubuntu still can find both devices -when kubuntu is back... i move the mouse... and it starts working i press some keys on the keyboard but i won't work at all. even if i delete it from the trusted devices and so on and i get back to set up the device... it won't work... -i also find then that the ktorrent icon is not there anymore, although ktorrent seems to be working. Also, if i launch firefox, for example, i can't see the top bar where the X to close the window is... so i have to go File-Exit to exit firex. [Bug 305431] Re: kontact crashed with no crash handler
Unfortunately not. To my knowledge KCrash doesn't save the backtraces anyway. For what it's worth: there have been repeatedly reports about KMail with IMAP going down and taking data with it. But it's not really necessary to have a backtrace to tell you that it this crash probably appeared because of the design shortcomings in KMail. The good news is, KDEPim is going to start using Akonadi (a completely new approach to store PIM data) in 4.2 and once KMail makes full use of it I am very confident that for one data should be a lot more secure and for another KMail with IMAP shouldn't crash (like not at all). I am marking the bug as invalid since we can't precisely trace the issue, but it will be fixed by Akonadi most likely. ** Changed in: kdepim (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- kontact crashed with no crash handler https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdepim in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 294972] Re: xorg 10-20% cpu usage after intrepid upgrade, general system sluggishness
I'd also like to add this happens with me as well. I have a high end machine (3.4Ghz CPU, dual SLI 8800 GTX, RAID0 SSD, 4GB RAM) and firefox will cause Xorg to 100% CPU and everything freezes for sometimes as long as 5+ seconds when opening or closing new tabs. Even loading pages feels sluggish or causes freeze. After GDM log-in, the desktop will also hang for 10+ seconds with only the background image showing. Panels, icons, startup sound, etc. are not loading until many seconds later. Disabling Compiz doesn't improve things that much. (maybe shaves one second off) I've tried with SLI enabled and disabled and get same results. It seems to be an issue that happened late with 8.04 after some upgrades, and wasn't fixed/resolved in 8.10. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? [Bug 305362] Re: Bittorrent disables internet connetion
I'm okay with that. I might have been too hasty at that point. It also depends on what one means by security. I felt that when ones Internet (wireless in this case) disappears, something was not so secure. Anyway. Feel free to contact me for more info. [Bug 300523] Re: syndaemon turns disabled touchpad back on after typing
Further investigation of this issue has seen me return to the vanilla Xorg.conf (without SHMConfig turned on). The issue can be described more simply as follows. 1. syndaemon, as launched by the default Intrepid install, is using XInput to change the touchpad properties. 2. synclient uses SHMConfig to change touchpad properties, and requires SHMConfig to be set in Xorg.conf, even though it isn't by default. 3. /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh uses synclient to toggle the enabled state of the touchpad. Trying to use a mixed SHMConfig/XInput solution to control touchpad properties caused the issue I described initially. There are two solutions to this that I can see. One is to update synclient to use XInput instead of SHMConfig, to be in line with the recently-updated syndaemon. The other, which I have implemented as a workaround, is to edit the asus-touchpad.sh script to use XInput to toggle the touchpad on and off. The modified asus-touchpad.sh is attached; it now works correctly with syndaemon. ** Attachment added: modified asus-touchpad.sh, works through `xinput` instead of `synclient` now http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20235392/asus-touchpad.sh -- syndaemon turns disabled touchpad back on after typing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 294972] Re: xorg 10-20% cpu usage after intrepid upgrade, general system sluggishness
Re: LinuxKrn Yeah I found it odd because it actually locks up the system, not just the firefox process. There are other websites that do this for me (as I mentioned, farechase.yahoo.com after I submit a search), but that one is pretty consistent. I noticed a bunch of these in my Xorg.log when the system becomes unresponsive: - [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop. [mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping. - Another interesting thing I noticed is that sometimes CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch a terminal results in a flicker of the screen as if it will switch to a term, but then it flashes back to the GUI and sometimes is responsive again. Further investigation led me to believe that the system is still operating, just nothing is redrawing. I opened a term via a shortcut on my gnome-panel and executed mplayer and the music started while the screen remained frozen. Even the terminal I opened wasn't actually visible.. I just typed the commands as if the window opened and was focused (as it should be if the system was operating normally).
