[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1877402] Re: The Italian translation is not complete
Hi, the Italian translation is complete upstream: https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/simple-scan/gnome-3-36/po/it/ and it has been at least since GNOME 3.34. As far as I can tell, there should not be any differences between upstream GNOME and Ubuntu. Of note is that the last updated Italian translation available in Launchpad appears to be from 2018. I'm not really keen on updating the translation on Launchpad, since they should be synced automatically with upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Translations Coordinators, which is subscribed to Ubuntu Translations. The PO file though doesn't seem to have been imported, at least for the Italian language. The last changed date in Launchpad is set to 2016-03-15, but the upstream translation for the 3.28 cycle has been completed (and it was complete also for the 3.26 cycle). A few links to check things out: * The Launchpad Italian translation: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+source/simple-scan/+pots/simple-scan/it/+translate * The upstream Italian translation: https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/simple-scan/master/po/it Upstream hasn't branched 3.28 yet, so I wonder if this is just a matter of waiting for a new release to be imported in Launchpad. [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1312401] Re: Filter type names incorrect after upgrade to 14.04 and results don't correspond to the selected types
I approved string 15 on the unity-scope-home for Italian, but it is still not clear to me how those strings are used in unity. Since they look pretty similar to GNOME strings that are used to provide search terms, usually we translate them in the same way. Meaning that original words have to be kept in order to provide search terms. From what I gather from this bug report, those strings are not used in that way (each word appears to be a positional value). If that's the case, I would suggest to add translator comments for those strings with instructions on how they are used and how they should be treated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Translations Coordinators, which is subscribed to Ubuntu Translations. [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Project bosniauniversetranslation
Hello everyone, yesterday on IRC we had a discussion with Laura (in CC), David and Jeroen regarding this team on Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/bosnianuniversetranslation I contacted the owne of the project, what follows is his reply: ## Quoting Milo Casagrande m...@ubuntu.com: Well, let me give some bit of history. I teach Operating Systems course at University of Sarajevo, and my students can choose kind of homework for 10% of the final grade. The most of students prefer to translate Ubuntu to Bosnian language. Yearly they are about 60 students who participate in this project. In previous years, Launchpad allowed translation of KDE and big part of GNOME, so there was enough job for all of them. Launchpad is wonderful for coordinating such project, it has big translation memory, and I do not need to send po files to every student. And it is much better and faster than Pootle. But Launchpad Ubuntu started to decline, it first dropped XFCE, then ekiga, then synaptics, then Firefox, then many GNOME applications, then KOffice and finally all of KDE. In Ubuntu repository alone there is no enough strings for all participants. As sending po files by E-mail is not practical, I set up this repository. Currently I use it for translating KDE (Bosnian only), until yesterday 4.9, and now I started to translate 4.10. My students used this repository to translate KDE 4.9 and I uploaded it on December 21 to upstream KDE (about 35000 new strings), so it is not true that is was not used anywhere else (however only for Bosnian language). I have also access to LibreOffice upstream, and currently I negotiate with GNOME. I had one problem with exporting, though. After exporting, Launchpad Contributors in Your Names field is messy, and repeated after each exporting. So, I had to manually fix it. The semester is approaching to its end, so I do not expect large activity on bosnianuniversetranslation after January 24. However, is there any hope, that this wait a litle bit for general universe translation site will be ready before September 2013? There are promises for it since 2008, but I am only witness of reduction of main repository. ### The project seems also, in some way, reasonable, looks like they are working with upstream too. Only they are importing an enormous amount of PO files, for one team's sake. I'm not so sure how to deal with it in this case... any suggestions? Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] About bosnianuniversetranslation Project
Hello Samir, thanks for getting back to me. I added Jeoren, Laura and David in CC, they are all involved with translations in Launchpad and Ubuntu, and might give you an idea of what can be done or what are the issues we are facing. What you are doing is remarkable, we really do not want to stop you from doing it, I hope my first message was not misleading on that front. As it stands today, though, some of that work might be void due to how universe translations work in Launchpad. As long as you are actively sending upstream (to the original projects) all the translations done, that's fine, but that will be a manually task, probably even in the future. The problem we are facing is on how you set up the project: https://launchpad.net/bosnianuniversetranslation And in particular the translation part: https://translations.launchpad.net/bosnianuniversetranslation If I go there, at the translation link, I can start translating even into my own language, or even into your own language: the translation policy is set to open. This can, and probably will, lead to work that will never be used if somebody discovers the project and starts translating into their own language. What is possible to do, might be this: - Set up a new translation *group* dedicated to this task - Add the Bosnian translation team as member to this group, or even set up a separate Bosnian translation team for the universe packages, administerd also by the Bosnian translation team - Ask your students to join the Bosnian translation team, or the newly created team - Set the permission of the translation to Restricted, so that only the people in the group and the team can translate With time, it would even be possible to grow this group into a full translation group dedicated for translating Ubuntu universe packages. Hello, as suggested in another bug, I kindly invite you to discuss these issues directly on the translators mailing list. With particular reference to this issue, it has been discussed quite a lot, and is a controversial one. It is not a real bug, there is not a real error in the translation, and has been suggested quite often to change its translation. It is not a rather easy task too, since we cannot change it directly in Ubuntu, we have to work with upstream (Gnome in particular). I'm leaving this bug open, and I will bring this discussion up again on the translators mailing list. I suggest you to subscribe to the mailing list if you want to take part into this discussion. Looks really in good shape compared to what we used to have! :-) We'll need to check out what needs to be done with the bunch of KDE templates in the queue, but it's quite early in the cycle (i.e. things are not considered to be stable) and I think this should not be a blocker for opening translations. I believe some of them will need to be simply approved or their source package or path changed as a result of a reorganization upstream. If you've got some time and you could have a look at the imports queue and see if there is any template you can act on or if you notice anything worth reporting, that'd be awesome. Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Global administrative template pages now usable
Hi, 2010/8/23 David Planella david.plane...@ubuntu.com: Hi Translations Coordinators, I just wanted to mention that thanks to Adi's and Danilo's work we can use the per-release template admin pages to administer... well, as the name says each release's templates :) They are accessible here: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+templates just wanted to say Thank You to Adi and all the Launchpad Translations team for this work! I added some notes to some of the packages. Some needs to be disabled from the UI. Don't have enough time during the day to do so, can sombedoy take a look at them please? Thanks. Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Software Center Help Translations
Hi, 2010/2/25 David Planella david.plane...@ubuntu.com: I had a quick chat with Michael Vogt and suggested him to integrate the help file with ubuntu-docs. This would give the benefits that: * Translations would be more visible to translators, as they'd be in the Ubuntu templates list at translations.lp.net/ubuntu * They'd be shipped as part of ubuntu-docs, and integrated in the package's workflow (i.e. translations would be built before NonLanguagePackDeadline) * This will make it possible to ship only the translations in the user's locale (as opposed to all translations). Now ubuntu-docs are part of language packs. * It would be consistent with what other Ubuntu applications do at the moment with documentation (e.g. usb-creator) Michael told me he hadn't any strong view for one approach or the other, so I suggested I'd contact the documentation team to integrate the documentation in ubuntu-docs. Before I do that, what do you guys think? I think we should go that way for now, or we might end up with no translations at all for the Software Center help. But I think we should really consider shipping separate packages for documentation in the future, and also maybe talk with the doc team about splitting up the documentation (but that's another topic probably not for this mailing list). Hi Gabor 2010/2/23 David Planella david.plane...@ubuntu.com: As we spoke some days ago, and as we got a big +1 in that, I contacted Gábor to ask him if he'd like to join us in the UTC team. [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] postgresql po files stuck in the queue
Hi, also postgresql has a lot of po file stuck in the queue. Looking at one of those files, looks like they don't have the template set. Should we set the template for those files? https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/postgresql-8.3/+imports Take for example the first one: the source path says something like backend, but since there's no backend template, I guess its template is the postgres-8.3. https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/postgresql-8.3 Another one has initdb in the source path, and there is a initdb-8.3 template. Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] .po files stuck in the import queue
Hi Arne, 2009/8/6 Arne Goetje a...@canonical.com: The .translation.tar.gz tarballs get created on build time when pkgbinarymangler is installed. These tarballs are fed to Rosetta and include all the templates and .po files for a given source package. In order to find out packaging bugs, we need to investigate these tarballs. Change the date in line 34 to include the latest import date of the package you are looking for. The script will output all imports since that date. So, you may need to filter the output. :) Isn't there a way to specify the source package I'm looking for? Running that script takes ages, at least for me. I was trying to see the m4 tarball file (the first in the import queue), but it really takes a lot of time. What about xpi files? There is one at the beginning of the queue, how do we handle those? Same as others? -- Milo Casagrande m...@ubuntu.com ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-translations-coordinators Post to : ubuntu-translations-coordinators@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-translations-coordinators More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Grep package
Hi guys, I was looking today at the grep translations in Launchpad as I saw that for my language it is not complete, even if I completed it upstream. Looking at the import queue, all the po files are in need review since April (?), but there's a strange po file at the beginning of the queue: https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/grep/+imports What can we do about that? Should we approve them manually? What about the first one?
