[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-05-23 Thread Manfred Hampl
@Bib: The 100.14.23 driver is an old version from October 2007 and is not
fitting your hardware.
As you can see from
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/100.14.23/README/appendix-a.html it
supports GeForce 6*, GeForce 7*, GeForce 8* and Geforce FX cards, but not the
GeForce2 and Geforce4.

@all: Why isn't there a task for nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-05-23 Thread Timothy Pearson
This bug also affects the Trinity Desktop Environment. I suspect that
all XRandR-aware programs will crash if active when an XRandR change
event is received and processed via XRRUpdateConfiguration() on certain
Xorg drivers.

For the record, downgrading xlibs and associated packages to their
respective Oneiric versions did resolve the problem for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise

2012-05-23 Thread Chris Cheney
This seems to fix the problem:

http://souriguha.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/how-to-solve-problem-with-
thinkpadkslowd-kworker-on-linux-kernel-2-35-2-36/

And yes this problem existed before 12.04, at least in 11.10 as well,
but it didn't seem to happen nearly as often.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise

2012-05-23 Thread Chris Cheney
I tried adding the lines in #2 to a xorg.conf file but it didn't seem to
help for my ThinkPad X200. The mouse is barely usable and I see high cpu
usage for kworker in top. It happens every time I use my laptop, but
usually not for the first few minutes, so if there is a good way to
debug kworker issues I could probably help track down the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread danrgmc
I would like to be added as a subscriber to this bug. This finally lists people
with the same type crashes/logouts I have been getting ever since I installed
12.04-x86_amd64. I also receive the same error messages. I can watch videos in
2d mode without problems-when I switch to 3d I start getting random restarts. I
have tried Nvidia drivers 295.40, 295.49, 295.53, 302.07, finally 302.11.
@reason just to let yu know the 30*.** drivers are in the repos.
(ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa). Just last night I upgraded to Ubuntu mainstream kernel
v. 3.4. No problems-with the difference that now I can watch a video for 30-45
minutes without crashing instead of 2-5 mins. Instead of reverting to the
version 290.** some of you did I'm just going to stay with 2d until this gets
fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-05-23 Thread Ken McLean
Well, I apologise, I was wrong. I managed to fix my problem.

When running unity_support_test -p I was receiving "Error: no composite
extension".

I ran:
sudo nvidia-xconfig --composite

Rebooted

and now I am running Unity 3D.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

I upgraded from Lucid to Precise and experienced display corruption.
Text and widgets were displaying inconsistently on the screen, and
tended to disappear or re-appear as I moved the mouse over them, making
it nearly impossible to login with either ligthdm or gdm. More
importantly, the desktop environment was unusable. In Lucid I was using
the Ubuntu-packaged proprietary Nvidia drivers. I'm using an HP
EliteBook 8540p with the Nvidia NVS 5100M chip and was using nvidia-
  common 1:0.2.44 and nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1. I tried nvidia-
  current-updates and nvidia-current from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates with
  no success.

I disabled X and uninstalled nvidia-common/nvidia-current and began

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949286] Re: System Crash / Restart

2012-05-23 Thread Piyush Roy
Trust me, installing fglrx also causes crash and that too frequently.
Seeing so I installed open-source Radeon driver. The problem is
something else. I don't have much knowledge otherwise I could debug
more.

You need to see this
http://askubuntu.com/questions/106499/flash-player-crashes-with-firefox-chrome-chromium
But in my case, the whole system crashes and restarts which is quite bad.

Referring to other forums, gives in-depth information , may be more helpful to
you.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7506398

Because of this issue, I could not install Ubuntu 10.10,11.04,11,10 and
NOW 12.04. C'mon !!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991399] Re: laptop touchpad vertical scrolling doesn't work in abiword

2012-05-23 Thread Tim
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Xubuntu 12.04

Abiword 2.9.2 (default build in Xubuntu 12.04)

Acer Aspire 7736Z-4088 laptop with ALPS touchpad

integrated scrollbar on the laptop works normally in other aspects of
Xubuntu, such as Thunar, other apps such as Thunderbird, Firefox,
LibreOffice Writer, etc. Only in Abiword does the scrollbar not work.
If I open a document in Abiword that is scrollable, the integrated
scrollbar on the right edge of the touchpad does not work in Abiword. I
can scroll by holding down the down arrow key or by clicking and holding
the scrollbar within the Abiword GUI. Opening the same document in
LibreOffice Writer lets me scroll normally with the touchpad scrollbar.
Behavior appears to be limited only to Abiword.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991399] Re: laptop touchpad vertical scrolling doesn't work in abiword

2012-05-23 Thread Tim
Christopher,

I provided debugging info, but don't think there is any issue with the
Touchpad, so have not yet provided info on your second request
(debugging touchpad detection). I have since come across other bug
reports on this same problem that indicate the problem is with an
unstable version of Abiword being used in 12.04. The problem is
specific to Abiword, and moreso, specific to the version of Abiword that
is in the 12.04 repositories. Scrolling (whether by touchpad or mouse
wheel) does not work at all in this version of Abiword. Thank you for
getting back to me.

I too am still experiencing the same problems caused by a regression on
upgrade to Precise. If I force 3D unity to be loaded on startup all I
get is my wallpaper after login. I can't see how this could possibly be
a different issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Roger Binns
I'm another user affected by this with an 8800GT that has been rock
solid stable in prior Ubuntu releases. I'm running the gnome shell
fallback mode. The current, current-updates and x-swat repository
versions all resulted in random crashes back to the login screen.

I've tried using the noveau driver instead but it increasingly loses its
marbles over time. After about 8 hours of uptime it starts flickering
random bits of random windows in random places on the screen, and gets
progressively worse. It also hangs the X server inputs for a few
seconds while doing this.

Consequently neither binary nor noveau driver provide a usable desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950950] Re: nvidia-settings does not remember settings, full hd monitor runs in interlaced mode every logout/reboot

2012-05-23 Thread Luis Alvarado
Tested a 9:10 TV, a AOC Envision Series 26' (I think is 26 or 27). Works
perfectly. This is the first non 4:3 that works at least for me. What I
think is this could be more of a Nvidia problem than a Unity one. I
would have to test newer drivers and also test this with Windows XP and
Windows 7 just to discard the Nvidia or Unity problem.

just disable the hook entirely for the release; I don't think it allows

#9 workaround works for me! Thanks a lot! By using gtf to get a valid
modeline and adjusting my xorg.conf a little, I was able to use xrandr
to set the proper resolution on startup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945441]

2012-05-23 Thread Kenxeth
Hi! I believe this was fixed by the following commit, which is already
part of the Mesa 8.0.3 release:

commit 93e94cbb48a679b7bf67594adb6f858526b37935
Author: Eric Anholt
Date: Fri Feb 10 12:54:25 2012 -0800

intel: Fix rendering from textures after RenderTexture().

There's a serious trap for drivers: RenderTexture() does not indicate
that the texture is currently bound to the draw buffer, despite
FinishRenderTexture() signaling that the texture is just now being
unbound from the draw buffer.

We were acting as if RenderTexture() *was* the start of rendering and
that we could make texturing incoherent with the current contents of
the renderbuffer. This caused intel oglconform sRGB
Mipmap.1D_textures to fail, because we got a call to TexImage() and
thus RenderTexture() on a texture bound to a framebuffer that wasn't
the draw buffer, so we skipped validating the new image into the
texture object used for rendering.

We can't (easily) make RenderTexture() indicate the start of drawing,
because both our driver and gallium are using it as the moment to set
up the renderbuffer wrapper used for things like MapRenderbuffer().
Instead, postpone the setup of the workaround render target miptree
until update_renderbuffer time, so that we no longer need to skip
validation of miptrees used as render targets. As a bonus, this
should make GL_NV_texture_barrier possible.

(This also fixes a regression in the gen4 small-mipmap rendering since
3b38b33c1648b07e75dc4d8340758171e109c598, which switched
set_draw_offset from image->mt to irb->mt but didn't move the irb->mt
replacement up before set_draw_offset).

Bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44961
NOTE: This is a candidate for the 8.0 branch.

I tested it on a GM965, and it seems to be working for me. Feel free to
reopen if problems persist.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991399] [NEW] laptop touchpad vertical scrolling doesn't work in abiword

2012-05-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 825624] Re: patch: added dead_hook and dead_horn to latin keyboard layout

2012-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
I checked with Timo Aaltonen about this. It seems there was some cruft
remaining in his tree when he built the original package which caused
these differences. The git tree (from which I built the SRU package)
was clean.

However, the cruft causes no harm, so I will upload a new package built
from the shipped package that leaves the cruft bits alone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Raceman
Who is working on this bug? In the information at this page it is
asigned to Alberto Milone. But if I look at his profile page assigned
bugs
https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+assignedbugs?search=Search&field.status=In%20Progress&orderby=-importance&start=0
, it is not visible in the list and only lower heat bugs are in
progress.

I don't have the idea someone is looking into it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Reason
@jfleach
No, this is not the same issue, the X-server crash results in a lost session
setting you back to the login screen.
The 30x.xx driver series has nothing to do with this bug, it's not even in the
repository.

@pelleke
I do have more machines running different kinds of nVidia hardware, I did not
encounter this issue with any other of them, but then again I haven't used them
for more than maximum 1 hour at a time either, so can't confirm there not
affected.

I'm using a Quadro FX 3800M on the affected machine (G92 Core) and it's
my daily workstation, I have another machine equipped with a 8800GTS 512
which has the same core, but still hasn't crashed, but again it isn't
used a lot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555169] Re: [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X (after upgrade? bad-upgrade to lucid)

2012-05-23 Thread Gábor Péntek
Hi!

I had the same problem:

After doing a full upgrade from Jaunty keyboard and mouse were disabled
under X. I could ssh to the machine and after shutting down gdm I got
back to the terminal where the keyboard was working well.

After reading through the comments, I checked the Device entries in xorg.conf
It turned out that udev has some different naming scheme and the old device
paths were invalid. So for example:

instead of:
 Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse"
I had to write
 Option "Device" "/dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-3-mouse"

and do the same for the keyboard as well.

After this change the system is back on track!

Greets,
pentike

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003333] Re: Ubuntu snowcrashes frequently but with no obvious cause

2012-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
Plug it in to the network via ethernet, repeat the crash, then ssh in
and gather logs. Like you say, none of the logs on this bug report
reveal anything pertinent.

If you've already tried it via ethernet and ssh doesn't respond, then
unfortunately it's probably something deeper down than the display
logic.

You can check if it's hardware failure by booting liveusb images of
previous ubuntu releases; if you get this crash there too then your
hardware may simply be borked. If booting those does work, then a
kernel bisection search would likely be your remaining avenue of
exploration.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Pelle ten Cate
I am sorry about the issues you are having, but please, let's be
consistent on what issue we are talking about in this particular thread.
There are multiple possible reasons for X to crash, and it strikes me
that you clearly refer to another issue than the one described here. I
was having this issue (reported one of the duplicates), my X crashed
approximately every 20 minutes. After having switched to nouveau (the
open source driver), my box ran fine for two weeks without a single
crash. This particular issue seems to be related to my specific video
card, I have colleagues running the nvidia-current on other cards just
fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Igor Korcek
Not just Nvidia driver, also open sourced driver has problem. It
happened once with my ATI too. What can i say more - 12.04 is the most
buggy release. Even with Unity 2D i had some problems but after all
Unity 2D is useless for long work. Canonical can't complain about people
switching back to Windows or anothe distro. Don't take me wrong - Ubuntu
is fantastic and loved Unity but this bugs with crashing Xorg are so
important. I lost lot works and time with bug reporting... and really
don't understand why you guys started make 12.10 when you don't have
finished 12.04!

2012-05-23 Thread Reason
Needless to say, but i'll do it anyway, don't upgrade the driver within
the update-manager because it will tell you an update is available for
"nvidia-current" (just uncheck the checkbox) until this bug is fixed!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Reason
For those who don't wan to break there package management, I have downloaded
the 290.10 driver from here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/290.10-0ubuntu1/+build/3091666
Changed it dependency to "xorg-video-abi-11" and recreated the deb file.

Use "sudo dpkg -i nvidia-current_290.10-0ubuntu1_precise_amd64.deb" to
downgrade to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir

2012-05-23 Thread Chase Douglas
Hi Steve,

There's actually a couple more fixes for the remainder of the issues.
Since this package resolves some of the issues, I think we should accept
it into precise-updates. Then we can create a new bug to track the
remaining issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread Reason
Still crashing regularly with the 295.53, if 290.10 does not have this
bug the default software source (nvidia-current) should get rid of
295.40 and replace it with that version for now.

Again, this is a major show stopper for potentially every nVidia user!

Even though it's assigned to someone for a week now, still nothing has
happened, I'm stumped and flabbergasted this continues to be a problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003585] [NEW] Screen colors are incorrect with Samsung Syncmaster 460 screen and intel chipset

2012-05-23 Thread Gavin Bisesi
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Samsung Syncmaster 460 display with a machine with an intel
chipset, and I'm getting strange behavior with the screen colors -
everything is green.

I tried adjusting the screen colors with xgamma, and I could see a
difference with I adjusted the blue and green settings, but the red
setting appeared to do nothing.

lspci reports the card as 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel

However, switching to using the vesa driver for Xorg *has* helped; so
far there have been no crashes.

I did this by blacklisting "i915" and creating an xorg.conf, as so:

aquarius@faith:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-intel-sil.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
blacklist i915

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "vesa"

Section "Monitor"

EndSection

Section "Screen"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 188342] Re: keymap fr/oss: numpad '.' mapped to period instead of KP_Decimal

2012-05-23 Thread Lo_pescofi
On Ubuntu 12.04(x64) with french keyboard :
By défault the Delete key (.,) of keypad is interpreted like "point" (.). Is
uncomfortable when use mathematical application like LibreOffice Calc.
For change, to haveDelete key (.,) of keypad is interpreted like decimal
séparator. You need to change keyboard options like this:

System Parameter (ubuntu) \ Keyboard \ layout parameter
1)
=> Layout keypad "Obsolete"
=> Behavior of the "Del" key: "Default"
2) LibreOfffice Calc:
Decimal separator key: Same as the language setting checked (,)

The name of "Obsolète"is inappropriate !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-05-23 Thread Bib
Same bug here for my GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP 8x laptop requiring
nvidia-96. I don't care with 3D, I switched to Gnome-Session-Fallback,
but even with no-effects, the nouveau driver just displays rubish on my
screen. They have a 100-14-11 driver at nVidia for legacy video cards.
