[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1610434] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Trusty HWE upgrade fails to install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial
"This is because you didn't first upgrade update-manager." I figured something like that. I was convinced that it must have been an error on my part after repeating several more tests with no issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1610434] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Trusty HWE upgrade fails to install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial
I have no idea why I had that previous failure. I've since run two more tests. One was a repeat test beginning with a fresh install of Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.3 i386 (just like above) and it worked fine. I ran another test beginning with a fresh install of Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2 amd64 and it also worked just fine. I'm going to run one additional test beginning with 14.04.4 just to be sure, but I think that one failure must have been a fluke - or something I did wrong. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-lts-xenial in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1610434 Title: Ubuntu GNOME Trusty HWE upgrade fails to install libwayland-egl1-mesa- lts-xenial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1610434/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip
Ubuntu Trusty 20160217 amd64 is still affected so I doubt that a fix will land for 14.04.4. That will be problematic for less advanced users affected because both the Wily and the updated Trusty images offered from the main download page(s) will fail to work. To me the obvious simple "workaround" is to recommend using the archived 14.04.1 images that still use the 3.13 series kernel as these are not affected. The one caveat that those writing release notes and/or release announcements is when we recommend using the archived 14.04.1 images we must be certain to warn of ubiquity bug #1265192 so users don't inadvertently wipe out existing data. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1507255 Title: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1507255/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Looking at the 14.04.4 RC again this AM I find that the 4.2.0-29.23 kernel is OK, but this bug is present with 4.2.0-27.21. So this is apparently not so much an X bug as a kernel bug?? Not surprisingly this also affects the Trusty dailies based on testing Ubuntu GNOME Trusty 20160124 amd64 since they have the Wily HWE. So the flavors participating may want to mention it in their release notes, recommending that users affected use the archived 14.04.1 images. ** Tags added: 14.04.4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1507255 Title: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1507255/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1291574] Re: nouveau DRM GPU lockup, PFIFO unhandled status 0x00800000
I believe I encountered the same issue while working on bug #1412602 which is unrelated to this bug. In the process of testing the nouveau driver with an nVidia C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] chipset on Ubuntu GNOME Trusty with the Utopic HWE and 3.16.0-31-generic from trusty-proposed I experienced what I'd call a soft-lockup (I could still move the mouse pointer but all else was unresponsive) and after a minute or two the screen went basically blank with this message sprawled across the screen: [ 1206.026900] nouveau E[ DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon [ 1305.160013] nouveau E[Xorg[955]] failed to idle channel 0x [Xorg[955]] [ 1320.160018] nouveau E[Xorg[955]] failed to idle channel 0x [Xorg[955]] [ 1328.076012] BUG: soft lockup - GPU#0 stuck for 21sf [gnome- shell:1740] After reboot I found a crash report in /var/log/crash but it was unreportable, the details say: This problem report is damaged and cannot be processed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
** Description changed: I've been testing the Ubuntu GNOME Vivid daily images in anticipation of Alpha 2 and I noticed that with this specific hardware I get no graphics at all other than a blank screen (see attached photo): AMD Sempron Processor LE-1250 @ 2.2 GHz nVidia C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2) nVidia MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2) nVidia MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2) 2GB DDR2 RAM In fact I never even get as far as the screen offering to Try or Install, but I can enter the Advanced Boot Options screen and select either Try or Install from there, but with both options I still get the same blank screen. Further testing reveals the same results with Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME but I found that both the Xubuntu and Lubuntu images will boot properly on this box so I installed Lubuntu and then installed the ubuntu- desktop, ubuntu-gnome-desktop, and gnome-session-flashback meta-packages just to try some things. After doing so I found that the Unity, GNOME Shell, Gnome Classic, and Flashback w/Compiz sessions produce broken graphics just as the Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu live images do. So basically Compiz and Mutter both fail to display any usable UI. OTOH both the Lubuntu and Flashback w/Metacity sessions work just fine. I next opened the Additional drivers UI and chose nvidia-304.125 (current) and all DE's perform quite well with the proprietary drivers so I deduced that nouveau might be the culprit. The last known working Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME live images are 14.04.1. I hadn't tried Utopic on this box yet but it's also a fail. I'll try the proposed 14.04.2 images ASAP (probably after Vivid Alpha 2 is released). But I see no point in trying to fix this for Utopic (or even 14.04.2 if it's effected) because of the 9 month life-cycle for Utopic and the continued availability of the 14.04.1 images. In fact I'd be cool with this not being fixed until 16.04 as long as it's documented so people know what versions will and will not work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
OK I did some more testing last night and this AM, so here's a quick recap to reduce any confusion (both for others and myself): Vivid: This is fixed in 3.18.0-13 generic. I verified that this AM by testing the Ubuntu GNOME Vivid 20150215 amd64 iso. Utopic: This is fixed in 3.16.0-31 generic which is in utopic-proposed. No additional problems were encountered. Trusty with the Utopic HWE: This is fixed in 3.16.0-31 generic which is in trusty-proposed. The bug I mentioned in comment #19 was observed and I think it may be bug #1291574. I'll follow up on that separate issue appropriately ASAP. Trusty with the OEM 3.13 series kernel: This remains under investigation. I know that both the 14.04 and 14.04.1 images are affected as well as 3.13.0-45-generic. I'll also follow up on this ASAP. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412602 Title: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1412602/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
Regarding Trusty with the OEM 3.13 series kernel: This is NOT fixed in 3.13.0-46-generic from trusty-proposed. That can be verified because using the nouveau.config=NvMSI=0 boot parameter gets me past the screen corruption/X freeze. So evidently the upstream fix has not yet trickled down to the 3.13 series kernel.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
Sorry to take so long getting back to this. The affected PC is usually used as my media center but I've now been able to move it into my testing suite so hopefully once 14.04.2 milestone testing is out of the way I'll be able to respond more quickly and efficiently. Regarding the screen corruption in Utopic I've now found that it does eventually occur even running GNOME Classic but just much less frequently than in a GNOME Shell session. This includes both the stock Utopic kernel as well as the 3.16.7-031607-generic kernel Joseph Salisbury requested I try. So, moving on to Vivid for the moment - last night I installed Ubuntu GNOME Vivid Alpha 2 and this AM I booted it using the nouveau.config=NvMSI=0 boot parameter, then applied all available updates, and it seems to be running GNOME Shell just fine with the latest Vivid kernel using the nouveau driver: lance@lance-AMD-desktop:~$ uname -r 3.18.0-13-generic lance@lance-AMD-desktop:~$ sudo lshw -c video [sudo] password for lance: *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] vendor: NVIDIA Corporation physical id: d bus info: pci@:00:0d.0 version: a2 width: 64 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pm msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=nouveau latency=0 resources: irq:21 memory:fb00-fbff memory:e000-efff memory:fc00-fcff memory:8000-8001 So some recent kernel update in Vivid appears to have fixed this issue. Is there still any point in trying the 3.18.5-031805-generic mainline kernel? For the next 5 or 6 days I'll be shifting my focus almost totally onto 14.04.2, in fact my next two tests on this hardware will be 14.04.1 with the latest Trusty kernel and then 14.04.2 with the Utopic HWE.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
I was encountering some issues installing 14.04.1 which I'll get into later, but for now I moved on to testing 14.04.2, this one installed w /Ubuntu-GNOME 14.04.2 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20150203), and while 3.16.0-30-generic was affected I pulled 3.16.0-31-generic from trusty-proposed and it appeared to be OK for a while, at least I was not getting the same screen corruption. In fact I began a forum post from that Trusty install but before I was done the screen became unresponsive, but not entirely frozen because I could move the mouse pointer, then after a minute or two the screen displayed the error in the attached pic. ** Attachment added: Trusty_full_screen.JPG https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1412602/+attachment/4319358/+files/Trusty_full_screen.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412602 Title: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1412602/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
It turns out that both 14.04 and 14.04.1 are affected by this bug. I had to look in the installer log to see what version I'd begun with (and have been running on that box as my stable OS) = Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Alpha i386 (20140129). So I was undoubtedly able to install Trusty at that point but hadn't noticed a problem because I was already using the third-party nvidia driver after that date.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
Hi Tim, As far as I can tell ATM the only difference in most of these crashes/freezes/screen-corruptions is the frequency with which they occur and the screen color depending on what point during boot and/or operation the freeze occurs. Like this is the pic I included with original bug report: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/195348138/IMG_4796.JPG And this is a pic from Ubuntu GNOME Utopic with the amd64 version of 3.16.7-031607-generic (mainline kernel): https://launchpadlibrarian.net/196872607/IMG_4817.JPG The frequency of crashes/freezes (or the point at which they occur) is sometimes random with the exact same images. Sometimes it may prevent me from even getting to the live desktop or booting to the desktop of an installed OS. Other times it may not happen until I'm performing some random task on the desktop. Or it may occur at any random point during installation. It seems to affect Unity, GNOME Shell, and Flashback w/Compiz somewhat more frequently that GNOME Classic and I've not been able to reproduce this bug with the same versions of Lubuntu so I assume it's a load or demand related issue??? The one exception is 14.04.2 with 3.16.0-31-generic from trusty-proposed which may (or may not) fix this issue but results in an unrelated crash (see comment #19) so I'll check the changelogs and see if there is a tracking bug # to refer to. I'll then file a new bug report ASAP. But yes, this does appear to be fixed in Vivid w/3.18.0-13-generic. I will be glad to try the 3.18.5-031805-generic mainline kernel in Vivid also if desired. I should also probably test Utopic again and see if I can find the equivalent of trusty-proposed 3.16.0-31-generic since it really is part of the 14.04.2 LTS HWE for Trusty.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
I have been able to reproduce that a few times in a gnome-shell session but it's not specific to any one task. It crashed/froze twice just looking for logs and once again while launching Firefox. OTOH I can use the classic session w/o a problem - in fact I'm streaming the nightly news right now. I know that X actually freezes when the screen tears because I'd set Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill X and tested it in both sessions. When the screen tears as shown in the attached pic the keyboard is just totally unresponsive causing me to do a hard reset. There are no .xsession-errors in Home and I don't see anything unusual in /var/log/Xorg.0.log but there is also an /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old that I can't read. FYI sometime tomorrow I'll add some storage to that box so I can retain 4 or 5 installs at the same time. That way I can dig for logs and/or do some retesting without having to reinstall and update each time. ** Attachment added: IMG_4817.JPG https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1412602/+attachment/4314052/+files/IMG_4817.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412602 Title: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1412602/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
@ Joseph Salisbury, There seemed to be some improvement in Ubuntu GNOME Utopic with the amd64 version of 3.16.7-031607-generic, at least I was able to boot that kernel w/o adding the nouveau.config=NvMSI=0 boot parameter, but then after spending a couple of minutes fiddling around when I attempted to open the System Settings UI the screen tore and X froze. So nouveau is still a failure with that specific GPU. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
Perhaps oddly (perhaps not oddly at all) I decided to reboot and select GNOME Classic rather than booting into the standard GNOME Shell and it seems to work fine - no screen tearing or X-freezes under fairly heavy use. So maybe nouveau itself is simply not capable of running GNOME Shell. I find that a bit odd as I'd assumed both use mutter but Tim could probably provide some insight in that regard. I should probably try that same kernel with Ubuntu in a Unity session to see what happens. ATM I'm inclined to think that kernel fixes this specific issue, but that other underlying issues exist in nouveau itself which may actually be an Xorg issue beyond the scope of this bug or is it???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] [NEW] No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
Public bug reported: I've been testing the Ubuntu GNOME Vivid daily images in anticipation of Alpha 2 and I noticed that with this specific hardware I get no graphics at all other than a blank screen (see attached photo): AMD Sempron Processor LE-1250 @ 2.2 GHz nVidia C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2) nVidia MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2) nVidia MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2) 2GB DDR2 RAM In fact I never even get as far as the screen offering to Try or Install, but I can enter the Advanced Boot Options screen and select either Try or Install from there, but with both options I still get the same blank screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate
Just setting up my test suite for Trusty final testing and I see that we've moved the xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (1:0.3.1-0ubuntu2.2) saucy from saucy-proposed to saucy-main which is great. But we should now probably update the Saucy status from won't fix to fix released. Then maybe Maarten could change the status for Precise also. I see no reason why this shouldn't be included in the Precise daily builds, and I have Precise running the Raring HWE stack on the effected box so I could even try updating to the Saucy HWE stack after I'm done with Trusty testing. Thanks Alberto, yes it worked but it was sloppy on my end. The vesa driver does not work well here (too much screen tearing) so I had to approach this by installing Lubuntu Saucy and then handling the rest in a chroot, but the attached apt logs should show you what I have. I will not however give this a verification done until we see how it works in the Precise daily's with the Saucy hardware enablement stack: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/precise/daily-live/current/ Because we'll need to be sure that upgrades from the Saucy enablement stack to the Trusty enablement stack work OK in Precise when the time comes. ** Attachment added: history.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1205643/+attachment/4076652/+files/history.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205643 Title: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1205643/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate
@ Andrea, The 12.04 and 12.04.1 images use the same basic kernel and X-stack (other than bug fixes and security updates) so I suspect you're dealing with an additional issue. You should first of all rule out a bad disc/USB (depending on which you're using to install) by entering the advanced boot options as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Ubuntu_CD_Advanced_Welcome_Page_Options Then select Check disc for defects. That will take several minutes to complete, but unless it shows no errors found then you have bad installation media. Additionally a quick Google search shows that the hardware involved may be: Intel Celeron M 1.70GHz VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP 512MB RAM Have you upgraded the RAM? If you're still running with 512MB of RAM you can probably still install Ubuntu Precise but you'll once again have to enter the advanced boot options and choose Install Ubuntu from that menu. Or you may need to use the Alternate CD. Also DO NOT choose to download updates or install 3rd party software when asked, and DO NOT choose to automatically login. Some of the reasoning behind that is based solely on personal experience and goes far beyond the scope of this bug report. I also think that you'll likely find that Unity-2D is even quite slow on that hardware so you'll likely want to do something like this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1966370 In fact if you have or are willing to create an Ubuntu Forums account you could post in that thread and I'll be glad to try and help you. @ Andrea, Yes, 12.04.4 ships with the Saucy Hardware Enablement Stack: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack So those images won't work with VIA P4M800 graphics. I prefer using the archived 12.04.1 images because I have too many computers spread out over too large of an area and the original Precise kernel and X-stack is supported until April 2017 whereas the later point releases will require either upgrading to Trusty, or to the Trusty HWE stack by August 2014. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205643 Title: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1205643/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057120] Re: Ubiquity screen problem during install.
OK, I've been testing the Lubuntu Quantal 20121014 i386 image intensively on two sets of hardware, but I have not tested at all in a VM. On my old VIA C7 w/P4M800 graphics I can NOT reproduce this regardless of whether I choose Try or Install from the boot menu. But on my Intel Atom 230 w/Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics this behavior is easy to reproduce only if I choose Install from the boot menu. If I begin from the live desktop I can't reproduce the behavior on this hardware. It would therefore be interesting to know exactly what graphics chips are effected by this bug. Regardless the installation does complete successfully if you simply disregard the window-over-window behavior. From a testing perspective try this to see if it can be reproduced: (1) Boot the live CD, select the preferred language, and then select Install (2) Select your preferences on the first two installer windows. (I've only tested in English and with DL updates/do install 3rd party selected) (3) On the third window where you select the type of installation see if you can drag that window and recreate this screen blur behavior. Note: If choosing advanced partitioning the window-over-window behavior will be quite evident even w/o dragging a window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1057120 Title: Ubiquity screen problem during install. I first booted into an Lubuntu Precise and installed 'gnome-desktop- environment' which I know is Gnome version 3.0 rather than the Gnome version 3.2 + bits of 3.4 that Ubuntu Precise uses. Booting into a gnome classic (no effects) session uses 'gnome-screensaver' and results in this bug, but booting into an Lubuntu session which uses 'xscreensaver' works just fine. In the meanwhile the last bits of the new Xorg stack fell into place in Ubuntu Quantal proposed so I applied those updates, but no joy :^( Next I decided to try converting an Ubuntu Precise from using 'gnome- screensaver' to using 'xscreensaver'. It was a bit fiddly for me. I first tried this: http://www.howtogeek.com/114027/how-to-add-screensavers-to-ubuntu-12.04/ But that didn't quite work properly on reboot so I deleted the new entry in Startup Apps and tried this: http://www.liberiangeek.net/2012/04/add-enable-screensavers-in- ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin/ Sadly 'xscreensaver' was still NOT working properly on reboot so I opened Startup Apps again, noticed Xsreensaver was once again added, so removed and re-added it. No idea why but it then worked OK on repeated reboots. So that's just fiddly enough I can't recommend it as a work-around Regardless, once I had 'xscreensaver' working properly with the blank- screen option in Ubuntu Precise, I tried this with my KVM switch and all was well. So I'm fairly well convinced this is a 'gnome-screensaver' bug. The next step is to see if we can find something upstream (or side- stream in another Gnome based distro) so please help me search :^) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
I actually didn't spend much time at all on it ;^) I've just been battling some health issues and I did a very lax job of testing over the past several months. I've been grouchy too :^( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
I need to do more cross testing to be certain but this evening I was testing Xubuntu Precise i386 (20120801.1) and I don't see this. So maybe it's actually a 'gnome-screensaver' bug I'm guessing it's not limited to only 'xserver-xorg-video-intel' ATM but I really must do more studying. It is worth asking though if anyone has seen this on any other flavor of Ubuntu such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu, etc. I may try converting an Ubuntu install to 'xscreensaver' and see what happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
Forgot to mention this does currently also effect Ubuntu Quantal but I've been waiting for the last bits of the new 'xorg' to pass proposed before saying much.
Those of us effected definitely need to share some notes. I'm using a simple 2-port KVM switch with 2 sets of hardware: Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics VIA C7 CPU @ 1500MHz VIA CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] Only the Intel set is effected in Ubuntu Precise and Quantal, but it works OK with either Xubuntu or Lubuntu Precise. It also works OK with Ubuntu Oneiric. The old P4M800 is not effected at all but it may be helpful to note that when I open Displays in the Intel set it displays HSD 19, whereas when I open Displays in the VIA set it displays Laptop. Naturally it's not a laptop and the actual monitor is an 18.5 HannsG widescreen. But I'd think that Ubuntu Precise, Lubuntu Precise, and Xubuntu Precise all share the same Xorg packages, but certainly Ubuntu uses 'gnome- screensaver' whereas Lubuntu and Xubuntu use 'xscreensaver' --- I think! I may try downgrading 'gnome-screensaver' in a test install of Ubuntu Precise to see what happens, not that I recommend it! Doing so may blow things up badly :^( I'd very much like to see this fixed in 12.04.1, or soon after ;^) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
Just downgrading 'gnome-screensaver' was easy but also did no good :^( I'll see if I can figure out how to switch to 'xcreensaver'.
