Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion

2021-11-10 Thread gian

ok, so in the end I turned off the onboard BT and added a BT dongle...
no more stuttering...

One question left, I expected to set Squeezelite Audio output device
settings to Bluetooth Audio, but it's not in the drop down list.

However, everything is working nicely, so who cares...

I would like to add that the speakers are about 8m from PCP.

With v6, it worked fine most of the times, had a few hiccups but not
stuttering.

I wonder if things would work out better using a BT USB plug instead of
the onboard BT, but I think it would perhaps increase the power demand.

Hello All,

I had a PCP6 running fairly well with two BT speakers, and yesterday I
formatted the card and installed PCP8 from scratch.

The two speakers are paired and connected, but they stutter horribly.

no BT option to choose.

My LMS is on another PC, same LAN, no Phillips plugin.
Will check the logs.

When it freezes, it's the whole pi.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2020-01-29 Thread gian

Hello All,

I am trying to investigate what's wrong with this Raspberry 3:
PiCorePlayer v6.0.0-b5 | linux 4.19.75-pcpCore_v7 | piCore v10.2pCP |
Squeezelite v1.9.6-1198-pCP

The system has one USB BT dongle (BT on board disconnected), with two
identical BT speakers connected.

One acts as alarm clock, and the other is in the shower.

While at the beginning I was able to play the two speakers in sync, more
or less without hiccups, now I have to turn off one player (speaker) in
order to be able to listen with the other without interruptions.
If I do so, the player goes on steady.

I also found the player frozen a couple of times... but without log
files, it's not easy to understand what's happening.

Any idea about how can I troubleshoot these problems?

thanks for your time,

-Gian

Hello All,

I'm trying to have a decent wifi connection between two Raspi-3, one is
an AP, the other a Client.

Reading lots of threads, it seems that the problem lies in WiFi Power
Management.

Both machines are:
piCorePlayer v6.0.0-b5 | linux 4.19.75-pcpCore_v7 | piCore v10.2pCP |
Squeezelite v1.9.6-1198-pCP.

However, the Client accepts the command:

tc@spark:~$ iwconfig wlan0

tc@spark:~$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

while the AP returns "invalid argument":

tc@Fidelio:~$ iwconfig wlan0

Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:on

I am very confused..

Thanks for your help,

Here is the bridge:

tc@piCorePlayer:~$ brctl show

I think here wlan0 should be part of the bridge, but it is not

Is it a known issue, is there a workaround, should I move to v.6?

they are idenical Raspberry 3 B+, wifi connected, onboard BT turned off,

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-12-05 Thread gian

Hello All,

I moved to v6 because my current setup is two Raspberrys driving two JBL
Spark BT speakers, one in bedroom, the other in bathroom.

I would like to see if i can save one Raspi, and drive both speakers in
sync with just one.

So far, I was not able to pair the second speaker.
The first one works nicely.
I wonder if pCP gets confused because they are the same model.

Thanks for your advice,
-Gian

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 5.0.0

2019-09-29 Thread gian

Ok, it works.
I noticed that now the tab Squeezelite Settings/Audio Output Device
Settings looks overridden by the BT manu.
The result is that now my LMS sees TWO players.. one has the speaker's
name, the other the name I had chosen for the player.
I can drive both speakers with one Raspi, which is nice, however I have
to give up the flexibility of having two players and decide if I want
them both on, or only one (or play different music).
On the main page, the upper tabs show the speaker and the player, but if
you select the speaker, it goes on the player tab.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 5.0.0

2019-09-29 Thread gian

Hello All,
I have two identical sets of Raspberry, running PCP, and connecting each
with identical USB BT dongle to identical BT speakers.
I had the bad idea to move one from v4.0 to v5.0, and now that one
doesn't work anymore (BT Connect Daemon is not running).
I did it all over once more (prepare SD, resize FS, setup wifi, install
BT), but no, it doesn't work.
Am I missing something?
I would like to try some new idea before I revert to v4.0...
Thanks for reading,
-Gian

[SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezelite CPU at 87% while converting CBR->FLAC

2019-04-07 Thread gian

Hello All,

I am listening to Spotty, and noticed that Squeezelite is hogging the
CPU at 87%, steady, converting a 705kbps CBR to FLAC.
I wonder if it has to be so.

I use this entry level two core server for printing pictures on fine art
paper, and I had some crashes lately, after an Nvidia update, wasting
expensive inks and sheets.
Because the print is quite a slow process, I thought I'd install
SqueezeLite, to enjoy some music waiting for the print to come out.
I had some trouble to make it up and running, and I thought it was an
Nvidia driver problem conflicting with an USB sound card, however, now
it seems to work fine.
So I am starting to think that it might be a CPU problem.

Thanks for reading and commenting,
ciao,

-Gian

I don't know if it matters, however, one server is Intel, the other

This is the only thing I can think of.
The folders should be identical, if we can trust rsync.
Beside that, I always "clear library and rescan everything" to be on the
safe side.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 2 piCore players, same wifi MACADDRESS

2018-10-05 Thread gian

Somehow Michael is right.

I took one of the two Raspi away with me for the weekend, installed a
fresh Raspbian Lite on another SD.

I did not enter ANY command, just booted the OS, run raspi-config to
setup wifi country, and checked what was the output of ifconfig: the MAC
address of wlan0 was different.

When I rebooted with piCore, I checked the MAC, and it was the same, so
it looks like permanently changed.

I do not have an explanation for this behavior, but the information may
be useful for someone else.

[SlimDevices: Unix] would like to check PiCorePlayer CPU temp

Hello All,

my Raspi case came with a fan, which is very quiet, to be honest, but is

I would like to see the CPU temp on my PiCorePlayer, but I cannot find
lm-sensors in the PCP repository.

Maybe the library has a different name?

thanks,

[SlimDevices: Unix] pCoreplayer 3.5, WIFi, BT & other questions

2018-05-10 Thread gian

Hello All,

my scope is to build a reliable WiFi Raspi3 LMS headless client to work
as alarm radio clock, connected to a BT speaker.

I have tried Max2Play, it works for a while, and then stops for no
reason (apparent), so the chances to oversleep and be late at the office
are high!

I had ruled out PCP before, but now I see it supports BT audio.

I know it must not be on at the same time, but I have a USB BT dongle,
and so I do not need the on-board BT.

The onboard WiFi should connect to another Raspi acting as AP with
hostapd.

Is this setup supposed to work?

Last question, what is the difference between the standard install and
the Audio Optimized one?

thanks for reading,

-Gian

[SlimDevices: Unix] dead SB3

2018-02-18 Thread gian

hello All,

one of my SBs, a white SB3 with the old logo SlimDevices, died yesterday
and I'm very sad.

Last time it was seen alive, it was frantically rebooting each time it
tried to play something.

I tried reviving it pressing +/1 on the remote, but no, nothing worked.

Still, I cannot believe it is finished..

The power adapter reads 5.25 volts, so it should not be responsible.

Is there anything inside worth checking? a fuse?

thanks for reading,

-Gian

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SBS with BeagleBoneBlack

2016-08-20 Thread gian

I did some network tests loading iperf on both, server and player (in
this case a Raspi).

What emerged was that the bandwith was ok from the LMS host to the
player, but not the other way round: 45 Mbits vs 478Kbits.

I tested my laptop on the same cable, just in case, and it was ok, so it
must have been the BBB itself, or rather, the Debian image that I used.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Network test

2016-08-18 Thread gian

I've gone a bit further... I apt-get installed iperf both on the BBB
server and a Raspi player.

It looks that the bandwidth is ok from the LMS host to the player, but
not the other way round:

Client connecting to 192.168.2.20, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 43.8 KByte (default)

[ 3] local 192.168.2.52 port 38253 connected with 192.168.2.20 port

This is consistent with other hosts, so it should rule out cabling or
switch issues - if I'm not wrong.

I need to investigate the BBB network interface: any suggestion?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Network test

2016-08-16 Thread gian

hello All,

I am trying to find out why my cabled players do not pass a network test
at 1000kbps.

I found out this document:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Diagnosing_Performance_Issues

but my server v7.9 does not have this:

"plugin which helps diagnose common performance problems such as audio
drop-outs. The plugin provides ... a series of web pages which are
accessed from "Server and Network Health" in the "Help" section of the
main web page."

I do have a "network test" plugin from Triode, but don't think it can be
run on the server side.

bpa,

I'm quit baffled because my music library has not changed, players
neither, and they all worked fine before I replaced a "classic" tower pc
with a beaglebone black and an USB drive.

So, either is the arm install of LMS that has got something wrong, of
the bottleneck is in the drive...

looking for the bitrate I realized that ffmpeg is not installed on

Isn't it required for LMS? but on the other hand, nothing should work:
it doesn't explain stuttering or buffering issues.

I installed libav-tool (with a ton of dependencies) as suggested
alternative, but it still stutters, maybe less frequently.

Anyway, the web interface shows 608kbps VBR, flc

thanks for your reply, Jeff,

this stuttering concerns only local flac, radio streams correctly.

If we rule out Wifi, USB disk, CPU, and memory, it must be related to
the Flac codec.

[SlimDevices: Unix] SBS with BeagleBoneBlack

2016-08-14 Thread gian

hello All,

I recently replaced a tower pc with a BeagleBoneBlack, using a 3.5" inch
USB drive as music library.

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1470553729 @ Sun Aug 7 07:46:23
UTC 2016
Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: armv7l-linux
Perl Version: 5.20.2 - arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int
Audio::Scan: 0.95
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 3

It works fine with radio streaming, but have what looks a rebuffering
issue with my FLAC music library: it is impossible to use due to the
frequent stops.
Also, the web interface loads very slowly.
No useful info in /var/log/squeezeboxserver.

I checked CPU and MEM with top, but it's ok, so I wonder if the USB
interface to the disk is the problem:

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 332 MB in 2.00 seconds = 166.02 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 28 MB in 3.20 seconds = 8.74 MB/sec

Does these figures look good enough for a SBS server, or are too slow?

Thanks for your advice,

-Gian

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2015-09-23 Thread gian

hello All,

I know it can be done, according to previous posts, but I just cannot
make it work.

However, I set up a BBB with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, installed Squeezelite
from repos, but it will hang as soon as I start the process with the DAC
plugged in.

The console becomes unresponsive, and I have to pull the plug to reboot
the board.

I did not see useful info in the log (this does not mean there isn't),
so I'm stuck.

The DAC has been moved to a powered hub to rule out power supply
problems.

Still, no luck.

Squeezelite runs fine on a Raspy running PiCorePlayer and the same Arcam
USB DAC.

Any help or advice is very welcome!

[SlimDevices: Unix] multiple ffmpeg instances

2015-02-15 Thread gian

hello All,

here is my situation:

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1418370781 @ Sat Dec 13 04:05:00

Operating system: Ubuntu 12.04 server 64bit, Debian - EN - utf8

Audio::Scan: 0.93
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 3

In order to get BBC back working, I followed BPA (thanks!) advice and
installed his HSL plugin, checked the mime configuration of LMS, made a
sym link from avconv to ffmpeg and everything is ok.

BUT, it looks like the ffmpeg process starts multiple times, if I switch
player or station, and come back to BBC.

Because my server is always on, I am worried that the processes will add
up and make the system unstable.

I thought I'd post here because it looks like an OS problem, rather than
related to LMS or BBC plugin.

Thanks for your time and feedback,

-Gian

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] multiple ffmpeg instances

2015-02-15 Thread gian

Castalla, here is it.

My LMS is based on Ubuntu 12.04 server, 64bit.

You can find the ppa at:
https://launchpad.net/~jon-severinsson/+archive/ubuntu/ffmpeg

First, read About Installing.
This requires you to enter the command:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-severinsson/ffmpeg

If the command add-apt-repository returns a not found error, you have
to:
$ sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get install
python-software-properties
Repeat the add-apt-repository line.

Then you click on Technical Details On This PPA, and select your flavor
of Ubuntu, in my case, Precise.
You have to copy and paste the two lines you obtained:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jon-severinsson/ffmpeg/ubuntu precise main

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/jon-severinsson/ffmpeg/ubuntu precise
main

into the file sources.list, file that you can open with the nano editor
and the following command:

$ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Go to the bottom, and paste it with Shift-Ctrl-V

Save with Ctrl-X, Yes

Proceed with the system update:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Now restart the box with:
$ sudo shutdown -r now

I hope I did not forget anything, and everything's correct.

Ciao,

-Gian

EDIT - skip my suggestion. After re-reading your post I realize that the

thank you all for your support.

I have purchased a 2A power adapter, and done without the USB powered
hub.

Everything works fine with wifi DAC directly plugged on the Raspy.

I guess that's all it needed to work properly.

 Everything looks fine to me.

In the end I made it adding a powered USB hub and resetting the Output
information.

Still, there are strange issues, like the Arcam rDac not listed in
lsusb.

At least, it pumps music out, now!

It could be a power issue as the raspberry is known to have trouble

If you have a powered USB hub you could try to use that.

Otherwise, please try to select analog output and remove the USB-DAC,

Right.

Selecting ANALOG, Wifi is still working, the player is advertised on LMS

3. from the Raspy, I can ping inside and outside the LAN

I know nothing about the protocol that connects LMS with the players.
How does it scan for them?
Is there a way to troubleshoot that connection?
At this moment it shows three players, but not the Raspy.

If I do everything from scratch, burn the image on SD, it will work out
of the box, but adding the wifi will make the player vanish from LMS web
page.

Could it be an issue between the USB dongle the USB DAC?

about the protocol that connects LMS with players, if that is Upnp, the

ok, somehow I made it...

While lsusb did not show the Arcam rDAC, aplay -l listed it as A20, not
A10.

So I edited the setting and restarted Squeezelite: now the player
appeared on the LMS player list.

At the moment I am listening to BBC Radio 3, and everything seems fine.

Beethoven's 9th is on the air, just in time for An die Freude: how
appropriate.

Maybe the Raspy USB quirks have something to do with these troubles.

I wonder if the Beagle Bone Black could be more user friendly: I'd
really like to avoid the USB hub to cut down cables and clutter.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite

2015-01-03 Thread gian

Hello All,

sorry if I crosspost, but I realized that this was the place to post
when I had already started a new thread which I am not able to delete.

So, I burned a fresh image to an SD card, booted the Raspy with an Arcam
rPac USB DAC connected.

Everything looked fine, I was able to see the player both on the LMS
page and its own web interface.

Sound was working properly so the DAC passed the test.

Then I added an USB dongle, connected to my wifi access point, verified
all ok, I power off the Raspy to move it at my stereo location.

When it rebooted, now on wifi only, it did not come up on the LMS page,
however, the network connection was fine, merrily pinging all my hosts,
and replying to pings from LMS.

I tried forcing the server address and the dongle MAC address in the
settings, but no way, LMS cannot see it.

To double check I did it all over, and verified thatit works from the
freshly made SD card, and stops working when wifi is installed.

Any idea?

web interface, output with USB DAC from Arcam.
All was fine, player showing in LMS page, very good sound on earplugs.
I added wifi, set it up, looked ok so I powered off to move it to the
final location.

Connected everything, booted the little thing, wifi is the only network
and is ok, it shows the pCP page... but NO player on LMS.

I tried adding the server ip and wifi MAC address, rebooting, but no
way.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

-Gian

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer with wifi

2015-01-03 Thread gian

Did everything from scratch...

Burned SD card, the player shows up on the LMS page, as soon as I add
wifi settings, it vanishes even with eth0 connected.

Setting wifi off doesn't cure, neither removing the usb radio.

I'm stuck, because wifi is needed where I had in mind to replace a dead
SB.

Rest assured a wifi only piCorePlayer usually works properly. I use this

I confirm, wifi works fine.

As I said, the only problem is that the LMS does NOT see the player
anymore when it's on wifi, even if the server can ping the piCorePlayer.

Yes, I can ping it from LMS, and it can ping LMS.

Is there a way to force LMS to scan for players? or check player

Greg,

everything looks correct in the about page, SSid and password, and
indeed, LMS can ping it and vice versa, and its MAC address is
registered on the access point.

For some strange reason however, at this very moment, from my wifi
connected laptop, it doesn't reply to pings or show at arp-scan command.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] disconnecting SB classic

ok, have wired connected the SB3: I guess it defaulted on eth0 rather
than wlan0, at boot.

Anyway the wifi reports 100% as it is at one foot from the access
point.

After as little as one minute of playing, it rebooted.

Should I consider it dead?!

:-(

hello All,

I am trying to understand why one of my SB reports consistently cannot
connect to server, press right to retry.

Looking at the server.log, I found a ton of lines such as:

[22:29:13.9920] *** Playlist type: {

A warning is not an error, but what is this message about?

thanks for reading,

thanks Tcutting,

I learned a nice trick.

These random reboots seem gone, however, I have another issue: the
dreaded cannot connet to server, press right to retry.

While the player might have had a corrupted firmware due to the failure
of the power source a couple of months ago, I think my server is not
behaving very well.

I am posting a new thread about this.

[SlimDevices: Unix] disconnecting SB classic

2014-12-28 Thread gian

hello All,

I have a SB classic that stops working after about one minute of
playing...

I rule out wifi access point problems because in the same room there is
a SB Radio that works fine for hours on wifi.

When I want to listen to my stereo system, I turn on the SB classic but
somehow it will only play for a very short time.

Is there a logfile I can check to troubleshoot the issue?

Thanks for reading,

and best wishes for the New Year!
