Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce piCorePlayer 3.20

2018-08-09 Thread usc95

Hi Guys,

I am still using PCP 3.2 and have recently ran out of disc space on my
attached usb drive. Rather than buying another drive I figured I should
learn how to share a folder on my always on Windows 10 pc that still has
plenty of drive space. I have set up a shared folder that I can see and
add files to from my Mac but I cannot seem to get the folder to mount
with PCP. I get as far as being able to see it as mnt point in LMS but
when I browse the location it does not show any music files. As a
result a rescan shows nothing from the shared file. Would someone
please take a look at the screenshots and let me know what I am doing
wrong? I have input my username and password but did not include them
in this post for obvious reasons. Any help is appreciated...

Check your screensavers?

Are you sure you're controlling the right player?

Network discovery is absolutely crazy in Win 10. Sometimes it doesn't
show anything, then days later everything shows no problem!

Try this, right-click the windows logo bottom left of PC screen, select
"Run", type in "\\192.168.1.178" (without quotes, and replace with IP
address of your Pi).

You will be prompted to enter your username = "tc", and password =
whatever you set in Samba.

Good luck.

2018-04-04 Thread killie99

I'm in the process of moving my LMS server from my HPMicroServer to a
Pi3 running 3.22 but I've ran in to 2 problems.
1. I cannot get the correct USB mount point. On my USB drive I have a
FLAC folder in the root directory but I also have other folders in the
root directory which contain the same music in mp3_128kbps and
mp3_320kbps format. When I set LMS off to scan for music it finds all 3
directories rather than just the FLAC directory that I want it to
search. Here are screenshots of what I have set on PCP and LMS:

24865

24866

2. I cannot see the USB drive on my windows10 box. I have network
discovery enabled in the Win10 box. I can connect from Chrome on the
Win10 PC to LMS running on the Pi. I have set a password. Here's how I
have set up Samba:

And here's what it says when click on 'Set Samba'

Anyone able to help? Thanks.

A Yes that is exactly what I have seen too, windows used to (as you
say) only mount a partition it recognizes.

Well its either an update or we have the same prog loaded !

Its annoying, I tried Vmware ESXi on an sd card and got 7 (I think)
drive letters !

Thanks for confirming its not just my machine though

Hi Jeff,

Windows 10.

On Windows 7 and Windows 10, until recently, windows would only ever see
the first FAT32 partition. Somewhere along the line, my Windows 10
started seeing the second ext4 partition and prompting to format it. I
don't know if that is a result of a Windows 10 update or some program I
loaded. Anyways I have always ignored formatting SD cards.

I have a dozen SD cards that I just cycle through. I guess because I am
cutting a lot of SD card images during pCP testing, I automatically
follow the path of least resistance. Also I am always going from a new
SD card -> pCP image or old pCP image -> new pCP image.

Greg

done hundreds of images. So you don't need SD formatter. If prompted by
Windows to format a partition always say "no". The prompt to format on
Windows only started for me sometime in the last year, never used to.

I have used SD formatter only once when I have a corrupted SD card.

Copying a pCP image should take about 10 seconds, so the whole process
should take a minute or two.

Windows will only read the fat partition on the sd card and not the

If you check "This PC" you will see only one partition (after format and

Thanks guys. I am up and running!

Thank you particularly for the link for the SD formatter as Windows was
giving me error messages and not allowing me to format "normally." And
thanks to both of you for steering me to an SD card problem rather than
a networking one.

Solution (imo): When I burned the image to the SD card (G: drive, for
me), after it completed successfully I got a pop-up that informed me
that Drive H could not be used successfully unless it was formatted, so
I hit "OK". This apparently created a small USB drive partition on the
SD card which was totally unexpected. The third time I burned an image I
removed the SD card without hitting OK to format the H: drive.

I guess that was idiosyncratic to my machine or something. Sorry, I did
not check to see if there is now a USB H: drive partition on the
successful image. If it could be useful to know for future
trouble-shooting I could do that if anyone wants. If the creation of an
extra drive on the SD card is an expected occurrence, a notation should
probably be added somewhere.

Thanks again!

Since I have two pi's, a server (LMS) and a player (pCP), I figured
shairport needs to run on the player pi.
Not sure how it would work on the server pi if I have more than one

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce piCorePlayer 3.20

2018-03-21 Thread TomAmes

I need a bit of troubleshooting help. If this is not the right spot for
that, please point me to it.

I just got a Rpi 3B and hifiberry DAC+ pro. Imaged pCP 3.22 on a microSD
card (after formatting FAT32) and fired it up. The pCP has not appeared
on my LMS. My router (Asus AC86) recognized the pCP and assigned it a
DHCP address. When I load that address in my browser, I get an error
message that it refuses to connect. My network is very simple--no VMs,
proxies, etc.

I am guessing this is some sort of networking problem, but I am stumped.
Any suggestions? If so, please keep in mind that I have a very
rudimentary understanding of networking.

I have a Boom, a Duet with two receivers. They all continue to function
normally.

Ahh, ok, this all makes sense now.

Thanks for the tip, will give it a try.

I guess its not easy to change Shairport to use hardware volume
control?

Shairport will change the Digital volume of the card. If you do this
often, you should look at setting the ALSA volume control (-V option) on
the squeezelite page.

Put "Digital" (Without the quotes) in that field, then squeezelite will
adjust the volume with the Hardware vs Software control.

2018-03-20 Thread randytsuch

Hi guys
I recently installed PCP on a pi zero w with a hifiberry dac+ pro hat.
The DAC feeds a powered speaker.

LMS is running on a pi2 that's hardwired into my router.

I also enabled shairplay in PCP so my family can airplay into the
speaker from their iphones.

All of this working fine :D

My one issue is that the volume when I use PCP/squeezelite is low
compared to using speaker with airplay.

And I have been playing with different software with this setup, and PCP
is lower, the other software (volumio and some other stuff) was
comparable to airplay.

I can't find any settings that are off, I am using PCP for volume
control.

Can anyone think of something I should check?

Also, thanks for this project. IT ROCKS!!!

TIA
Randy

hi mcduman,

The routine "pcp_user_commands" only handles 3 user commands. :(
Modifying the code yourself will probably cause you pain in the future
because an upgrade will wipeout your edits. I recommend just calling a

suggested by others.

Thanks Greg,

To add one more user command, I am changing
/home/tc/www/cgi-bin/do_rebootstuff.sh to read:

if [ x"" != x"$USER_COMMAND_1" ] || [ x"" != x"$USER_COMMAND_2" ] || [

echo -n "${BLUE}Starting user commands... ${NORMAL}"

and adding

USER_COMMAND_4="" to /usr/local/sbin/config.cfg

I believe it is possible. I don't have any DSD files myself so I have
never tried. (I should at least have a couple of examples for
testing!!)

You can search back in the pCP threads or wait for a kind person to
respond.

I know Paul has added more DSD functionality in the next version of
pCP.

regards
Greg

Another question, is there an option to turn on or something to install
in order to play DSD files?
At the moment I'm getting an error message[image:

That looks like the same case as mine.

Mine is a hifiberry DAC+, the pi screen has it's own 5v power in socket,
I use 2 x 2.5amp power supplies one for the pi, one for the screen
(arrowed in pic below), but you could use a "Y" splitter cable (which I
do in my garage set-up). This frees up the pins for the HAT.

I need to leave the case's back off though.

If the Chord is your DAC, what I would do is put a hifiberry digi+ or a
Allo Digione on the rpi, and feed spdif to your Cord. That setup would
completely take USB out of play.

However, there is alot of USB tinkering that can be done, and it also
makes a difference as to the Alsa output device. There is a section on
the tweeks page which lets you tune the USB FIQ handler, which can help
many usb devices. Also what Alsa output is on the squeezelite page.
Take a look at this list for clues.
https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home/List-of-USB-DACs And
if you get a good setup, please feel free to list your settings.

I've been recommended to use it with my DAC. As"apparently" the RPI USB
port is not the best in direct for audio. Same for my DAC (Chord Qute

At the moment, it does work but the sound quality is not as good as my

I suspect that the lirc files are only for the IR version of the remote
I was only asking about the IR version but reading between the lines the

Got my Picoreplayer back up and running now that sourceforge is back up.
Made sure both Simple mixer controls were checked, didn't have the .80
checked before. For now left DSP filter at FIR setting, I'll see what
the others do tomorrow. Also got alsa mixer installed, but haven't
changed anything from the default flat settings. I think the
Picoreplayer Pi 3 model B with hifiberry DAC+ Pro just might be a little
more quiet (volume) than the receiver. I'm calling it good for now.

As far as a new version of pCp, there are a bunch of us out here who

Setting the password can be a little confusing.

1) Install Samba
2) Set server name, workgroup and shared name/directory
3) Make sure server is running
4) Set password.

When you connect to the share, you will need to specify the username as
"tc" with the password you just set.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce piCorePlayer 3.20

2018-03-03 Thread Toonie

Hi,

Another plea of help I'm afraid :-( I've been running PCP V3.22 since
it was released, and generally I've very happy. Certainly very stable.
So very well done!!

I have a Pi 2 B+ connected via ethernet, with fixed IP addr which has
the LMS server running, as well as 3 Pi Zero Ws connected into it. My
issue concerns Samba. I have it installed and am trying to set up a
share and connect into it from a PC, to no avail.

My config is as follows:

Samba is running:
Server Name: PIMUSIC
Server WorkGroup: WORKGROUP
Share Name: MUSIC
Share Path: /mnt/USB/Music
Create File Mode: 0664

The mounted USB stick is formatted NTFS, and the NTFS file system is
installed, and I play from it fine. From my Linux PC (Linux Mint 17.3) I
can see the server name, but it always times out if I try and connect to
it. From a Windows PC (Windows 10) I can get a little further, in that I
can see the share name, but that's it. This seems to be the case
regardless of whether or not I have a password set-up. I also have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling Samba without success.

I'm sure that the share path is correct, as that is what's shown in the
LMS settings pages, and also I can see this when I SSH into the Pi. I
have also tried changing the share path to /, and get the same thing.

I'm pretty sure that this just worked fine when I was using an older
version of PCP (though I can't now remember the version number).

Any help gratefully appreciated.
Regards,
Toonie.

Ian, Thanks for the reply. I hooked up my Squeeze box receiver and it
sounds just like I think it should so I don't think it's a wiring
problem. Once sourceforge comes back I'll try the alsa mixer. Haven't
seen a karaoke mode so I don't think that can be it either.

Hi w3wilkes,

I found this issue as well. The extended SourceForge outage has
highlighted a couple of issues with our earlier code.

We are waiting to release the next version of piCorePlayer before we do
any more code changes. Unfortunately the SourceForge issues prevents us
from doing proper testing and releasing a new version. I learnt a
valuable lesson last week about pressing on without a proper test
environment.

The simplest solution for you is to just burn another image onto the SD
card.

regards
Greg

So GPIO 13/ pin 33 is used to toggle the power. We could use the
python scripts to do this, but then we need to install python...

I'm thinking that SqueezeButtonPi Daemon would be perfectly suited for
this. It already is setup for monitoring GPIO and could be easily
modified to launch a shutdown command. I'll have to look into this.

Dumb question... I told picoreplayer to update squeezelite. It failed
because sourceforge is down. Now my picoreplayer has no squeezelite. Any
remedy other than waiting on sourceforge?

There is the ALSA 10 Band Equalizer which is available from the 'Tweaks'
tab of the webUI (need to be in advanced or beta mode, available at
bottom of browser window). I've only played with it myself but it does
work.

However, if the vocals really are that 'low' compared with what you
would expect, I'm wondering if there's something other the equalisation
wrong. Vocals are usually recorded so that they come in the middle of
the stereo field, which means that they usually come out of both
speakers equally. Sometimes if one channel is out of phase then anything
placed centrally (including vocals) in the mix can seem to be at reduced
volume compared with other stuff which may be mixed more to the left or
right in the stereo field. Some mp3 players have a Karaoke mode which
does this on purpose. Is it possible that the HiFiberry has a setting
somewhere that inverts the phase of one channel? I'm assuming that the
rest of the system is properly wired up with regards to phase.

2018-03-01 Thread w3wilkes

I built a PiCorePlayer using a Raspberry Pi 3 model B and Hifiberry DAC+
Pro. Went together without a hitch. Installed Picoreplayer 3.22 (not
audio) and that went well. I've now got it all working on my wifi
network, but I have an audio problem. For the most part it's great (by
this I mean the sound is clean with no audible distortion), but volume
isn't what my Squeezebox receiver was and vocal frequency range seems to
be very lacking from what I'm used to. I have volume set to 100% in
Squeezelite, but have changed nothing else. How do I go about applying
some equalizer settings to bring up the vocal range? And maybe a little
more in the high end, bass is fine. My amp really has no tone control or
I'd adjust it there. My best shot at editing anything not modifyable via
the webUI for squeezelite or picoreplayer would be to remove the card
and edit on my Win10 PC and put the card back in the Pi player. I found
this over on volumio.org that sounds like what I've got going on, but

That package at this link is just some python scripts that mostly wont
apply to pCP. There is nothing in the source that describes how the
power button is connected.
