[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Calc issue

2024-07-24 Thread David Cash
Hi

I really like LibreOffice and have had no problems until I tried to reopen
a spreadsheet and I got this message:

*Read Error.Format error discovered in the file in sub-document content.xml
at 2,109276(row,col).*

I have opened, edited and resaved this spreadsheet many times before and
it's been fine, but now, all of a sudden, it isn't.

If I sent you the file, would you be able to look into it and find out why
this happened?

Many thanks

David

[libreoffice-users] New user trying to create an account but 'invalid username'?

2024-07-10 Thread David Deeks
Hi there

I have just moved to Libre from Apache and want to set up an account for
support but unable to do so as keep being told usernames invalid - have tried

Thanks

[libreoffice-users] XLOOKUP in LibreOffice 24.8

2024-04-10 Thread David Lynch
The help for this function
<https://help.libreoffice.org/master/en-US/text/scalc/01/func_xlookup.html>
states "XLOOKUP function is a modern and flexible replacement for older
functions like VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and LOOKUP."
However, it states merely that it supports "wildcards (* ?) for partial
matches", whereas the older functions support (the full set of) regular
expressions.
Please can XLOOKUP (and similar new functions) support the full set of
regular expressions?

2023-11-14 Thread Jose David Alcantara
Thanks for the advice. I use windows 10. When I open a blank LO is gives me
the said message when I try to save it.

I tried and tried. SWitched to OpenOffice and I can do the changes without
the said Message. LOL. I like LO (dont know why exactly, perhaps its more
intuitive for me) but OO is good enough for now. Thanks.

[libreoffice-users] I paid for my Libre Office

2023-11-13 Thread Jose David Alcantara
Dear LO,11 13 23

I am getting this message and cannot really use my LO Writer:

The lock file could not be created for exclusive access by LibreOffice, due
to missing permission to create a lock file on that file location or lack
of free disk space.

Do you have an easy way to 1) understand this 2) get around this ?

It is important.

[libreoffice-users] Accessing character formats in calc

2023-07-24 Thread David Lynch
I have data in a spreadsheet from an external source. Some characters
within a word are formatted differently from others (for example by size of
font). Is there a way to find out how each character is formatted (I
presume by a macro call)?

I have tried copying each character into a separate cell, but that destroys
the distinctive formatting.

[libreoffice-users] Calc - Can't highlight a column and set background shading

2023-07-02 Thread David Carter
Been using Open Office and then LibreOffice since 1993.  Used to use
Bugzilla occasionally in the past.
. . . This is my first post to this mailing list, to seek support from
the community.

I have a spreadsheet I've been using for 3 years.  I modify it occasionally.

I have previously selected a column and clicked the "background
highlight" icon with color of yellow selected - that would turn the
entire column yellow - it no longer works!

I suspect I "thrashed around" and changed something about the Toolbars
that has caused this problem.

I just uninstalled and re-installed Libre Office on my Windows 7
Professional desktop computer - LibreOffice 7.5.4.2.  I did this to get
away from any "unintended" changes I may have made.  It did not fix any
of the problems noted in the next paragraph.

I also seem to have changed how the toolbars display:  They have the
"system blue" background color, the icons seem larger or different, and
the "background highlight" tool seems to be different - has black "ab"
over yellow line.  See attached screen shot.
*_. . . I can no longer highlight a cell or column of cells and change
the background to yellow._**_

_**_
_**_This is the problem I am reporting and for which I am asking for
help._**_

_*
Urgency:  I am "dead in the water" on my number one priority task.

Best wishes,

David Carter

[libreoffice-users] Limits in Calc

2023-01-11 Thread David Lynch
I have tried, and failed, to find an authoritative statement on the
limits on cell contents in Calc. I realise that going beyond any ODF
standard imperils portability of a spreadsheet, and that any limit may
depend on Calc version and operating system.

In particular, what is the longest string that can be stored in a cell
and used by functions such as REGEX

[libreoffice-users] Exploiting ScriptForge in Calc

2022-01-28 Thread David Lynch
I wonder if the capability in the new ScriptForge libraries could be
exploited. Several routines in there look useful, such as:

ReplaceChar  Replaces all occurrences of the characters specified in the
Before parameter by the corresponding characters specified in After.

ReplaceStr   Replaces in a string some or all occurrences of an array of
strings by an array of new strings.

Reverse Returns the input string in reversed order.

Sort Sort a one dimension array in ascending or descending order. Text
comparisons can be case-sensitive or not.

All of the above I do currently using existing Calc capability (without
use of macros). However, if the ScriptForge functions above were Calc
functions, the result would be easier to develop and less error prone.
(This is what happened when new functions such as REGEX and CONCAT were
introduced.)

I probably have enough coding skills to embed these ScriptForge routines
into User-Defined Calc functions. However, I am wary of doing this,
because some such code I have previously developed did what I wanted but
was too slow to be usable. And my spreadsheets already are sluggish, see
<https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144205> or
<https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144257>

Can I have  feedback please on whether requests for new Calc functions
such as those above are likely to be feasible and implemented?

Please, any tips on how I should write code to exploit these ScriptForge
routines in a manner that makes them speedy?

Not that I've been able to find. I also prefer to search columns

[libreoffice-users] Defaults in Find dialogue and toolbar for Calc

The defaults in the Find toolbar and the Find dialog are:

Is there a way to change the default permanently?

Is there a reason for the current behaviour? If not, I propose to ask

[libreoffice-users] Calc: Adapting row height is slow

2021-07-30 Thread David Lynch

I have a large (10 by 100) but simple spreadsheet.

When loading and, sometimes, editing it appears to take longer "Adapting
row height" than the rest of the processing put together. I am happy
with the existing row height and do not want it adapted.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate or speed up this part of the
processing?

[libreoffice-users] Regular expressions

2021-07-08 Thread David Lynch
The documentation

for COUNTIF gives the following examples, among others:

=COUNTIF(A1:A10;">=2006")
=COUNTIF(A1:A10;"<"&B1)
=COUNTIF(A1:A10;C2)
=COUNTIF(A1:A10;"<0")
 and these do indeed work.

However the list of regular expressions linked from the COUNTIF page

does not include the use of > and < as operators.

Neither does the "full list of supported metacharacters and syntax"
<https://unicode-org.github.io/icu/userguide/strings/regexp.html> linked
from the help page in the previous paragraph.

Neither does the page <http://userguide.icu-project.org/strings/regexp>
linked from the REGEX help page

Please, is there anywhere that tells me what regular expressions are
supported?

[libreoffice-users] REGEX difficulty

If I use the REGEX tester <https://regex101.com/>

with regular expression (?=(29|79|97))

I get 3 matches 29, 97,79, as I expect.

On the other hand, if I enter =REGEX("29791","(?=(29|79|97))",,1)

I get a zero length string.

[libreoffice-users] Unable to record macros

I already use LO macros which I have written using Basic. I tried to
record a macro using keystrokes:

>>>> From help file

LibreOffice can record commands executed with the keyboard and mouse in
Writer and Calc

1.

Open the document for which you want to record a macro.

2.

Choose Tools - Macros - Record Macro.

If Tools - Macros - Record Macro menu item is missing, make sure
that macro recording feature is enabled in Tools - Options-
   LibreOffice - Advanced.

You will see the small Recording dialogue box with just one button
   called Stop Recording.

3.

Perform the actions you want to be recorded in the document.

Press the Escape key to deselect an object, as the macro recorder
currently does not record this action by mouse click.

4.

   Click Stop Recording.

The Macro dialogue box appears, in which you can save and run the macro

5. >>>>>>>>>

The macro recording feature is enabled and all goes as in the help file
until I click stop recording, when I get no dialogue box. I have tried
restarting without success.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: suppress header/footer from page 15 onwards

2019-12-25 Thread David S. Crampton
Brian and all,

I expect that the technique of creating a Style for each sheet will work. As
it was this afternoon I didn't have the moxo to work through the Edit Styles
dialogs.

You asked what my clumsy workaround was: OK, with some shyness... but it got
the job done by 3 pm!

Select Sheet1 with an already defined Print Area. Check or make the Format
Page | Footer specify . Print! In my case I printed to PDF. PDF
looks good; save it as Sheet1.PDF

Now, the dufus: Return to the ODS; select Sheet2. Go to Format Page | Footer
and change the text to . Now again print to PDF. This will create
Sheet2.PDF. Looks good.

Now, paying the monthly Adobe "Cloud" subscription I have available the
"Combine Pages" functionality. Specify "Combine"; navigate and select the 2
PDF from above. Combine and it creates a "Binder1.PDF". Examine, close,
rename as desired.

Next month I will be asked to again update and publish this contact list. I
will work with page styles first.

David

[libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: suppress header/footer from page 15 onwards

2019-12-25 Thread David S. Crampton
Here it is 9 years later. I just encountered a need to have Sheet1 use
Footer1 (Sheet1 prints in 3 pages). Then Sheet2 use Footer2 (another 3
pages). With focus on either Sheet1 or Sheet2 to set 'Format | Page |
Footer ... ' changes the Footer to be the same in both Sheets. I worked
around it but clumsy and error prone.

Using v 6.2.8.2

[libreoffice-users] Can I stop Calc altering the formulas I enter?

2019-11-25 Thread David Lynch
In my spreadsheet I have several cells named with a single letter (using
Sheet -> Named Ranges and Expressions ->), for example "I" and "A".

If I enter a formula ending in "I" and hit the enter key, it changes the
"I" to "IF()", if ending in "A" to "ACCRINT()", I have to click the tick
button in the formula bar rather than hit [enter] to retain the "I" and
"A" as I entered them.

Is there any way to stop this behaviour and make [enter] act in the same
way as clicking the tick button. I have Tools - Options- LibreOffice -
General - Extended tips unchecked.

[libreoffice-users] Ask help about recent directories

2019-08-27 Thread David MartinezRamirez
Hi!

I would like to ask for a change in programming: "Open File menu item"

I need to be able to open a recent file by frequency of use (of
files), instead of (last used).

I have many directories and files to open and each time I need to open
a file, the directory is not the last one I used, and I have to search
for it manually, and it is too slow to find.

And also configure the program to remember the image directory (Insert
Image menu), because it changes also (Was it working good before?,
perhaps is my own computer...).

I hope this could be solved by an automatic program and improve the
user experience.

Thank you

Re: [libreoffice-users] I have been using open office, libre office and open everything since 1985

2019-06-30 Thread David B Teague sr

I started using StarOffice a ways back, then OpenOffice.org, then
Libreoffice since Oracle bought Sun.
I do not now have, nor have I ever had, stability problems, except
_sometimes_ when I install a new release over the old one.  Now, I
_always_ remove the old version before installing a new version. Never a
problem since.

I note that I need to install a new version.

[libreoffice-users] Poor preformance MacOS

2019-05-12 Thread David
Hi there,

has this issue been fixed already? See:
https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/94n2e3/libreoffice_so_slow_its_almost_unusable_on_mac/
No matter if I use LO 6.1 or the latest 6.2, performance in MacOS is
sluggish to the point that LO is virtually unusable. Scrolling is
sluggish even in small Calc spreadsheets as well as in Writer. Not the
mention in more complex spreadsheets.

I'm on the latest MacOS 10.14.4 and LO 6.2.3. Also tried 6.1.5 all x64.

Thanks a lot.

[libreoffice-users] Question about Installation glitch upgrading from LO 5.x to LO 6.0.6.2

2018-11-06 Thread David B Teague sr

Hi LibreOffice Users:

My system:
64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium
LibreOffice 6.0.6.2
off line help for LO 6.0.6

Installation glitch upgrading from LO 5.x to LO 6.0.6.2

Started Installer, process displayed UAC dialog.  I answered "Yes"

Installer proceeded up to a point, then failed, stating the installer
did not have sufficient privilege to access C:\Program Files\LibreOffice

I clicked "retry" several times to no avail, then backed out. A retry
also failed. In casting about for a solution, I happened to reboot.

Then I recalled that inaccessible files are sometimes removed or made
accessible after a reboot. I retried installation, LO 6.0.6.2 installed
quickly along with off line help

My Question: Should I have known this might or would occur?  And could
this glitch have been predicted and users warned?

[libreoffice-users] SOLVED was Re: Installation failure of LibreOffice 6.0.5

2018-07-24 Thread David B Teague sr

SOLVED: Installation "failure" for 64 bit LO 6.0.5

This Window 7 computer blocks some installer files. You find that in
file "Properties." Your mileage may vary with other Windows versions.

A fix for this:
Right click LO .msi installer
At the bottom find properties.
Click Properties
At the bottom of the General tab find Security, and this information:
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help
protect this computer."  There is a button "Unblock"

Click "Unblock"
This will enable the installer to start.

Notes:
6.0.5 took about 5 minutes on my machine to produce the UAC dialog. Wait
for it.
Total install time, about 20 minutes, including to install the 6.0.5
local help files.

Thanks to Brian Barker who promptly answered. He pointed out that I
fetched the x86 version from the mirror and that accounted for the
difference in file size.  I should have realized that. My lapse.

I removed the old version prior to installing a 6.0.5.  The installer
started, offered the usual questions, then failed before the progress
bar had moved at all. No UAC dialog offered. I fetched a second copy
which failed in the same way.

Next different mirror:
http://mirror2.layerjet.com/tdf/libreoffice/stable/6.0.5/win/x86/LibreOffice_6.0.5_Win_x86.msi
(us, prio 100)

This was substantially slower (15 min.) than the utexas mirror (5
min.) This file is only 246 MB compared to the utexas copy 262 MB.

This copy also fails, same mode.

'Net search results suggest the .msi file must be run as
administrator. I have administrator priv, but the UAC dialog isn't
offered when I attempt to run, as it does with every other .exe or
.msi file I have tried.

Shift - right click  offers option of  "run as another user" which
requires an id and password, but neither the administrator nor  my
account have password(s) set. The dialog refuses to accept
administrator as the user and a blank password isn't allowed.

But for the fact that a UAC dialog isn't offered when I attempt to run
the installer, I'd say this is a Windows problem.

In any event, you all know more about LO & Windows than I (at 81) am
likely to learn in my time left on this Earth.

Help, please.

Meanwhile, I'll reinstall the old version.

[libreoffice-users] Long comments in calc?

2018-06-02 Thread David Rakidzija
Hi,

what's the best way to insert long comments into calc? A floating window that
does not interfere with the spreadsheet itself would be best.
1. the built in commentary for cells seems to be buggy, sometimes wound't
display corretly, cannot be resized... unusable for me if it's more than a
couple of words
2. merging cells is not what I want. Cannot really edit the box as if it were
a text box and resizing seems difficult
3. Supposedly there is a text box function, but whenever I click it nothing
happens (insert -> text box)

I'm using LO 6.0.4.

Thanks for your help.

[libreoffice-users] Underlinng? easy. How do I overline?

2017-09-07 Thread David B Teague sr

Libreoffice community:

Underlining is a common task in LO, and it is easy. Control U. But I
need to overline (also called overscore or overbar), some text, in my
case digits. Overlining is common in scientific fields, and I use it to
indicate a shift, a motion of the hand, on double bass music.

How do I do this? I'd like to have a font, not unlike the underline
font. (I hope I'm not missing something here.)

[libreoffice-users] Distorted text when scrolling in Writer

2017-08-01 Thread David Burleigh
There is already at least one bug report about this issue dating back
to 2012, yet still unresolved:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58358
and I'm perplexed as to how something so fundamental and so annoying
can seem to have such low priority. I'm running Linux Mint 18.2
(Cinnamon), and the latest LibreOffice 5.4.0.3, and the distorted text
while scrolling (using Ctrl-downarrow) from paragraph to paragraph is a
very tiresome distraction to getting work done. So I'm wondering
whether other users of the same platform are experiencing the same
thing, and if not, whether there is a work-around -- a setting
somewhere that causes the text to be rendered correctly while
scrolling.

[libreoffice-users] installing 64 bit Libreoffice

2017-07-23 Thread David B Teague sr

Hi Gentlefolk:

I have 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium on a Gigabyte MoBo with AMD Phenom
II X4 840 processor and 4 GB Ram.

I wanted to upgrade my 32 bit LibreOffice to 64 bit 5.3.4 "fresh". For
32 bit upgrades, I have always (successfully) installed over the
previous version, but I was concerned about installing a 64 bit version
where the current one is 32 bits. So I removed local help then the 32
bit program. I then successfully installed the 64 bit version and help.

My question is, was it necessary to remove the 32 bit version? I found
no cautions about upgrading a 32 bit version with a 64 bit version in
the notes.

Thank you all for a wonderful piece of software.

Warmest Regard
David Teague

[libreoffice-users] Enhancements to Calc functions

2017-04-23 Thread David Lynch
The new functions, TEXTJOIN and CONCAT, have been a great help, allowing
me to simplify some spreadsheets.

Partly motivated by this success, I have asked for enhancements to some
existing Calc functions that I would find useful:

Comments (and support) would be welcome.

All these enhancements are such that existing spreadsheets would
continue to work without needing modification.

The enhancements are highlighted below (*** ... ***).

SUBSTITUTE("Text"; "SearchText"; "NewText"; Occurrence)

Text is the text string in which text segments are to be exchanged.
SearchText is the text segment that is to be replaced (a number of
times).

NewText is the text string that is to replace the text segment.
Occurrence (optional) indicates which occurrence of the search text
is to be replaced. If this parameter is omitted the search text is
replaced throughout.
*** If SearchText and NewText are both arrays, they must be the same
length: then each array element of NewText replaces the corresponding
element of SearchText. If only SearchText is an array, NewText replaces
each element of SearchText. ***

REPLACE("Text"; Position; Length; "NewText")
Text refers to text of which a part will be replaced.
Position refers to the position within the text where the
replacement will begin.

Length is the number of characters in Text to be replaced.
NewText refers to the text which replaces Text.
*** Text and NewText can be regular expressions. ***

MATCH(SearchCriterion; LookupArray; Type)
SearchCriterion is the value which is to be searched for in the
single-row or single-column array.
LookupArray is the reference searched. A lookup array can be a
single row or column, or part of a single row or column.
Type may take the values 1, 0, or -1. If Type = 1 or if this
optional parameter is omitted, it is assumed that the first column of
the search array is sorted in ascending order. If Type = -1 it is
assumed that the column is sorted in descending order. This corresponds
to the same function in Microsoft Excel.
If Type = 0, only exact matches are found. If the search criterion
is found more than once, the function returns the index of the first
matching value. Only if Type = 0 *** or Type > 1 *** can you search for
regular expressions (if enabled in calculation options) or wildcards (if
enabled in calculation options).
If Type = 1 or the third parameter is omitted, the index of the
last value that is smaller than or equal to the search criterion is
returned. This applies even when the search array is not sorted. For
Type = -1, the index of the first value that is larger than or equal is
returned.
*** If Type > 1, only exact matches are found. If the search criterion
is found more than once, the function returns the index of the Type'th
matching value.

VLOOKUP(SearchCriterion; Array; Index; Sorted)
HLOOKUP(SearchCriterion; Array; Index; Sorted)
*** Sorted does the same as the Type parameter in function MATCH. ***

The page margins are the same for all styles on the page, so I don't
see how those would independently affect the centering of the Title
relative to the other text on the page.

I don't know what you mean by Style Margins. When I edit the Title
style, there is no Margins attribute. There are "Indents & Spacing"
which have zero indents relative to either margin.

[libreoffice-users] Titles not centered in Master Document

2016-12-20 Thread David Burleigh
I have a master document in which the titles in the subdocuments do not
center properly. When opening the subdocuments directly (not within the
master document), the titles center just fine, but the titles are
displayed off-center when they are imported into the master document.
The Title style in both the subdocument and the master document are the
same, using center alignment. The only thing that is different in the
master document format is that it uses a 2-column page format, while
in the subdocument the page format is single column. But I tried
switching to 2-column format in the subdocument when opened
independently from the master document, and the titles center just
fine. It is only when imported into the master document that the titles
are off center. What is going on?

[libreoffice-users] Adding a field to TOC entries

2016-12-16 Thread David Burleigh
Is there any way to add a field to entries in a Table of Contents? For
each chapter in a master document, I want to include in the Table of
Contents, along with the title of that chapter, a unique identifier for
the sub-document that contains that chapter.

Also, is it possible to have a Table of Contents sorted alphabetically,
rather than by consecutive page number? I know I can make an
alphabetical index, but I think it would be cumbersome to limit that
index only have the chapter titles as its entries.

[libreoffice-users] Re-activating the Recent Documents Function in LibreOffice 5

2016-03-21 Thread David Dorman
For most of the time I was using LibreOffice 4, the system kept track
the most recent documents and I was able to click on "Recent Documents"
to quickly go to a document I was working on. At some point in the last
year, the function ceased to work. When I upgraded to LibreOffice 5 I
thought the function might return, but it did not. I tried to
re-activate the "Recent Documents" function by clicking on "Customize"
in the drop down menu under "Tools" and then clicking on "Recent
Documents" in the "Menu Content" box of the "Menus" tab, but from there
I could not figure out what to do to re-activate the "Recent Documents"
function. I would appreciate help if anyone out there knows how I can
get the "Recent Documents" function to work again.

[libreoffice-users] Default column width in Calc

2016-02-18 Thread David Lynch
I want to change the default column width so that when I double click
the divider on an empty column, the width of the column is this new
default value. Is this possible?

Here is what happens now.

Open a new spreadsheet, the default column width is 2.26 cm.
[cntl-a] Format->Column->Width... change to 0.5 cm (doesn't matter when
Default value is ticked or not)

Enter aaa in a1, ccc in c1.
Select columns A, B and C.
Double click divider.
Column B is 2.26 cm wide. I want it to be 0.5 cm wide.

using? I think there is some consensus that 5.0 may be a little too
"fresh" for an enterprise environment. So the still version of 4.4.5
may be a good base. Download this version and give it a go:

http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-still/

There may also be some value having a hunt around the bugzilla to see
if any issues are relevant to yourselves.

let it open the excel file. Then save it in odf (.ods) format.

Let is know of there are troubles with these steps, and please report
specific problems.

All the best.

[libreoffice-users] How to use LibreOffice to blur and save a PNG?

2015-07-10 Thread KARR, DAVID
I have a PNG image. I need to edit the image to blur out some portions that I
don't want other people to see, and then save that modified PNG image.

Is this something that LibreOffice can do? I tried running Draw and then
opening the PNG. I believe the "Smooth" operation is what I need. I can see
this in the "Filter" dropdown when I click on the image, but I'm not sure what
to do with that.

I'm guessing if I can figure out how to properly modify the image, I would use
the "Save Image ..." menu item in the context menu to save the modified PNG.
Is this correct?

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice's documentation (pdf and online)

2015-06-27 Thread David Allen
Hi All,

Sorry, but this is a rather long email. It's a loose compilation of
answers to the following four questions:

 1) Does anyone EVER look at the pdf documentation? If not, why not?

2) Does anyone EVER click the F1 key for help? If not, why not?

3) Do you see any overall issues concerning the documentation?

4) If the presentation of the documentation were to change to make it more
useful, what would it look like?

I've compiled them in a more easily readable format (rather than being
spread out over many emails) so that anyone can read through them quickly,
more easily see if anything is missing, and, as I said before, even repeat
what is already there. Again, I don't mind the repetition. Repetition only
adds weight to the answers. In other words, if you have something to say,
please say it.

Thanks for all the responses already given.

The following is compiled in no particular order.

(If you're going to respond, could you do so in a manner so that your
responses are easy to distinguish from other text. Email can look so
muddled here sometimes. Not sure how you can do that. Just a thought.
Thanks.)

Thanks,

Davidaa

 1) Does anyone EVER look at the pdf documentation? If not, why not?

I've been ignoring PDFs as much as possible; I dislike the way these make
it next to impossible to add responses, save in some usable form …

 1. I seldom look at the PDF documentation. Mostly I find what I need
through the F1 key, and also because I forget it's there until I go
searching for an answer online. I'll also go to the PDF when I'm trying to
understand an entire concept (like styles, which still are winning the
battle).

 What PDF documentation?

I can only speak for myself, I don't know what others do, but for programs
or devices that require documentation, I download the pdf file and print it
out, and put the document into a 3-ring binder dedicated to that
application. I would sincerely hope that the file would have an excellent
index. I am much more comfortable with paper documentation that I can have
in front of me while I am looking at the program on screen, or the physical
device.

1) Yes, I have used the pdf documentation from time to time, but don't
often have need to. Normally, only if I have a problem, which might occur
when I'm trying something new and unfamiliar; but most of the time I am
just using LO for the old and familiar! My first action in such a case
would be to check the menus; if I can't find what I need there, I try
searching more widely. It's not always easy to find what I want in a large
document, though; but it's definitely comforting to know it's there, in
case, and it has at times been useful.

I do use the Pdfs from the "Published Guides" pages. The main advantage is
that the index and chapter headings and such are all "clickable" to get me
to the correct topic very quickly.

I take Anne-ology's point about them being troublesome to add notes to (or
to copy chunks from) but the Pdfs are also in Odt format.

PDF? I'm not sure I know where to look for LO documentation in this
format?

F1? I use it often. It needs to be compartmenalized (Calc, Writer, Math,
Macro interface [UNO], ...) Its installation also needs to be better
integrated into the LO installation process.

HTML? I occasionally wander into this maze though I'm not sure how I get
there. I guess it's via a link someone posts on this list.

2) Does anyone EVER click the F1 key for help? If not, why not?

yes, but nary receive a response which answers my question(s)

Depending upon various factors, when pressing F1, one of five things
will happen:

1) Nothing happens;
# This happens when the help file is not installed;
# This happens when the program can not connect to the Internet;
2) A webpage somewhere on the Internet gets opened, and displayed;
# This happens when the help file is not installed;
3) The Index Page of the built-in help opens;
# When the help file in the appropriate language is installed, this is the
usual, and expected responose;
4) A random page from the built-in help is displayed;
# This does not occur frequently enough to me, to guess as to what is
causing this effect; 5) A page in an "unknown" language is displayed;
# This occurs when the help file in the language that LibO is configured
for, is not installed, but the help file in a different language is
installed;

A separate issue is the contents of the built in help file.

For some things, the help is current, and accurate.
For other things, the information is not just out of date, but will have
the opposite effect of what one intended.

I use the F1 key all the time. I came to LO after using Windows since it
was created and F1 is the first thing I do to get help on any program. It's
nice when it's context-sensitive, but just going to the built-in help is
sufficient.

It seems to me, the easiest way to get to help for Calc (for example) is
to google my problem and add "libre office calc" to the query.

If I had to guess, my guess i

Why would anyone make them not case sensitive unless explicitly

All spreadsheets had been case insensitive ever since.
Use the EXACT function for case sensitive comparison.

The calculation options do not apply to Excel files which is why you
have to reset this option every time you load the file. The Excel file
format has no place where this setting can be stored.

"All spreadsheets had been case insensitive ever since. " - I don't
understand this.

The OpenFormula specification says that comparisons are case sensitive
unless HOST-CASE-SENSITIVEisfalse.

Thank you Steve, Brian and Johnny for your prompt replies. I will work
through the suggestions and report back.

I should, however, make a confession :-) I used the word "Production" as
I wanted members to see this as a "business" rather than a "personal"
question.

In reality, Column A is the numbers of steps I take each day. Ten thousand
is considered to be the number necessary to keep healthy.

What I want, in simple terms, is to determine the average number of steps
I am taking every week.

Hopefully, this explanation will answer the questions reaided.

Using LinuxMint v17.1 Rebecca with MATE DE and LibreOffic v4.2.7.2 Build

I have a three column spreadsheet.

Column A. Date - The dates are consecutive

Column B. Production - The Production has a daily target of 10,000 units
and each production period is of seven days.

Column C. a formula every seventh cell.

Is it possible to construct a formula which will show in the seventh cell

1 reaches a production of 10,000 units I want this figure entered into the
seventh cell in column C. If days 1+2+3+4 total, say, 42,500 I want the

want the average shown for the actual days of production each seven day

Using LO v4.2.6.3 on LinuxMint v17 Qiana MATE.

I have two email clients on the computer. Thunderbird, which is set up
for my wife's use, and MessengerPro which I use.

LO has been set up to point to MessengerPro
for sending documents by email but does not honour that path, inasmuch as
it opens Thunderbird each time.

My wife does not have a user account on the computer and I have not set
one up as it would confuse her. She only uses the computer for email,
browsing the internet and playing card games.

LinuxMint Control Panel contains a Preferred Applications facility but the
only choices in Email are Thunderbird and KMail.

Is anyone able to suggest how I may solve the problem, please?

[libreoffice-users] Problem

2014-06-30 Thread David M Pelly

I am a Libre office user and have run into some problems.

I wanted to file a bug report, but found the feedback process overwhelmingly
complicated, and filled with jargon and code only experts can understand.

I went to upgrade my version from 4.2.3.3 to 4.2.5.

During the downloading process I ran into several incongruencies.

Simply stated; not enough information posted during down load process to tell
a non techie, non expert what is happening, what has happened, and what to do
next.

They are difficult to remember and explain.

The last problem I ran into, during installing was that I got a pop up saying
that I need to close file number 948, before installation can be completed.

How in the world am I supposed to know what file 948 is?

When you guys are making this software, you have to take into consideration
that people who are not experts, people that do not know anything about the
technical side of computers and software, other than to be a final user.

All programs have to be average non techie user friendly, and second nature to
use and automatic as much as possible.

Another thing, that just came to mind is, on the download page, you should

Sigh. My main disconnect was that I never thought to look at the bottom of the
window where the "Drawing" toolbar shows. Once I found that, these
instructions worked fine.

Thanks.

[libreoffice-users] [Draw] Confused about how to render rotated text

2014-05-14 Thread KARR, DAVID
I'm on Win7-64bit, LO 4.2.4.2.

I can't figure out how to render a short piece of rotated text. The
instructions I saw referred to a "text" icon. In the Draw app the only one that
comes close is the "Label Field" in the "Form Controls" toolbar. The later
instructions for selecting that for rotation just don't work.

What am I missing?

Jon upgraded from Kubuntu 13.10 to Kubuntu 14.04. In the process Grub2 lost his

of Windows.

I also upgraded but I think I use legacy Grub as my boot loader. In any case I
did not lose my Windows (Vista) boot option.

Any comments other than the obvious ones disparaging Windows?

Re: [libreoffice-users] gstreamer-1.0 vs gstreamer-0.10

2014-03-06 Thread David Ronis

Hi Vladimir,

Thanks for the reply. I have the same versions for the
gst-plugins/libav as you. The only difference may be that I built mine
here, while you may have gotten them from your distribution. (My
distribution is slackware which doesn't officially support gnome any
more).

As I think I wrote, strace clearly shows that my LO is looking ONLY for
gst-0.10 modules--no hint of any 1.0. I downloaded LO from the main LO
site and I suspect that it was built with 0.01 support only. My bet is
that your distribution's LO, assuming that you're using it, supports
1.0.

I've played with building my own LO, and there are configure flags that
allow on to choose the gstreamer versions. Unfortunately, the build
dies in nss-related code. If you're interested, have a look at:

   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75731

Again, thanks for the reply.

Re: [libreoffice-users] gstreamer-1.0 vs gstreamer-0.10

2014-01-30 Thread David Ronis
Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. In gstreamer-1.0 gst-ffmpeg has been replaced by
gst-libav (which is installed). My video plays on all machines using
mplayer and things like gst-play-1.0 or totem. When it works (on
gstreamer-0.10 boxes), the presentation is what these external tools
show.

Finally I ran LO under strace on a system that only has 1.0 installed.
I see various gst-0.10 files that came with LO being opened, e.g.,

"/opt/libreoffice4.1/program/../program/libavmediagst_0_10.so"

and failures for -0.10 related libs in the system directories. Nowhere
do I see any attempt (failed or not) to open a 1.0 lib/module.

[libreoffice-users] gstreamer-1.0 vs gstreamer-0.10

2014-01-29 Thread David Ronis
I have a presentation that contains a mpeg video. It works on some
Linux machines, but not on others. I finally realized that the
difference seems to be in the version of gstreamer installed: version
0.10 works, version 1.0 doesn't.

Other than the obvious installation of both versions (which causes
problems elsewhere, is there a 1.0 version of LO?

Any suggestions?

Hi Tom and James,

Thank you both for your replies.

First off, ...

I did go to my documents and found about half a dozen files down loaded.

So I double clicked on one.

And see that it has now completed installing.

1. My first suggestion is that you should have a pop up that tells us dummies
what happened and what to do next.

2. I still do not see "writer".

As for anything else, I need some time to study and figure this all out.

I have not really used any other word processor besides Libre.

I am running windows xp.

See and address the other questions and suggestions I have, as explained in my
first post.

Thanks again,

David

[libreoffice-users] Re Libre writer

2014-01-09 Thread David M. Pelly

I want Libre office writer,

I tried to download it from your website, which provided two green buttons.

I clicked the first one, the installer button.

I think I have the installer installed.

But your program does not give me the "libre office writer program" and the
facility to down load and install the actual "libre writer".

I looked all over for it and I can't find it.

Once the installer is installed, your site should automatically return me to
the page that gives me the button to download the actual "writer" program.

If it is there, I can't find it.

Please help.

[libreoffice-users] Help with libre

2014-01-09 Thread David M. Pelly

Hello Libre office Foundation,

I am using Libre office on Windows XP.

Firefox is my preferred browser.

I am not a techie.

Your products are not user friendly to non techies, non geeks. Not dummy proof.

My main expertise is email and websurfing.

And I do some writing on "libre office".

When I encounter something other than standard main functions I usually get
lost and confused.

Even explaining the problem that I encounter to you is difficult to explain.

But here it is:

The present problem is:

Some how, ( I think it is when I open or start up my computer,) I get a pop up
that there is a Libre office update.

So I click to get the update.

I get a webpage with two green buttons:

Without
going back there to that site to see what it actually exactly says,
because I forget what they are exactly, but what ever they are, they are
confusing, especially to a non techie, non geek.

I think one button says it is a downloader or installer.

The other is something else. ( It does not say, update software.)

That appears to mean that I need to use two functions.

One to download an installer first.

Then
another one is required to download the actual update software to the
installer, so the installer can install the software in my Libre
office program.

It does not say that, but it seems to imply that.

(Your
products assume ( and take for granted) that the user knows almost as
much as the actual designers and program developers. )

Now I landed up clicking on some buttons, and there was no windows telling me
what was happening.

As far as I thought at the time, I did not get the update. I was ticked off.

At
the same time: You also ask for donations. So I did donate $10. I
ran into some confusions there too, but some how it at least appeared to
 go through.

It is not entirely user friendly either.

That should be cleared up and made dummy proof.

So I went back to my work on my Libre office program.

And I still see the green something in the upper right hand corner.

I click on it and it says there are updates for Libre.

So therefore I thought I did not get the updates.

So I click on it and a window pops up and says that I have the 4.0.4.2 version.

I think that is the new update version. (Maybe I am wrong.)

If
I am correct, why do you leave that green arrow up in the upper right
hand corner, telling me that there are new updates available? After I
supposedly did get the update?

Those kinds of things drive me crazy!

I just thought of another problem/ suggestion:

Why don't you include an "undo" feature on the "right click" window?

That should be common sense.

Another one:

Some
how when I was doing a lot of work on libre office, I landed up with
some solid lines running across my page, which I cannot delete or
remove?

Why?

How can I remove them?

Another suggestion:

When
I am getting to the maximum data capacity of the libre window I am
working in, you should have an indicator pop up that tells the user
that that particular widow is reaching it's maximum capacity and telling
the user to begin a new document.

And
also have a clearly visible button for the user to send "suggestions
for improvements" or to report problems with libre office?

I hope I have explained my self sufficiently well, so that you understand what
I mean.

And I am sure there are other problems that I do not know of or don't remember.

RE: [libreoffice-users] Feature Request - Categories for special characters

2013-11-23 Thread David Gast
One additional idea. Have some method so that if you type a character, LO can
show you all fonts that have that character. Otherwise it can be difficult to
find
a font with that character. Bonus: This method would also let you see what
that
character looks like in different fonts. You may not think about checking some
font,
but it might have a great looking character (in your opinion) that you need all
the time.
For example, when typesetting computer code, I prefer a slash through the zero
so it
does not get confused with a capital Oh. (I know some fonts put a dot inside; I
prefer
a slash.)

Background: I have a program for creating randomized versions of tests.
The output format is HTML. I Insert -> File into LO so that I can get the
page breaks correct (by adding blank lines) and make a PDF file for printing
from a
computer that does not have LO installed. (Firefox and/or our printer s/w
breaks
pages differently in Print Preview and when actually printing. Very annoying.)

On a recent test, I noticed that the HTML ␣ entities did not get changed
when
inserting, so I had to hunt through different fonts to find that character.
That is, the
Writer document showed something like ␣␣100 .

Best regards,

David Gast

RE: [libreoffice-users] Feature Request - Categories for special characters

2013-11-15 Thread David Gast
I have two ideas.

1. Highlight the categories, so it is easy to tell where the category starts
and ends.
2. Allow some input box so you could type some substring of the characters'
names and get
all matching characters. For example, if you typed equal, all characters
with equal
in the name would be listed. (I do not know if the names are i*18n or
not.).

I also have a related question. Is the some way to sort using LC_COLLATE=C,
that is, the ASCII character set, rather than en_US.ISO8859-15 or something
similar?

Best regards,

I do not like the idea to remove characters or group them in another
way. The Unicode groups are well defined and easy to handle.

But I would like the idea of a user defined, "favorite characters" list
or similar, or even more then one, each for a special topic.

For your problem I think of this methods:
* Write an Autotext or a document, which contains all your favorite
characters. Open it beside your actual text and use copy&paste to insert
the characters.
* Use your OS to insert the character by typing the number; you need a
list of numbers beside your keyboard.
* Use a macro to insert a special character. You can connect the macro
to a button; I use the character itself as "name" of the button, so it
is shown on the button. So you can generate your own toolbar with your
favorite characters. For Writer such macro in Basic is for example (I
hope the line end are set correctly in mail transport):

Sub lcl_InsertCharacter_Writer(byval sChar as string)
Dim oDoc as variant: oDoc = ThisComponent
Dim oCurrentController as variant: oCurrentController =
oDoc.getCurrentController()
if
not(oCurrentController.supportsService("com.sun.star.text.TextDocumentView"))
then
msgbox("Only for Writer")
exit sub
end if
Dim oTextViewCursor as variant: oTextViewCursor =
oCurrentController.getViewCursor()
Dim oText as variant
If IsEmpty(oTextViewCursor.Cell) Then
 oText=oTextViewCursor.Text
Else
 oText=oTextViewCursor.Cell.Text
End If
oText.insertString(oTextViewCursor,sChar,false)
End Sub

That is the general method, and for each single character:
sub OE_Lower_Ligature
lcl_InsertCharacter_Writer(chr(clng("&H153")))
end sub

Here &H153 is the number of the character œ , &H is the markup for a
hex-number and 153 is the number itself, as can be seen in the special
character dialog.

Kind regards
Regina

It does not contradict my assertion. I did not discuss multiplication.
The answer is that it depends on how you multiply. You did not
state how you multiplied but I am sure you used the * operator.
Using the * operator, you will get 123. If you use product(a1),
where a1 contains '123, you will get 0.

Operators and functions do not work the same.

With Excel 2010 I made the following test, that contradicts your assertion.

A) Write just: 123--> That's a number (just to compare).
B)  Write : '123-->  That's text.  Sum(cell) is equal to cero.
C) Multiply: In another cell write a formula that
references '123 address and multiply by 1.
You get a number!

Check it.

RE: [libreoffice-users] CALC convert text to numbers

2013-11-11 Thread David Gast
Spreadsheets use the MVC (model view controller) paradigm. That means
that the model (how the data are actually stored) and how you view
the data are separated. You can take a number like 4.5 and view it
as a date, a date and time, a real number, etc. You can easily compare
dates because they are stored as numbers, not character strings like
"Monday, Nov. 11." Further, you can easily send your spreadsheet to
someone who only knows some language you have never heard of and s/he
can open it and display and compare the dates in whatever language
s/he has set.

The best way to see if a cell contains a number, text, or a formula is
to use View -> Value Highlighting (F8). (Does Excel even have this
feature? If so, it must hidden in the ribbon somewhere.) A zero as
text has the ASCII value 48; as a number, the value is 0, so text and
numbers are not equal. OpenOffice used to generate errors if one
improperly tried to add text and a number, for example. Along the
way, that behavior was modified to emulate Excel. (I prefered the
old way along with the fact that either OOo or gnumeric or both used to
evaluate -1^2 correctly--the mathematical answer is -1, not 1.)

I just checked using Excel 2010, if you change the format (the view) of the
cell, the underlying representation (the model) does not change.

   1. Type '123 in a cell, say A1
   2. Right click and choose Format Cells, then Format as a number.
(That is, change General to Number.)

The entry is still text. You can confirm because =sum(A1) yields 0.
Note: =A1+0 yields 123. (Also the text is still left justified.)

That is, there is no conversion.

Best regards,

David Gast

For me dealing with an extension, installing it, making sure it doesn't
conflict with something else was more effort than creating a column, using
Value() and then pasting special.

What's a problem is that in Excel even though it also uses the leading ' to
format text as numbers, if you change the format of a cell the conversions
happen without any problems. I want that same behavior in Calc because to me it
makes sense that the cell format should be the controlling factor for what type
of data is in a given cell.

Make two styles. Type the text using the first style.
When you are ready to print, use the second style
with rotated text. After printing go back to the first
style.

There may be some size issues, but you should be able to get around those.

When in doubt, get out a ruler and create a table.

Make sure it is set to proper cell size for each card.

Type/insert text. Rotate text.

It's a kludge, but it works.

In theory sending a PDF works, however, I have found that many files created
with LibreOffice and/or pdflatex print differently depending on the printer
used.
My guess is that it is a font issue because not only is the spacing off, but the
output looks like the worst font in world was substituted.

Note: Checking embed standard fonts in LO does not solve the problem.

  Hi,

and you don't have the possibility to send .pdf files to your clients?
In this case you are sure that formatting and fonts will be correct.
This seem to be very important, from my point of view, especially in the
case you have to translate to languages like german, polish, french
where you have a lot of special letters.

To have them all correct it is the only chance I think.

[libreoffice-users] RE: Modified Flag Set / No Changes

2013-10-22 Thread David Gast
Thanks to all who replied. Perhaps I was not clear. I am trying to find out
why the Modified Flag
would be set if I have made no changes. What objects can LibreOffice Calc
*silently* modify when starting
up that would cause the modified flag to be set?

While I can copy the files to a computer at home and try different versions, it
would not actually be useful
for my purposes (perhaps someone on the list wants to know, however). If some
file opened without change
in another version of LibreOffice Calc, then it might mean that the file was
created in that version. That would
obviously be unacceptable if the exam was to be done in the lab using a
particular version.

Unfortunately, the lab is public space (for many classes) and I do not
the authority to modify what the technicians call the "lab load" in
the middle of a semester. We will update to the latest version in early
January.

Hi
Perhaps you can help.

My students submit examinations done in LibreOffice Calc to a web page.
I bundle them up and download them to a Windows XP box running
LO Version 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff). In previous semesters, an older
version was used. There were no problems like this in previous semesters.

This semester close to one third of the submitted examinations are
being modified when opened by me for grading. I confirmed by

  1. Open file (usually from the Cygwin command line, but also from Recent
Documents)
  2. Immediately clicking the X close icon in the upper right hand corner.
  3. A message pops up asking whether I want to change, dismiss, or cancel.

I typed nothing, yet if I cancel, and then do a save-as, the saved-as file is
different.

I have two hypotheses.

#1)
RANDBETWEEN() is used this year in some problems, perhaps it sometimes causes
this
problem. I cannot recreate that behavior, however. Further, Compare document
shows no
differences, nor does oodiff.

#2)
Some students did work outside of class and the version they used is not 100%
compatible
with the version in the labs. My reasoning is that I found in one submittal (I
have not checked
all of them to this level of detail) that one of the fonts changed from
something like
"New Times Roman1" to "New Times Roman". (I used unzip and then a script to
split the
various files into lines so that diff produced useful output.)

Any advice? Is it possible to determine what LO is changing?

Best regards,

David Gast

Using LinuxMint x64 and LlibreOfficeVersion 4.0.2.2 (Build ID:

File opens without any problem. However, I cannot read it as I haven't

Looks as if it might be a LibreOffice/Windows problem.

Re: [libreoffice-users] the password of Libreoffice

2013-09-12 Thread David Stuckey
To the originator of this thread, I feel your pain and commiserate with
you. As to the solution... I don't know. I think the best answer I have
seen is to have a different password for every different type of file or
web sight, i.e. all write files or all calc. files...even they can be
individualized at will. Then keep a special file with a benign, password
protected, name that holds all the passwords. The secure password for this
file is carried around with you (until you have used it so many times that
you know it by heart.)
Of course, I inevitably forget to include a new password in the password
file!
By the way, thanks to all who replied to my cry for help with the
Formula/text difficulty in Calc.
Regards, David

[libreoffice-users] Formulas in text instead of result - LO Calc

2013-08-23 Thread David Stuckey
I have inadvertently turned on an 'Option' in LO-Calc that now results in
the text of any/all formulae being written in the result cell instead of
the actual result. Please can anybody help me to turn it off again?
Thanks, David.

Did that without problems.

O.K. Although I did have some trouble grouping all elements.

Perfect!

No problem.

Went without a hitch.

This is where I've gone wrong and I cannot figure out how. As I understood
it, on the stub and ticket of tickets number 2, 3, 4, I do what you suggest
above. Is that correct?

and then, as it will be a new page, the numbering will continue in sequence
until we reach the end of the records. Is that correct

> 7. Print as mailmerge (or form letter or whatever it's called) into 1
> document

I do this by Printing to file. The first ticket is correct. Tickets number
2, 3 and 4 are not numbered. It then goes to the next page where the first
ticket is numbered 2 and the other three are not numbered. And so it goes
on until the end of the records. Each page is the next number.

I notice that when I have Next Record highlighted and click Insert, all that
happens is a thin grey vertical line appears where I click. I would have
thought the words would have appeared. Am I wrong?

> 8. review the document and if necessary correct&repeat some of the above

I am at a loss as to what I should do next.

But doesn't in this case. Yes, have tried by selecting single frame and then
pressing Ctrl A to select all the others. Same result - doesn't select the
remainder.

> Is this related to the other question? If you have loads of shapes and
> text-boxes and things it might be better to copy&Paste those into a Draw

If you mean the one about Grouping, then Yes.

Did as you suggested but ran into some difficulties. Only the first two
lines of each text frame (total 2) were pasted into Draw (although the frame
was the correct size.

Then created the whole item in Draw. That was successful. Copied and
pasted to Write and found that I couldn't then enter a frame into which I
can insert a database field.

This is all tied up with my previous posting seeking advice regarding
sequential numbering of tickets.

What I'm trying to do is avoid the necessity of having to create the number
of tickets I need and typing the number on each one. At 100 - 150 tickets
that is very laborious :-(

[libreoffice-users] Sequentially numberted tickets...

2013-08-07 Thread David Love
I have been asked to design and print numbered tickets for an event being
organised by a Club to which my wife belongs.

Starting from the left edge:

(a) in the first third details of the event and a number. This is the "stub"

(b) in the remaining two thirds there is an image to the left and then
details of the event. This is the "ticket"

(c) each ticket has two numbers (both the same) printed to justify right on
the "stub" and on the "ticket"

(d) each ticket spans the width of an A4 page

(f) there are four tickets to an A4 page

(g) the ticket will be perforated between the "stub" and the "ticket" to
allow for easy detachment

(h) Designing the ticket is not a problem. But how do I ensure that the
numbers are printed sequentially in groups of two?

Is it possible to do this on LibreOffice?

I realise that it is possible to number each ticket on a A4 page and then
print it but as it is looking like 150 tickets that looks like a lot of
work.

[libreoffice-users] [base] Writing form trigger macros to modify other fields?

2013-06-30 Thread David M. Karr
Using OpenOffice/LibreOffice I've been building a small database with a
form. I'm now at the point where I have two fields (radio button pair
and date field) that are somewhat connected. When I set the radio
button to "No", I should set the date field to null, and when I set the
date field to non-null, I should set the radio button to "Yes".

It looks like I'll have to venture into macros to do this. Could
someone point me to specific current resources and hints that will help
me achieve this?

From a language point of view, I'd prefer to write Java macros, but I
can see the possibility that that might not be ideal for this
situation. Is it practical to write macros in Groovy? Otherwise, I
suppose I'll have to use the default, which appears to be a variant of
Basic.

From what little I can tell about how macros are used, it looks like
macros are not parameterized. You just get the ability to call a macro
on an event. I would think it would be very useful to be able to write
a macro that is intended to take parameters, like "trigger value",
"target field", and "target value", and that could be reused in any
situation where a new particular value for a field needs to cause a
particular value to be set on another field.

I would like to export my writer word completion entries so I can use them

Where are the accumulated word completions? If not in a file, is there a
workaround?
