A known issue with the latest 2.4 release.

If you run the application from the shell/terminal, it will run. I
have switched to the beta 3.0 and had no problems.

You would need to run this from a terminal/shell to get the
application to run (make sure what the application is actually called);

Make sure that the OpenOffice quickstart program is not running as

Quickstart is for Windows, no? Or did that get introduced to Mac
version on 2.3.1, as i sure don't see it 2.3.0...

I'm using 2.4RC the aqua version. I seem to recall, in a previous
X11 version, there was a starter helper running. That's what I meant.

Okeh. It looks like you're using the experimental Aqua version as
opposed to the normal X11 version. That bit of information would
have been nice to know from the beginning. I don't use the Aqua
version, and really can't help here. Since the Aqua version is not
yet advanced enough to be considered reliable, i can only suggest
you delete it and install the X11 version.

If you had read my last message to you, i specifically said to
reply to the list and not me personally. Since i don't have any
more advice for you, you'll have to go back to the list if you have
any more questions.

I'm using the Aqua RC4 version, and have had NO problems with it.

Apple changed something in the way they package java.

I've had to start using the 2.4RC* versions to get back to using base.

I do know, if I open a shell/terminal and run the same command;

sh /Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.4.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice

OO starts. If I try, and click on the icon, nothing happens. Even
though is shows when running ps aux

Any ideas as to what might be happening?

I don't run windows, so take this with that in mind.

In the AppData folder, is there the OpenOffice.org folder? If not,
then search for it, and remove it.

Under Linux OS X, I have had to remove that folder when I have

I think the safe answer to that question is, NO.

If you have apple works installed, or you may know someone that does,
export the docs into another format RTF/PDF/DOC so they can be read

I know this may sound disjointed, and I apologize for this. My

Any pointers on getting the FORM printable, and staying with the
ability to enter new data?

Thanks.

hmmm- There was a problem with printing forms under 2.3.0 but with
2.3.1 and the 2.4 developer build there is no problem under Win,
Linux anyways, I do it all the time and have setup others to do the
same.

Looking at the Community forum real quick however, there are a bunch
of folks asking about print problems on the Mac but not about Base
forms per si, rregular Writer files, and PDF's.

Can your brother print a regular Writer file without any problems?

If that is the case then perhaps try this.

Open the form in edit mode - Save a copy of the form as an odt file.
Now open the odt file and select ViewToolbarsForm Design
Switch into design Mode ON and open the Form Navigator ( from
this toolbar )
You have to set the datasource name and table names again for the
dataform controls here.
When done save your odt file, switch back to design Mode Off - you
should have your data and you should be able to print.

At least that is what I would try off the bat.

Not quite correct, but very close. Got me to a point where I stumbled
upon a way to get what I want (no I can duplicate the steps, at least
not yet).

Everything views correctly, and prints everything except dates times
(those show/view okay on screen). Not sure why the dates times will
not print.

Any clues on this?

Again thank you for getting me real close to the answer(s) I needed.

Sorry, no clue on that one.

The only thing that comes to mind is - When the SUN Report Builder
(SRB) first released to community testing none of the date and time
fields would print either - there was a back and forth in the Issue
Tracking system between the SRB developer and another responsible
for g SWText files format, if IIRCC. I don't really think it would
help as it was all about internal structures and nothing that you
would have access to at the UI level. - you could do a search in the
Issues Tracker for RPT: Date Field in the summary or something
close and find it I suppose.

From within any OOo application...

1. Select Tools Options... from the menu
2. Open the OpenOffice.org Base branch by clicking the small box
to it's

left
3. select the Databases item
4. click the New... button
5. click the Browse... button
6. find the database that is to be registered and select it then
click the

Open button
7. change the Registered name if desired
8. click the OK button, the database is now registered
9. click the OK button to close the options dialog

This information is repeated in the OpenOffice Getting Stared Guide

I have downloaded installed latest Open Office on new Imac with
Leopard for a factory document distribution system today.

I opened Excel and Word files created on Office for Mac Tiger,
on Open Office - the formatting

was perfect and all looked ok.

Is there anything that I need to know using Leopard?

Will there be a Mac Leopard version of Open Office?

Thanks,

OpenOffice.org 2.3 works just fine under Leopard.

To answer your 2nd question. Why leopard specific? Nothing is to be
gained by tuning to leopard, and leaving out the previous versions of
OS X.

In looking at http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/

Mac OS X Version: Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) [Change Mac OS X Version]

Within EDIT mode, I am unable to satisfactorily nor easily, get all

 Tools - Options - Load/Save - Save URL's relative to;

There is a bug report filed, actually more than one, but nothing has
