Of course being under consideration doesn't always pan out, but it was really nice to hear people be enthusiastic about our shows! I'm finding more and more people interested in original shows, but I wonder if the actor's strike will create changes that harm online episodic content distribution? Re: [videoblogging] Wall Color
OK... I really like the look of the new wall. I'll post some shots and some blue screen action soon. I have a couple of questions though... I'm getting a dark blue aura around all of my talent and props. I think it's because I've got a ton of light on the backdrop. What's up with that and how can I fix it? [videoblogging] Re: Wall Color
way back when i was working in tv studios chroma key blue had just been 'discovered'. nowadays we at dyna-flix use green - usually large fabric drops. blue is more likely to appear in what you are shooting - eye color, blue jeans etc. and cause problems. green does not naturally occur on humans. backlighting your subjects with a yellow light is likely to reduce the 'aura', or at least replace it with a halo. what 'color' light are you shooting in? fluorescent is green, halogen is blue, incandescent is yellow - if you play around with what color light you put where you could eliminate the halo. does your software have 'spill supression'? as to cheap light, we got two double 8' fluroescent fixtures made from porcelain coated steel ( a junkyard find with spare bulbs!) that look like something from a Star Wars set. we just stand them up against a wall, let them be part of the set. they make all my still shots look green, but the video camera white balance can handle them. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Ron Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: OK... [videoblogging] Screen recording software for Windows XP/Vista
Can anybody recommend screen recording software for Windows XP/Vista? For the Mac, I use iShowU, which is cheap and works really well. I intend to boot into Windows XP on my MacBook Pro and use the Windows equivalent screen recording software. My client doesn¹t support Macs on their network and I need to record clear video to show web pages for tutorials, etc. I¹ve tried using a video camera and the output from a switcher, but neither is clear enough for my purposes. The video I captured from iShowU is crystal clear and is exactly what they want. I just need screen recording software for Windows so I can join their network and record the screen. Re: [videoblogging] Wall Color
I don't know, because it's been a long time since i blue/green screened anything, but I would guess that if you've got a ton of light on the backdrop then you may be getting some reflected blue backlight around your subjects which might be causing the aura. I think the chromakey apps are pretty clever in the way they handle the edges of subjects, and this reflected blue backlight might be confusing them. I think this is the spill-suppression that liza jean mentioned. You could either try using a lower intensity light to light the backdrop - perhaps a few fluorescent strips to get even- ness. or backlight the subject so that the light aura around them is tungsten/fluorescent instead of reflected blue. i would imagine that this would help the chroma filter to recognise the edges of your subject. As far as I know, Blue is a better chroma colour to use for skintones. But I could be wrong. I would guess that there's a ton of information available via Google for setting this stuff up well. It's been some time since I've done any screen recording software, but if you can live without all the whiz bang features of CamTasia (and the high price) and just need screen recording, CamStudio is a good choice. If nothing else, try it out, and if it doesn't work for your needs, it's not like you've lost anything. Can't say how well it runs on Vista, though, I've only used it on XP. [videoblogging] using flip cameras for special need education?
my buddy, scott trudeau, sent me the following fundraising link to buy flip cameras for his alma-matter. i was wondering if someone on this list had a contact at FLIP? if done right, i think this would be an amazing pilot program! if you don't have a contact at flip, i hope you consider donating a few bones... i just chipped in $30. more info at http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=201954challengeid=18907 I teach with a special education teacher in a sixth grade Language Arts classroom. This co-teaching classroom has a diverse population of students from culturally different households, and students with diagnosed learning disabilities. In literacy(reading and writing) students who are challenged, whether they are special education or not, need various strategies to stimulate interest in literacy through digital storytelling. Having brought my own personal video flip camera into class last year generated tremendous interest in writing and filming their stories. All throughout the year my students are reading novels which the elements of a story are taught. The students need to know setting, characterization, plot, climax, and theme. I hope to accomplish an excitement of understanding the novel through writing and reading. By using the flip cameras to film characterization, plot, climax, theme or the stories the students have created to show connection and understanding of the book. Having flip cameras will provide excitement and an interest to write and read which will improve their literacy abilities. With your donation my students will have the opportunity to become successful readers and writers. My students need 3 Flip Video Cameras for digital storytelling. The cost of this proposal is $654, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment. more info at http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=201954challengeid=18907 noneck

Re: [videoblogging] Screen recording software for Windows XP/Vista
Hi everyone: RICHARD wrote: Can anybody recommend screen recording software for Windows XP/Vista? For screencasts or to alternate between screen and webcam, I just simply use ManyCam. ManyCam is software with it's own WDM-compatible driver which is recognized by most any video capturing software (Included and other than it's own). For just a still screen capture however, I just simply hit ALT+PRINT SCREEN and use Irvanview to do any neccessary editing (This especially comes in handy when capturing an active window). I intend to boot into Windows XP on my MacBook Pro and use the Windows equivalent screen recording software. Why can't you just use Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Encoder and set the bitrate to (Sake for the sake of argument) 700 Kbps.? Seems to me that would be a whole lot simpler than what you're trying to do as outlined above. Plus keep this in mind. Windows Media Player already comes pre-packaged with all versions of Windows. If your client doesn't support Macs on their networks, WHY make 'em install Quicktime on their computers and/or install a server that will stream Quicktime files when Windows Media A). Will do the job just the same (Despite it being an MS product) and B). Is all your client's network can apparently support? Is there something I'm missing here? The video will be edited in Final Cut Pro 6. Windows Movie Maker can edit videos too, ya know. [videoblogging] Fwd: [vlogeurope] VlogEurope 2008 practical info
Just to keep the list updated on Vlog Europe. Please contact me or Raymond if you have any questions, and sign on the Wiki if you can come! Cheers, Jeffrey -- Forwarded message -- From: Raymond M. Kristiansen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 2008/9/2 Subject: [vlogeurope] VlogEurope 2008 practical info To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello all, Here is some practical information for VlogEurope 2008 which takes place in Budapest, October 18th-19th 2008. == What is VlogEurope? == VlogEurope is a yearly meeting of videobloggers and vlog-interested from Europe and beyond. It took place first time in September 2005 in Amsterdam, and has since taken place twice - in 2006 (Milan) and 2007 (Heidelberg). This year, VlogEurope takes to Hungary and Budapest which is a dynamic central European city. As in earlier years, a central part of VlogEurope is to explore the city/area around it, and we got a few surprises for participants up the sleeve :) == Participation Fee== Thanks to generous sponsorships, VlogEurope is a free event to attend. == Transportation == As we have earlier discussed on this mailinglist, an idea this year is to book a bus to travel from France towards Hungary. This, however, turned out to be far too expensive so we are currently thinking of renting a few vans/larger cars. These vans (2 or 3?) would then departure from different destinations and make it towards Budapest, and back. Loiez Deniel has more information about this, but a suggestion put forward is to have one van driving from Amsterdam, and another from Lyon. Comments? == Accommodation == We have found a loft apartment in Budapest that has 18 beds divided into three rooms. This will be the VlogEurope HQ during this weekend Here you can read more about the space: http://www.lofthostel.hu/ We have reserved the 18 beds for the night of October 17th and 18th. This means that we check in on friday 17th and check out again on Sunday 19th. The cost of these 18 beds is covered with a surplus from VlogEurope budget last year, thanks to the sponsors BlogTV, Xacti, Blip.tv and TechSmith. This means that in addition to there being no participation fee for VlogEurope, we can maybe give you free accommodation as well! :) Q: Who will be assigned these 18 beds? A: It is a mixture of first come - first served and a priority being given to students or others of low income. If you already signed up at the wiki ( http://vlogeurope.com/wiki/index.php?title=2008_Participants ) - great :) Q: How do I actually sign up? A: Send an e-mail to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Q: What if I want to arrive earlier and/or stay later at this same place? A: Please send an email to Katie at [EMAIL PROTECTED] saying you are part of VlogEurope, and would like an extended stay. The max cost (4-bed dorm) is 4500 Hungarian Forints which equals about 19. You can see the prices here: http://www.lofthostel.hu/booking.html . Note: You will pay for your additional nights while in Budapest - everything at LoftHouse is done in cash. Also please make sure that you list your arrival and departure days here: http://vlogeurope.com/wiki/index.php?title=2008_Participants VlogEurope 2008 is approaching fast!
