Today we reviewed a iOS keyboard for our iPhone 4S that was fantastic! The
app (yes we said app) worked as advertised. It turns your Macs keyboard into
a bluetooth keyboard for your iOS devices.

Re: Want A $5 Keyboard again

2012-06-05 Thread Rob Harris
No, it still don't make sense, it doesn't say how it uses the Mac keyboard
to type on your iOs device. If it's purely an extended keyboard app, it
should say so, but doesn't. The blurb sounds fantastic without ever being
specific what it's about.
Yes, it mentioned it had a few unlabelled buttons and they were getting the
accessibility issues sorted with the developer, but wish they'd get the
basic description right first so we know if it's a can of beans or a speaker
rig painted to look like one.

RobH, unconvinced.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here uses My Tunes Pro and if you do, what do
you think about it? I was asking some friends of mine for alternative music
players with more features than the Music app of the 4S and was recommended
to get this one. It has cross fading, normalizing, and various other
features. Apparently it will make your music sound much better. Before I
buy, I'd like to get some feedback from the list. The link is below.

Rearranging icons on the home screen

2012-06-05 Thread Sandy Finley
Hi. I have tried rearranging icons on my home screen and although I am
sometimes successful, I find it rather difficult. I see in the Itunes
syncing info there is the possibility to drag icons around the screen,,
apparently via the PC? So I tried highlighting an icon, copying it to the
clipboard and moving it, but that didn't work. Does anyone know if it is
possible to do this with keystrokes using the PC, or am I relegated back to
trying to drag them around the screen?

RE: Apple wireless keyboard will not be recognized or connect.

2012-06-05 Thread John Riehl
It is possible that there are two devices -- say, an IPAD and an Iphone --
turned on at the same time in your house. If that's case, and your keyboard
is listed as being paired with both devices, the keyboard can't decide which
one to pair with.
I had this problem at a few months ago and it freaked me out until a friend
suggested I check to see if both my IPOD and Iphone were runing at the same
time.

Adding an event to the calendar

2012-06-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I'm trying to add an event to the calendar on my phone. The event
starts on October 16th. I can select the date and type in text for the
title of the event. I can save it and see it on the calendar, but when
I go back into the details screen and tap the all day switch to
indicate that it's an all day event I am bounced out of the calendar
app and back to the home screen and my event is not saved. In fact it
doesn't show up at all after this occurs.

I thought I was following the directions in the Getting Started book,
but I must be missing something.

Any help will be appreciated.

They are using the Apple BT keyboard, but this app os more for those that have
a Mac and an IOS device but do not yet have a blue tooth keyboard. Another
reason that someone might want to use this app is if they have more than one
IOS device such as an iPhone and a iPad. With this app they could simply use
their Mac keyboard with one of these. I think that it works well for being
able to use your Mac keyboard to navigate your device.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip. I tried navigation by heading and it works great, but
instead of swiping right I did a two-finger swipe down to start reading at
the heading that I selected. Still have a lot of exploring to do but it's a
nice app; I like what I see so far.

Hi, I got the appa nd used it for a bit. It has a nice layout and if you
want to quickly go from article to article set your rotor to move by
headings. Then when you get to one you want to read, swipe once to the
right and it will be read out. Very nicely done for 1.0 version.

Too bad there isn't a windows equivalent app. If it's what I think it is,

They are using the Apple BT keyboard, but this app os more for those that
have a Mac and an IOS device but do not yet have a blue tooth keyboard.
Another reason that someone might want to use this app is if they have more
than one IOS device such as an iPhone and a iPad. With this app they could
simply use their Mac keyboard with one of these. I think that it works well
for being able to use your Mac keyboard to navigate your device.

Hi, if you are referring to Store News, just choose a category of which
apps you want to review. When you find one you want to check out,
double-tap it and the info for it will open in the App Store. Then you
can see if it's still free or if you still want to get it.

Hope this helps.

Hi, no I do not. I got it yesterday and played around with it and when I
was searching for other free apps today I noticed it was still free. So,
it could be a few days, or today could be the last one. I use the News
Store app to tell me of apps which are free. It's around 90% accurate
meaning that occasionally I'll open an app from it's list only to find
out it's no longer free. However I love this Store News app.

Hello all, this app is free now and is Voice Over friendly. It will find
problems or areas of concern with your contacts. For example, contacts
with no phone numbers, duplicate numbers, duplicate or missing names,
ETC. I've played with this some and merged a few contacts and it's all
been done right. The areas I've seen so far are totally accessible with

Too bad there isn't a windows equivalent app. If it's what I think it is,
it's an app you run on the mac that turns it into a BT keyboard for anything
that will take one.

Today we reviewed a iOS keyboard for our iPhone 4S that was fantastic! The

 into
a bluetooth keyboard for your iOS devices.

integrating Google Voice with the iPhone guide

2012-06-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi all. I've gotten a few private requests to share my Google Voice and
iPhone integration guide. Right now I'm in the middle of updating it
with updated information and so don't feel comfortable sharing it just
yet. However it's almost ready and once it is, I'll post it where others
can have access to it.

Basically this guide shows you how to experience the best integration
with Google Voice numbers and your iPhone. It mainly focuses on
jailbreaking your phone, but is not required for everything.

Thanks much.

Hi, I got the appa nd used it for a bit. It has a nice layout and if you
want to quickly go from article to article set your rotor to move by
headings. Then when you get to one you want to read, swipe once to the
right and it will be read out. Very nicely done for 1.0 version.

In any event, I thought I’d pass this along for anyone else who may want
to give the app a spin and put it through its paces and see how well or

Re: Navigating Address by Address

2012-06-05 Thread Ricardo Walker
In a nut shell, yes. That is too much to ask. At least from the technology
currently in use. GPS often isn't accurate enough to tell us exactly what we
are standing in front of for many different reasons. If your accuracy is in
the 15 to 30 foot range, your doing pretty good all things considered.

Using 4Square

2012-06-05 Thread Eric SS
Raul, thank you for the suggestion. I have downloaded the app and signed up,
but now what? Can you point me to a tutorial or demo.

I am going to San Francisco next week, and I hoped to find something that would
help me to find a coffee shop or just to see what shops I am passing. Is that
how you see using the app? As you walk down the street, will it tell you what
stores or buildings you are passing?

As I am home the next couple of days, in a neighborhood, I don't really have
the chance to put the app through its paces before I needed. Therefore, any
help will be most appreciated!

For stereo listening, I highly recommend the Plantronics 903. They sound very
good for voiceover and even pretty darned good for music. Their shortcoming, as
I find with most Bluetooth devices, is voice. Whether it is giving Siri

Hi all,
Below is the URL for voice brief. Personally, I like it because it's a hands
free app. Once you have your chosen content set up, you launch the app and set
your phone down and listen. It makes me think of a book on tape or using Victor
Stream or a book sense. Hands-free listening why you get ready for work, or eat
your lunch, whatever. :-)
Enjoy!

Re: Bluetooth headset

2012-06-05 Thread Steve Robertson

How do these pair, ie, do you hold down the power button and volume up?

Thanks.

Steve

Original message:

Hi tootle,

Buying from the Verizon store may be pricey. There are many less
expensive options at Amazon dot com.

For example, the headset I describe below was bought at Radio Shack for
$75. The exact same model is available at Amazon for $30.

I use the Samsung 3500 Blue tooth headset.
It works very well and still lets in enough sound to get around. There
is a loop to go around the ear included, which I use. It can be used
in either ear.
It also comes with stereo ear buds that plug into the headset for
music listening. These ear buds do enter the ear canal and have a
noise cancelling effect, so I do not use them when I need to hear
what's around me.

It works with most, but not all apps, I think I have come across two
apps it does not work with.

About $30 at Amazon.
here's a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Premium-Cancelling-Bluetooth-Adapters/d.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Premium-Cancelling-Bluetooth-Adapters/d...

Note, there is only an on / off switch, a call answer / end button and
two volume controls. It can not control the iPod.
If you buy this headset, the charging port, which is also where the
stereo ear buds plug in, is on the end of the headset stick, under a
small rubber cover. I spent an hour feeling around for it.

Chuck

Re: Bluetooth headset

2012-06-05 Thread Chuck Dean
To pair the Samsung 3500 just turn them on, then go to settings, blue tooth

At least that is what happened to me.

RE: ordered that i phone 4s

2012-06-05 Thread John Riehl
The gestures are very intuitive; it takes a minimal amount of practice. I
recommend reading the section in the Iphone book you got that describes
them. There's a setting in the Voiceover section of Settings (Settings,
General, Accessibility, Voiceover) that enables Voiceover practice, so you
can practice the gestures.
A double tap is jus what it sounds like: you take one finger (or two in
certain circumstances) and uickly tap the phone screen twice. That's how you
open anapp or a menu.
Flicking right or left involves taking your finger and brushing it to the
right or left 9or up or down) the screen, kind of like you are wiping a
crumbs off a tablecloth.
Hope this helps.
I was very worried about the gestures too, but they are easy to learn and
Voiceover is very helpful in its verbal cues.

Hi all. I ordered that i phone 4s as well as the bluetooth keyboard

and the standard screen protector. I also got the book about the i

Thursday I'll be
heading off to the verizon store to help get it set up. Now what I
really want to
know is about the gestures on the phone flicking double tapping and
sliding. I got
the 4s so can at least do dictation until I either get the keyboard or
get used to
the i phone itself.

Re: Using 4Square

2012-06-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, when you sign up for 4square, you then bring it up and choose check
in. It's located at the bottom. I think the third button. It will list
the nearest things by you whether they are coffee shops or bars, or hair
cutting places. It will not tell you in what direction they are at, but
the list does update to tell you if you are close. Another good app is
Around Me. It's also free and doesn't need any sign up for using it. The
best thing is to try it around where you are now and see how it works
when you are not crunched for time.

I don't know of a demo or tutorial for it. The app itself is pretty easy
and most buttons are labeled right. Some restaurants even have menus
which you can look at right from the app which is cool.

A question about Voice Brief

2012-06-05 Thread Mary-Jo Lord
Hi,

I signed up for Voice Brief. So far it seems really nice. I'm having a
problem getting it set up with my twitter account though. I got interrupted
when I was doing the set up. When I went back in to finish I got some kind
of message about a token being old and it wants me to go to the twitter
site. I did this, several times. At the top of my screen voiceover reads
select and copy the pin. My son insists that he doesn't see anything like
that on the screen. It wants me to turn something on or off in my twitter
settings, I think, but there is next to nothing to change in there. It is
hard to hear what it wants though because it keeps wanting to read while I'm
doing the set up. If I don't find settings really fast after I go into the
app it starts reading and shortly after that settings goes away. Any clue
about what I'm not doing?

Thanks!

 Hi again All,

Well I've just figured out how to get info on the star or body that you are
viewing in The Night Sky. It was so simple but not obvious. :)

The object you're looking at is in the center of the screen and is read by VO
when you tap it. Just above this is a button labeled 'Target.' Double tapping
this button brings up a screen with info about the item being viewed. There
is a back button in the top left corner which allows you to go back to the
viewing screen. It's as simple as that! :)

What was confusing me was that there is a caption below the viewed item that
says 'tap for info.' So tapping this actually does nothing but tapping the
target button just above the body being viewed will show the info.

 So there ya go!

This is the first accessible augmented reality sky app that I've seen.

 Enjoy!

 Cara :)

Hi Jan, yes, when the app comes up, you might need to double tap the screen and
you'll then see a button near the top center (portrait mode) which is labeled
'Target.' Just under the target button you'll see the name of whatever you're
looking at at the time. It's not the kind of app to display a list of stars
etc. It will only show you the one you're pointed directly at. I assume if you
can see, you'd see more info on the screen but VO only reads the item which is
specifically focused on. So this is the one toward the center of the screen.

Hope this helps…

 Hi All;

For those of you interested in learning about what's around you in the sky,
It turns out that The Night Sky is actually usable with VO. This app is on
sale right now, and I believe it's .99 cents US. I say I believe, because the
App Store isn't letting me see the price now that I've downloaded it. :)

Anyway, this app is augmented reality for the sky. So what this means, for
those whom might not know, is that you can simply point your phone at the sky
and it will tell you what you're pointing at; be it a star, constellation,
planet, satellite etc.;) The app is not perfect byany means, but it does
let you see what you're facing and can really be quite interesting.

I also downloaded the extra info pack for approx $1.50 which gives you
information on what you're looking at but so far, I cannot figure on how to
get this to play nicey nice with VO. So there ya go.

Re: ordered that i phone 4s

2012-06-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
If you get a case for your phone, you can flick/swipe toward the case
edge to help orient yourself. This has really helped me and I find
that I have come to rely upon the case's border to help me properly
flick. I didn't realize how much till I tried to use someone's iPod
touch that did not have a case and I felt so lost. Congratulations on
getting an iPhone. You'll be up and running in no time.

The gestures are very intuitive; it takes a minimal amount of practice. I

 can practice the gestures.
A double tap is jus what it sounds like: you take one finger (or two in
certain circumstances) and uickly tap the phone screen twice. That's how
 you
 open anapp or a menu.

Skype App Not Recognizing User Name and Password

2012-06-05 Thread Richard E. Petty
I have not been able to get the Skype app to accept my Skype user name and
password. I've triple checked my typing and confirmed the user name and
password work from my PC.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: A question about Voice Brief

2012-06-05 Thread Traci
Hello,

A few tips for you. You can do a 2-finger double tap to pause voice brief from
reading. That'll help to continue listening to voiceover. There is an oddly
labeled button just above the play button, called something like
dc-slide-arrow. Something like that. Double tap that, then the settings
button will appear again near the top right.

As far as twitter goes, I'm afraid I cannot be much help. I don't have a
twitter account. Have you tried to go into voice brief settings, edit, then
remove the twitter connection, then starting over with that one?

Are you familiar with the apple vis website? They have a great podcast on the
voice brief app; I highly recommend it. Otherwise, maybe ask this twitter
question on the viPhone list.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. :)

 Thanks!

Re: ordered that i phone 4s

2012-06-05 Thread James Mannion
Hi,
I think if you are feeling nervous about the gestures you can
definitely put that to rest already. They will not cause you any
problem, as others have said they are very intuitive, and I think the
book will be a good launch point for you. I have never read the book,
but I have no doubt it is good and it will give you an organized way
to build your knowledge of how to use the IPhone. It really is
designed to be simple to use. I always say that a good interface is
intuitive to use and does not sacrifice being powerful in what it can
do in order to be easier. Apple does a good job at that and I do not
believe where they limit power users is any result of the interface.
Jailbreaking prooves that point well enough in my opinion. Is there
something specific you would like us to help you with? Do you want to
know what gestures do what actions at this point or were you just
generally asking if they are a difficult learning curve?

The gestures are very intuitive; it takes a minimal amount of practice. I
recommend reading the section in the Iphone book you got that describes
them. There's a setting in the Voiceover section of Settings (Settings,
General, Accessibility, Voiceover) that enables Voiceover practice, so
 you
 can practice the gestures.
A double tap is jus what it sounds like: you take one finger (or two in
certain circumstances) and uickly tap the phone screen twice. That's how
 you
 open anapp or a menu.

Hi all. I ordered that i phone 4s as well as the bluetooth keyboard
 from speeddots.com
and the standard screen protector. I also got the book about the i
 phone that Anna
Dresner and Dean Martineau wrote. When I get it which will be on
 Thursday I'll be
heading off to the verizon store to help get it set up. Now what I
 really want to
know is about the gestures on the phone flicking double tapping and
 sliding. I got
the 4s so can at least do dictation until I either get the keyboard or
 get used to
 the i phone itself.

Re: Introductions, question about New Learning Ally App

2012-06-05 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Chris,

I just successfully downloaded and unzipped a 653-MB file using the latest iOS
on an iPHone 4S. I plugged in the iphone because I figured downloading
something that large would be likely to drain the battery, and I'm about 10
feet from my router. So it is possible to downlaod their books using iOS5.1.1.

HTH,
Anna

HI Anna. Unfortunately, I'm still having the issue today, and the customer

with the latest IOS build and WIFI issues.

For Richard and anyone else curious about this, it is the app. from the BBC
allowing people all over the world to watch BBC's programmes on their
I-devices without a UK TV license but for which you have to pay a subscription.
It is not available within the UK. It came out 3 months ago, the first version
was not very accessible and didn't work well, well, at least, it didn't on my
Pod but the update posted last week works perfectly.
Before committing to a subscription you can watch for or 5 selected
programmes different each week and published, in advance, in a dedicated
newsletter.
Sounds great for ex-pats who can't access BBC television.
The cost of the subscription is 6.50 Euros per months. The sound from the
app. is very good, would like to share the pictures with sighted members of my
family, reason for my enquiry on the list.
Cheers now,
Marie
