Re: increasing time before a call goes to voice mail

Hi,

If you are with ATT, they have only a certain number of rings. Once you get
past that, that is it.

GOD BLESS,

Hi all,

Seems to me I remember there is a way to increase the time between when a
call comes in and it goes to email on the iphone.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

Don

RE: increasing time before a call goes to voice mail

2012-09-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Don,

Not sure how this works with your carrier, but if the number of rings is
adjustable, this would be a carrier-specific feature just as voice mail is
from your carrier and has nothing to do with the iPhone. On my business
landline dialing *94 followed by the desired number of rings before voice
mail picks up will set this. However, I was told by my carrier here in
Canada, Telus, that this feature was currently only available for some
customers. I am not sure why this isn't something that can easily be
programmed as is possible on the landline, but that's apparently the way it
is.

Regards,
Sieghard

Question about adding photos using iPhone Facebook app and/or FaceleyHD

2012-09-03 Thread Paula Mack
I’m hoping that one of you who is more of a Facebook expert than I can clarify
some things for me regarding posting photos to Facebook. I have been taking
some pictures, and also my family members have also helped me take some and
also sent me some to post. Because I’ve used different Facebook apps, and
because others have helped me post occasionally, I have a couple of different
albums. I tend to like to add photos using Faceley if I do it independently
because I can tell what’s going on easier.
However, Faceley seems to be set to send all the photos to mobile uploads.
That’s fine with me, but although I have my photo album privacy set to friends,
some people don’t really know how to open the albums, they are used to just
seeing photos in the timeline. Because of this, some people aren’t seeing the
photos.
I notice in the native Facebook app, after the status update area, there is
some other stuff, and one seems to be to choose a photo from the phone. If I
choose that and then choose Use, will this photo be added to my timeline right
with my status, and if so, can I only add one photo per status update or can I
use more then one. Maybe I could just use Faceley when I want to add a bunch
of pics, but just add a couple to the status where people can see them? What
does everyone else do? I asked my daughter, and she said that it doesn’t
matter because it is just Facebook, but I particularly want my friends to see
the pics I took independently of my new grandchild.

Thanks for any help you can give. I hope I’m explaining this coherently.

Thanks.

Re: Help with creating folders.

2012-09-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Anything I can say probably isn't going to compare to Garth's podcast,
but basically, you just move one item on a page over on top of another,
and the iPhone will create a folder for you. Once the folder is created,
you'll be in the folder, and you'll be able to change it's name. To move
an object, you do a double tap and hold, and without taking your finger
off of the screen, start dragging the object around. The iPhone will
announce to you where you're moving it to and when it's on top of
another object. It's best, I find, to explore the screen first to figure
out which object you want to move and where the object is you want to
move it on top of. Once you hear that the the object you're dragging
around is on top of the object you also want included in the folder,
just release your finger.

BTW, where did you get stuck?

ATT data plans again

2012-09-03 Thread Vicky Collins
I went back and looked at the ATT data plans again. So, am I
correct in assuming that an individual like myself with an older
iPhone 4GB personal hotspot data plan would have the following
choices when I upgrade to iOS 6 and purchase the new iPhone? I
could pay the regular price for the new iPhone and keep my
current data plan and the personal hotspot would still be allowed
but the new FaceTime over 3 or 4 G would not be permitted. Or, I
could upgrade to the new iPhone at the current upgrade price, but
would then have to move to a new data plan; and, since I would
want the personal hotspot, I would either have to choose the $50
5GB plan and not have access to the FaceTime over 3 or 4 G, or I
could choose one of the new shared data plans with the unlimited
text messaging and voice minutes and personal hotspot included
and thus the FaceTime allowed. I was kind of thinking that all
new contracts had to go to one of the shared data plans. But, if
that were true, then why would ATT still have all the individual
data plans listed on their site?

Re: Accessible decibel meter

2012-09-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
FYI, 85 decibels is the cutoff used by OSHA for acceptable continuous
noise for 8 hours. For one hour, the cutoff is 94 decibels. Note this is
for continuous noise. Although loud music is significantly higher than
94 decibels, it may not be considered continuous. I also saw some
articles that said OSHA in the US is lagging a bit behind the rest of
the world when it came to hearing protection and decibel guidelines in
the work place. You may want to do a bit of research and Googling
yourself before approaching the owner of your gym, just to make sure
you've got all of your ducks in a row and a strong case to make.

Is visioneer scanner a stand-alone device or is it an app?
If stand-alone, do I understand correctly that you use it

Dear all. I am not sure how accessible will this device be.
Has anyone
already tried this before. It seems from the description
that it may work
with iPhone to save scanned images.
Please click the link below about a stand alone scanner. I
use visioneer
scanner for my scanning needs. It has behaved superbly thus
far.

I need the same because I am trying to prove to the owner of my gym that

audiologist that a 75 decibel sound sustained for 1 hour can and does cause
permanent ear damage. I'd love to prove to him how much louder than 75

RE: Help with creating folders.

2012-09-03 Thread Regina Alvarado
Interesting with folders too. It seems that depending on what you are
putting together, it will name the folder appropriately. I have a puzzle
folder, other games folder and a social folder which were all named by just
putting whatever I wanted in the folder on top of each other. I guess if I
wanted to re-name a folder I would have to get the podcast, but when I
followed the instruction it named them for me which saved me a lot of grief!

Re: Help with creating folders.

2012-09-03 Thread Kimber Gardner
In order to rename a folder all you need do is locate the text field
on the screen of the phone, double tap to bring up the keyboard then
delete the name you don't want by double tapping and holding the
delete key. Once the given name is gone just type the name you want
same as you would in any title field.

Re: increasing time before a call goes to voice mail

2012-09-03 Thread Grant Hardy
Hi Don, actually, there may well be a way to do this depending upon
your carrier, but it's a little technical. I was writing a bunch of
instructions for you to try, but really, the below article from
Lifehacker summarizes things nicely. If you're not in the U.S. but use
a GSM carrier, try the instructions for ATT. It involves typing in a
code to change the call forward if not answered settings, which is how
voicemail is often controlled on GSM carriers. If it messes things up
and doesn't allow people to leave messages anymore, you should be able
to deactivate the custom forwarding you set up by dialing #61#. At
that point, your voicemail should begin working again. Here's the
article in question.
http://lifehacker.com/5878635/change-how-long-your-phone-rings-before-sending-calls-to-voicemail

Let us know if you try it and get it working.

Channel Names in the Sirius XM App

channel. Is that how it is, or is there a way around it?

Hi Don, actually, there may well be a way to do this depending upon your
carrier, but it's a little technical. I was writing a bunch of instructions
for you to try, but really, the below article from Lifehacker summarizes
things nicely. If you're not in the U.S. but use a GSM carrier, try the
instructions for ATT. It involves typing in a code to change the call
forward if not answered settings, which is how voicemail is often
 controlled
on GSM carriers. If it messes things up and doesn't allow people to leave
messages anymore, you should be able to deactivate the custom forwarding
 you
set up by dialing #61#. At that point, your voicemail should begin working
again. Here's the article in question.
 http://lifehacker.com/5878635/change-how-long-your-phone-rings-before-sendin
 g-calls-to-voicemail

Let us know if you try it and get it working.

 Cheers,

 Grant

RE: Accessibility of rdio on iPhone?

2012-09-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mark,

This is Sieghard from BC. I just downloaded the RDIO app and subscribed for
a month since I was curious myself. Everything so far seems to be
accessible.. one question, though, why subscribe to something like Rdio or
spotify (assuming it was available here in Canada) if you can get so much
music for free? I am thinking of services like Slacker which ahs a free
account option, Songza which is pretty nice or even Ootunes where you can,
for example, listen to all the 181.fm stations which I think are awesome.
Why don't we chat some time if you like, write to me off-list at

RE: increasing time before a call goes to voice mail

2012-09-03 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Don,

While I have only done this on the ATT Wireless network, in recent years,
I'm sure all of the major carriers allow the same customization.

There is no setting on the iPHone that will allow you to set the number of
rings or the amount of time before a call goes to voicemail. In order to do
this you must contact your wireless provider.

Please be aware that many of the phone support people do not know how to do
this successfully on the iPhone.

Once, I had to call three times before they were able to save my settings
correctly.

It happens by default with the mail app.

Type enough into the to field to get a fairly narrow match, touch just below
the too field and all that match whatever you have entered into the to field
will show up there. Double tap on the one you want and move on to CC or add
someone else in the to field, or just go on to the subject, etc.

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Linda and Andy,

I don't own such a cordless phone and haven't used one. However, I also have
looked at such cordless phones and as far as I am concerned it is a bit of a
gadget which to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I can just as easily
answer my iPhone instead of a cordless phone. I guess one argument might be
that maybe you have your iPhone plugged in and with such a cordless phone
you could still answer your iPhone. However, as Andy pointed out, the
connection between the cordless phone and the iPhone is just Bluetooth and
no different from using any Bluetooth headset which allows you to answer
your phone or, for that matter, the Jambox will let you do so except you
only have speakerphone. I have used Bluetooth headsets and very good ones
like the Jambox ERA which is considered to be one of the best single-ear
headsets for answering calls. The fact is that even with a very good
Bluetooth headset you will not get the same voice quality as you would with
a wired headset. Now consider that the Jawbone ERA is $129.99 and many of
these cordless phones are in that same price range, often even cheaper,
sometimes maybe a bit more. I then wonder what would give me better sound
quality, a dedicated Bluetooth headset made by a company that specializes in
that or a cordless phone which even without the mobile phone connection
feature costs already half as much as the dedicated headset. In my opinion
the sound quality on such a device can only be worse than on a good
Bluetooth headset. Lastly, the connection is also subject to the limitations
of range associated with Bluetooth. Not a big deal if you have an apartment
or smaller house, but in a larger home or one where you have multiple floors
it may not be the best.

Keep in mind that this is my own reasoning and opinion on this and maybe I
am totally wrong and some of the cordless phones that connect to your cell
phone via Bluetooth are actually fantastic. I would recommend that you find
the model you want to buy and then either look it up on Amazon where you can
usually find lots of reviews or google it and look for reviews. If you
decide to buy such a phone I look forward to your review on the list.

Help please, canI control contacts going from mountain lion to iPad and iPhone

2012-09-03 Thread Sharon Ballantyne
Hi all,

I recently upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion IOS 10 and voila all my contacts

Can I set my iPhone and iPad so some of these contacts do not show up but stay

devices.

Also can I do something to check for duplicates and merge information because
now some of my contacts are duplicated.

Thank-you so much for suggestions.

successfully set the time until voice mail answers to 10 seconds and after
that reset it to 25 seconds. I can't vouch for Telus, but I would assume
this should work since Koodo is owned by Telus and uses the same network.

I have a Panasonic one with talking caller id. I'm still trying to decide
what I think of it. I like the concept.

Panasonic KX-TG76.
Mine has 5 handsets. But I'm a hog that way, lol! You can get them with
less.

Even tonight I got caught with my cell phone in another room, so I ansered
on the cordless. But while you're on the call with the cordless, you can't
use your cell. If you can, I sure haven't figured it out.
I was hoping to discontinue my land line, but nothing will ever beat the
sound quality.

So what is the connecting interface between cordless and iphone? Is it
Bluetooth? What are the possible benefits of using a cordless than the
iphone itself?

Re: Anyone have experience with Plantronics Voyager Pro HD Bluetooth Headset?

2012-09-03 Thread Dave Bahr
yeah, had two of them and sent both back, hated them. they have an
annoying habit of not answering when I press the voice command feature,
just sits there. both of them did that. go with the voyager pro plus,
it's a flaw that plantronics is aware of but no one could help me to fix
it, so I made them send me a voyager pro plus, which is what I'd asked
for in the first place when sending the first hd back. nope, they sent
me another hd, a third call got the pro plus and I haven't had a problem
with it in a month and a half of frequent daily use.

Re: Dragon recorder and dictation

2012-09-03 Thread jeffry miller
the dictation app is cool. after you tap the dictate button and say
what you want then swipe once to the right and tap and some buttons will
pop up go to the left to the keyboard button and tap it and you should
see your message to the left that you dictated. if you connect it up
with twitter or fb then in the menue button on the right it will give
you the option to tweet it or share it or other options.

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Shelley, Andy and others,

You wouldn't be able to use your iPhone to make another call while you are
talking on the cordless and if the call came in on your iPhone. That would
be like talking on a Bluetooth headset and using the iPhone itself to make
another call. The call is still on your iPhone and is using up airtime, the
cordless phone is nothing but a Bluetooth handset in this case. It's like
those cordless phones you can get which in addition to being connected to
your landline are also connected to your router and allow you to answer and
make Skype calls.

As for your question, Tara, in my opinion there is no real advantage in such
phones except that you can leave your iPhone lying around or plug it in and
still walk around while you make a call or answer a call. I'd rather keep my
iPhone in my pocket or on my belt, that way I can answer a call just the
same, I can use SIRI to make a call, quickly set a timer when I'm in the
kitchen or immediately get an incoming text message. Maybe Shelley can
answer this, but I doubt you can listen to a text message on the cordless
phone and I'm not sure if you can activate SIRI with it. I haven't had a
landline at my house for 3 years or so and find it very convenient. One
other thing to keep in mind with so many wireless devices nowadays is that
the more you have the greater the chance for the various signals to
interfere with each other.

Regards,
Sieghard
