I will say though that the Big Oven App (for me anyway,) tended to be very laggy on the 3GS; just something worth noting, if any of you 3gS users are interested in that one in particular. At the upper right hand corner after making a category selection, there is a toggle list button. This needs to be tapped on to open the list of recipes. Once you have selected a recipe by tapping on it, there is an Add button that will give you options to add it to your favorite list, email the recipes, tweet it, send to Facebook, or add to the shopping list. There are different ways to search when you tap on the search button. There are different types of food items such as avocado, bacon, etc. to link on for recipes. There is a text field to type in a type of recipe you are looking for or a food item to search the app. Besides different food items to search for, there are categories for dietary considerations, dish type, main/course, seasonal, and etc. For 1.99, you can get the recipe box and sync the recipes there. I have not considered spending the money because I place it in my favorites or email myself the recipes. This is a good little app. I believe it is free minus the recipe box sync for $1.99. RE: i5 Underwhelming
Well said, Allison. It seems that with every release of a new iPhone a certain group of people (and I don't necessarily mean just people on this list) complain and say it's disappointing etc. When the 4S came out it was the same, a lot of people were disappointed it wasn't called the iPhone 5 as if the name matters and so on. I actually think it would have been smart of Apple to just call it the new iPhone, after all, a MacBook Pro or an iMac doesn't have a model number. Compared to a 4S the iPhone 5 is maybe not quite as big an update as the 4S was from the 4, but of course for the many people who are on a 4 or even 3GS it's huge and who says it has to be this incredible new innovation every year, it's not as if anybody's life and happiness depends on the fact that they buy a new iPhone every year; at least it shouldn't depend on that, if it does maybe you need to spend money on a shrink instead of a new iPhone. I heard a lot of disappointment that there is no NFC, but I think Apple may feel NFC it's just not the thing and they certainly don't adopt something if they don't believe in it or if they think the time isn't right. RE: Fleksy I think has a problem.
Hello Reggie, You made a good point regarding putting 2 empty lines before you even start typing in Fleksy. I just tried this and verified that it will indeed cause the subject field to be empty. Turning off the Include subject in body will avoid having the subject line repeat in the message body. As far as the subject line goes, however, I find it very convenient that whatever I first type and separate from my main text with two new line commands will be my subject. Why leave the subject blank only to have to type it with the what I call the slow keyboard once I am in the mail app. Regards, Sieghard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Regina Alvarado Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2012 1:06 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Fleksy I think has a problem. Hi Reggie, Fleksy is designed to do this if you use the email function. The way it works is that whatever you write as your first line of text is automatically used as the subject line. The trick is to insert a new paragraph (2 new lines) between what you want your subject to be and your main email text. I think it's 2 new lines, maybe 1 will do, but I know for sure it works with 2. There is also a setting in Settings Fleksy where you can indicate as to whether you want to repeat that subject line as your first line of text in the message body. Moderator's note about upcoming higher list traffic
Hello all. In the next week or so the list traffic is going to jump considerably. Right now it's a bit higher with the exciting news of the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5 announcements. However in the next week or so when iOS 6 is released, and a few weeks later when some of you start receiving your new iPhones, the list traffic will probably take a leap up even more. So, with that in mind, I'd like to remind everyone of the following to try and minimize the unwanted or unneeded messages on list. Note that I'm not saying that you shouldn't post questions or participate in discussions. I'm merely saying that we should all take steps to minimize messages which serve no real purpose. The below are suggested guidelines to keep in mind. 1. We are all in the ballroom at VIPhone Manor. Think of the mailing list as a huge room where all the list members are hanging out and sharing ideas, experiences, asking questions, ETC about our favorite iOS devices. There is a wireless microphone being passed around and every time someone posts to the list, they hold the microphone for that glorious moment and everyone in the room gets to hear what they have to say. However if that same someone responds privately to another list member instead of posting to the list, the conversation is kept quiet and no one in the ballroom is aware of it. Please try and consider when you want to post to the list, does everyone need to hear what I have to say, or does only the person I'm having a conversation need to hear it. Lively and positive list discussion is encouraged as long as it remains on topic. Personal conversations or things which are obviously meant for one person are not. Some good examples of holding the microphone for everyone to hear are: Posting about a new app or an update to an app. Discussing good and bad points about an app or a specific iOS device. Sharing experiences about an app or a situation where the iOS device made a difference in something you did. Asking questions about the accessibility of an app. Comparing apps or iOS devices. Some not-so-good examples of holding the microphone for everyone to hear are: Posting one-liner messages such as me too, thank you, or your welcome and not adding to the discussion at hand. Asking a specific person for their email address when it's right there in the message you are responding to. Treating someone with no respect, or talking down to someone who might not have an answer to a question. Trying to moderate the list yourself. 2. Tolerance and patience. This list is comprised of over 1000 people with a varying range of education, background, ethics, and age. Because of this we ask that you all show tolerance toward each other's style of writing and expression. If you feel that a list member has posted a message which is offensive, unreadable, grammatically or syntactically incorrect please do not complain about it on list. You can either ignore the message, or take it up with me or Cara privately. Flaming the list member on list would not be cool at all. There are times when emotions can get hot, and if this happens, it's ok to step back and let things cool down. If action is required by the moderators, let us handle it. 3. Use appropriate language. Foul language is not acceptable on list. We realize that some words are not considered foul language in certain parts of the world or in the context used. However when posting to the list decide on whether your message would be appropriate in a children's book or if it would be tolerated in grade school. 4. Fellowship. The VIPhone list doesn't only exist to serve as a database of questions and answers. That is what knowledge bases, FAQs, and Google searches are for. In addition to exchanging knowledge, This list is a place for us to fellowship in some small way. Although personal chat-like posts will always creep up on list, they are not condoned. It is in our nature to want to discuss things with each other. They might start off as iOS related but then might stray to other areas. If this happens, please move the discussion off the list so it can remain on topic. It is very easy for a discussion about a weather app to morph into a discussion about the weather in your city and how your pets feel about the recent climate changes. 5. Appropriate postings. It goes without saying, but please take care to post messages which are iOS related. Asking questions about the best Android app for your checkbook, or finding the best places to vacation next summer are not considered on topic. If you post links to web sites or podcasts or downloads, make sure they are public links or that you have permission to post them. Postings containing salacious or defamatory material, piracy, cracking/hacking of any software, and anything illegal are unacceptable and inappropriate. 6. Moderating members. I hate writing this one, but it has to be said. We realize that most

RE: activating voiceover on iPhone 4
When you have it plugged into iTunes, go to your phone in the sources tree view and, here is where my memory is not clear, either on the summary tab or the info tab, go to the button that says Configure Universal Access and hit the space bar. You will have VoiceOver in that list, just select it and go to the OK button and all should be well. i-phone case with slide-out keyboard.
iPhone Keyboard Case For iPhone 4 and 4S Models List Price: $59.99 DEAL PRICE: $29.00 (51% Off) Product Details Problem clicking the button above? Try Click Here I have an iPhone 4S and decided to throw one of these new Keyboard Cases on it over the weekend to test it out. I LOVED it and everyone was asking me about it! It's an iPhone case that has a slide-out mini keyboard... it allows you to actually type and FEEL the keys you are typing. It is perfect for those of you who don't like the touch screen and would prefer a more tactile typing option. I'm constantly pressing the wrong key on my touch screen - it gets so frustrating! There are a couple of things to note. This is ONLY for the iPhone 4 and 4S models. Connects using Bluetooth technology, so there are no cords and it charges through its own USB charger. What takes some getting use to (then you'll love it) is how it reconfigures the typing on your iPhone all together. The touch screen keys won't even pop up during texting, so it enables you to see more of the previous conversation. Also, the auto correct shuts off, which has its ups and downs. What I like is that the keyboard works literally like a computer keyboard. For example, you have to hold down shift to uppercase a letter. As I already mentioned, I got compliments and questions from friends - it is a really sharp looking accessory, and you can choose either black or white. Match your phone or mix it up! Features: - iPhone Case for iPhone 4 and 4S - Slide-Out/Fully Functional Keyboard - Function fn Key allows quick secondary functions - Bluetooth Connection - Choose from Black or White This case adds style, functionality and protection to your iPhone thanks Be Well, Anisa Team Add Me To Your Address Book Call 800-711-1361 for any problems ordering (Item Number: 6011) CLEARANCE ALERT: New Items Added To The Site Grab some of these while you can... they won't last long. Did you all consider that some people might have NFC what NFC is? LOL, just kidding. Every time I hear NFC, I don't think payment system. I think, No F.g Clue. Anyway, seriously though, I'm not going to belittle anyone who upgrades from the 4S to the 5 because after all, it's still moving up the chain of new devices. However for me personally, I can wait because with what I can get out of the 4S, I can't justify a new phone just yet. Now, if I was coming from the 3GS or the 4, then I would definitely be getting the 5. Cheers. -- Raul A. I actually think it would have been smart of Apple to just call it “the new iPhone”, after all, a MacBook Pro or an iMac doesn’t have a model number. Compared to a 4S the iPhone 5 is maybe not quite as big an update as the 4S was from the 4, but of course for the many people who are on a 4 or even 3GS it’s huge and who says it has to be this incredible new innovation every year, it’s not as if anybody’s life and happiness depends on the fact that they buy a new iPhone every year; at least it shouldn’t depend on that, if it does maybe you need to spend money on a shrink instead of a new iPhone. I heard a lot of disappointment that there is no NFC, but I think Apple may feel NFC it’s just not the thing and they certainly don’t adopt something if they don’t believe in it or if they think the time isn’t right. Remember too that multiple core processing improves performance for certain types of applications and computing activities but not necessarily all. The other question is ram which will make a difference because the more apps you have open the more room there will be with less swapping in theory. Much like the computer world, the iOS and other mobile devices are following the same path. Those handsets may need them as their OS is bloaty, or because apps are written poorly for the platform etc, then again, perhaps not. iOS maybe written in a way that means that it just does not need it. A case in point, only very recently have we seen the first duel core Windows PHone 7 device, this when for years other handsets have had duel and even quad core processors. Yet, in bench mark testing of single core Windows Phone 7 devices against even quad core Android devices, the Windows Phone 7 devices have out performed in a range of common tasks. My point, as with many things in the computing world, simple measurements like processor cores, RAM, speed of cores etc, are not in their own right a quantitative measurement or standard worthy of comparison, only when the whole picture is taken into account can one truly say that x product is better or not. Hi Donna, if the iPHone is up to date, the computer won't try to update it. If you have a recent iTunes or iCloud backup, go to SEttings/General/Reset and choose the option to erase all data from your phone. Then start going through the iPHone setup. RE: i5 Underwhelming
Hi Scott, From all I read and heard the A6 is not a Quad Core and may not even have a Quad Core GPU (graphics processing unit) as is the case with the A5X which is in the new iPad. Here is a link to an article, it's a bit technical, but it makes it clear that we don't know exactly yet what the specs are until one of those places that takes things apart really takes a closer look. Apple certainly did not say at their event, they did not even say or emphasize that the iPhone 5 has 1 Gig of RAM, I think most people expect it does, but Apple to my knowledge has not confirmed this. The article makes it clear that the number of Cores, and Neil pointed this out already, is definitely not the only benchmark for getting better overall performance and also that battery life is a big factor when it comes to decisions on which CPU is chosen. The size and architecture of the CPU apparently are even more important than how many Cores it has and apparently the iPhoen 4S, for example, runs only at about 800 Mhz clock speed with its A5 CPU and yet it's considered to be one of the faster phones out there, it's very snappy and responsive. Just as an example, I once tested an LG phone 3 years ago which had a 1 Ghz Snapdragon CPU with Windows Mobile 6.5 and MobileSpeak, it was a touch screen phone with slide-out keyboard and it was unbelieveably sluggish. Re: iPhone 5
Hi Kimberly, After reading your message, I contacted Verizon to verify what you heard. You are correct; the unlimited data plan will go unless one pays full retail for the iPhone 5. However, before making any decisions, I would recommend you check your data usage on all of the phones on your plan. You can get that information in a text message by typing pound data and send from your phone. You may be surprised at what yo learn. For instance, my wife and I use less than a gigabyte per month by quite a bit. A 2 gigabyte plan for data usage would cost us $10 less than we are paying now. If we opt for a 4 gigabyte plan, we'd be paying the same as we are now. So in summary, I encourage you to check your data usage before running off to another carrier. Hi, not it is not. Once you upgrade, that's it. This is because Apple stops signing the prior iOS versions once a new one is out. Re: iPhone 5
I have to admit that looking at Sprints offerings I am rather impressed. FOr my wife and I it would cost me only a couple more dollars to get twice the level of service. No make that three times the service. I could get unlimited data, text, and 1,500 minutes of babble time (evenings start at 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) both iPhones for $120. That is before a 15% discount via my employer. Either way I'd come out ahead. Only thing is I'd have to figure out their coverage area. And with ATT and the games they seem to want to play on iPhone subscribers, it is making the decision a lot easier when my contract expires with ATT. What would make the switch to VZW more palatable once LTE has rolled out. ALthough (not that it is a big deal) the idea of having voice and data access at the same time is handy. RE: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Why doesn't apple just use the industry standard micro USB connector as this is available commercially from any electronics seller and this would make it easier for people to buy a replacement cable if they so wished. Supposedly it'll be apple's standard connection for many years to come according to them. By that logic, I can't fault them for making the change -- they would've had to do it sooner or later. What irritates me more is that the adaptors are $35 each -- at least in Canada. Personally, I think they're ridiculously over-priced and Apple isn't allowing any 3rd party vendors to create adaptors of their own for the time being, if ever. On one hand, it's smart because it creates an added revenue stream for Apple but on the other hand, I find it kind of sleazy. No one was really asking for the change or a thinner device so why do we have to pay to retro-fit things? As far as I know, no adaptor comes included with the phone, which would've been nice. Re: i5 Underwhelming
Sieghard, THanks for sharing the article and it was pretty interesting. I do not know either about the ram beyond what has ben said, but even the normally reliable sources are not Apple, so correct that we do not know until the horse speaks. I really believe it matters little about how many cores at the end of the day. Because if the software is not leveraging those extra cores it will be of little benefit in the end. What does matter as the article points out is the size of the chip and so forth. I'd rather have longer battery life than speed. I believe there is a balance where you can achieve good battery life and still retain good performance. Obviously the other factor is how well the OS has been optimized to leverage the architecture of the hardware. I really have no complaints about the performance of my 4S and find few occasions where it bogs down. What I'm more interested in is the overall battery life and if there is a marketable increase or about the same and the level of overall performance. However, what is more interesting to me is the increased audio quality from the internal speaker, not that I have any complaints about the 4S. Now that aluminum case sounds nice and how the whole package is assembled is something I do want to check out. I get the impression that how the phone itself is manufactured is pretty impressive including how the screen is constructed. Scott On Sep 14, 2012, at 11:24 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi Scott, From all I read and heard the A6 is not a Quad Core and may not even have a Quad Core GPU (graphics processing unit) as is the case with the A5X which is in the new iPad. OK, Here is that link: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/09/what-do-we-know-about-apples-new-a6-pro cessor/ Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Hello Joe, I totally and completely agree with you. While I will purchase the iPhone 5, there is definitely no wow factor and I'm certainly not recommending it to iPhone 4 S users. The fact that Apple thinks it's cool to be able to manipulate iTunes playlists in a slightly new way says more about their lack of innovation than anything. Apple has confirmed that even on LTE, Verizon and Sprint customers won't be able to access cellular data while they are on a call. If you're connected to WiFi, you can use that, but not cellular. This restriction also exists with ATT, except that in this case it will fall back to HSPA+, so you'll still have cellular data access, just no LTE. Decisions decisions! :) On Sep 14, 2012, at 12:08 PM, Les Kriegler wrote: Hi Kimberly, After reading your message, I contacted Verizon to verify what you heard. Honestly, I don't agree. I have a 4s and the only reason I'm not upgrading is because I still have another year to go before I'm eligible. I guess it's subjective, but faster processor, better optics, dual band WiFi, and thinner and lighter, are all great reasons in my mind to upgrade if one is eligible. JMO. Mark, What do you mean by The fact that Apple thinks it's cool to be able to manipulate iTunes playlists in a slightly new way says more about their lack of innovation How is manipulating playlists a lack of innovation? Since iTunes is really a small part of the whole picture I'm not sure how it makes any real difference. Clearly there is only so much room to innovate currently in the hardware but certainly the innovation will be in the software. True innovation in hardware will come when someone manages to get 24 hours runtime (surfing, streaming, and such) on their phone. Now that is going to be innovative. :) On Sep 14, 2012, at 2:05 PM, M. Taylor mk...@ucla.edu wrote: Hello Joe, I totally and completely agree with you. Hi, I am trying to share a link to facebook using the new youtube app. I go into the app, pick the vidio I want to share, press the more button which brings up the share to with all the choices. I double tap facebook and then I get a message saying that youtube moble is misconfigured for facebook and press ok to go back to the app without connecting to facebook. Otherwise it says it needs basic information and shows me as being logged in as my facebook account but when I press that it just brings up my news feed on facebook. So question is, how do I share links to youtube using the new youtube app and the facebook app. Jen -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Video Magnifiers
Hello Listers, In preparation for a presentation that my team is doing in October I have been researching some video magnifier apps to demo. Is there anyone on the list that has used any of the apps in this genre, and if so, which ones, and how do they work for you? Keep in mind that I am blind and I will be presenting for a group of TVI's in Georgia, so even though I can't see what the app can magnify, it is important that our audience be able to see it. We will be plugging into a large screen projector for the presentation. Any information will be greatly appreciated. USB can carry video. I'm not sure why Apple chooses not to use the micro USB connector, but I do know that Apple chooses not to participate in various cell phone consortiums, so they were not present when the cell phone manufacturers adopted micro USB as the standard for the battery charging connection. No one was really asking for the change or a thinner device so why do we have to pay to retro-fit things? As far as I know, no adaptor comes included with the phone, which would've been nice. Cables you can use if you buy an adapter, but I don't think this would work well for sticking your iPhone onto a dock. I think especially for some who have purchased expensive players like a Bose Soundlink or similar this improvement is not so cool. I would consider it an improvement though simply because I get the feeling the much smaller connector will be more stirdy and one very nice feature is the fact that it's reverseable which means it doesn' matter which way around you stick it in, it fits either way. Second, the iPhone 5 now has its headphone jack at the bottom where the dock connector is. Apple did not mention this specifically, but apparently Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast did confirm this. Third, a new iOS 6 camera feature (at least for the iPhone 5 and 4S) allows you to take a photo while you are recording video. Maybe not so much a feature many of us would use, but I think it's a nice feature as there might be a scene you want to capture as a photo while you are recording a video, now you can without stopping your video recording. Lastly, I found it interesting that Apple did not mention the Podcast app and none of the comments I read where people were naming apps visible on the home screen during the event mentioned it either. I also just looked on the apple.com website under iPhone and Built In Apps and Podcasts was not mentioned unless I missed it. I have the feeling that this may not even be part of the initial iOS 6 release since Apple's Podcast app has shall we say received less than favourable reviews and ratings. Re: i5 Underwhelming
People said the same about the iPhone 4s. I believe they also said the same about the 4. When my iPhone 4 went for repairs last year, I got a 3GS loaner for the week. It was quite noticeably slower. My friend's 4s is faster than my 4. I will get the 5, and I know it will be significantly better than my 4. Storm8 games audio demo now available
Hi, I've recorded a demo of me playing a couple of Storm8 games. In this demo I demonstrate what the various screens look like, and then I create a new character and show how that's done. The demo is around 80 minutes long and doesn't have catchy sound effects or booming background noises unless you want to count my dog groaning in the background as one. If you don't know what Storm8 games are, they are role playing games which you play from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android phone. There are various games out such as World War, iMobsters, Vampires Live, Zombies Live, Kingdoms Live and more. In the demo I play Vampires and Zombies. The games are super voice over friendly and fun to play. Oh, and BTW, my Storm8 username if you want to add me is Asmo47 for the iPhone games I play. The Vampires clan code if you want to add my iPod one is 4RP4CF. The link is: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7652029/Storm8Demo.mp3 Thanks, and happy gaming. -- Raul A. Re: Video Magnifiers
Hi Scott, I've played with several such apps including ZoomReader and Vision Assist and frankly I'm not impressed. There's a significant amount of lag and blurriness. While I'll use them as a last resort for spot reading I would not recommend them as a replacement for a stand alone video magnifier. Hi there, I think what a little disappoint me is the no real improvement on the camera side of things. I was quite looking forward to at least 12mp camera. That will make a different when come to things like OCR, or the pertential of some digital magnifying or similar things. Considering the new Nokia Lumia comes with like 41mp camera or some crazy number like that, i think 12mp or 14mp, or even 16mp isn't too much to ask for from Apple. Regardless, i think it will be an upgrate for me, from 4 to 5. I' quite looking forward for the new features that 4 doesn't have, e.g. SIRI, turn by turn maps, passbook, etc. Joannee Sent from my iPhone On 15/09/2012, at 8:16, David Chittenden dchitten...@gmail.com wrote: It came out a few months ago that NFC is quite open to Kernel attacks in one's device. Apparently they made it smaller because they couldn't continue making products thinner with a 30 pin connection slot taking up valuable hardware space. Perhaps it could've been absorbed into the cost of the phone but oh well -- looks like that's not going to happen. -Marc On 9/13/12, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hello List, I don't think I came across many posts who mention a few additional iPhone 5 changes/improvements. First, the iPhone 5 has a new 9 PIN connector. This means if you have a music dock or even the Apple iPhone dock and iPhone cables you will not be able to use any of them with a new iPhone 5. RE: i5 Underwhelming
Hi, I think the camera in the iPhone 5 will be plenty good for OCR, and things like that. Just because it's still 8 MP doesn't mean it will be the same quality as the 4S camera was. The reason they couldn't make the number higher was due to the optics they could achieve in such a thin profile device. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Joanne Chua Sent: Friday, September 14, 2012 6:04 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Cc: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: i5 Underwhelming Hi there, I think what a little disappoint me is the no real improvement on the camera side of things. Considering the new Nokia Lumia comes with like 41mp camera or some crazy number like that, i think 12mp or 14mp, or even 16mp isn't too much to ask for from Apple. Hello, Anytime a double-tap does not work for me, I first find the item on the display and try the split-tap. Occasionally, this will work. If it doesn't, I then try the double-tap and hold pass through gesture. If that doesn't work, I try the pass through gesture followed by swiping my finger to the right before lifting it from the display. Finally, if none of the above work, I find the item on the display again, lift my finger from the display whilst keeping it over the button, triple-tap the home button with my other hand, touch the item location and lift my finger, and then triple-tap home to turn VO on. RE: i5 Underwhelming
Hello Scott, I agree with you that a new feature in iTunes and the lack of iPhone innovation have little if anything to do with each other. When posting my original reply to the list, I was thinking about how much time the speaker, during the keynote presentation, spent demonstrating the new next up feature that will be in the next major release of iTunes. In a nut shell, there are those that will applaud whatever Apple does regardless of how much or how little. I am not one of them. I think it's great that the new iPhone will be faster but the same can be said of all of its predecessors, as well, at the time of their release. Given that they only release one new version of the device per year, I suppose I was hoping for something new and tantalizing such as was the case with the iPhone 4 S with Siri. Getting back to iTunes, I think it's getting a little late in the day for Apple to act as though adding a feature to playlists is that big of a deal. Of course, this is just my opinion but I stand by it. The market has matured and, as far as media managers are concerned, iTunes is sorely lacking, at worst, and is average, at best. Admittedly, I am not taking into account, accessibility which, for blind and low vision users, is truly a game changer. As I stated, I will purchase an iPhone 5 next week but I will do so because I am a fan of Apple and I love having the latest and greatest but not because of any must-have features. Ah, well I have not watched the keynote, so now I understand the context of your comments. Well hey I imagine someone will find those new fangled iTunes features quite interesting. I however like iTunes just fine for what it does and what it does for me is working great. I really see the iPhone 5 as sort of an evolution to the next thing because now they have LTE which was really a game changer for a lot of folks. Really what I hope is that companies will start to really focus in on performance and battery life. I think these things will be what sets devices apart from each other. RE: i5 Underwhelming
Hi. From what I'm reading, it's extremely unlikely US cariers will support that feature, at all. It has something to do with using 3G signals for wideband audio, as opposed to LTE, which all 3 carriers are focused on at this point in time, and probably won't want to devote the resources needed to support wideband audio. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Ricardo Walker Sent: Friday, September 14, 2012 7:22 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: i5 Underwhelming Hi Mark and all. Accessibility notwithstanding, while Apple may have reinvented the proverbial Smartphone wheel, they no longer own the road upon which it travels. I agree also, let us keep in mind one issue regarding the competing operating system Android. Besides issues of access the fact is that updates to the software are under control of your carrier and phone manufacturer. thus, I have several friends that are still waiting for android 4.1 because there carrier and/or phone maker is not yet released the update. I wonder why Apple did not simply replace the connecter with a micro USB instead of the new connecter, but for me that is a miner issue. A Tip for A T T Wireless Customers Who Are Thinking About Upgrading to iPhone 5
Hello Everyone, I went into the A T T Wireless store a few hours ago to see if I am eligible for an upgrade. Somehow I knew I wouldn't be but I just wanted to confirm (Smile). Not that it matters as I have decided to purchase iPhone 5. I was amazed at the fact that the store was jam-packed with customers. While I no longer frequent the A T T Wireless or Verizon Wireless stores as much as I used to, I visit enough to have been truly surprised. There was a waiting list to enter the store. I asked the receptionist why the store was so busy and she said it was because of all the people who are pre-ordering iPhone 5. It would appear that not everyone was underwhelmed by Apple's keynote presentation. After leaving the store, I decided to go over to the Verizon Wireless store and, it too, was jam-packed with people preordering. RE: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Apple provides a Micro USB adapter in Europe which they have to do by law, so it's not quite the same as backing USB. Of course Apple isn't exactly known to support industry standards, just consider Firewire and Thunderbolt not to mention Micro SIM and now Nano SIM. In any case, I personally think Micro USB is a big pain in the neck, I know a lot of sighted people who even have to look twice before they have the thing facing the right way and I think having a small reverseable connector is just fine. Given the popularity of Apple devices and the huge offering of cables, docks etc. whatever they do is almost a standard by itself and if it's simpler and maybe more durable than a micro USB connector then why not. After all, if you want micro USB just get an adapter. I heard that there is maybe even in in-version change for the new iPad and that it will have the new small connector. Re: US ITC judge rules Apple does not violate Samsung patents
I wonder how much we have to worry about the LTE complaints that are said could be filed by Samsung. Instead of just producing their own products, they may try to use the legal system to ban the IPhone 5 from being sold. That would suck. These standards should not be allowed to be locked down by some patent held by one company. That is to cornor the market in a way that is not fair to anyone. You can't have a standard if everyone has to do it a different way. I hate Samsung. I guess they can't rely on their products to stand up against the competition, they have to find some corrupt way to get rid of them instead. On 9/14/12, Raul A.
