RE: Scrub Gesture

Hi Charles,

You suggestion to use the practice area of Voiceover is good, but using one

Practice it by using the practice feature in the Voice-Over section of the

Anyone have any tips for how to learn the srub gesture? It's been
described to me as tracing a quick Z on the screen with two fingers,
but I can't seem to get the gesture right.

RE: iTunes and music on my phone

2015-02-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chris,

If the music is in MP3 and you put it on, where is that music? I mean that you
must have had it on your computer in order to sync it to your phone.

Only way to get it off your phone now if you don't have the original files
would be to use a program like Copy Trans which you have to buy, I think it's
$30, and I also think you might need sighted help to use it, but I am not
totally sure about that. Anyhow, it would be easiest if you can get the MP3
files from your old computer, then copy them to your new laptop and resync with
iTunes.

Hello all,
I got a new laptop and after installing iTunes, I proceeded to sync and backup
my phone.
Everything went well, but I noticed that the music I currently have on my phone
did not sync into iTunes.
I found this out by trying to look at my music in iTunes.

Now iTunes told me that my phone had been synced with another computer, and
gave the name of my old laptop, it then said that if I wanted to sync my music
with this iTunes, then I could but it would erase all of the music on my phone.
My question is, is there a way of adding the music I have on my phone to the
iTunes on my new laptop?

Now I will say that the music on my phone is mp3 files I put on there myself,
and not music I bought from iTunes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, but will try anything at this point because the only thing left to do

RE: calls that cut out

2015-02-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I highly doubt it’s your carrier. Koodo is on the Telus infrastructure, I was
with them for almost 3 years before switching back to Telus recently and never
had a problem.

Did you try using a wired headset and did you do several calls with it to see
if that makes a difference?

Despite what Apple did over the phone, if this is an easily reproduceable
problem, just take your phone to an Apple store and ask them to make some calls
so they can see for themselves.

Hi, Sighard:

Just to clarify it happens on the ear piece at home where I get 3 of 5 bars on
Koodo mobile. I have disabled L e t removed the case, put the case back on,
even considered Rogers wireless, one of the most expensive carriers in Canada.
I’v e called Apple who ran a diagnostic on the phone, found nothing wrong with
it and suffice it to say, I”m going nuts. that

Hi Kerri,

Can you clarify where you find exactly the problem happens, I read this thread
and find it unclear. You say in a couple messages that you find it happens more
on earphones than with the speakerphone. Do you mean actually it happens more
if the Apple Earpods (the headset which comes with your iPhone is plugged in)
or do you mean it happens more when the phone is held up against your ear and
the sound is coming from what would be the earpiece on a regular phone, e.g.
the speaker that is built into the phone and which is against your ear?

If so, have you tried to use it with an actual headset?

It might be better if you test it with Voiceover turned off altogether. Without
Voiceover calls do not switch automatically between external speaker and
internal speaker. You can turn off Voiceover while you are on a call as long as
you have set the triple click home to turn off Voiceover.

If it is happening more with a wired headset connected, then I would say the
problem is maybe the headset itself.

Sieghard

just recently purchased an unlocked 6 from Apple. I had thought about going to
the AT&T store and paying off the Next plan on my 6 plus, as well as getting
the 64 GB 6 from them, but opted to leave the Next in place for now and just
buy online directly from Apple.

Since my new 6 is unlocked, I'm reasonably sure I can put my AT&T sim card in
the phone and restore from my iCloud backup. But, how will doing this affect
the two credit cards I now have in Apple Pay on my iPhone 6 plus? I'm guessing
they will stay on the plus, but will I be able to also add them on my 6, as I'm
figuring they won't just transfer over.

As a side note, this time, my iPhone was shipped from here in the States, from
Tennessee, rather than from China as was my iPhone 6 plus. I ordered it this
past Sunday and was scheduled to get it Tuesday, but it didn't arrive until
today because of the bad weather we've been having lately.

Re: lag while using Bluetooth headset

2015-02-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I used to notice such a lag in older bluetooth devices. I think older
bluetooth devices and protocols were a bit quick to turn off the
speakers to save energy. You then had a bit of a lag when VoiceOver
would start talking and the speakers would need to be powered up first.
Sighted users wouldn't have noticed this so much because with streaming
audio the speakers are never shutdown. I haven't noticed this with my
last few bluetooth speakers and headphones. I think with better
batteries and more energy efficient protocols, devices don't need to be
as aggressive in shutting down the speakers and managing power consumption.

deal with? Does this happen with some or all headsets?

Its all depends. If you have VO focus on the last message on the
messenger app, when there is new message coming in, vo will read that
new message itself as the last old message will be pushed up.

Re: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

2015-02-19 Thread Charles Rivard
I figure that, to eliminate confusion and clutter, if you sell your phone, why
not remove it from your iTunes account? As an example, I have two iPhones
named identically. I could tell which is which by the date beside each.

Neal,

Maybe I missed something but when I got my new iPhone 6 at the beginning of
this month, I never did anything to remove my old iPhone 5 from iTunes. ITunes
uses the same label to refer to both phones and now my Alan's iPhone refers to
my iPhone 6 where before it referred to my 5. Since I was using iTunes to
restore one of my 5's backups to my new phone, I did not want to remove any

Everything seems to be working just fine in iTunes.

Enjoy your new phone.

Hi, I will be getting my iPhone 6 next week, so I did some exploring to
see if I knew how to add it to iTunes and delete the old one sometime later. I
went to My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes
12.1.1, I see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an
add button and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest
iTunes, or am I not in the right place to do this. Using JAWS 16.

Thanks much.

I've not been following this entire thread but one thing I always do when
purchasing a new phone is to give it a unique name from any of my other phones
or devices.

For example Mark's iPHone 6 Plus, Mark's iPHone 5 S, etc.

I do this so that each phone has its own unique sync and backup profile.

Subject: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

Hi, I will be getting my iPhone 6 next week, so I did some exploring to see
if I knew how to add it to iTunes and delete the old one sometime later. I
went to My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes
12.1.1, I see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an
add button and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest
iTunes, or am I not in the right place to do this. Using JAWS 16.

Thanks much.

Neal

I would think that, if you so choose, as long as everything's working on your
new phone, you could remove the old one. I may do that if I sell my iPhone 5.

Since I was using iTunes to
restore one of my 5's backups to my new phone, I did not want to remove any
devices.

Everything seems to be working just fine in iTunes.

  Enjoy your new phone.

RE: Possible to copy text from a Safari webpage?

2015-02-19 Thread Alan Lemly
I do like the 3-finger quadruple tap to copy VoiceOver's last spoken output
to the clipboard. Unfortunately, I don't think it will work for my Safari
webpage issue because those pages are usually in segments or chunks and I
think this gesture only copies the last-spoken chunk. When I tried playing
with it on a webpage after doing the 2-finger swipe down to read everything,
all that was copied were the menu buttons across the bottom of the screen
which were the last thing spoken.

Hi, you can always do a three finger quadruple tap and it will copy what
voice over read to the clipboard. If you want to read everything that is on
the reader, do a two finger swipe down and then do a three finger quadruple
tap.

Apple Pay with two phones

2015-02-19 Thread Vicky Collins

Does anyone know how Apple Pay works when one has two iPhones.

As you might recall, I purchased my iPhone 6 plus 16 GB when the
phones were first available. But, wanting to try the 6, as well
as get a 64 GB model, I just recently purchased an unlocked 6
from Apple. I had thought about going to the AT&T store and
paying off the Next plan on my 6 plus, as well as getting the 64
GB 6 from them, but opted to leave the Next in place for now and
just buy online directly from Apple.

Since my new 6 is unlocked, I'm reasonably sure I can put my AT&T
sim card in the phone and restore from my iCloud backup. But,
how will doing this affect the two credit cards I now have in
Apple Pay on my iPhone 6 plus? I'm guessing they will stay on the
plus, but will I be able to also add them on my 6, as I'm
figuring they won't just transfer over.

As a side note, this time, my iPhone was shipped from here in the
States, from Tennessee, rather than from China as was my iPhone 6
plus. I ordered it this past Sunday and was scheduled to get it
Tuesday, but it didn't arrive until today because of the bad
weather we've been having lately.

Re: Most accessible instant chat app FOR I OS

2015-02-19 Thread TaraPrakash
II find skype so much more convenient than messenger. FB messenger keeps
throwing me to the areas I don't need. Like, it would take me somewhere in the
middle of the chat session out of the blue, even if I just want to know only

The other drawback with messenger is that it does not read aloud the messages
automatically. I todesn't even play a sound if your focus is on the
application. The sound is played only if the phone is locked, I mean the keypad
is locked or if you are in some other application.
skype has issuestoo, but it does not randomly throw you to previous messages.

Re: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

2015-02-19 Thread Alan Lemly

Since I was using iTunes to
restore one of my 5's backups to my new phone, I did not want to remove any
devices.

Everything seems to be working just fine in iTunes.

Enjoy your new phone.

Re: Adding a card to Apple Pay

2015-02-19 Thread Vicky Collins
When I scanned my second card, it actually did pick up the
expiration date, but not the security code. I then got the
message about calling my bank to verify or authorize or whatever.
However, since I couldn't actually read the credit card numbers
scanned in, and could only read the expiration date, I canceled
out and entered everything in manually, just to be sure, and then
called my bank. The first time I called, they told me things
were set up for Apple Pay, but they were not, for some reason, so
I had to make a second call.

- Original Message -
From: "Lois Butterfield" When you scan your card, the only thing that scans is the card
number. You then have to put in the expiration date and security
code. Once that is all done, you will likely see a message about
needing to verify with the bank. With mine, there was a phone
number I could call to verify the card. Of course, they will
expect you to read out the whole number, and I had to have
someone read it to me after all that trouble to try it on my own.

That was my experience anyway. Best of luck.

Re: Apple accessibility support

2015-02-19 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
About the survey it's possible that you can get the buttons to work if you
scroll until the buttons are visible. Somehow the swiping or even using rotor
does not always bring focus to the desired form field. So use 3 fingers flick
up or down until you can find the button by exploring the screen with your
finger. When you have found it you can do a split tap or a double tap and you
might have better luck. In some surveys I have had to use the 3 finger flick
left and right because the row of buttons was longer than the width of the
iphone. definitely something to notify them about.HTH,Ioana

Mary, mine did not come linked to my Amazon account. You can link it under

Hi Rick,
Well, my husband just got his invitation to buy the echo. I do have one
question. Is it automatically linked to your account? Or do you have to link
it? In other words, if I wanted linked to my account with my music, because I
am the one most interested in the device, can that be done? Or is it going to
be linked to his account and that's it?

iTunes and music on my phone

2015-02-19 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello all,
I got a new laptop and after installing iTunes, I proceeded to sync and backup

Chris Chaffin

Re: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

2015-02-19 Thread Charles Rivard
My situation is different, because I'm using JAWS 15 and iTunes 12.1.3.

You are in the right place.

Below, I paste what my exploration shows. I hope this gives an idea of the
layout that you're apparently not able to see with your setup:

Remove
iPhone (Charles_Rivard's_verizon_ iPhone)

Associated January 15, 2013
Remove
iPhone (Charles_Rivard's_verizon_ iPhone)

Associated February 10, 2015
Remove
Windows PC (D4FY50L1)

Associated September 9, 2014

The first was my iPhone 5, the second is my iPhone6, and the third is my laptop
computer. So, I'm figuring that if you're seeing two remove buttons, the first
is your current iPhone and the second is your computer. When you get your
phone next week, that phone will become the top remove button once authorized.

Hi, I will be getting my iPhone 6 next week, so I did some exploring to see
if I knew how to add it to iTunes and delete the old one sometime later. I went
to My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes 12.1.1,
I see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an add button
and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest iTunes, or am
I not in the right place to do this. Using JAWS 16.

  Thanks much.

Apple accessibility support

2015-02-19 Thread Kim Samco
Hello,

I recently spent time withAAS and I'm amazed with the level of support. The
teck was on the phone with me for more than 1.5 hours, was pleasant,
encouraging, clear communicator, and knowledgable and most importantly solved
my problem.

Last week I wrote to this list that my finger gestures seemed to have a mind f
their own. The issue was thatthe 5s I dropped in the water had issues with
it's IOS and when I set up the new 5s I installed the problem from the damaged
5s. So far the gestures are working great. the tech even called me back the
next day to see if things were OK.

Here's my problem, I'd like to complete the survey Apple sent but I can't get
the buttons indicating my choice to activate. I've tried with and with hard
keyboard, used the roter to select buttons and it still tells me that my choice
is not selected. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kim

Re: female voice of Siri has lost its expressiveness

2015-02-19 Thread Charles Rivard
It could be part of the reason why it sounds different, but I do notice that it
reads with more of a mono tone now. I hadn't even noticed this because I use
the male voice, which has not changed. I switched out of curiosity, and did
notice the change, although I haven't used the female voice since around 7.0.

OK, here is a theory. Although I have no way to compare the two Siri female
voices, as I listen to the new one, especially through very good headphones, I
think they have lowered the pitch of the voice. There is more resonance in the
female voice than there used to be, at least as I remember. So, I wonder, I
said this was a theory, if Apple did this intentionally to make it easier for
people who are hard of hearing to better hear the female voice. Of course, I
don’t know if this is the case, but I think it may be an end result even if
Apple didn’t intend it.

Neil, the best way that I can describe it, other than saying that it sounds

just doesn't have the same inflection that used to prior to iOS 8 .1 .3. I hope
this further explanation helps.

Hi,

I’m well aware of what all of the voices offered by Apple sound like as I’m
well acquainted with them all.

I can not replicate this on any device I own at all. And thanks for the
clarification I think when reporting things it’s important to distinguish
between broken and having changed. the clearer we can be when communicating
with any company with which we deal the better our end result will be even if
it isn’t the one we intend to achieve.

Thanks for the link. No, it's not broken, it just sounds flat now, try the
mail voice and you will see exactly what I'm talking about. The mail voice is
absolutely fine, you can ask it a question and it's very expensive, very
energetic, but the female voice has lost all of that. I hope that makes better
sense.and sorry, that should've said expressive not expensive.

2015-02-19 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi, I will be getting my iPhone 6 next week, so I did some exploring to see
if I knew how to add it to iTunes and delete the old one sometime later. I
went to My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes
12.1.1, I see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an
add button and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest
iTunes, or am I not in the right place to do this. Using JAWS 16.

Thanks much.

Re: Adding a card to Apple Pay

2015-02-19 Thread Lois Butterfield
Hi,

When you scan your card, the only thing that scans is the card number. You
then have to put in the expiration date and security code. Once that is all
done, you will likely see a message about needing to verify with the bank.
With mine, there was a phone number I could call to verify the card. Of
course, they will expect you to read out the whole number, and I had to have
someone read it to me after all that trouble to try it on my own.

That was my experience anyway. Best of luck.

Re: Scrub Gesture

2015-02-19 Thread Michelle Bernstein
Take your second and third fingers of your right hand and hold them
together, move in a straight line from left to right,
then take these two fingers and go down in a diagonal motion from right to
left and then after you make this diagonal motion and are back again on the
right side,
go again with these two fingers in a straight line from left to right.
You are making the letter z. Practice this slowly in three separate
movements until you feel confident to make these motions in
a continuous fashion. You can practice this in the Voiceover Practice
section in the Accessibility part of your device.

RE: Amazon echo iOS app

For what it might be worth, the Echo app says Family Sharing is available.
I don't have the Echo, so can't speak to whether it is tied to the account of
the purchaser.
I have found Amazon Customer service to be pretty responsive.

Hi Rick,
Well, my husband just got his invitation to buy the echo. I do have one
question. Is it automatically linked to your account? Or do you have to link
it? In other words, if I wanted linked to my account with my music, because I
am the one most interested in the device, can that be done? Or is it going to
be linked to his account and that's it?
