Re: VoiceOver draining battery since 10.1 update

I did the Restore phone to factory settings and retrieved all my apps. My phone
only dropped 5% of battery power in 8 hours.
Problem solved!

No 2 finger double-tap on watch?

2016-10-31 Thread Robin Christopherson
Ioana

The two finger magic tap does work but only when you’re in the Now Playing
screen. Get to this by pressing the Dock button on the side of the watch and
choosing ‘Now Playing’. If you don’t see it there then play something on your
phone using either the Music app or any app that plays media and then bring up
the dock again and it should be the first item. When it’s open the two finger
magic tap works to play/pause. I agree that it’s a shame it doesn’t work
everywhere.

Thanks, Robin

But unfortunately for me, it is.

So I was looking at the Amazon tv Firestick.

Does anyone on this list know much about this thing?

If not, could someone kindly direct me to a list, where there are blind

Also, is this device accessible at all?

If so, by how much? Will only part of it talk?

Would I be able to download apps?

Also, from what I read, it mentioned that you can get a subscription to

So if I got a subscription on the Firestick, wouldn't it likely not be

Any help with this, or thoughts on the matter, would be very much

Thank you for reading, and letting me make comparisons.

The Voice View is very nice, same voice that is on the Echo. In fact I have
some echo capabilities on it because it has Alexa and I can use it with
music, for instance.

Just saying, not wanting to start anything, grin. I have also heard that
voice to speech capability may be coming to the roku.

That would be nice.

Hello Jan,
It sounds to me like you have done all that you could do to try to get
the phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is
connected to WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after
resetting network settings? Are you able to launch and browse the
Internet with Safari? You might want to try disabling cellular data
and seeing if you could do the update this way. That way you are sure
that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular data in
settings/cellular.
If you still receive the same message, you will have to reset the
phone as new again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

the phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is

connected to WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after

resetting network settings? Are you able to launch and browse the

Internet with Safari? You might want to try disabling cellular data

and seeing if you could do the update this way. That way you are sure

that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular data in

settings/cellular.

If you still receive the same message, you will have to reset the

phone as new again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

low power mode question

2016-10-31 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. What would be the drawbacks to keeping the phone on low power mode?
I'm running IOS 10 with 10.1. I'm using it to conserve battery, and
everything seems to be working well, at least on my WIFI network. Haven't
tried when I'm away from home yet. Thanks.

God bless!

How did you set up the account on your PC? Is there a link to do so on the

your PC? Do you still download and install the TWC app on your phone?
Sorry for all the questions -- I appreciate your answers and list input very

Also then once I have this app installed how then do I set it up?
Like what all user information do I need to enter in the app so I can use

I have

phone, it was just after the release of Ios 10. I then did a clean

redownloaded the apps I needed from the app store, not using an old

So, short from setting it up as a new phone again, would there be

Subject: Strange Problems Getting the NantMobile Money Reader

I’m having some very strange issues getting the NantMobile Money Reader.
I have an iPad Mini 4, and I downloaded the app with iTunes last night, but it
won't transfer to my iPad. I downloaded the Google Search app the night before
last, (thanks to Jonathan for showing that it works better than Siri on one of
his recent Explosions), and it transfered just fine using iTunes. And, this
morning, I bought the Hourly News app for $1 with iTunes, and it also
transfered just fine.
So I'm a bit mystified. I've been able to install apps using iTunes prior to
and after the NantMobile Money Reader, but not that one. Is there a way to make
iTunes forget that I downloaded the app so I can try it again? Right now the
download button is disabled. I've connected my iPad to my laptop several times,
and every time, iTunes says that it's synchronizing, and makes that sound when
it's done, but the app doesn't appear.
But that’s not the end of it. Things get stranger.
I tried to find the app with my iPad directly, thinking that if iTunes won't
transfer it, I could install it that way. I've done it with the BARD app and
the free version of the Tunein app with no problems.
I can't find it. I did a search on the app store with no results. I tried the
name exactly as it appears, entering carefully and checking it several times,
NantMobile Money Reader, and when that didn't yield any results, I tried just
Mobile Money Reader with some results, but not the money reader.
I am now more mystified than ever.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks very much.

and every time, iTunes says that it's synchronizing, and makes that sound when
it's done, but the app doesn't appear.

Evan

Hello Jan,
Now that iOS 10.1.1 has been released, you may want to try again.
Perhaps you will be able to download the update this time.
Good luck.

As it stands now you need a subscription to access the major networks. But by
the beginning of next year we will have multiple streaming options.
Google is coming out with what they call "google unplugged". They claim to
already signed a deal with CBS, Hulu can't even say that. they claim to have
all the disney and ESPN channels, along with fox and NBC networks.
Hulu claims to have a streaming service coming, and says there's will be priced
with all compitition.
SlingTV already has a streaming app, but it's not very accessible, and
depending on your area, the feed is a bit choppy at best.
Now, directv says there's will be ready by the end of the year, and claim they
will offer over 100 channels, even wants there current customers to eventually
migrate to the directv now app, so they can cut out technicians and equipment.
They also are trying to buy time warner, so we will see how this all plays out.
I hope directv does launch there app soon, cause rumor has it, they will offer
the sunday ticket for the Nfl as a stand alone package too. Guess we will see.

I am still stuck in a cable contract but hope to cut the cord when it is up.

I am still confused about apple tv and what it can do.

Can I cut the cord as far as tv and phone and keep my internet to use apple tv?
Or do I still need a cable subscription to use it?

My wife has favorite shows on he 4 major networks as well as tlc, Lifetime, and
Hallmark movie channel. I am interested in the mlb network.

With apple tv, are all these choices available?

With apple tv do you need apps from each network, or does hulu or netflicks
allow access to most everything?

What is the delay time in obtaining a show? If survivor is on cbs this
wednesday, when can a apple tv userr get it?

Can apple tv be used with apps already on our other apple devices?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Is this a good price for an Apple TV?

2016-10-31 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everybody,

I found a deal on Best Buy for a 64 gig Apple TV. I was wondering if this was
really a good deal, or not. The unit is refurbished, but this does not bother
me.

They are asking $470.

What do you all think? I'm sorry, that was supposed to be, they are asking for
$170.
What do you all think? Is this deal worth it?
I unfortunately got installed the Best Buy app, because I find it to be a bit
of a pain to use.
However, it had all of my information. Now that I have reinstalled it, of
course all of that is gone. So now I have to do that part all over again, which
is rather irritating!

I would like to purchase this, but only if it is really a good deal. If not. I
would use to wait. I think that would be better.

Can you help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Apple TV, another one

2016-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gordan,

Apple TV is very limited right now, it does not replace cable or satellite.
There are a lot of channels in the US you can watch via Apple TV, but in order
to do so you still need to have access to these channels already via cable or
satellite. I am in Canada and even here it is more limited still in many ways.
This is still all very fragmented and while I’m sure Apple would like to offer
all these channels, it means making deals with the content providers who own
these channels.

Hi!

I see some discussions on Apple TV but I have some more questions considering
the fact I don't live in the US, Canada or UK.

What we have here is some digital TV channels over the air which you can watch
using the air antenna and some cable/adsl operators providing packages of
channels for monthly subscription. For most operators we need to have
analog/digital HD receivers patched via analog or HDMI through TV sets.

I already know I can't use the Apple TV over the air, there's no way to receive
digital signal from the air. I wonder is it possible to use Apple TV instead of
receivers offered by TV operators or it is just limited to internet streams?

Thanks!

What kind of apps can be put on the new Apple TV?

2016-10-31 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello once more everybody,

I realize it is a personal choice as to what you put on your Apple TV.
But I was just wondering, what type of apps do you aren't used to have on your
new Apple TV?
Of course, I have subscriptions to Hulu, Netflix, and CBS all access. So I know
that they are likely already there, just like they are on my Apple TV I have
now.
But I was wondering, what other types of TV apps can I add?
And are there fees for these apps? If so about how much do they run, or does it
just depend on the app itself? Now personally, I don't want games, music,
audiobooks, or anything like that on my AppleTV. This is just my personal
choice. This is why I choose to have the iPad mini. So if there are other apps
out there that might be enjoyable, that deal with TV, or movies, then I would
really love to hear about them. I do not have cable, so subscriptions to some
of my favorite shows are possible. This makes me sad. Any help with any of this
would be great! I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Adding contacts to favourites

2016-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Andrew,

I just went through the same thing as my iPhone 6S Plus was replaced on
warranty and I set the replacement phone up as a new phone, then updated it (it
still had 9.0.2 on it) and then I added my email accounts, contacts etc.
Anyhow, here is what you do:

Go into the contact you want to add to Favorites
Double tap on Add to Favorites
The “Add to Favorites” menu pops up and you probably have something like this:
Message, mobile or maybe you have Message, iPhone
Call, Mobile or Call, iPhone
Mail

If you listen closely when you swipe to where it says “Call” you will notice
that Voiceover says “Actions available”. This means the action rotor is
present. Swipe down and you will hear “Show Options”. Double tap on that and
you now see all numbers available for the contact and you can pick the one you
want to add as a favorite.
The same goes once you have a number added to Favorites. There used to be a
“More Info” button to the right of the numbers and this opened the contact and
you could pick another number, now you have to swipe down on the Favorite to
accomplish this.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,

I am using an iPhone 7 running iOS10.

I have a few contacts who have several numbers, an iPhone, home, and work
number. I am in a position where I would like to take one of these contacts
and add all three of these numbers to my favourite contacts. Unfortunately the
only one it seems to allow me to add is the iPhone number. Does anyone know
how I accomplish adding the other two numbers to favourites? I was able to do
this on my iPhone5S running iOS9.

Many thanks,

Well, I wouldn't do it. That's not that much cheaper than the new one. And if
money is a problem, you could get the 32 GB one new for cheaper, and probably
cheaper than that refurbished. You probably will not need the 64 GB model. Just
don't download screen savers that you can't look at. Apps are not large. We
have the 32 GB model, and we are nowhere near running out of space. Just my
opinion.

Hello Jan,
It sounds to me like you have done all that you could do to try to get the
phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is connected to
WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after resetting network
settings? Are you able to launch and browse the Internet with Safari? You might
want to try disabling cellular data and seeing if you could do the update this
way. That way you are sure that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular
data in settings/cellular.
If you still receive the same message, you will have to reset the phone as new
again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

Did you try a Reset Network Settings first, this often will fix battery issues
and it leaves all your apps and settings alone, all you have to do is sign back

I’m currently doing a complete restore of my iPhone, which means I’ll have to
download all the Navigon maps and fix other settings.
The problem occurred at home with a good connexion to our network. I find it
interesting that turning VoiceOver off cures the problem, so the internet
connexion couldn’t be the issue.

the App Switcher: Kobo and Audible.
With VoiceOver active but the screen locked, the battery drain was between 4

I then turned VoiceOver off and locked the screen. After an hour, there was no

I Therefore conclude that VoiceOver is draining my battery.

I’ve reported this to Apple Accessibility.

What do you all think? Is this deal worth it?
I unfortunately got installed the Best Buy app, because I find it to be a bit

However, it had all of my information. Now that I have reinstalled it, of

I would like to purchase this, but only if it is really a good deal. If not. I

Can you help with this would be very much appreciated.

more updates, as that usually makes things better. Even if you have to wait for
another update, to get some bugs fixed sometimes.

But what I don't really understand is, why they are offering these newer Apple
TVs with all this space. I mean, if you want everything to stream from your TV,
set of books, and games, and the like, then that makes sense. But I don't, as I
have said before. So I guess this must put me in the minority.

If I get a 32 gig model, I don't know what to put on it. I don't know how to
make it useful. I'm really confused here. Maybe I am overthinking it, but that
is just how I am, and who I am. That's not an easy thing to change about one's
self.

Thank you for understanding, and reading this message. And again, thank you so
very much for the advice.

Just my

Now that iOS 10.1.1 has been released, you may want to try again.
Perhaps you will be able to download the update this time.
Good luck.

Hello Jan,
It sounds to me like you have done all that you could do to try to get
the phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is
connected to WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after
resetting network settings? Are you able to launch and browse the
Internet with Safari? You might want to try disabling cellular data
and seeing if you could do the update this way. That way you are sure
that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular data in
settings/cellular.
If you still receive the same message, you will have to reset the
phone as new again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

iOS 10.1.1 Is Now Available:

2016-10-31 Thread Gary Bowers
forbes.com
Apple iOS 10.1.1 Is Now Available: What Is Included In The Update?
Amit Chowdhry
Apple has released iOS 10.1.1 to the general public today. The iOS 10.1.1
update comes one week after iOS 10.1 was released. The reason why Apple
quickly issued this software update is because it fixes a bug that Forbes
contributor Gordon Kelly reported exclusively last week. Apple declined to
reply to requests to acknowledge the bug until now. You can install iOS
10.1.1 by connecting your device to iTunes or downloading it by going to
Settings > General > Software Update. The iOS 10.1.1 update is available for
the following devices: iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later and
iPod touch 6th generation and later.
What Is Included In The Update?
The software update is relatively small at under 70MB, which indicates that
it is a minor update with a few bug fixes. There weren’t any betas of iOS
10.1.1 either. And the changelog of the iOS 10.1.1 software update
says: “This update fixes bugs including an issue where Health data could not
be viewed for some users.”
There were many complaints about health data not being visible following the
iOS 10.1.1 update within the Apple Communities forum so it is a relief that
Apple turned around a fix in a short amount of time:

And Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly said that he was contacted by many
people directly “with stories of hours spent on the phone to Apple tech
support, all without resolution.” Many Twitter users also said that they
attempted to reboot and factory reset the devices, but the Health app data
did not reappear:

iOS 10.1 was somewhat of a major update. iOS 10.1 included a “Portrait”
mode, which helps make the most out of the dual cameras in the iPhone 7
Plus. The Portrait camera mode essentially utilized the wide-angle and
telephoto iPhone 7 lenses in a way to create portraits with depth effects.
This makes the subjects of the photos look sharp while also creating blurred
backgrounds, known as “bokeh” effects. iOS 10.1 also included Transit
directions for Apple Maps in Japan. And iOS 10.1 also added a “Reduce
Motion” setting for the Bubble and Screen effects in the Messages app.

In the app description of NantMobile Money Reader, it says the following:

Twenty one currencies are supported: the US Dollar, Australian Dollar,
Bahraini Dinar, Brazilian Real, Belarusian Ruble, British Pound, Canadian
Dollar, Euro, Hungarian Forint, Israeli Shekel, Indian Rupee, Japanese Yen,
Kuwaiti Dinar, Mexican Peso, New Zealand Dollar, Polish Zloty, Russian
Ruble, Saudi Arabian Riyal, Singapore Dollar, and United Arab Emirates
Dirham.

It looks like the Peru currency is not supported, only the Brazilian Real.

If you know anyone in the countries you are visiting, you could ask them if
they have any apps in their stores. It is likely that the currency will be
identifiable by touch, but I don't know. I know the United States, where I
live, is not distinguishable by touch, but many, many other countries are.

Good luck,

That's strange. I've never had voicemail disappear on me, nor emails. I do make
certain to do an encrypted backup in iTunes before updating to any iOS version,
however. I would recommend doing so. Also, do you have visual voicemail
enabled, or are you using your carrier's voicemail option? I don't think using
your carrier's voicemail option would make any difference, but ever since I got
my first iPhone, I've always used the visual voicemail option, and it's worked
well for me.

FYI, you don't know when you are at the end level because you just keep
having to shoot more zombies and no next level comes up. So, when you hit a
level that lasts much longer than the previous ones, you are probably at the
end. Note the last line below from the description:

Description

Zombies from out of space invaded earth. Took all the women, good food and
Jack's rubber ducky. Jack sets out on a zombie killing rampage to get back
his rubber ducky so he can take a bath. Armed with a shotgun, machete and
surrounded by zombies, Jack is certain to introduce those
rubber-ducky-stealing alien zombies to a world of pain!

There's only one problem: Jack is blind. Use your hearing to locate the
zombies before they attack. Pull the trigger or machete the hell out of 'm
to retake Jack’s rubber ducky.

Hi,
I tried it as well. Despite the warning messages of compatibility, it works
on the 5S, with 10.1. As a matter of interest, I got as far as level 6.

If you have not tried Where's My Rubber Ducky, and you have an iPhone, give it
a try. It is a Zombie shooting game. Be sure and read the description. It
requires GPS as you have to actually turn the phone to get the zombie in the

Re: Tune-in question, possible problem

2016-10-31 Thread Monica Jones
The thing I don't like about TuneIn is that it no longer has any of the
Nashville stations that are local to me. It has our Murfreesboro station
where I live but it's talk radio. OoTunes still has them all, even though
that app hasn't been updated in forever. Perhaps the developer thinks if it
ain't broke, don't fix it. But, yes, you should be able to search by city.
Last time I searched TuneIn, not to long ago, I could search by city. I
don't use it much so don't remember the exact steps.

Subject: Tune-in question, possible problem

Hello everyone,

I have Tune-in on my Ipad Mini. I really enjoy it, and have for some
time now. I have a premium package. I think it is the one that is about
6, or 7 dollars a month.

Anyway, I was hoping to listen to some stations from within the area I
grew up. I didn't think I could search by city, but I knew I could see
stations within the state. I thought I went to local stations, and then
chose country, and all that. But I haven't done this in a while.

So I was wondering, is this still possible to do?

If so, what are the steps to do it?

And can you search for a city and state? Or only by station?

Thank you for any help.

Terri

In the app description of NantMobile Money Reader, it says the following:

Twenty one currencies are supported: the US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Bahraini
Dinar, Brazilian Real, Belarusian Ruble, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Euro,
Hungarian Forint, Israeli Shekel, Indian Rupee, Japanese Yen, Kuwaiti Dinar,
Mexican Peso, New Zealand Dollar, Polish Zloty, Russian Ruble, Saudi Arabian
Riyal, Singapore Dollar, and United Arab Emirates Dirham.

Good luck,

Well, thanks to your suggestion, I changed the search to iPhone Only, and I was

But unfortunately neither of them works. I waved a dollar bill in front of my
camera repeatedly while each app was running and it said nothing. I know the
camera works because I opened TapTapSee immediately after trying Eyenote and
the NantMobile Reader, and the camera works fine.

I guess I’ll have to wait for these apps to be updated before I can identify

Evan

There are many audio games.
Ticon Blu has done Audeo Rally Racing and
another racing game. They also have adventure
games called The Inquisator
and a hidden
object game called She Noire. Codename Cygnus, probably
spellt
wrong, is another audio adventure
game where you are a secret agent. Of
course, there are the Something Else LTD games
like Papa Sangre II and Audio
Defence.
There are lots of audio games out there and I expect many
more will
appear over the next couple of
years.

Evan

Re: Is this a good price for an Apple TV?

2016-10-31 Thread Mary Otten
You have a lot more apps on yours than I do on mine. I don't have any sleep
apps or music apps. I have sleep app on my iPhone and my iPad, but since the
Apple TV is in a place where I don't sleep, I don't have any of those. We don't
have any games. My husband wasn't interested. That's why I didn't get a 64 GB.
So most of the apps I have are the usual things Netflix, PBS, TV watching and
news apps. I am sure we will end up getting another Apple TV before we fill
this one out.

Trivia Game For Apple TV

2016-10-31 Thread MamaPeach
I have found a great trivia game for the Apple TV. It is called Super Trivia
Challenge. It is sort of set up like Jeopardy with five categories with values
of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 points per question. At first you don’t know what
the categories are but if you do a two finger swipe up once the categories are
loaded, VoiceOver will read what the categories are. When you click on an
amount, a question is read aloud by VoiceOver, simply move up or down to read
the four choices and then click on the one you think is correct. The questions
are very challenging, but I am able to play this game with no sighted
assistance whatsoever.

Maps app in iOS 10.1

2016-10-31 Thread Todd Patkus
All:

I noticed the Maps app shows only street names rather than city names.

For example, it would say like this:

I-49 Stonewall

But not:

i-49 Alexandria

Or not even the full address!

Has any of you had this experience?

Thank y'all.

As it stands now you need a subscription to access the major networks. But by
the beginning of next year we will have multiple streaming options.
Google is coming out with what they call "google unplugged". They claim to
already signed a deal with CBS, Hulu can't even say that. they claim to have all the
disney and ESPN channels, along with fox and NBC networks.

Subject: apple tv confusion

Have you rebooted since install? I ask because sometimes Money Reader goes into

Good luck.

Well, thanks to your suggestion, I changed the search to iPhone Only, and I was
able to download both apps.

But unfortunately neither of them works. I waved a dollar bill in front of my
camera repeatedly while each app was running and it said nothing. I know the
camera works because I opened TapTapSee immediately after trying Eyenote and
the NantMobile Reader, and the camera works fine.

I guess I’ll have to wait for these apps to be updated before I can identify
any money with them.

Evan

Re: Backing Up Multiple iThings in iTunes with Different Apple IDs?

2016-10-31 Thread Carla Savage
Hi Danny,
Yes, there is a way. I have created mutiple iTunes libraries on my laptop. That
way, you can back them up. To create a new library, hold down the shift key
before pressing enter on the iTunes icon on your desktop. You get presented
with a dialogue and one of the options is to create a new library. Press space
or enter on that and title it with whatever you wish. Then you're good to go.
If you want to switch back to another library, just exit out of iTunes and
press and hold the shift key and press enter on the iTunes icon again and
choose your library you want to switch back too.
Hope this helps,
Carla.

Re: Problems updating iPhone 6 over the air to ios 10.1

2016-10-31 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi all
Just to let you all know that I have now succeeded with my download of ios
10.1. I have tried so many times, and last night when I tried again, it
actually downloaded the update and I could install it after that. Why it would
not work for so many times, I just do not know. Thank you for all the
suggestions. It is good to know that there are so many knowledgeable people
out there and also people willing to share their knowledge and help.

Hello Jan
I do not know if it will help but a few updates ago my 5S did the same
trick. For some reason I decided to go into the privacy setting and I turned
automatic updates off. It used to be off so why it came on again I do not know
But after turning it off I could do the update. Why this caused the problem is
not clear.
