And currently you can buy an iPhone 8 for $800 not an iPhone 8 X but an iPhone
8 for 800 but yes all these also come with packages that you're required to buy
meaning of a service. Still the phone itself… either way it's still a lot of
money. If the cheapest iPhone I could buy was $1000 anywhere I looked, I would
go back to a regular mobile phone and buy some other device like an iPod or
something for a podcast listening and Internet browsing and those sorts of

And of course Apple has brought the SE back for $249 for the 32 gig
version and $299 for the 128. This will help keep them in the game
giving those who are working with a budget an opportunity to have an
iPhone. For years Android was so popular because you could get several
phones for under $100. I'm surprised that Apple hasn't introduced
something like that. But these Apple products are built to last, so that
$249 SE could last as long as several of the Androids under $100.

Hello everyone,

My subject says it all. I can not seem to lock my phone, when on a call. I am
using an iPhone XR, with the latest update.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
If so, is there anything that can be done about it? I assume not. But I figured
I would ask.
I can lock my phone when on a call, using my Bluetooth ear piece. But when on a
call, holding the phone to my ear, it can’t be done. If I try to do this, my
phone then goes to speaker.
Why could this be happening?

Thank you,

Terri

Not that it changes your argument, but the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 from
Google get 3 years of major Android updates and 3 years of security

Something like this will definitely put a lot of pressure on Apple to
make this year's iPhone much better than last year's model. Apple

isn't like that since they only give you two updates and three years

over time, where as android doesn't. So even if you don't get the latest
updates, you still have a phone as quick as it was the day you bought it.
You can't say that about apple.

Cheers,
Brett.

Since 2001, Apple has seen steady revenue growth:

Despite the revenue growth, Apple is selling fewer iPhones every year.

And of course Apple has brought the SE back for $249 for the 32 gig version and
$299 for the 128. This will help keep them in the game giving those who are
working with a budget an opportunity to have an iPhone. For years Android was
so popular because you could get several phones for under $100. I'm surprised
that Apple hasn't introduced something like that. But these Apple products are
built to last, so that
$249 SE could last as long as several of the Androids under $100.

RE: Can’t seem to lock my phone when on a call

2019-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The question is why would you want to lock your phone when you are on a call?
If you hold your phone to your ear and try to lock it, do you remove it from
your ear? If so that would explain why it goes to speaker, as soon as the
proximity sensor near the earpiece senses it is not close to anything it
switches to speakerphone.
Anyways, it's perfectly OK to ignore your phone while you are on a call,
chances are it may lock automatically after a while anyways.

Subject: Can’t seem to lock my phone when on a call

Hello everyone,

My subject says it all. I can not seem to lock my phone, when on a call. I am
using an iPhone XR, with the latest update.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
If so, is there anything that can be done about it? I assume not. But I figured
I would ask.
I can lock my phone when on a call, using my Bluetooth ear piece. But when on a
call, holding the phone to my ear, it can’t be done. If I try to do this, my
phone then goes to speaker.
Why could this be happening?

Thank you,

Terri

Re: The End Of Apple, Forbes Magazine

2019-01-22 Thread Mary Otten
With the release of iOS 12, this slow down issue was supposedly largely
mitigated, at least to the point it could be. I would rather have a phone that
I could use for several years, knowing that it would be up-to-date including
security, and deal with a little bit of slow down, then have a phone that maybe
gets one or possibly two updates at most. The trade-off simply isn’t worth it.
And I don’t know about the phones not slowing down. My husband had an HTC phone
for three years. At the time he purchased it, it was the flag ship. Not only
did not get security update after year too, he said it became sluggish and
weird stuff started happening. His words not mine. So he got another android
phone this last fall, paying huge dollars for Samsung note 9. And I will bet
you that in two years, that phone won’t be seeing updates, where as my iPhone
will be. So nuts on android as far as I’m concerned until they improve their
longevity.

How to Get Rid of Prompt When Deleting Text & What Does Hide Alert Mean

2019-01-22 Thread sherrywells1157
Hi All,

I finally updated my IPhone 5s to the newest version of IOS. Doing this
reinforced why I put it off as I had to go in & change a number of settings.
Used to be when I wanted to delete text messages, I would tap the one I
wanted to delete, swipe up for Delete then double tap to delete. Now I get
a message asking me if I am sure I want to delete the text. How can I get
rid of this prompt?

Secondly, now when I tap a text then swipe, I hear hide alert. I was hoping
this would get rid of the are you sure prompt but it does not. I thought
that maybe if I hide the alert, it would mean that I don't get notified if I
get another text from that person. After double tapping to hide alert, when
I touch that person, I hear muted. Yet I had someone text me, double tapped
on hide alert & had them text me again & I did get the ding saying I had
received a text. So does anyone know what hide alert does?

Thanks,
Sherry Wells

I am sorry to dispute what you say but I have a friend who had until very
recently used a Galaxy S5 which was so slow it was driving him crazy. When
he got his hands on a newer Android he could hardly believe the difference
in the speed.
I have owned IPhones for around eight years and as far as I can tell, all
smart phones are faster now because of the improved processors and it makes
the older phones seem even slower.I can believe that the older phones do
lose some of their performance just like a computer but the newer, faster
processors are a major factor in the newer phones.

The End Of Apple

"Oh man, that's almost a month's rent for me."
Here I am sitting in a cab in New York City.
I'm headed uptown to Columbia University where we'll hold the
first-ever American Disruption Summit. (You can register to watch for

of the latest Apple
(AAPL) iPhone.
He's shocked when I tell him the cheapest model is $1,149.
"Who can afford that?" he asks.

Apple's Imminent Crash Has Begun
Apple has had an incredible decade.
Since the iPhone debuted in 2007, the company's sales have jumped
tenfold.
The stock has soared over 700%.
And up until last November, it was the world's largest publicly
traded company.
But two weeks ago, Apple issued a rare warning that shocked investors.
For the first time since 2002, the company slashed its earnings
forecast.
The stock plunged 10% for its worst day in six years.
This capped off a horrible few months in which Apple stock crashed
about 35% from its November peak.
That erased $446 billion in shareholder value-the biggest wipeout
of wealth in a single stock ever.
And it's only the beginning.

Since 2001, Apple has seen steady revenue growth:
By this measure, Apple's business seems perfectly healthy. But
there's a secret hidden behind these headline numbers.
Despite the revenue growth, Apple is selling fewer iPhones every year.
In fact, iPhone unit sales peaked way back in 2015. Last year, Apple
sold 14 million fewer phones than it did three years ago.
Apple Kept Revenue Growth Only by Raising iPhone Prices In 2010, you
could buy a brand-new iPhone 4 for 199 bucks.
In 2014, the newly released iPhone 6 cost 299 bucks.
Today the cheapest model of the latest iPhone X costs $1,149!
It's a 500% hike from what Apple charged eight years ago.
But technology always gets cheaper over time.
Not so long ago, a flat-screen high-definition TV was a luxury. Even
a small one cost thousands of dollars. Today you can get a 55-inch
one from Best Buy for $500.
In 1984, Motorola sold the first cell phone for $4,000. The average

Re: Can't Delete A Voice Mail

2019-01-22 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Sherry,

Try restarting your phone, and then try deleting the voicemail again. If it
still won't delete, it's possible to call your voicemail manually; you might be
able to delete it from there. Contact your carrier to find out what number to
dial to check your voicemail manually.

Best,
Anna

RE: Can't Delete A Voice Mail

2019-01-22 Thread sherrywells1157
I've tried getting out of the app & going back in, shutting off the phone &
restarting & replaying the voice mail. None of this has worked. I had to call
Apple help today for a more serious problem so I asked them about this voice
mail. He said this was generally a problem with the provider. So I will take
Anna's suggestion & call Verizon to find out what number to call to access
voice mail. Hopefully I can delete it via phone.

Rotor and links

2019-01-22 Thread jennifer
Hi all

If I receive a text message that contains a link I am unable to tap on it. I
use to be able to do this no issues by selecting links via the rotor. I
ensured that links is turned on in roter settings, but still no go. What am
I missing.

Re: Rotor and links

2019-01-22 Thread Devin Prater
Does the link in the message say “link” before or after it? If so, you should
be able to move to the “links” rotor option and flick down. If not, you can
move the rotor to “actions”, flick down to “copy,” and double tap. This will
copy the whole message, but the link will be in there. Then, you can paste the
message into Notes, and edit out everything except the link, select all and
copy the link that way.

Ah that’s what it is.

Will try the copy method as in this particular message it did not say “link”
after the link.

Thanks

While this does recalibrate the battery "state of charge" computation, it
really isn't very good for the battery.
Under settings->battery->battery health you can see if the phone has
detected an issue (my 1+ old iPhoneX only has 95% now). Recalibration
won't make the battery healthier.

RE: IOS 12.1.3 is available

2019-01-22 Thread David Whitehead

for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update doesn’t contain any
new features, but it does fix a few frustrating

bugs that you might have experienced lately.

For me, the most noticeable among them has been “an issue in Messages that
could impact scrolling through photos in the Details view.” See, if you tap

on a contact’s name in a Messages conversation and then choose “info,” you’ll
be taken to the Details page. The bottom half of this screen shows you any

photos or videos you’ve exchanged with that person, which is a convenient way
of finding a certain image or just scrolling back though memories.

But in iOS 12.1.2, scrolling down beyond the first few images would result in a
glitchy mess with useless, blank file previews. It looked like this:

Apple says iOS 12.1.3 should fix this issue and show content properly as you
scroll down your shared media history. There’s a second photo-related bug

fix as well: the new update “addresses an issue where photos could have striped
artifacts after being sent from the Share Sheet.”

If you’ve got a new iPhone — the XR, XS, or XS Max — and have found that it can
unexpectedly disconnect from CarPlay when in your vehicle, iOS 12.1.3 should

get things working as expected again. And last, the update contains a fix for
2018 iPad Pro devices. Some users have reported hearing audio distortion

with plugged in external audio input devices. That distortion should now be
gone.

iOS 12.1.3 also includes HomePod bug fixes. If you own Apple’s smart speaker,
you shouldn’t need to worry about random restarts or Siri going unresponsive

when you’re trying to give a voice command.

Apple said it would put a large focus on performance and stability with iOS 12,
and though some bugs have still crept up, the release has certainly been

a success in that regard. Apps open quicker on aging iOS devices and things
just feel speedier all around. More significant new features likely await users

in iOS 13, which should be announced this coming June.

The impossible is the untried, Never under estimate the power of a
dream.

So, I just at this moment finished solving this for a student with whom I was
working. The answer is:
1. Go into settings, and turn airplane mode on 2. Go into voice mails and
delete the message that would not delete.

Now go turn airplance mode back to off, and it will remain gone.

Re: Help from Amazon Fwd: Your Amazon.com Inquiry

2019-01-22 Thread englishrider91
Ah, yes. I couldn't figure out what issue the original poster was talking
about, but I've noticed that, too. Also scrolling by heading is problematic.
It's irratic when scrolling down by heading. It consistantly skips the
description, at least. It's not always consistant where it goes, but scrolling
back up then down by heading works. It's temporary, though; you'll have to do
the workaround on each page you visit in the app. This also happens when you
accidentally scroll past the FAQ heading. If you try to scroll back up to that
heading, focus jumps up to a random heading.

Thanks,
Ari

Gld you got things working again. I don't use the table index, so I actually
forgot it was there. I just use the letter headings to move through my
contacts. It works well for me, but I'll have to give the table index a shot.

Thanks,

This should bring up a fairly "busy" page,

STORE: (this is all ringtones and alerts)

Unfortunately when in VoiceOver I only see

But if I 3 finger scroll up, I find the same layout as "visual" mode ...
but it seems to default to pretty far down (perhaps an artifact of

Fwd: iOS 12.1.3 change log

2019-01-22 Thread Richard Turner
Link to the web site is at the end:

iOS 12.1.3 Release Notes, Changelog And Other Changes You Need To Know About
By
Paul Morris
| January 22nd, 2019

If you happen to be the proud owner of iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and that
device is compatible with the latest firmware, then you will likely already
be well aware that Apple has pushed iOS 12.1.3 final out into the public
domain. That isn’t going to be news to you but the verbose overview of what’s
new, what’s improved, and what Apple has deemed fit to include with iOS 12.1.3
may be.

The release of iOS 12.1.3 shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. After
the issues that the company had with iOS 12.1.2, this release has been in
testing for a while both with Apple internal employees as well as external
developers and registered testers.

Now, after that period of testing, Apple is happy with the performance of the
software across all compatible devices and feels that it’s in a position
for public consumption. But, just what exactly is the public going to be
consuming?

The content contained within this release was originally destined to be part of
the original iOS 12.1.1 and 12.1.2 releases but got pushed back to this
release due to the increased importance of satisfying demands made by a Chinese
court over the alleged infringement of Qualcomm Inc. patents. However,
as the naming convention suggests, and as confirmed by investigation into this
release, there is very little happening from a user-facing and user interaction
perspective. This is very much a point release full of under-the-hood
improvements, bug fixes, and internal patches designed to streamline the
experience.
You can read Apple’s comments below:

This update:

– Fixes an issue in Messages that could impact scrolling through photos in the
Details view
– Addresses an issue where photos could have striped artifacts after being sent
from the Share Sheet
– Fixes an issue that may cause audio distortion when using external audio
input devices on iPad Pro (2018)
– Resolves an issue that could cause certain CarPlay systems to disconnect from
iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max

This release also includes bug fixes for HomePod. This update:

– Fixes an issue that could cause HomePod to restart
– Addresses an issue that could cause Siri to stop listening

RE: setting a different alarm sound in the native clock

2019-01-22 Thread Sherrie Gosling
The same thing happened to me. Open the clock app. Choose Add at the top.
Set up a new alarm timethat is not already included in your list. Choose sound
and then you can go through your songs or ring tones you have on the phone and
choose the one you want. Choose save.
When you set future alarms, even with Siri it will default to your last chosen
song or ring tone.
I think it may have defaulted away from my chosen ring tone because of the last
update I installed. I did not notice since I usually use many of the same
alarm times and they were already set to my preferred sound.

2019-01-22 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi Keith. I don’t know where to find visual mode. I see an edit prompt in the
clock app itself but all that seems to do is let me add an alarm. I can’t find
anything that says edit sounds. Probably I’m not looking in the right place. I
have checked in the regular settings menu and don’t find any way to set the
alarm sound there either. More detail would be helpful. Thanks.

Goodness, but I couldn't say how many times in a day I use Table Index - use it

Hi Sieghard, so from the last two nights I completely drain the battery to 0%

showing hundred percent charging
Year it is worth mentioning that from the last two nights I put it on charging

If you get a flagship Android phone you'll get two to three major OS
updates and not one to two as you state. If you get a cheaper budget
phone then you may get fewer updates. You'd also get fewer then four to
five updates if you get an older iPhone for less money.

Obviously if you plan to hold on to your phone for four or five years,
and major OS updates are important to you, then you'll definitely want
to consider the newest iPhone. There are quite a few people though who
update their phones more frequently then that, so two or three major OS
upgrades are plenty. I'm not saying Android phones shouldn't have a
longer shelf life, but this feature isn't critical for everyone.

I agree this article is using a mellow dramatic title to get some
clicks, and not all of it's facts are spot on, but it is pointing out a
real issue that I'm sure Apple executives are working hard to address.
Someone compared this to the situation with Microsoft from a few years
ago, but just as Microsoft had to remake themselves as a company and
move their revenue away from a desktop operating system, Apple needs to
make a similar transformation and generate revenue from sources other
then smart phone hardware sales.

RE: Battery usage.

2019-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, not really, not sure why it continues to say "charging" all iPhones I
have had which were iPhone 4, 4S, 5S, 6S Plus and now iPhone 8 go to "on AC
power" after they are plugged in for a while.
However, I don't think it's a big deal and if it happened to my iPhone I
probably wouldn't loose to much sleep over it.
I guess you could do a complete reset and set up as a new device and see if
that helps, but that seems an awful lot of trouble to go through for such a
minor issue which doesn't really affect performance.

RE: The End Of Apple, Forbes Magazine

2019-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Let's not forget that we should compare Apples to apples and not Apple's to
Oranges (pun intended).
If you want to compare phones like the iPhone XR or XS with Android phones you
have to compare them to high-end, flagship Android phones from Samsung, Google
or HTC and there are plenty of those which cost just as much as the iPhones.
But of course there are a ton of much less expensive Android phones which are
primarily geared for markets like India, the Philippines, Africa and even China
where there are Billions of people who will never in their life be able to
afford an iPhone or, for that matter, a top-of-the line Samsung or Google phone.

Something like this will definitely put a lot of pressure on Apple to
make this year's iPhone much better than last year's model. Apple
builds their products to last for a long time. If you take care of
them you could get five or more years out of a phone. Android really
isn't like that since they only give you two updates and three years
of security updates. If you currently have an iPhone 5S, you're still
in the game. However the Android phones that came out at the same time
are probably on their way to a recycling center.
