RE: keeping e-mail on my pc and looking at it on an I device

2021-04-16 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah because you are using pop rather than iMap

And your mail is being kept on the server,

So you download your mail on your computer and when you delete it after reading
it
It’s still on the server so when you look at your phone it’s not yet been read,

And same with the Hotmail servers
Your mail still sits there and is waiting to be removed,

Any new device you look at your email on, it will show the mail you read on
your mac mail,
And it will appear to be unread.

Actually I seem to be having problems with my email account. I notice after I
have read and deleted my emails using the Mail app on my Mac, I would have to
go onto the hotmail site and delete my messages from there. Otherwise on my
mail app on iPhone, my emails still appear and unread.

If your email on the phone is set as iMap, it will not remove them from the
server unless you set it to remove from server when you delete it on your phone.
Easy answer, do your deleting on the computer.
If your phone is set to use Pop3, you can go into the settings and tell it to
leave messages on the server.

RE: keeping e-mail on my pc and looking at it on an I device

2021-04-16 Thread Simon A Fogarty
With iMap
Your email client is a window to the server where all your email is kept

Yes you can if the email client lets you set the time to keep mail available on
the server,

>From memory if you go in to the account settings for the mail account
And you open the configuration settings for the account,
You should see other settings for the mail box account

In most cases your deleted items should stay again on the server but depending
on how old the messages are and what storage your account has,
May cause old mail to be deleted.
But as I said Imap is all kept on your mail server and the client is your
window to that mail box.

Pop is the client downloads your mail to your local machine via the client
obviously
But you are working from the client not from the server with imap.

Where on the iPhone, do you go to mark about length of time to keep messages; I
certainly would not want forever.

With iMap, I think the how long to keep the emails is their version of do you
want it left on the server.

iMap is always syncing the messages so any device looking at the messages will
have the latest.

So, if on your iOS device, you mark keep them forever, then that leaves them on
the server in the deleted folder until you empty the deleted folder.

At least, tha tis my theory based on no expert knowledge.

Hence, calling Apple to make sure.

Go into Settings, Mail, then Accounts. Double tap on the account you want to
change. Then go to Advanced. You’ll find the setting there.

I have one account on which I have messages deleted from the server, and one
that I have messages left on the server so I can access them from my laptop.

I am not sure it is on the iOS device for POP3 accounts, you set that on the
web side, like for Gmail.

I am not finding it for iMap on the iOS device either. Maybe I should do
research before replying?

But, all my accounts are set up as iMap, and I don’t permanently delete
messages until I’m on my computer out of habit from the old days.

This might be worth a call to Apple to double check the official word.

Possibly the issue youre having is due to the fact you have an iPhone 12s,

Thank you Daniel.
I’m not interested in beta testing, though I’d absolutely love it if apple
fixed whatever issue is causing the Iphone 12’s not to charge wirelessly and
also if they could make it so you could pick where you wanted voiceover to go
when using Bluetooth over the speaker or over the phone speaker.
I talked with apple accessibility on these issues today, they routed me to
Apple technical support who had never heard of voiceover nor did they
understand the charging issue, nor did they understand Bluetooth.
The guy even said to me “just plug it in” when I was trying to describe the
charging issue, if I wanted to do that and I liked that option I wouldn’t have
even brought it up.
Very frustrating to say the least especially as the charging issue wasn’t
disclosed when I bought my phone, it is apparently very common with Iphone 12’s
and I’m told to “just plug it in”.
Really?

Re: How Can I Turn Background App Refresh Back On?

2021-04-16 Thread Mike B
You need to select either Wifi or Wifi and Cellular.

Then select the Back button to go back a screen.

Now double tap either the Wifi or Wifi and Cellular, whichever one you
selected in the prior screen.

Now swipe through the apps and turn on what you want to refresh.

I may not have the steps exactly right, but it took me a little playing
around to figure it out, kinda sorta. It's a little different than most
other screens used to change settings.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Can a Shortcut Be Made to Open the Braille Setting?

2021-04-16 Thread dani pagador
Hi, Everyone.
Using IOS14.4 (I think that's the latest update.) and a BrailleEdge.
Is there a way to ceate a shortcut to the Braille setting? At this
point I have to jump through hoops to pair the Braille display. Not a
problem yet, but at some point there'll be a place when I need
immediate pairing and can't do the Settings ... Accessibility ...
VoiceOver ... Braille search to pair.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dani

Thanks for Any ideas.

RE: Focused inbox in outlook?

2021-04-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Outlook will split your in box into two views. One will be focus for the
messages it thinks are important to you and other for the rest of the messages.
You can let Outlook know which messages you want in which view. I have most
things go into focus, but I will send things like newsletters,
Facebook/LinkedIn updates and the like into other. You can turn this off
altogether in settings.

The line you’re seeing is your signature line. Double tap the entry field to
make sure your message is starting at the beginning of your entry field so that
line will be at the end. To change it or get rid of it altogether, you can do
that in settings.

Question about Overcast and a possible speaker

2021-04-16 Thread regina alvarado
Two questions. Thanks for answers in advance.

1. I have Overcast on my phone with many podcasts on it. I now have an iPad
Mini and have put Overcast on it. How do I sync my podcasts to my Mini? I
notice on investigation that I can put my email and a password, but I never did
this. Would that be a way of getting my iPad to put the podcasts on the Mini or
do I need to do all by hand on the Mini?

2. Completely different question. I would like to know if there are a set of
speakers that are not expensive that could bluetooth to both my Alexa and my TV
or even to my iPad with ease so I could use them easily with whatever device I
needed them for. Do not know what I should look for or even if such a thing
exists. Thanks again for any help with either question.

If you are getting it new from Apple, then powering it on and triple tapping
the home button should turn on VoiceOver.

During the setup you will have a chance to do the wireless transfer from your
other phone. It will pretty much walk you through it but Alan Lemly I think it
was posted a good step-by-step guide for doing the wireless transfer.

If I can find it I will pass it along unless he or someone else does first.

I will soon be upgrading to the S E 2020.

Does voiceover start just by tapping the home button three times?

Also, if it, and my current 10R phone are both unlocked, will I be prompted to
transfer my data to the new phone, or do I need to set anything on the 2020 for
it to start the transfer?

Also, will it transfer passwords, or will I have to enter them manually?

Really?

Once again, with iMap, after looking at the settings, that is not determined by
your phone.
You can limit the number of days to sync your messages, so it could only show
you the last 30 days, or forever, or one day, etc.
I think if you delete a message on an iMap account, it deletes it everywhere.

I do not have any pop accounts so will stay silent there and probably will stay
silent hence forth about the settings for keeping messages, etc.

I haven't set up a device from scratch for over a year, but after getting
VoiceOver on, the first screen may speak in a different language than what you
want, but if you double tap that button, it should orient to your default
regions language. From there, It is a matter of following the prompts.
You may want to call Apple Accessibility at the beginning stage and get them to
help you go through it if you get really stuck, 877-204-3930

If you are getting it new from Apple, then powering it on and triple tapping
the home button should turn on VoiceOver.
During the setup you will have a chance to do the wireless transfer from your
other phone. It will pretty much walk you through it but Alan Lemly I think it
was posted a good step-by-step guide for doing the wireless transfer.
If I can find it I will pass it along unless he or someone else does first.

Hello Listers,

I will soon be upgrading to the S E 2020.

Does voiceover start just by tapping the home button three times?

Also, if it, and my current 10R phone are both unlocked, will I be prompted to
transfer my data to the new phone, or do I need to set anything on the 2020 for
it to start the transfer?
Also, will it transfer passwords, or will I have to enter them manually?

Logitech K860 Full-Sized wireless keyboard for computers/smart phones

2021-04-16 Thread Richard Turner
Logitech K860 Wireless ergonomic keyboard for Windows/android or Mac/iOS

I needed a new keyboard as my 15-year-old USB keyboard was starting to have
problems with a few keys and my old hands are deciding that it is time to go
back to an ergonomic keyboard.
So, after doing some research, I settled on what is rated as one of the better
ergonomic keyboards.

I was not set on wireless, but that is the way the world is going and since I
like Logitech products in general, I went with this one.
Logitech K860 Split wireless Ergonomic keyboard. It is pricy at $130.
I'll start with the negatives.

Cons:
1. No applications key.
2. Only one Windows key on the left.
3. No accessible documentation. And no true documentation about the
hieroglyphic symbols used on some of the keys.
4. It is too easy to toggle to the media functions for the function keys.
5. It is pretty large. Left to right it is the same width as my standard
Wired USB keyboard. Front to back it is about 1.5 times as deep. And, of
course, much higher off the desk at the front edge due to the curve for the
ergonomics of the thing.
6. *Not really a con, just the nature of ergonomic keyboards, but the split is
between the 6 and 7, (and f6 and f7) keys, so for touch typists, the habit of
hitting the 6and F6 with your right index finger has to be retrained.

Pros:
1. It is probably the most comfortable keyboard I have ever typed on. The
wrist rest is quite comfortable, and for me, at the right height Plus, it has
feet under the front edge so you can raise it up to a more level arrangement
which fits me perfectly. It is already on a slight angle so no real need for
feet in the back.
2. Easy setup with or without the Logitech Options package. I plugged in the
USB receiver turned on the keyboard and Windows 10 had no trouble communicating
with it. There is a little key next to the f12 key that toggles you between
standard function keys and the media function keys. Easy to press accidentally.
3. It takes two triple A batteries, and they say that they will last 2 years.
I believe it based on my experience with the K480.
4. This is a full-sized keyboard with the number pad.
5. If I used the Windows Calculator more, this has a designated key above the
Num-lock key to launch the Windows Calculator.
6. It can connect to 3 devices. Either 3 Bluetooth devices or 1 USB and 2
Bluetooth, and/or possibly 2 USB devices and one Bluetooth, that isn't clear.
Connecting it to my iPhone was easy after I called their support line.
The three keys for switching between devices are right above the 6 pack, making
it a 9 pack.
It is tremendously easy to switch devices. I wanted to check a key function on
my iPhone while I was writing this, so I tapped the iPhone key, (for me device
3) did my checking, tapped the computer key, (device 1), and finished writing
this in Word on my computer.
7. It has a physical on/off switch located on the back edge and slightly under
it. If you feel where the split is between f6 and f7, and slide your finger
straight back, you are on it. Flipped to the right is on.
8. It is easy to toggle between the standard function keys and the media
function keys. I know, I listed this under the cons, but for some it would
also be a pro.

For anyone else who has, or ends up with this keyboard, here is the key layout
that involves the missing or extra keys.

ON the very top row, it is mostly standard, but here goes starting from the top
left key:
Escape
F1
f2
f3
f4
f5
f6
f7
f8
f9
f10
f11
f12
The Function Toggle
Print Screen, which is longer than the other keys.
Device 1
Device 2
Device 3
Calculator key
Battery indicator with one of the hieroglyphic symbols my wife couldn't
identify).
I am guessing that is for use with the Logitech Options software.
Scroll lock key, with another symbol but the letters SC on it.
Windows Lock key. This key allows you to lock your computer, so you need the
password to get back into it, also accomplished with WindowsKey+l.

* Note that the Function Toggle key is directly above the left edge of the
backspace key, and the print screen key is above the rest of the backspace key.

The first row where the space bar is located is laid out like this:
Control Key
Windows/Options Key
Alt/Command Key
Spacebar with the split in the middle
Alt/Command Key
Function key, which also seems to have the word Options, probably for Mac usage.
Control Key
Then your standard arrow keys followed by the standard numpad.

Later,

Thank you, but still doesn't work. I suspect it's because I'm using an older

Hi, Vicky,
#1. When Clubhouse is open, and you see the thing about Twitter, turn
screen recognition on.
#2. Next, swipe down to find the button after the part that asks you to
get the profile from Twitter.

You should be able to do it from there.

RE: beta testing

2021-04-16 Thread Star Gazer
Really?

Re: beta testing

2021-04-16 Thread Daniel MacDonald
IOS 15 is around the corner. I’ll start beta testing when the developer beta 1
is available. Not much is known about the OS, and developers and beta testers
alike sign a non-discloser agreement and since this list is not for betas, I
can’t say anything until iOS 15 is officially reliesed to the public. Their is
a beta list however, and if some join it, we’ll no everything. It is a
violation of the list guidelines to be subscribed if you’re not actively beta
testing.

Daniel

RE: keeping e-mail on my pc and looking at it on an I device

2021-04-16 Thread Richard Turner
Once again, with iMap, after looking at the settings, that is not determined by
your phone.
You can limit the number of days to sync your messages, so it could only show
you the last 30 days, or forever, or one day, etc.
I think if you delete a message on an iMap account, it deletes it everywhere.

I do not have any pop accounts so will stay silent there and probably will stay
silent hence forth about the settings for keeping messages, etc.

I have one account on which I have messages deleted from the server, and one

I am not sure it is on the iOS device for POP3 accounts, you set that on the

I am not finding it for iMap on the iOS device either. Maybe I should do
research before replying?

But, all my accounts are set up as iMap, and I don’t permanently delete

This might be worth a call to Apple to double check the official word.

If your email on the phone is set as iMap, it will not remove them from the
server unless you set it to remove from server when you delete it on your
phone.

Easy answer, do your deleting on the computer.

If your phone is set to use Pop3, you can go into the settings and tell it to
leave messages on the server.

If your email on the phone is set as iMap, it will not remove them from the
server unless you set it to remove from server when you delete it on your
phone.

Easy answer, do your deleting on the computer.

If your phone is set to use Pop3, you can go into the settings and tell it to
leave messages on the server.

Can confirm, I bought an Samsung phone, and am liking it so far. So, yeah,
if y'all don't like Apple, you truly do have options. Is TalkBack as good
as VoiceOver? I'd say it's about 60% of the way there. So you aren't locked
in, even when it comes to accessibility. And, Samsung phones have
fingerprint readers. :)

RE: Apple getting cheap

2021-04-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, it's kind of naive and short sighted to think that the pandemic and
pollution don't impact you including having to pay extra money and taxes.

I for one am glad Apple, Samsung and others are making this move. I don't
believe for a minute though that it isn't helping these companies financially,
and I'd like to see their savings passed on to the consumer, but I'm also
willing to pay a little bit extra if it means a better planet for me and my
children.

Hi Simon,

The things that you've mentioned are not things I think about, because for the
most part (pandemic, climate change, gun crime) I couldn't care less about
them. I care about things that'll affect me, and having to pay extra money is
one of those things.

Hi Simon,

The things that you've mentioned are not things I think about, because
for the most part (pandemic, climate change, gun crime) I couldn't
care less about them. I care about things that'll affect me, and
having to pay extra money is one of those things.

Either way though, it's not like not having the charger included is
going to be a make or break decision for anyone who was thinking of
buying an iPhone. Just more nickel and diming from Apple.

Good points, there,

Yeah if people are really unhappy about apple dropping the power brick,

Go buy a Samsung,

Oh that's right they 'are dropping the charging bricks form their phones also.

Again, I think folks are missing the point. No one's not going to not buy an
iPhone over a now no longer included wall charger.
It's that Apple's removed this accessory under the guise (and with likely
merit) of environmentalism when really, it's a way to cut down on cost from
manufacturing, sourcing materials to shipping (in those quantities, the
difference adds up quickly) and is still charging the same price. It's not like
they're getting out of the wall charger business. I mean, you can still buy one
from them. It's just another way for them to nibble around the edges, get some
good press and keep the same price. It comes off as chincy from a brand that
holds itself up as a luxury and consumer friendly company .
But no... people would rather carry on like a scold while again, missing the
actual point.
