RE: Amazon Alexa App Problem

2021-06-24 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

Count me as one of those that the app being discussed is routing Voiceover to
the ear speaker on my iPhone X. I really appreciate learning about this bug. I
would have thought my phone was broken. For me, activating the app switcher and
double tapping on the app gets things working as normal.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Hi.

The Amazon Music app switched Voiceover to the ear speaker on my iPhone. Made
it difficult to get going. As the message I'm replying to says, might be what's
going on.

Re: Routing Call to Bluetooth Speaker While in Progress?

2021-06-24 Thread dani pagador
Thanks for that reassurance. I've thought about switching back to a
flip phone because of the desire to hang up on scam calls and needing
to use VO to find the "end call" button, but being worried that the
person on the other end would hear VO and know then that I can't see.
Glad to know I can put that worry to rest. Haven't needed to hang up
on anyone, but am glad to know I can do it without giving anything
away about myself.

RE: mods stop this and migrate the group to groups.io

2021-06-24 Thread janet gross
Hi Mark and Malcolm,
Thank you Malcolm for what you said, as I feel exactly the same way. WE on
this list don't need a babysitter, nor do we need someone to hold our hands. I
think it is time we all give Mark and Cara credit for running this list as
pleasant and professional as they do! I don't think any of us can expect any
more from Mark or Cara! On many lists, when people post something I'm not
interested in, I simply delete the message, and move on to another message that
I might bee interested in.
Thank you so much Mark and Cara, you both are running a great list, and I
greatly appreciate it!

Yes some posts have been off topic over the years and to those who complain

Subject: issue with Dropbox

Hi,

This morning I was listening to something in my Dropbox folder on my mini IPad
5. This is normal for me and has always worked.

When I was finished with the file, I tried to delete it, the IPad moved
slightly and everything froze.

I can read the status line, clock, date, network, etc., but it's as though it's
stuck in that area. I can swipe up and down and get to notifications and the
control center, but then it goes right back to staying stuck.

I had my husband look at the screen and my entire Dropbox shows up as normal,
folders, files, exactly where it should be.

The volume is set at 60%, Voice over works fine on every other program, but
that screen is frozen.

I've tried unloading and reloading the program several times, turned my mini
ipad off and on several times, but nothing works.

I can use the rotor on that page and those settings are fine.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I checked for updates and there is one for Dropbox, but I wanted to see if
there is a fix for this before I did anything else.

Dropbox is working great on my computer and my phone.

Whatever happened, happened when I tried to delete the file and the mini IPad
moved at the same time.

Thanks.

Vicki

RE: Randomly moving settings

2021-06-24 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yes by default it's under mobile but if you've had it setup before and
migrated your settings from one device to the next
It comes back under settings,

I'm guessing however that if you set the phone up from scratch then it's again
hidden under mobile.

Of course once you've turned it on under mobile it should stay under settings.

So Today I opened settings in order to use personal hot spot with my laptop,

it was its own category in settings. It took me a couple of minutes to find it.
Then after I used it I opened settings just to check again and it had moved
back to its own separate setting category. Does anyone know what would cause
this to happen? I have an iphone 8 running ios 14.6.

iPhone 14 May Feature Under-Screen Touch
ID
Apple may include an under-screen version of Touch ID on some "iPhone 14"
models in
2022,
according to credible Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, providing users with an
alternative to Face ID.

In a wide-ranging research note this week, Kuo added that a new iPhone SE will
be released in the first half of 2022 with 5G support and other new
features,
while remaining a budget-friendly device. Kuo also expects a 48-megapixel
camera on some high-end iPhones next year.

As for this year, iPhone 13 dummy models surfaced this
week,
offering a closer look at rumored design changes.

I bought refurbished EarPods on eBay for $9. It sounds like the issue
you have with them is price. I was sent a broken EarPod once, and it
was replaced without hassle.

Greetings. After nearly 10 years, I'm losing my attraction to the wired Apple
earbuds. It seems like I've gone through several pairs over the last year or

I have to say that during the seven years or so I have been a member of this
group I have found it to be an extremely informative, friendly and valuable
resource.

Yes some posts have been off topic over the years and to those who complain
about the moderation of the group or your perceived lack of, have you tried
contacting Mark directly to voice your concerns? There are instructions on the
footer of messages advising this and contact details for moderator and group

Mark is in rather a no win situation! I have seen him attacked for being both

I have always found him to be a perfectly reasonable man and do remember he has

There are other groups on groups.io for such discussion. This group doesn't
need migrating. Also, Groups.io now charges for groups, and I can't recommend
them to any group that is not grandfathered in. Instead, I recommend either
freelists or GoogleGroups.

Yes, it is an easy thing to turn DND off this way, but then I don't see
the icon unless I make an effort to go into the control center.  It
doesn't happen often, but there are a few times when I forget Do Not
disturb has been turned on.

I don't keep it on the locked screen because it shows up as a
notification, and if I just want to press the side button to check the
time, that notification is read.

It must just be me missing this functionality.  LOL

You have the time, date and then a Do Not Disturb button which if you tap it
will allow you to turn it off right from the lock screen which is convenient.

I know the phones with no home buttons seem to have shrunk the area of the

This never made sense to me since there is more usable screen, but anyway, have
you tried double tapping on the cellular bars and then flicking right through

I don't have one of those phones now, but that is an educated guess.

Hi, all.

I've noticed that since upgrading to the iPhone 12 Pro that the Do Not Disturb
Icon and the Alarm Set icons no longer appear in the status bar when Do Not
Disturb is on or an alarm is set.  I realize that the Do Not Disturb
notification can be cleared from the locked screen, but I liked having it show
up in the status bar so I could remember to turn it off without scheduling
things in the phone. Same for the alarm status.

I'm using iOS 14.4 and an iPhone 12 Pro.  Would updating the iOS fix this
issue, or is there a setting I'm missing?

TIA for the help.

Hi all,

The first things I tried were shutting down and restarting my iPhone and
then I tried resetting the phone. None of this made a difference. Last
night, I spent a lot of time doing some research on the Internet and trying
a number of solutions that people suggested. I finally found a post that
recommended turning off and then turning on airplane mode. I didn't hold
out much hope for this solution but I was getting a bit desperate. I have
numerous Amazon devices around the house and I didn't want to lose all the
information about these devices stored in the Alexa app. Surprisingly,
turning off and then turning on airplane mode solved the problem. I don't
know what airplane mode has to do with the Alexa app but I'm glad to have
things working again. Thanks.

Take care,

I had the exact same thing happen to me on two of my phones yesterday after

and then installing the app again solved the problem. And yes, I did have to
sign back into the app as well as fix its notification settings.

Hi,

Hmm that is strange. Try reinstalling the app maybe? Remember that you
will have to have your Amazon sign-in info to get back in. You won't lose
any of your data on Alexa or anything if you do this. Also maybe even
before that, restart your phone? Is this the only App it is doing thi to?

"Hi,

Hmm that is strange. Try reinstalling the app maybe? Remember that you
will have to have your Amazon sign-in info to get back in. You won't lose
any of your data on Alexa or anything if you do this. Also maybe even
before that, restart your phone? Is this the only App it is doing thi to?

Re: problems adding events in calendar

2021-06-24 Thread Donna Casteen
Is she using the most recent IOS update? This problem was fixed a short while
ago. Have her to clear all apps from the app switcher, then completely power
off her phone & wait a couple minutes before powering the phone back on. If she
has the most recent IOS update, hopefully, powering off the phone will solve
the problem. I'm not having any problems with the calendar app.

RE: Amazon Alexa App Problem

2021-06-24 Thread Richard Turner
All that airplane mode does is turn off all external access like to the
cellular data and wi-fi.
So, possibly the app got stuck trying to access something and toggling Airplane
mode on then off got it unstuck.
Kind of like hitting the top of a TV when it wasn't looking right back in the
day of the old tube sets, grin.

The level of detail one used to be able to edit seems to be gone, or very, very

I use Siri now to get the initial appointment set and then edit what I can.

I might have to eat my words and go back to using Fantastical.

I have added events before in the calendar app that comes on the Iphones with
no problems at all. However, my wife started having trouble on her SE 2020 and
asked if I could try it. My wife is sighted so I was quite surprised.

When I opened the calendar and tried to ad an event it about drove me crazy.
When I would double click on the date I wanted it would open up and show me
that date. When I saved the event the date was not the date I selected. The
date had changed to a week earlier or maybe even a week later. She was having
the same issue and she can see. She could sit and watch it happening.

Has anyone else observed this and did you figure out what is going on?

thanks.

RE: Amazon Alexa App Problem

2021-06-24 Thread deidreandlouise
Edward, and others
You can turn on airplane mode through the device itself. Is that what
you did, or did you turn it off on your phone?
I'm having allkinds of problems with my Echo 10. It no longer calls my
phone when I ask it to call me. It says it will call the Alexa App instead
which I don't want because I never have it open unless I want to adjust
settings. For days it would not stop what was playing when I asked. I noticed
this was the case if an ad was playing, but then it started doing it when I was
playing podcasts. It seems to have gotten itself together since that interval
of days.
There is a place on the phone, and possibly on the device too, to
update the App, so that might be in order.
Never hesitate to call the number on Amazon's main page that is listed
towards the bottom of the page. It provides a link for customers with
disabilities. I haven't called it in awhile, but you will be put through to
technical support. I can't remember now if this was under a heading for the
Alexa App or not, but it is on the opening page when you go to the on-line
shopping site.
The customer service is excellent and fast. You will not be on hold for
long. They willalso send you follow-up information if you ask for it.

RE: Restoring missing icons to status bar

2021-06-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have to ask somebody if visually there is something in the status bar which
indicates if an alarm is set, but as for Do Not Disturb, that is on the lock
screen in iOS 14.
You have the time, date and then a Do Not Disturb button which if you tap it
will allow you to turn it off right from the lock screen which is convenient.

Hi, all.

I've noticed that since upgrading to the iPhone 12 Pro that the Do Not Disturb
Icon and the Alarm Set icons no longer appear in the status bar when Do Not
Disturb is on or an alarm is set.  I realize that the Do Not Disturb
notification can be cleared from the locked screen, but I liked having it show

things in the phone. Same for the alarm status.

I'm using iOS 14.4 and an iPhone 12 Pro.  Would updating the iOS fix this
issue, or is there a setting I'm missing?

TIA for the help.

So Today I opened settings in order to use personal hot spot with my laptop,
and it had randumly moved to inside the sellular settings section. Previously
it was its own category in settings. It took me a couple of minutes to find it.
Then after I used it I opened settings just to check again and it had moved
back to its own separate setting category. Does anyone know what would cause
this to happen? I have an iphone 8 running ios 14.6.

Re: Amazon Alexa App Problem

2021-06-24 Thread Vicky Collins
I had the exact same thing happen to me on two of my phones yesterday after
updating the Amazon Shopping app. Uninstalling the app, then doing a reboot,
and then installing the app again solved the problem. And yes, I did have to
sign back into the app as well as fix its notification settings.

Go into iCloud SEttings on your phone, and make sure Messages is turned on. On

Enable Messages in iCloud is checked. Then your messages will be synced.

Re: issue with Dropbox

2021-06-24 Thread Richard Turner
This is a random thought, but try clearing the RAM memmory by holding the power
button until you hear power off. Release the power button and hold the home
button down with a non-fingerprint finger; until the iPad comes back asking for
your passcode if you use one. Or just until it comes back on.
If that doesn't do it.
Then I'd call Apple Accessibility and see if they could do a screen share and
figure out what is going on.

The volume is set at 60%, Voice over works fine on every other program, but

I've tried unloading and reloading the program several times, turned my mini

I can use the rotor on that page and those settings are fine.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I checked for updates and there is one for Dropbox, but I wanted to see if
there is a fix for this before I did anything else.

Dropbox is working great on my computer and my phone.

Whatever happened, happened when I tried to delete the file and the mini IPad

Thanks.

Question about synchronization

2021-06-24 Thread Rena
Hello,

I have an iPhone SE and a mac book air. Both are updated to the latest
version.

I notice that my contacts are synced, so the same contacts are in my phone
and in the computer. However, the text messages are not. All the messages
are in the phone, but none of them is in the computer.

Is this an error, or the normal?

Is there anything I can do to have the same text messages in the computer?

Rena

Hello everyone,

Welcome to episode 88 of the Blind Tech Guys. We trust you will enjoy this

On this week's pod, we were live on ClubHouse with Taylor Arndt from Taylor's
Tech Talk discussing WordPress, from how to find an accessible theme, to what
plugins you should consider using, and how to go about making your website
visually appealing.

You can check this episode out by heading on over to the Blind Tech Guys,
where you can easily subscribe and listen to
each episode in your favourite podcast player, or you can simply ask your smart
speaker to "play the latest episode of the Blind Tech Guys podcast".

One more thing, back by popular demand, we have once again commenced putting
chapter markers in our episodes, which I know will make a lot of you very happy.

Warm regards,
