Re: what to choose

2022-03-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I heard today that when talking to someone at apple accessibility,
that the 13 pro iPhone goes up to one terabyte in size. The cost for
this phone is about $1500. Of course this price doesn't include apple
care, or any tax. Who knows, maybe this time next year, there might
even be a phone with 2 terabytes of storage. When it comes to good
sounding bluetooth speakers, I like my fourth generation echo, and my
bose speaker. I've also got an anker motion+ that has very good sound
especially with the bass boost button. Tribit also makes some very
nice speakers as well. I've got a 30 watt speaker from zoetree that
sounds quite nice as well. There's a w-king 80 watt speaker I'd love
to try out as well.

You have to set it up in the Health app and you either require a printed
version of your vaccine passport or have the file on a different device since
you have to scan the QR code, it will then ask you if you want to add it to
Wallet.

There is also one other thing to remember and that is whether the format of the
vaccine passport meets the requirement for having it on your phone, can’t quite
remember what this is called, but you can of course try it since I assume most
countries now will issues vaccine passports which meet this format/requirement.

Thanks much, Sieghard.

The problem is that when I try to put the federal in, voiceover says you have
already scanned this in wallet. Secondly, the version of federal I have in
wallet, does not show booster.

Is it ok to keep federal in file and print it from there?

Thanks!

Hi Fazil,

As far as I know you can’t print from the Wallet, but since you must also have
your vaccine proof saved as JPG and/or PDF for the Federal version which you
would have needed in order to scan it and get it into Wallet in the first place
you can simply open that and print it.

Fazil, I happened to see this as I am currently at a dive resort with decent
Wi-Fi, but just so you know, tomorrow we are travelling back to my wife’s
family’s place and once I’m there my internet connection is not great. And for
those who wonder what this is all about, Fazil knows what I am talking about.

Apparently, The app store is having difficulty.
I could update some apps, but not get new ones, like the Repeater book.
Wait a while and try again.
Or call Apple to report the issue.

Re: what to choose

2022-03-22 Thread Kelly Pierce
Half of the usefulness of iPhones is iOS. To get the biggest bang for
your money, go with the most recent processor. These phones would be
from the 13 series and the SE 2022. The original SE was introduced in
2016 and is still receiving updates six years later. I have the
iPhone Mini and love the small size and the 512 GB of storage. I plan
on transferring most of my music to this phone and buying a great
sounding Marshall Bluetooth speaker to play it on. The highest storage
level for the SE 2022 is 256 GB.

RE: Troubles with my iPhone 11 Pro

2022-03-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Here are the 3 things to try before going any further:

1. Reboot the phone, i.e. close all apps in the app switcher, turn it off, wait
30 seconds or so and turn it back on. If that doesn't help try the next.
2. Turn the phone off, pop out the SIM tray and reinsert it, then turn the
phone back on. If that also doesn't help, try this:
3. Go to Settings > General >Reset and Reset the Network Settings. Note you
will need your Wi-Fi password and reconnect to your Wi-Fi after the phone
reboots.

Of course I would also check the signal strength in the status bar at the top
if you are in a situation when a call drops to see if the signal is good.

If none of the above helps I would call my carrier, tell them that you have a
lot of dropped calls and could they please send you a new SIM to see if that
will help.

Take care,
Sieghard

RE: How to Increase Volume of Text Notification Sound

2022-03-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Sherry,

You might check Settings, Sounds and haptics, Sound volume and make sure it is
set to 100 percent. This setting is just below the Ringer and alerts heading so
relates to them. Next, swipe right once past the sound volume to Change with
buttons and make sure this is turned off. With this turned off, the volume for
your ringer and alerts will always be at 100 percent regardless of whether you
use your volume buttons to change Voiceover volume.

Subject: How to Increase Volume of Text Notification Sound

Hello,

I have an IPhone 8 & am current on IOS. My volume is fine & easily adjusted
except for the text notification sound. At times it will be fine then it will
suddenly be quite soft such that I don’t notice when I get a text. Everything
else has the volume I want. I even turned the volume up louder than I want
thinking it would fix the text notification sound but no luck. I have looked
through settings & found no way to just adjust the text notification sound. I
looked at choosing some different sounds for this notification but none of them
are as loud as I’d like. I have not found a pattern in what seems to cause the
notification sound to go down in volume as much of the time it is fine.

Any ideas on how I can increase the text notification sound?

Thanks,

Sherry Wells

RE: Printing Vaccine Passport from Wallet?

2022-03-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You have to set it up in the Health app and you either require a printed
version of your vaccine passport or have the file on a different device since
you have to scan the QR code, it will then ask you if you want to add it to
Wallet.
There is also one other thing to remember and that is whether the format of the
vaccine passport meets the requirement for having it on your phone, can’t quite
remember what this is called, but you can of course try it since I assume most
countries now will issues vaccine passports which meet this format/requirement.

There is absolutely no need at all to set up Face Id in sunshine or even
outside. It seems to be better to not do it in complete darkness, but just in a
room with normal light from a window or artificial light is just fine.

Karen, I got out in afternoon sunshine, did not have a bit of trouble. The
phone will give instructions, move head this way and that way, kind of like,
when entering a fingerprint one, how it had you keep entering a finger print
again and again.

They say you don't have to be in bright sun, but I can tell you that, for me,
it worked, so that is what I would do again with a new phone.

Also, in settings, there is a setting inside Accessibility or somewhere, where
you turn off Full Attention, although it should be off with Voiceover on. I
can't remember exactly about that, but someone else will know exactly what I am
talking about.

RE: recommendations for accessible kitchen scales and cooking thermometers

2022-03-22 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I've been using the drop scale
https://www.amazon.com/Drop-Scale-Connected-Step-Step/dp/B00TTY34KG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=18IP048LO8JAV=drop+scale=1648004603=dropscale%2Caps%2C173=8-1
for the past four years. It measures to the gram. It's completely accessible
or at least for what I use it for. I don't really use it for the recipe aspect.
Just the scale part. I roast my own coffee beans and make my own coffee. So
weighing out the beans for grinding and water for brewing for Pour-over,
Aeropress, iced coffee Frenchpress, accuracy to the gram is necessary to be
able to replicate a good brew. I mean, I use it for other stuff in the kitchen,
but I'm the coffee guy in the house. My wife will go on a rampage if she
doesn't have her daily coffee.
The company still puts out regular app updates and they've even reached out to
me in the past when I've written them about an accessibility hiccup here or
there with an update. The other day, I was wiping down the counter and knocked
it on the floor and it's still working. Connectivity is pretty quick and
VoiceOver reads out the weight in realtime as it fluctuates when you're adding
or subtracting whatever it is you're weighing when it's focused on that field.
All in all, a very good product. When I bought it, it was closer to $60, but
looks like it's $30 now. An even better deal.
I do have a talking thermometer that can measure up to 500º Fahrenheit but
can't remember the name of the company right now. That one is a straight up
talking device. No iOS app or anything. It looks like there are a few options
to choose from on Amazon though.

Re: Charging My New iPhone 13 Pro Max

2022-03-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Esther. I don't know why you would think it would be a bad idea to
charge a brand new iPhone to 100%. I do it all the time with my
iPhone 8, and my battery lasted me for over 2 years before needing to
be replaced. I hope you have apple care for your new iPhone. I
didn't have to pay a thing for my new battery. I found out that the
13 pro with a one terabyte storage will cost $1500 not including tax
or an additional $200 for apple care. I'm probably looking at around
$2000 or so for my next iPhone. Especially since there might be
higher capacity phones then one terabyte models in the future. I'd
say my iPhone 8 is good for a couple more years. I can pay $10 per
month for apple care, a real bargain in my opinion.

Re: Opening the Alexa app on my iPhone results in a loss of speaker volume.

2022-03-22 Thread Mike B
Here's the other fix, turning on Hands Free, steps.

1. Once you have the apps voice coming through the speakers again, Go down
to the bottom right corner of the screen, and do a single finger double tap
on the More tab. It's tab 5 of 5 on the bottomline tool bar.

 2. Go to the top left corner below the status bar and swipe to, Settings,
and do a single finger double tap to open.

3. Swipe right on the screen that opens to, Alexa App Settings, and single
finger double tap to open.

4. Swipe to, Enable Alexa hands free, and make sure it is turned on.

After turning on Alexa hands free the next time you open the Alexa app,
Voiceover should again be working at the correct volume level. and coming
through the speakers.

Stay safe and take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

I’m pretty sure this came up a while ago, and I really didn’t pay that much
attention. I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for the problem which
occurs when you open the Alexa app. All of a sudden, the volume only goes
through the earpiece which is very quiet.

Re: Opening the Alexa app on my iPhone results in a loss of speaker volume.

2022-03-22 Thread Mike B
Hi Mary,

One way to get around this is to, after you open the Alexa app go to the app
switcher and single finger double tap the Alexa app again. Now the sound
will come through your speakers. This has to be done every time you use the
Alexa app like this.

There's another work around and I'll post the steps as soon as I can find
them.

Interesting, I have never seen the xx more control in that app. I typically
have trouble accessing my cart. So, I look over the choices then call doordash
accessability number and place the order by phone.

HI Pam,

This app has had its accessibility problems for a long time.

I also have an iPhone 8 and I can reorder items but I can’t buy anything new.
I’ve had the same experience just last night; tried to add 2 cookies to my cart
from McDonalds and when I double tap on the item it doesn’t go anywhere.

When I went into my cart they asked if I wanted to add anything and 2 cookies
just happened to be on the list of things you could add and this time it worked.

Has anyone had success ordering from DoorDash recently? It seems this app is
very hit or miss as far as accessibility.

When trying to flick through the available items, focus jumps to other places
on the list. Also, if I do land on an item I want, double tapping it to choose
it seems to do nothing.

I have an iPhone 8, so this is not the issue with the screen describe feature
(if that is the correct name).

Any tips would be helpful.

Hi Marty. I'm not sure why your voice mails aren't playing through

That app makes listening to and checking voice mails extremely easy.
Good luck.

Thanks, Debbie. I was afraid of that. I thought I had it working when

RE: Difficulty Ordering with Doordash App

2022-03-22 Thread Debbie Downey

I’m pretty sure this came up a while ago, and I really didn’t pay that much
attention. I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for the problem which
occurs when you open the Alexa app. All of a sudden, the volume only goes
through the earpiece which is very quiet.

Thanks,

Re: Orbit Writer

2022-03-22 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Brandon,

What I was trying to say is that I recommend typing with uncontracted Braille.
I also changed my typing feedback to characters under hardware keyboards and
then it would tell me what I was backspacing. I hope this helps a little bit. I
gave up and went back to my trusty Bluetooth keyboard. Lol.

Re: Orbit Writer

2022-03-22 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
So what do you recommend then? I just got my wife an orbit writer and I'm a bit
nervous about this if backspacing is buggy.

I too love my Orbit Writer. I like the fact that I can pair it to multiple

challenge, and this isn't the fault of the device itself, is all of the
keyboard commands I tried to learn to replace any on screen gesture I

I'm not quite following your message, but like I said, if you're using

2022-03-22 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hey, Carolyn!

Way to go! In other words--you go, girl! Good for you. I'll never forget the
words my Dad instilled into me. He said, and I quote: "Never stop learning."
He said these words to me when I graduated college way back in 1965. My iPhone
13 Pro Max is a gem and it didn't take me long to learn the gestures. I do
have to get a better handle on Face ID, but I'm, going to try some new tricks.

Again, kudos to you!

Esther

Re: Uber airport run

2022-03-22 Thread caspicer3
Hello I just looked into the same type of ride. Once you choose your
destination in the Uber app it will show you an opportunity to book in advance
for the airport. I would allow at least two hours due to traffic in and around
Orlando. You should be able to schedule this week for next week and you will
not be charged until you actually take the trip.
Hope this helps you.

Regards,
Charles

Uber airport run

2022-03-22 Thread William Outman
Hi,list.
I thought I would ask a few things about scheduling a ride through Uber. Next
week I need to catch a flight just after 5 am, and Siri tells me the trip is a
little over an hour in light traffic at that hour. So first I need to know
about how far ahead to schedule pick up at my place to account for travel time
and check in as well as navigation at the airport. As it may be at an odd hour,
I have been advised to schedule in advance to be sure I can get a driver. How
far ahead should I reserve and how do I do this? Will I be billed when I
schedule or when the trip occurs? If this matters, I’m going to Orlando
International from Daytona Beach.

you turn off Full Attention, although it should be off with Voiceover on. I
can't remember exactly about that, but someone else will know exactly what I am
talking about.

Wow! I'm still having trouble and my daughter-in-law and her sister both tried
to help. Gotta do it soon, though. Tired of punching in all those numbers. 

Thanks, Josh. As good as you are with the Victor Stream, even though it has
buttons, I was sure you'd be a whizz with your phone.

I'm soon to be 85, but my Dad stayed pretty up to date with electronics right
up to the end, so I hope I can do OK with them.

Carolyn. I'm glad you got your face ID to work. I had no idea you are over
82. You seem as if you use the iPhone pretty well. Congrads to you. I hear
from some older people on different lists how they couldn't learn to use an
iPhone or that it is to hard. The iPhone is awesome and I really enjoy using
mine.
