after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you should find
it in the quick settings if you left it turned on in VoiceOver Recognition.
Then it might show up in the settings ... this is not one of Apple's better
attempts at a feature.

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was seldom talked
about until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn it on under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.

If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition and sure
enough, it disappeared from Quick Settings.

When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to reboot the
phone before it showed up again in quick Settings. Not sure why, but that
is what I did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in quick
settings. There are other settings you may find it better to have in Quick
Settings instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2 finger quadruple
tap. It functions like the rotor, but since you have to be more intentional
about bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate
when you wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure
out it helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen
Recognition and double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you
want it to default to on.

Hi James,

Yes but you do it in Accessibility / Voiceover / Quick Settings, and not where
the quick settings are opened accessed using the 2 finger quadruple tap.

So, open the quick settings as described above and while in quick settings
swipe to the feature you want to move. Let's use, Activities, as an example.

Swipe to Activities, and you'll hear selected Activities, now swipe one more
time to, reorder Activities. Here do a single finger swipe up to either move
up or move down, and do asingle finger double tap.

It'll move in the direction you selected and you'll receive confirmation from
Voiceover of it's action. Any of these items can be moved in the same way from
it's reorder... option. Now close out and using the 2 finger quadruple tap
gesture you can open the quick settings to see if the features are arranged the
way you want them.

You can also do the double tap and hold on the move X app and slide down or
up and if you go slowly, it will tell you which app you have moved it above
or below.

You only have the height of the screen to move with good info, but you can
end up moving it all the way to the top or bottom pretty easily.

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was
seldom talked about until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn
it on under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver
Recognition.
If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick
Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition
and sure enough, it disappeared from Quick Settings.
When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to
reboot the phone before it showed up again in quick Settings.  Not sure
why, but that is what I did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in
quick settings.  There are other settings you may find it better to have in
Quick Settings instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2
finger quadruple tap.  It functions like the rotor, but since you have to
be more intentional about bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice
speaking rate when you wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once
you figure out it helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen
Recognition and double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you
want it to default to on.

But the Mag Safe is tied to a wall outlet. If you are looking for
convenience, I have a dedicated wall charging block with a 10 foot USB
to lightning cable attached to it. It is always connected to the wall.
Plugging in the iPhone is effortless. This is a lot less inexpensive
than the Mag Safe business.

 Hi folks,
I went ahead and ordered iPhone 14 Pro, which I expect to get in 3
 weeks.
Now I am thinking of buying two accessories for it. Here where I need
 your
recommendations based on first hand experience.
First, I need advice on getting asolid and powerful fast magsafe
 wireless
 charger.
Second, i need advice on getting a good magsafe compatible protective
case. I do not like the bulky type and I prefer the transparent ones.
 Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I turned it on in Voice Recognition and then assigned / turned on a couple

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was seldom talked
about until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn it on under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.

If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition and sure enough,
it disappeared from Quick Settings.

When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to reboot the phone
before it showed up again in quick Settings. Not sure why, but that is what
I did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in quick settings.
There are other settings you may find it better to have in Quick Settings
instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2 finger quadruple
tap. It functions like the rotor, but since you have to be more intentional
about bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate

If you swipe one more time to the right of Quick Settings in the VO settings,
it will tell you. I’ll tell you though.

You activate Quick Settings by tapping four times with two fingers. A double
magic tap., so to speak.

Re: Recommendation: put Screen Recognition in VO Quick Settings, not the Rotor

2022-10-04 Thread Chris Chaffin
Mike,

I can definitely say that Apple Accessibility was not correct. I am running
ios 15, and after turning on screen recognition and then going to quick
settings found in Voiceover settings, screen recognition is a choice that you
can have in your quick settings list.
Now, as you mentioned, I do not know if having an iPhone SE makes a difference
or not.

Re: Any recommendations?

2022-10-04 Thread Kelly Pierce
I was unimpressed with the mag safe technology. The charging pad still
needs to be plugged in so I can just plug in my iPhone once a day.
Also, I wanted a leather case and mag safe chargers make noticeable
marks in the leather case, destroying its elegance.

Screen Recognition and Quick Settings, mystery sort of cleared up

2022-10-04 Thread Richard Turner
First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was seldom talked about
until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn it on under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.

If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition and sure enough, it
disappeared from Quick Settings.

When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to reboot the phone
before it showed up again in quick Settings. Not sure why, but that is what I
did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in quick settings.
There are other settings you may find it better to have in Quick Settings
instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2 finger quadruple tap.
It functions like the rotor, but since you have to be more intentional about
bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate when you
wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure out it
helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen Recognition and
double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you want it to default
to on.

HTH,

Richard, USA.

A 2 finger quadruple tap brings it up so you can adjust whatever settings you
have in there.

If you go to settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > and go all the way down to
the end, you will see quick settings. You will find Screen Recognition in
there. Only a few things are selected at the outset. Think of this as the
rotor, but you are adding choices to Quick Settings instead.

If you swipe one more time to the right of Quick Settings in the VO settings,
it will tell you. I’ll tell you though.

You activate Quick Settings by tapping four times with two fingers. A double
magic tap., so to speak.

I solved the problem. I remembered that I had screen recognition turned off in

2022-10-04 Thread Mike B.
Hi Holly,

According to Apple Accessibility or, at least the person I talked to, if I
were to update to iOS16 that would solve the problem but, apparently not.
Maybe this only happens with certain model phones? I would be curious to
find out what they would say to someone running iOS16 on an SE2020 phone.

If you go to settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > and go all the way down to the end, you will see quick settings.  You will find Screen Recognition in there.  Only a few things are selected at the outset.  Think of this as the rotor, but you are adding choices to Quick Settings instead.Sent from my iPhone Pro MaxOn Oct 4, 2022, at 6:04 PM, Holly wrote:

RE: Recommendation: put Screen Recognition in VO Quick Settings, not the Rotor

2022-10-04 Thread chrisjudge1967
Hi. Go to settings, accessibility, voice over. Near the bottom is an option for
quick settings. You have to go in there and select the things you wish to
appear in voice over quick settings. The process is similar to adding and
removing things from the router, you can select, deselect and reorder things.

After my experience with the BARDMobile app and screen recognition
accidentally getting turned on, I have taken it out of the rotor and put it
in Quick Settings.

The advantage is that it cannot be accidentally turned on.

Until Apple fixes the Rotor so it doesn’t randomly change what is focused,
accidentally turning on various settings will happen.

This one can reak havvoc, so moving it to Quick Settings will lessen the
problems it can cause while leaving it available for those places where it
may be useful.

To open Quick Settings, do a two finger quadruple tap. Find the setting
you want to enable and do a one finger double tap.

2022-10-04 Thread Richard Turner
Mike, I went ahead and double checked Thomas Donnville's podcast. It was done on September 16, 2021.So unless he had a time machine, he was using iOS 15 and Screen Recognition was in his Quick settings choices. He did not say anything about adding things to the quick settings, at least not in the first 4 minutes or so. the whole thing is about 10 minutes long; so you may want to give it a listen. That or try Apple again and see if you get someone who actually knows what the hell they are talking about.Richard, USA.“What we think or what we know or what we believe is in the end of little consequence. 2022-10-04 Thread Mike B.
Okay, I called Apple accessibility and they said that the Screen Recognition
feature isn't showing in Voiceover / Quick Settings because I'm not running
iOS16...

They didn't explain why or why not but, all they said was that it wouldn't
as well as other features like Screen Recognition won't show in Voiceover /
Quick Settings to ve selected or unselected until an individual has updated
to iOS16..., it was an update feature that came along with iOS16.

Hi Richard,

I took Screen Recognition off the rotor but, how do I add it to Quick
Settings? It's not in Quick Settings to turn on.

Subject: Recommendation: put Screen Recognition in VO Quick Settings, not
the Rotor

After my experience with the BARDMobile app and screen recognition
accidentally getting turned on, I have taken it out of the rotor and put it
in Quick Settings.

The advantage is that it cannot be accidentally turned on.

Until Apple fixes the Rotor so it doesn’t randomly change what is focused,
accidentally turning on various settings will happen.

This one can reak havvoc, so moving it to Quick Settings will lessen the
problems it can cause while leaving it available for those places where it
may be useful.

To open Quick Settings, do a two finger quadruple tap. Find the setting you
want to enable and do a one finger double tap.

Richard, USA.

RE: Any recommendations?

2022-10-04 Thread Richard Turner
You know, I bought it last fall when I got my 13 pro; and I was at the Verizon
store helping a friend sort out what she was going to upgrade to and they had
them on sale ... I think it came with the charger, but I cannot swear to that
as my friend bought it for me as a thank you for my help. She ended up getting
a 12 pro and the same charger plus Airpods and the whole 9 yards.
I am pretty sure the price included the charger.
In any case, always ask before buying.

Any recommendations?

2022-10-04 Thread Cris Ali
Hi folks,
I went ahead and ordered iPhone 14 Pro, which I expect to get in 3 weeks. Now I
am thinking of buying two accessories for it. Here where I need your
recommendations based on first hand experience.
First, I need advice on getting asolid and powerful fast magsafe wireless
charger.
Second, i need advice on getting a good magsafe compatible protective case. I
do not like the bulky type and I prefer the transparent ones.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Regards

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Ah, yes, I did mean LCD. Sorry about that. You're right, brightness will impact
battery life when using an LCD display. I should have said that a dark screen
or VoiceOver's screen curtain wouldn't impact battery life on an older iPhone,
but brightness would.

Hi Christopher,

You probably meant to say "with LCD displays" since as far as I know iPhones
went from LCD to OLED, I am not aware there was ever an iPhone with a regular
LED display.
Also, it apparently does make a difference with LCD screen iPhones how bright
your screen is because as you say the brightness of an LCD screen is determined
by the amount of backlighting and if you were to set it manually to be 100%
then I do believe you may in fact notice a difference as opposed to having it
set to 0%.

With LED displays, setting the screen to dark or changing it's brightness won't
impact the battery since they're backlit. With OLED displays it should take
less energy to power a dark display, but I haven't looked for any benchmarks on
this.

Am I remembering someone on here says that it Hass to be set to dark so the
battery doesn't drain as fast and I do have it set to 0% for some reason it was
on light so I had to switch it back over again too dark. And I also the phone
set to lock after 30 seconds.
Thanks for reading regarding this matter.

Open a Mail message. Set your rotor to read by word, or character, or line, it
doesn’t really matter. Flick down to read a couple of words or whatever. Then
flick once to the right. The next time you flick down, your rotor will have
changed and you will be sent to the bottom where you have your choice to trash
the message or whatever. In my case, every time it says trash. So the rotor is
switching just because I make a flick to the right without changing anything.
I’m sure there are others, but this one is easy to duplicate.

The advantage is that it cannot be accidentally turned on.

Until Apple fixes the Rotor so it doesn’t randomly change what is focused,
accidentally turning on various settings will happen.

This one can reak havvoc, so moving it to Quick Settings will lessen the
problems it can cause while leaving it available for those places where it may

To open Quick Settings, do a two finger quadruple tap. Find the setting you

Re: Recommendation: put Screen Recognition in VO Quick Settings, not the Rotor

2022-10-04 Thread Mary Otten
I am not richard, but here is an example of what he is talking about I believe.

SE 2020

2022-10-04 Thread deidreandlouise
Hello all

There is another thing happening on my SE 2020 since the first 16 update. I
did write up a list and send it on to Apple Assessibility and just got
disconnected while waiting on hold to talk to them about what I will
describe below.

Siri is not responding to my normal tone of voice. I have to
literally yell at the phone (and my echo device) to get her to acknowledge I
have spoken. I know to wait to hear the bonk sound, for lack of a better
term, and either way I wind up having to repeat my request twice, and you
all know how much I like doing that!

Is there some setting to mark the sensitivity of the
recognition? I don't mean speech recognition, just regular dictated speech,
once again most of the problems are when I try to use Siri from the home
screen, and I am not within an app. I guess if this persists I will simply
get trained to always do dictation within an edit field in a specific App.

   Another broken thing:

If I say go to mail settings or settings for mail, I will
never be taken to those specific settings. This was not the case with
previous IOS versions.

And, why is "mentions" in my roter? I did not put it there
and see nothing about it in the roter settings.

btw, what bugs did 16.2 fix?

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Actually I have Bluetooth on all the time because I have an Apple Watch and
also because I find it inconvenient to turn it on each time I want to use a
Bluetooth headset or speaker or maybe my keyboard. It may depend a bit on what
type of Bluetooth device you have connected, but for the most part Bluetooth
being on should only use up a very small amount of extra power.
By now my iPhone 11 which I have had for 2 years is down to 85% battery
capacity, but if my phone is fully charged in the morning I still easily get
through the day and I use my phone quite a bit. Maybe if I had to use a GPS app
for a couple of hours each day I would have problems getting all the way to 9
or 10 PM, but I honestly couldn't care less if my battery in the evening is
still at 40% or at 20% or 15% because I have a smart phone because I want its
convenience features and this includes having Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, it means
having location services turned on for most apps and also to use background app
refresh at least for some of the apps I use a lot. It also means that I set my
two email accounts to Push which definitely takes up more battery than if I
checked them only once an hour or manually, in fact it probably uses up more
power than having Bluetooth on does.

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

I think your statement that battery life goes down "much faster" without screen
curtain is relative. I highly doubt you could show that say in a two hour time
period it would go down by 6% without screen curtain and only by 4% with screen
curtain. You also would have to replicate exactly the same conditions, say you
turn on airplane mode so nothing else may use more power during one test as
opposed to the other test, then maybe play a downloaded movie of about a 2 hour
length on your iPhone, first with screen curtain turned off and then with
screen curtain on. I would also make sure the phone is fully charged to 100%
before you start and then see what your percentage is after the 2-hour movie
for both scenarios.

Well, my experience is that if I set my phone to use auto brightness under
settings, accessibility, display and text size; and use the screen curtain, the
brightness is always at zero unless I turn off the screen curtain.
I seem to get better battery life than many, and I notice the battery life
going down when my screen curtain is off for an extended time. Often because
my wife wanted to see something on my phone and I forgot to turn the screen
curtain back on.
During those times, the battery drain is much faster than when I have the
screen curtain on and using the phone the same way.

Can I prove it? no. Can anyone convince me it doesn’t make a difference having
the screen brightness at zero when using the screen curtain? No.

With LED displays, setting the screen to dark or changing it’s brightness won’t
impact the battery since they’re backlit. With OLED displays it should take
less energy to power a dark display, but I haven’t looked for any benchmarks on
this.

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Christopher,

You probably meant to say "with LCD displays" since as far as I know iPhones
went from LCD to OLED, I am not aware there was ever an iPhone with a regular
LED display.
Also, it apparently does make a difference with LCD screen iPhones how bright
your screen is because as you say the brightness of an LCD screen is determined
by the amount of backlighting and if you were to set it manually to be 100%
then I do believe you may in fact notice a difference as opposed to having it
set to 0%.

With LED displays, setting the screen to dark or changing it’s brightness won’t
impact the battery since they’re backlit. With OLED displays it should take
less energy to power a dark display, but I haven’t looked for any benchmarks on
this.

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think you will notice a huge difference whether you have it set to dark
mode or light mode. If you have a phone with OLED screen there might be a very
small difference since apparently dark pixels use up less power, but it would
be quite minimal. Of course you may as well set it to dark mode.

As for screen brightness I would recommend you set it to auto and then if you
want to make the most of it you can turn on screen curtain by tapping 3 times
with 3 fingers.
As soon as iOS detects that screen curtain is on brightness will be
automatically set to 0%, but if you ever need help with the phone then as soon
as you turn off screen curtain with a 3-finger triple tap the screen brightness
will be at a level which should make it easy for a sighted person to see it.
You can of course also turn off Voiceover which will then automatically remove
the screen curtain since that is a Voiceover feature so if Voiceover is not
running screen curtain is also not there to black out the screen.

RE: Screen brightness.

2022-10-04 Thread Richard Turner

No.

After my experience with the BARDMobile app and screen recognition accidentally
getting turned on, I have taken it out of the rotor and put it in Quick
Settings.

The advantage is that it cannot be accidentally turned on.

Until Apple fixes the Rotor so it doesn’t randomly change what is focused,
accidentally turning on various settings will happen.

This one can reak havvoc, so moving it to Quick Settings will lessen the
problems it can cause while leaving it available for those places where it may
be useful.

To open Quick Settings, do a two finger quadruple tap. Find the setting you
want to enable and do a one finger double tap.
