RE: A Question for Star Trek, Picard Fans

2022-10-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Well, a list member who is also a Star Trek fan, just purchased Picard, Season
1, from the iTunes store. He plans to buy season 2, also, from iTunes.

He informed me that the audio track is not included in the purchase.

Wow!

I am so surprised given that the audio track is included on Amazon Prime Video.

Given that the show was produced at the Amazon Studios, I guess I should not be
too surprised, at that.

Like all of my other television series purchases from iTunes, I probably
wouldn't let the lack of an audio track stop me from purchasing the show but if
I can get the same episodes, at the same price, with audio description from
Amazon Prime Video, then so be it.

Well, off to the Amazon Prime Video Store, I go.

I have not purchased that series. I did listen to season one from
audiovault.net which of course is just the audio file, no Pictures.
I have a few movies from iTunes that have audio description.
Perhaps this is one where you need to ask Apple directly.

My question: Has anyone purchased a season of Star Trek, Picard from the

Why am I asking when I can simply buy a season and discover the answer for

Since I plan on buying Star Trek, Picard, normally, I would simply buy the
first season and hope for the best. However, in this instance, the series
is also being sold in the Amazon Prime Video store. And, unlike the product
description in iTunes, Amazon Prime Video clearly labels the series as
having an audio track included with purchase.

While I have purchased several items from the Amazon Prime Video Store,

if possible.

So, in short, I was just curious if anyone had purchased the show from
iTunes and if the audio description track had been included with the
purchase.

All replies appreciated,

2022-10-18 Thread CHELA Robles
I have not purchased any video Contant with audio description from Apple
iTunes, and you did mention Paramount plus subscribers getting access to the
audio description. Well I tried to get that audio description for a show which
normally does have audio description, but couldn’t get it to go on because in
the app, there’s no way for me to tell. if I’m actually in the player or if I’m
in the settings because I don’t know what they did in the update, but I cannot
find audio language, subtitles, etc. this is on an iPhone 8 plus running
16.0.3. I have the latest software update for Paramount+ app as well. Anybody
having issues getting the audio description to work on that app any workarounds
would be great. Sorry that this doesn’t actually answer your question but trial
and error seems to be the best bet I could try to buy season one and let you
know if it works but you would think under the description that it would say
that audio description is available. I know it does for a star is born 2018.

Subject: And So It Begins: Does Anyone Know How to Buy iPhone 14Pro Max with a
Physical SIM Tray from within the United States?

Hello Everyone,

And so it begins.

I was in one of my local Apple stores, yesterday taking a look at iPhone 14 Pro
Max.

It is my hope to purchase an iPhone 14 model with a physical SIM tray.

While discussing this with a store manager, I was somewhat surprised to learn
that, according to him, the store has been inundated by customers who only
want to buy iPhone 14 with a physical SIM tray. He told me that they are
working on crafting an in-store response to the enquiries designed to
discouraged customers from seeking a physical SIM tray. He followed that up by
saying, "I know you, Mark, and no response is going to keep you from getting
that SIM tray model, if that is what you want." (smile) He is a very smart
man (smile).

So, the search begins.

Does anyone know away to purchase an iPhone 14 Pro Max with a physical SIM
tray, from within the United States?

Some people are saying that if you buy a model from the Apple online store,
without designating a wireless provider, that Apple will ship you a model with
a physical SIM tray. However, I cannot locate anyone to confirm this.

Make no mistake, I'm not above taking a short trek up to Canada to pick up a
model but if I can avoid it, I would prefer to do so.

I have a friend who is heading to Japan in a couple of weeks and, of course, I
could have the friend pick up a model, in Japan, but that makes me somewhat
uncomfortable; I don't know why. I think I'd rather go to Canada, in person,
to grab a model.

All replies greatly appreciated.

2022-10-18 Thread CHELA Robles
To my knowledge, I don’t think there’s a way to get a physical Sim because if I
remember correctly, they stated that it was gonna be electronic so I could be
very wrong though. I could be very wrong, but I don’t think the model you’re
looking at has a physical Sim tray, but I could be very wrong in this as well.
That’s just what I’ve gathered from the Keynote that I heard or the Apple
event. Whatever you wanna call it.

And So It Begins: Does Anyone Know How to Buy iPhone 14Pro Max with a Physical SIM Tray from within the United States?

2022-10-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

And so it begins.

I was in one of my local Apple stores, yesterday taking a look at iPhone 14
Pro Max.

It is my hope to purchase an iPhone 14 model with a physical SIM tray.

While discussing this with a store manager, I was somewhat surprised to
learn that, according to him, the store has been inundated by customers who
only want to buy iPhone 14 with a physical SIM tray. He told me that they
are working on crafting an in-store response to the enquiries designed to
discouraged customers from seeking a physical SIM tray. He followed that up
by saying, "I know you, Mark, and no response is going to keep you from
getting that SIM tray model, if that is what you want." (smile) He is a
very smart man (smile).

So, the search begins.

Does anyone know away to purchase an iPhone 14 Pro Max with a physical SIM
tray, from within the United States?

Some people are saying that if you buy a model from the Apple online store,
without designating a wireless provider, that Apple will ship you a model
with a physical SIM tray. However, I cannot locate anyone to confirm this.

Make no mistake, I'm not above taking a short trek up to Canada to pick up a
model but if I can avoid it, I would prefer to do so.

I have a friend who is heading to Japan in a couple of weeks and, of course,
I could have the friend pick up a model, in Japan, but that makes me
somewhat uncomfortable; I don't know why. I think I'd rather go to Canada,
in person, to grab a model.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

Not in your contacts is certainly a part of it. Also, it isn’t carrier specific
as I get this stuff with T-Mobile.

What happens may be carrier-specific – I don’t know.

I find voice mail transcripts less than good, all it takes is for somebody to
be on a Bluetooth car system and they leave a voice mail with background noise
or just when their having poor voice quality and most of it is garbage.
I am surprise however you ask for traditional voice mail because you can simply
play the original message just as you would in regular voice mail or at least
my visual voice mail from Telus in Canada has both the recording and the
transcript.

RE: native calendar discussion

2022-10-18 Thread Richard Turner
Dan and Paula,

Dan, I think you got me on the track to figure this out.

Paula, try this.

Open the Calendar and touch in the bottom left on the Today button and double
tap.

At the top of the screen, find the List button and double tap to select it, or
do nothing if it is already selected.

If this screen is set to list, you can flick right from event to event and hear
the days and times, etc.

Thanks for this, as it is a nice way to get a quick view of the upcoming events.

Paula,

I looked and the only setting I can see that might help is if you have your
calendar sync all events.

In my calendar When I first open it it shows me the current day and if I swipe
right it will show me the events for today. If I tap on the event it will then
show me all events as I described in my earlier posting.

Have you double tapped on one of your events for today and looked to see if you
can then swipe through the other events in your calendar?

I hope this helps some.

I can do either. I just tried to have Siri restart my phone and it
worked like a charm. I will probably do this from now on. Either
that or have Siri shut down my phone. It is pretty cool what Siri can
do these days. I am in the U.S and have an iPhone 13 pro max. I
don't know why anyone would be nervice about having Siri shut down
their phone. All you have to do after asking Siri to shut down, or
restart your phone, you just have to confirm what you want to do. It
is very fast.

Re: native calendar discussion

2022-10-18 Thread Dan

Paula,

I looked and the only setting I can see
that might help is if you have your calendar sync all events.

In my calendar When I first open it it
shows me the current day and if I swipe right it will show me
the events for today.  If I tap on the event it will then show
me all events as I described in my earlier posting.

Have you double tapped on one of your
events for today and looked to see if you can then  swipe
through the other events in your calendar?

I hope this helps some.

Why were you nervous and was it about asking Siri to shut down your phone? If
so I'm not sure why you were nervous, asking Siri to shut it down or shutting
it down yourself with the buttons amounts to the same thing.
Also, you said "when I first got my iPhone 13 Pro Max", but wasn't that before
iOS 16 came out? I was not aware you could tell Siri to restart or shut down

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I wonder if language/region has something to do with it. Tom reported he also
has an XR and it works for him and he is in the US.
Let's see if others can try this and report whether it works and instead of
including only their iOS version and phone model they should also say which
country they are in or at least what language and region they have selected.

SIRI refuses to power off my device.
Reboot/restart doesn't work either.
SIRI just tells me that she can't help me with that.
I'm running iOS 16.0.3 on an iPhone XR.
Anyways I rarely initiate SIRI but using SIRI to shut down my device is
actually cool.
Maybe it only works if system language and SIRI language is English US or maybe
my device is to old haha.
I'm not going to upgrade my iPhone just to be able to reboot with SIRI.

RE: deleting text messages

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
For me there is absolutely no difference between deleting messages in iOS 15
and 16, but as I said, I don't get the prompt to report as spam.
Having said this I think it would be nice if the user could choose whether they
want the prompt whether you really want to delete the conversation or not
especially now when it is possible to recover deleted messages in iOS 16.

RE: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tom, which version of iOS are you using? You say you have an XR, but are you
using the public release of 16.02 or 16.03 or are you on the 16.1 public beta.
Just asking because I'm curious why some people say telling Siri to restart
their phone or to shut down their phone does not seem to work. I can't remember
whether I was already on the iOS 16.1 public beta when I heard that Siri can do
this now or if mysteriously this works for most people but not for some.

I think it would be good if anybody for whom this does not work could say
exactly which iOS version they are on and also which phone they have. I assume
it is possible that it may not work on an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus due to some
hardware limitation.

RE: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
For me it's the opposite, if I hold one of the volume buttons along with the
side button focus always seems to be on Emergency Call and I have to swipe left
to get to power off and that takes me longer than quickly pressing volume up,
volume down and the side button. You have to hold for about 3 seconds if you
hold both buttons together whereas pressing the 3 buttons separately only
requires you to hold the side button for even less than a second and what is
more for me focus is always on power off when I do it that way.
Anyways, to each their own, whatever method you get used to is what you most
likely will use, but I can get to the power off menu by pressing the buttons
quickly and individually in no more than 2 seconds. Of course one has to ask
oneself if it really matters whether it takes 2, 3 or 4 seconds especially
considering that I probably don't shut down my phone more than once a month
and maybe even less now that I can ask Siri to restart the phone. Normally when
I shut down the phone it is because maybe things have gotten a bit strange and
I feel a reboot will clear things up and it's definitely faste to ask Siri to
do this over manually shutting down and turning the phone back on. And for all
of you who say this doesn't work in iOS 16.02 or 16.03, the iOS 16.1 update
will not be long.

Hi to all. I found something very interesting when shutting down my iPhone 13
pro max. When I shut down my phone by holding down the up or down volume and
the side button, I never see the emergency option come up first, as long as I
swipe to the shut down option first. I do not see the emergency option at all,
if I hit the volume up, down, then hit the side button. Since I kind of set my
phone not to show me the emergency option at shut down screen, I will continue
to use the volume down and side button together method. I like volume down and
side together because the shut down screen comes up just a little bit quicker
then if I use the volume up and side button together.

It seems more of a hassle to delete messages in iOS 16. I wish we could have
choices of simpler or advanced in these things.

RE: Return a purchased app

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

Not that Apple couldn't afford it, but keep in mind that a merchant is charged
probably at least $15 or more if you do a charge back which is what you are
describing if you dispute an item with your credit card company.
Also people have to realize that a credit card company may deny a charge back
if, for example, they contacted Apple to investigate and Apple provided the
receipt for the transaction then it is unlikely a charge back would be approved.
Charge backs are for situations where your card is used fraudulently or maybe
if you pay for something and the seller doesn't deliver the item or the item is
defective and the seller refused to take it back etc.
If somebody came to my store with a stolen credit card and they tap it or, for
a bigger purchase, know the Pin and enter it, the loss would be that of Visa or
Mastercard because there is no way for me to know the card was stolen, but if
the real owner of the card did a charge back and I provided a receipt which
showed the card was present and the Pin was entered or that card was tapped the
card provider can't put the blame on me. It is different if I accepted a card
number over the phone because here it is up to me to make sure.

I think also in the receipt you hopefully get via Email, or on the web site
under your account, there is a return link I think.
It has been a very long time since I purchased an app that I wanted a refund
for.

But, calling Apple Accessibility should get you on the right track.
You can always challenge the charge through your credit card company if nothing
else works.

Yes, you should definitely have the "Share" button when the video is open and
from there you can save it to the camera roll, you can save it to Dropbox if
you use it, you can email it to yourself etc.

RE: deleting text messages

2022-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I find voice mail transcripts less than good, all it takes is for somebody to
be on a Bluetooth car system and they leave a voice mail with background noise
or just when their having poor voice quality and most of it is garbage.
I am surprise however you ask for traditional voice mail because you can simply
play the original message just as you would in regular voice mail or at least
my visual voice mail from Telus in Canada has both the recording and the
transcript.

Re: Return a purchased app

2022-10-18 Thread Feliciano Godoy
You can go to the receipt that you received for the app purchase and report a
bug and go through the process there. If I remember correctly, you can go to
the App Store follow my my account, then purchases and look for the app there.
The credit card idea, for this circumstance, may not actually be a good idea as
your bank may block purchases from the App Store.

I'm just speculating here, but my guess is that the "report spam" prompt may

Hi all. I just updated to IOS 16.03. In my native calendar app I used to be
able to read my calendar appointments by simply flicking right and the phone
would announce the date, time and title of each appointment. Now I can only get
it to say “one event” or how ever many events there are on each day. Is this a
change or can I change a setting somewhere to get it to behave the way it used
to? Thanks. I’m very grateful for this list.

native calendar app

2022-10-18 Thread Paula Jordan
Hi all. I just updated to IOS 16.03. In my native calendar app I used to be
able to read my calendar appointments by simply flicking right and the phone
would announce the date, time and title of each appointment. Now I can only
get it to say "one event" or how ever many events there are on each day. Is
this a change or can I change a setting somewhere to get it to behave the
way it used to? Thanks. I'm very grateful for this list.

God bless!

Re: deleting text messages

2022-10-18 Thread Tom Lange
Thanks for the tips regarding deleting multisle messages in a conversation. I'm just speculating here, but my guess is that the "report spam" prompt may be carrier-specific. I'm with AT  and I'm given the option to report the message to my carrier. The other possibility is that the message in question is from someone who isn't in my contacts. Any  thoughts?TomOn Oct 17, 2022, at 4:38 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Open the conversation, flick to the message you want to delete, then flick down to "More" and double tap. This will select the message and at the bottom of the screen  you have options
for "Delete" and "Forward". Obviously delete is what you want to tap on and that particular message will be removed from the conversation.
If you want to delete more than 1 message flick to "More" on the first one, then double tap, now find the next message to be deleted and double tap on it and it will also be selected.
Repeat until you selected all the messages you want to delete and then tap on "Delete" at the bottom. Voiceover will ask to confirm and if you check the screen you will see that it will say something like "Delete 5 messages" (if 5 is how many you selected).

Hello since upgrading any time I delete a text message I get a message asking if I want to report the message. I am usually clicking don’t report. My question is
can I stop this message from coming up each time I delete a text? If so, can someone let me know how to turn this off.

Thank you

Re: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-18 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I found something very interesting when shutting down my
iPhone 13 pro max. When I shut down my phone by holding down the up
or down volume and the side button, I never see the emergency option
come up first, as long as I swipe to the shut down option first. I do
not see the emergency option at all, if I hit the volume up, down,
then hit the side button. Since I kind of set my phone not to show me
the emergency option at shut down screen, I will continue to use the
volume down and side button together method. I like volume down and
side together because the shut down screen comes up just a little bit
quicker then if I use the volume up and side button together.

For me, there’s not so much a delay in the tone, but a delay on Siri
recognizing my dictation or response. If I wait a second and then start my

Re: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-18 Thread Øyvind Lode
SIRI refuses to power off my device.
Reboot/restart doesn't work either.
SIRI just tells me that she can't help me with that.
I'm running iOS 16.0.3 on an iPhone XR.
Anyways I rarely initiate SIRI but using SIRI to shut down my device
is actually cool.
Maybe it only works if system language and SIRI language is English US
or maybe my device is to old haha.
I'm not going to upgrade my iPhone just to be able to reboot with SIRI.

Return a purchased app

2022-10-18 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello list
I purchased an app on my iPhone but the app is inaccessible and in any
case not what I wanted. Is there a way to return the app and get a
refund?
Regards
Fanus

Re: Unable to read passwords in 1Password app

2022-10-18 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi there,

I also had this problem and I was able to fix it. What I did is go to the home
tab of the app, and then double tap on settings. Now double tap on security.
Here there is a toggle to show all passwords and credit card numbers. Turn that
on. You should now be able to read your passwords.

Hope this helps,

Jenn
