Duplicate notes in Notes app.
Here's the situation. I sync my notes to my Gmail account so that I don't lose any of them. When I create a new note, I make sure to be in the all notes view of the app. This setup has always worked fine for me, up until a few weeks ago. I'm not sure exactly when it happens, but I make an edit to a note, and when I come back later to make another edid, I have two copies of the note—one before that edits, and one with the edits. Sometimes it's hard to tell which note has the edids, because I sometimes make a new note between the two edits of the other note, or edit another note between the two edits of the other note. This is getting really frustrating. How can I keep this from happening? I keep a running log of medication notes, and when one note gets too large to edit, I move on to making a new note. My routine is to make a note for a week or two, then make a new note for another week or two, and so on. The reason I do this is because after a point, the note becomes rather unresponsive when typing or editing. I don't delete the other medicationn notes, just make new notes that start on a different date. I hope this makes sense. Go to your Itunes, under info tab, check sync notes and tab to apply. The notes on your phone will sync with your notes in outlook. Hi, A couple of options come to mind. One would be to change the default account for notes to iCloud, rather than Gmail, to see if they're better behaved. Another would be to use an "On My iPHone" account for these notes. Then they won't sync with anything else, so there's no way they could get duplicated. Go to Settings/Notes to change your options. Notes question
Hello, After upgrading to 6.0 I have been having an issue when writing in the Notes Application. Usually starting around page 10 or so, I get an issue that Voice Over is still saying the characters I have typed, catching up to where I had finished. When I get to page twenty or so this problem gets worse, where it takes Voice Over quite a bit longer to catch up to where I stopped typing. Has anyone else seen this issue? Syncing Notes
Hi folks. Wondering if any of you can give me some advice? I use notes an awful lot but I have two pcs and both of them have MS outlook 2007 on them. It is my understanding that my iphone can only be linked with one instance of MS outlook 2007 therefore I am not at present seing the same notes on my iphone and on the two versions of outlook. Firstly, can I sync notes with two versions of outlook? If not does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might have all notes I create listed on both PCs and my Iphone? Editing Notes
Hi all, I have not seen anything that mentioned a problem I have been having since I updated to IOS 7. When I paste text into a note, in the native Note app, I have trouble editing it. My workflow is to paste data from another app into the note, go back to the other app for more data, and then try to add it to the note I already started adding data to. The note does not allow me to edit it, even though it says it is editing. It often has a calendar event imbedded in it, but not always. Has anyone seen this before? The other app I am getting data from is Lords and Knights, but I'm not sure that matters. I can do the same workflow in Pages and it works out just fine. transferring notes
I have another question. I must be daft because I can't see how to copy or transfer notes from the Notes App to somewhere else so I do not have to type them out a second time. I thought that while I was reviewing some notes I actually saw a move or share option but trying to find that again has proved fruitless. I see that I can create a new folder and move notes there but I assume that means another named folder inside the App. The folder where my notes are automatically going is labelled as my g mail address. Locking notes
Hello list, I see you are supposed to be able to lock a note once you have created it. Am I wrong with this assumption? If I am correct could someone please explain how to do this or is it automatic? Hello, In the notes app, is there a way of changing the name of a note? I have not found a way, but did not know if I was missing something. Liner Notes
Hi all, I use Apple Music on my iPhone a lot and have amassed a huge library including rock, classical, jazz, country, all kinds of good stuff. It's a fairly eclectic collection. When I open an album to play it, I notice a button which will show the artwork for the album, which, I presume, includes cover art and the like. Way, way back when, when I used to buy vinyl albums and CD's, I used to sit down with an Optacon and read the liner notes that came with the album or CD, which was cool because I could look at such things as the personnel on the various tracks and even what kind of musical gear was used, et cetera. Is there a way to get that kind of information through Apple Music? I would absolutely love to get access to liner notes if possible. Any ideas? Thanks. Just found my native notes app. Just wanted to say it is great after all this time with iPhone to finally take time to look at it. I used Ita a lot, but after the description about taking messages and copying and pasting in notes, it forced me to use it. Disappearing notes.
Hi list! So I opened my notes app today in order to see a note that I had saved a long time ago, and I could not find it. I had several notes from my old phone that I previously had no problems accessing on my new phone. Now they are all gone, and I did not delete them. does anyone know what could have happened to them or what I can do to find them again? Gerardo, If you go to the native Notes app and if you have a Note or Notes in it, you have to open the Note you want to email and then you should have, among, others, a "Share" button. This should bring up "email", "Print" and "Cancel" as options. If you use Outlook you can enable syncing Notes in iTunes and if you then sync your iPhone with iTunes any notes will be synced with Outlook and show up under "Notes" in Outlook. If you have an Apple @me.com account, you can also enable syncing Notes in iCloud. access notes issues
Hi all, does anyone know how to delete a note from access note? I would have thought one could do it the same way you might do an individual e-mail. also, the note I thought was lost is not. but I can say that though I renamed it twice now, the new name has not taken affect. i tried a word search that I knew I used, but no luck. I never used notes to write texts that are that long. I know in the app "plaintext" vo starts lagging when the document became long. At least it did so on iphone 5 in old ios. I think we don't know enough about how VO works and how big it's text buffer is from which it does it's TTS. It could be a design flaw we're only just coming to terms with. I suspect it is not VO. If that were the case it seems the problem would affect other apps such as iBooks etc. There is always a possibility that 10 pages of notes may be pushing some limit. Seems there is more investigation required. So you're probably right about the amount of text, so we want a real text editor so we can do this. Some of us do really write stuff! Pages is a word processor for tarting it up afterwards, or as you go even; but for scribblers, edit, or some of those old DOS editors like Boxer and so on, would be ideal for this. Let's not go down the Unix/Linux VI, ELVIS and all those, good when you get used to them, but all those commands so counter-intuative. If you don't mind sticking with txt files, PlainText is free and very good. It allows for creating folders and I don't know that you will run into a problem with length, though I haven't written anything that terribly long. NoteMaster is another very good text editor. I believe it runs about $4.00, but there is a light version you can try to see if you like it. They both sync with DropBox. Rob, Don't be knocking' those good old Unix/Linux editors. :) There are a number of apps that might do what you want, but not sure what you want. :) Are you just looking to take notes or actually put together some documents? You have such an array of options I think it might help to know what options you are looking for. You have options such as Elements, which is an editor that uses DropBox. I am sure some will have a number of suggestions. You might also look at http://www.applevis.com and sort through the app directory. yeah, I always think it's funny how people consider control+x and control+v to be intuitive, but control+w and control+y to be unintuitive, especially since many of those Unix editors were around long before you had any editors in DOS or Windows. Don't confuse familiarity with intuitiveness! :-) I personally always hate going back to a DOS/Windows style editor after doing a lot of cutting and pasting in Emacs! Hello, I don't think it is a limitation of the Notes application. This problem never happened before 6.0. As far as what I want to do... I write stories and such in Notes. I used Pages for a while, but got tired of dealing with the accessibility issues there. I want to use something I can use ICloud to have on both my Mac and my IPhone. This is more or less my thing too. If I open a lengthy file, I want to get to my place quickly and easily, edit or modify quickly and easily, insert and import, or even export text to and from it; sort of normal editing features we've been able to do for years, until we got the pocket device. Anybody doing this like I describe? Using the cmd-arrow keys for block marking would have mileage, so would unix and wordstar concepts like block start and block end using ctrl-B and K respectively. The Wordstar one did try to be intuiative about it. HI, I use plaintext for long documents. On iphone 4 it was getting slow after it became longer. Have not tried on the 5. I have not found a good way to find a specific spot in a file other than arrowing with the keyboard. However, I found that it does remember where you left the cursor even after exiting the app. Have not tested if it does so with multiple files. Hope this helps. I love the dropbox integration! Try clearing out your app switcher and then turning your iOS device off and then on. Before opening anything else, run notes and see if you continue to have the same problem. This is to test if there is a memory issue occurring for you. A memory issue is extremely likely if you are running an iPhone 3GS. It is also somewhat likely on an iPhone 4. Apple added new features to iOS 6 which require more RAM memory use by iOS. Running an app on my iPhone which displays amount of memory being used by different running apps, it becomes obvious that VO uses a substantial amount of RAM. Double tap the New Folder icon. Swipe back to the left to find the location where you want to type the name of the new folder. It should be an edit field that announces the time. Once you type the new name, then swipe to find the Done button. I'm sorry my directions aren't specific enough. However, I've created some folders and think I have to do things a little different because I already have folders vs. if I didn't have any folders. Hi Jen, Double tap the new folder button. Now depending on where you want to create the new folder you will need to double tap a button which appears in the upper right area of the screen along the edge. I have only My iPhone as a choice but I think you can create in dropbox as well. Anyway, double tap the button where you want the folder and you'll be placed in an edit field where you can type the name of the folder. Once you've typed the name, double tap the done button in the upper right part of the screen. Voila! Now your folder will show up in the list. I hope that helps. I got around syncing notes by getting the Plaintext text editor app, which among other file types lets you view and edit rich text and text files. Plaintext also lets you sync with your Dropbox account. I had a note with all my diabetes information, like blood sugar readings and times. I opened the note, selected all the text, and copied it to the clipboard. I then went into Plaintext, created a new document, gave it a name, and then when on the document contents area, pasted the clipboard contents, and saved the file by hitting the back button. This way, anytime I change the file on my phone or computer, it will be updated on my Dropbox account. The only trick with this method is I was not able to find the back button with my Bluetooth keyboard. I had to put a finger in the upper left corner of the screen and then found the back button that way. Chris. Thanks for this suggestion. I did try it and also had a look around on the net. The problem with using gmail to store my notes is that I can only create them from my IPhone. I'd like to be able to create notes on either pC and then have it sync automatically with my IPhone. I also looked at the ICloud website and while the buttons are readable, they don't seem to do an awful lot when you press enter on them because I thought this might be a good solution to my problem. What's your email client? I've heard people using Outlook have been able to add a note to their Notes folder and have it synced with their iPhone. I use Thunderbird, and this doesn't work for me. I'd suggest going with a cloud option. I don't use iCloud, but I do use Ubuntu One and Google Drive. DropBox is also wildly popular. One tool I use is Note Master Lite. It will let you read and edit documents in Google Drive from your iPhone, so I can update them with Chrome/ChromeVox on my PC running Ubuntu as well as with Note Master Lite on my iPhone. There are other options to do this as well which are discussed here on this list from time to time. Notes and backup?
i'm trying to transfer Notes from old phone to new phone, no PC or iTunes solutions thank you. On the old phone, accounts claim iPhone, and iCloud. On the new phone, i have iCloud and gMail, so I ticked notes for gMail for some reason, but don't have any. I have backed up the old phone, but how do i get the notes from the old to the new? In essence,we need to Move/copy, duplicate the message under the so-called iPhone account to the iCloud account. I did one important one by using copy from one and starting a new note and pasting. Notes and cloud
Hi listers, I've been experimenting more with iCloud in general and having some success. Recently I tried to use the Apple Notes app to quickly sink info to and from my iPhone and my computer. I've had almost complete success. I'm hoping someone can help with the last step. I set up my phone to sink with iCloud and made sure that my computer was also set up with notes and mail set to sink in iCloud. Now when I make a note on my phone it shows up immediately in my in box in mail. I would like the opposite to also happen but am having trouble. I press command Control N, when in mail and make a new note. It doesn't sink over iCloud. When I sink my phone with iTunes it does sink and the note shows up on my phone. I would like to use this as a way of pasting text into a note on my computer, then having it show up on my iPhone in Notes. I could then copy and paste it into List recorder or other iPhone app. On the other direction it is sometimes nice to make a note and then find it waiting for me in my mailbox. So, I'm able to sink using iCloud from my iPhone to my Mac but not the other way around. yet, If I sink using iTunes it works. I am not using iCloud backup but didn't think this was the problem as iCloud is working one direction from the phone to computer. I just need the other direction to work. Perhaps when I create a new note it is not considered to be from iCloud, as there is also a notes folder under on My Mac. How could I be sure the note is under iCloud? I wonder if the old 4S can support an update. I have nothing to lose with trying to update the old phone since I stripped some of the more consuming apps off it and did not transfer any photos or videos. I assume the notes will copy over to the new phone when it arrives today. I do all my backups using I Tunes and never used I Cloud to back up. Me again. Is there a way to check and see if the Notes App is part of my back up? Can I assume it is and always will be? I am reluctant to reset the phone back to factory defaults until I am sure they have been copied. They won't transfer to the old 4S maybe because it has not been updated to 9._ yet. Yes you can. First, you need to go to Settings, then Notes. You should find an option to set a password. Double-tap on that. The password you put there will be the password for whatever notes you decide to lock. After that, you can lock a note by doing the following: Open the note you want to lock in the Notes app. Double-tap on Share. Double-tap on Lock Note. Isn't the name of the note just the first text in the note? Couldn't you just edit the note and insert or change the text in the beginning of the note to change it's name? Hi all, I am working with the clients iPad and I found a problem. There is difficulty with going line by line in a document in notes when the document is written in paragraph format. I have tried using the keyboard and using my finger on the touchscreen to go line by line. Even when I make sure the rotor is set to go by line it is not working. Any suggestions would be welcome. hi, I've heart that some music you buy from the iTunes store comes with a 'digital booklet' I assume this would have the information you used to get with the CD or Cassette tapes if any remember those. but, I'm not sure how this would be accomplished on just an apple music subscription. Hi Tom, A few, and I really mean a few, albums come with a PDF booklet when you buy them through iTunes Store. They have some of what you are talking about. I'm not sure they have everything the old liner notes used to have, or if liner notes are just not as complete as they used to be. The Book of Mormon CD has a booklet. Many of the songs are shown as "explicit," which is true. Holly Happy Days, a Christmas album by the Indigo Girls came with a digital booklet. They are accessible and will download with the album, but you may have to open then in iBooks to get them to show up where you can read them. Hi Tom, Richard, and Others, I listen to a lot of classical music, and these labels typically had/have extensive liner notes for their CDs. It turns out that for some of these titles you can download the PDF digital booklets from the label's web site. Here's an example: I have an old CD recording of Christopher Herrick playing Back Toccata and Fugues on the organ from a Hyperion recording. Hyperion is one of the classical record labels that offers PDF digital booklets for their music. Now, it's easiest if I know the CD of the recording, which in this case is CDA66434, and type that into the search box, but in general I may not know that. So, I'll type in something like "Herrick Bach Toccata and Fugues" and press return on my computer, since I'd usually do this on my Mac. Then, I'd navigate to "Albums" and find the two albums listed there. Mine is the second, older one, so I'd select its web page: http://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA66434 On the album web page, I'd navigate to the link for "Digital booklet (PDF)" and download the booklet. There's an AppleScript on the AppleScripts for iTunes site called PDF Adder: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=pdfadder This will let me use the same tags to add the PDF booklet to my iTunes library. As for why record stores don't provide more digital booklets under iTunes, read this article: http://www.mcelhearn.com/why-record-labels-dont-provide-more-digital-booklets-on-the-itunes-store/ Basically, Apple imposes a specific format for digital booklets. Discussion about how we like to use our phones If willing to accept a learning curve and starting from scratch with a new operating system, it’s possible to do practically most every day tasks accomplished with a computer using iOS devices. Examples are: Listening to favorite cds, books from CNIB or bookshare or many other commercial reading sources, internet radio. Surfing the web, reading Emails writing mails and text messages,Taking notes using an external keyboard or writing on the iOS device using Braille input or taking audio recording memos. Blindness specific aids such as OCR, reading pdf files, planning routes and getting orientation info similar with tracker, light detector etc. Social advantage of using devices that everyone else uses. Further, the interface we use is similar enough to relate and receive and give help with operating iOS devices to sighted users. Difficulties when starting out with iOS Orientation without buttons, learning the physical layout of the screen. Performing gestures efficiently. Text input and keypad use. Areas where current cisg members using iOS want to expand in future meetings MBraille and other Braille input options on the iphone. Surfing the web efficiently with safari. Using BlindSquare, a gps app with lots of features. Making phone calls efficiently dealing with extension and keying in options once the call is in progress such as voicemail passwords. Exploring skype on the iPhone. Potentially looking at emailing with iphone? Please add any topics here you’d like addressed in our next meetings. Where do we go from here? Notes App Questions
Hi all, I wanted to set up a schedule using the Notes app. I used it by clicking on new note then dictation. I had the following issues: - no matter how many times I said 9PM the note read 8:45PM. I tried 4 times. This isn't a big deal as it is the end time not the start. Still, it is very odd. Maybe my phone is so old it doesn't want to stay up until 9?? - Some of the notes show up with only a few words & VO says no more text. I tap on the note & get the full text. Other notes seem to have the full text I entered. None of my entries is very long. Again, not the end of the world since I can get the whole text but odd. - Lastly, when you just create a new note, is it a heading of sorts? Should I have created a note saying Schedule then tapped on it to create detailed notes under it? Could this be why only some of the text of some of my notes shows up on the main screen? Native Notes app?
Hello, I’m having trouble with the new and improved native Notes app. I used to love it because it was idiot proof and basically just a sheet of paper. Question about notes.

RE: Disappearing notes.
It would depend on which accounts you had setup on your own phone and if you have all of these accounts also on your new phone. I, for example, have 3 accounts: there is iCloud, I then have my business email which is via Microsoft 365 and also my personal Outlook email also through Microsoft 365. I can have notes under each account and as long as I set up all of these accounts on my next phone and make sure Notes is turned on under each account they should always be there as at least with Exchange and Microsoft 365 they are saved in the cloud just as is the case with my contacts. My iCloud notes also have never been an issue. What I mean is, the notes I write are currently emailed to the address I've identified in the settings under notes. But is it possible to keep a copy of the note on the phone as well? If this is not possible with the native notes app, is there another app that would allow me to both email the note and keep a copy on the phone? Any tips on reading Notes in native iOS Notes app?
Hi, IN the native iOS Notes app, it seems I can only read the notes by a read all command, or line by line. Other forms of navigation within a note do not seem available, such as skip to bottom. If they are not staying on the phone, you may want to look at the settings. But, PlainText (free), Meteor Notes $2.99, and many others allow you to Email as well as store the notes. Hi Kim, There is no reason why you can't keep the note after emailing it to yourself, I just told SIRI to "Note This is a test" and SIRI created the note "This is a test". I then chose "Share" and emailed it to myself, but the note is still on my iPhone of course until I manually delete it. For some strange reason my notes seen to be emailing automatically, in other words I don't tell the app to do anything with the note and yet the next time I open my email the note is there and gone from my phone and I really don't know why. There's a field within settings that's called default email or something like that. Whatever address I put in that field is where my notes seen to be going. Hi, The paid version of meteor notes gets you unlimited notes and folders. It also lets a developer who is extremely responsive to VoiceOver users, know that people appreciate the work he has done. I think the free version limits you to a certain number of messages. Hi Keith, In Notes, if I want to skip to the bottom, I can double tap in the canvas or body of the note and it will go to the bottom. It should say insert at end. That is where the cursor would be. I also use Voicedream Writer or Drafts to compose the note, then after using a fine-tooth comb over it, I paste it into a Note. Hi Denise, To delete a note, find it in the list of notes, double-tap and hold, and swipe right. Then choose Delete when asked to confirm whether to delete the note. You have to be in the note in order to rename it. With the note open, press Option-R on a qWERTY keyboard or dot 8 with R on a braille one. An edit box will appear where you can create a new name. Then press Enter, I believe. I haven't had any notes disappear (knock on wood). Did you move them to a different folder using your computer, by any chance? Hi Anna, Try as I might, I can't get the delete strategy you mention to work. I double tap and hold and swipe right. I hear the sound when I have done the double tap and hold, but nothing happens when I swipe right. I am on the note title and not in the note. The only way I have been able to delete files is to delete them in dropbox and then sync. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Hi, ok, i don't think i pressed the enter key. i just issued the command to rename the file while inside of it, and then once i typed the name, i either hit the back or done button or whatever it said - i do not have the phone in front of me. i don't think i moved the file anywhere. i don't know how to do that yet. i will however see if i did a drop box sync, though i don't think this would cause the file to disappear from the device. but thanks for your help. this is suppose to be an easy app to use. maybe i am doing something wrong though i did read the help file. Neal, my experience is the same as yours. I can delete podcasts in Downcast and apps from my home page, but not files from Access Note. Drop box is the only way I have done it. Does anyone know whom to contact for support? I left a msg on the general mailbox of AFB but have never got a call back. Lift your finger and flick and you will see a confirm deletion button. The critical step is not to lift your finger before swiping right after the double-tap and hold. I do not hear it. I have to find the confirm delete button by swiping right just as you suggested. So, it may have been there all along but I was expecting a response from Access Note. Robert and Neal, try as I might this is not working. I tried double tapping with one finger and holding my finger there until I hear the three clicks Robert describes below. No clicks. All that happens is that the note opens. I tried double tapping with two fingers. That produced the text box to relable the button. What am I doing wrong? Sandy, what I do is double tap and hold, and then with my finger still on the screen, I swipe right. I do the swipe in a quick motion, I'm not sure if this matters. Then once I do this, I lift up my finger and swipe right until I find the confirm delete button. Does this help? Sandy, Here's how I do it and it works reliably for me. Double tap and hold until you hear the tones. Without lifting your finger just slide it to the right. You can do this in a slow, smooth motion. I usually let my finger drop off the right edge of the phone then I touch along the right side of the screen approximately where the title of the note was and I find the confirm delete button and double tap it. Hi Neal, For me, this works exactly like deleting in any app that doesn't have an action menu. Be sure to slide your finger quite a ways to the right, maybe half an inch. Then if you flick right once doing a regular small flick, you should reach the Confirm Deletion button. Double-tap it to delete. Some people slide to teh left after doing the double-tap and hold, rather than sliding to the right. This works too. And if flicking right doesn't take you to the Confirm Deletion button, try flicking left. I use Droptext too, good for what it does; and Notebox is the same as notes, but puts them on Dropbox too; so you can then find them with Droptext of course. DropVox does the same for voice recordings. Notes or to-do's
What I wish to have is an app that will allow me to place things to do in the list at different times instead of changing to a note each time. I also would like the app to be able to be emailed. Eric, In the Mail preferences on your Mac, under Composing, there is a pop-up to select where your Notes should be saved. Also, when you have created your Note, press command-S to update and save it. This way, you will obtain the flexibility you want in both directions. HOpe this helps. Hi John André, I could have looked for a long time and never found that button! Thank you very much! It now works just as I hoped. Now Notes is a convenient way for me to move text to my iPhone. Also, even though my note is initially showing up in my in box I can easily move it to the iCloud Notes folder and it is then saved for future use but not cluttering up that all important in box space. John or others, I've looked and must be missing a setting. I'd like to be able to keep my notes in the note folder but they keep popping up in my in box even after I move them. They seem to go there when I reed them in the Notes appp. Does anyone remember how to tell mail to keep the notes in the Notes folder? I used to have this setting back in Snow Leopard. I'm using the new Mail view so that could be part of my problem finding the setting.
