One way or the other, I don't think either one of us will be going forward to an old phone. I'm due for an upgrade so I'm looking forward to the announcement so I can decide if I will buy outright a 5C and get a plan without a contract or go for a 5S on a plan. According to what I've read, the 4S 8 GB will become the new free phone. I would suspect that support for the iPhone 4 will be dropped just like it did when the iPhone 5 came out and they dropped support for the 3GS. As I said though, I don't care because my 32 GB iPhone 4 even with out siri has been a pleasure to own and use. I've been saving up for this new iPhone when it comes out, I want the largest size hard drive I can lay my hands on believing sense it is a solid state hard drive, it's better to have and not need it then to need and not have it. I like having my music collection on my iPhone. My wife and I have already discussed ditching my Mackintosh 6200 intergraded amp from 1980 and all my old large components and going with my Bose Sound Dock 10 and my iPhone. Eventually I'll get new audio/video gear probably Bose gear. I've got a 5.1 channel surround system but rarely use it any more. I haven't used it probably in a year. Hi, I’m really not sure what you mean. Why would the iPhone 4 and 4S not be going away? Why would Apple continue to make such dated hardware? That’s really what we are talking about hear, the supply of phones to be had. I would guess, a couple months after the new iPhones are released this year, the only way to get a 4 or 4S would be to buy one used. And I feel the same way about the iPhone 5. Why would Apple bother making it with the iPhone 5C in the pipe line? That would definitely be a case of duplicating one’s efforts. JMO. Hi Christopher, I think it's very safe to assume that the 4S will go away because of what you said about the 5C and the 30 Pin connector. Except for the 5C having a 4 inch display and Lightning connector it is much more like the 4S than the 5 is since it is rumored to have the a5 processor. I think it is more than conceivable that there will only be a couple of versions of the 5C and the new 5S in 32 Gb, 64 Gb and 128 Gb. Of course now that it is Sunday afternoon we will all know in less than 48 hours. Speculation is fun of course *smile*. Hi Chris, You can already get a 128 Gb iPad and while of course there is much more space in an iPad, putting 128 Gb of storage into an iPhone is not so hard. There are already 256 Gb SDXC cards available and even that card is only the size of a stamp. Micro SD cards go as large as 64 Gb and they aren't bigger than your little finger nail. Hi all, I think it is very safe to say that Apple does not manufacture anymore phones right now than the 5 and have stop manufacturing the 5 now as they begin to roll out the 5C and the 5S. In my mind, they haven't been manufacturing any IPhone 4 since the 4S came out and 4S since the 5 came out. Why should they manufacture old phones when they have loads of phones in stock. Companies have to purchase a certain number of phones and don't sell them all right away due to the great number of phones Apple forces them to buy. If you buy a new 4S right now, you can be sure its old stock. When there is no more old stock, then they start selling used ones and when there are no more used ones, they give you a deal to buy the next model up that they are stuck with anyway because there are 2 other models out by then and life goes on. I had my 4S swapped out about two weeks ago because the volume button was broken on it and since I had insurance on it through the carrier, I figured why not get it replaced even though my upgrade was due for September 1st. Sprint gave me a reconditioned device which I expected and I was told that they weren't working with brand new 4S's anymore. For my purposes the reconditioned phone was perfectly fine since I plan on getting the new 5S or whatever it'll be called when it comes out and will either give my wife my quazi-new 4S or simply sell it along with all the accessories like Mophie Juice Pack, rubber protective case and extended charging cable if the cheaper 5C turns out to have comparable or better specs than the 4S so we can both have phones with lightning connectors. Hi Christopher, I wouldn't mind betting with you that between Apple and its re-sellers they do have way more than a year's worth of stock especially since Apple sales have been seriously going down. For the past 3 months, I've been getting text messages from Bell Canada trying to get me to upgrade my phone at a good price. That's only because they have a stock of IP5 to get rid of before the 5S comes out and they do that every summer before the new model arrives. About 6 months after the IP 4S came out, a friend of mine dropped his IP4 in water and ruined it. He wanted to change it for another IP4 but they didn't have any more new ones so they offered him a refurbished one or a very good deal on a 4S. Had they been still manufacturing the 4, they would have been able to get him a new one rather than giving him such a good deal on the 4S. They probably still have parts to repair the 4 and the 4S but I'm sure they have been out of production for a very long time. But, of course, that is only my opinion. Well, it doesn't look like we'll be changing each others minds, so I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. From what I've read, the 4 and 4S are still being manufactured, or at least they were a few months ago when Apple added another manufacturer to their low end iPhone supply chain. Modern companies don't keep vast inventories of stock around any more. Storing stock is extremely expensive Companies try to optimize their supply chain as much as possible. I'm not sure if they still use terms like just in time manufacturing, but the science or art of not having any more inventory around than absolutely necessary has been around for decades. I think it's more likely they were just out of stock of the iPhone 4 than it was they weren't manufacturing the iPhone 4 anymore. In managing their supply chain, Apple tries to predict iPhone sales. For example, Apple has cut it's iPhone manufacturing a bit to track with the slightly sluggish sales caused by smart phone fatigue in the marketplace. Was this a 16G iPhone 4S? From Googling around a bit, it looks like I could still get a new 16G iPhone 4S from Sprint for $0 with a 2 year contract. It also looks like I can still order an 8G iPhone 4 or a 16G iPhone 4S from Apple. I agree the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will eventually stop being manufactured. One rumor is that the 4S will be the entry level model, with it's smaller screen, the 5C will be the midrange model and the 5S will be the high end model. In this scenario, the iPhone 5 would stop being manufactured since the 5C is so similar except for the plastic body. Given that the 4S still has the 30 pin connector though

Just as a curiosity, I stumbled across these two links. They don't prove anything either way, but I thought they were interesting. No I don't think so the 5 will be staying. I know a friend who will be upgrading to the 5 very shortly so this is proof. Hi Reggie, Jesus and others, I can't say if the 5 will go away or not and I doubt until next Tuesday anybody can say for sure unless maybe Tim Cook and a few others; unfortunately I don't think Tim is on this list *smile*. In any case, in my opinion it is possible that both the 4S and 5 will go away and only the new 5S and 5C phones will be options going forward. What Chris says about his friend upgradingto a 5 shortly means little since I don't know what shortly means. Of course if I walked into a store tomorrow and said I wanted a new iPhone then I could buy an iPhone 5 although why anybody right now would even upgrade to begin with is beyond me. Even if Apple discontinues the iPhone 5 to push people into either the 5S or 5C, There will still be many phones in the supply chain so that for at least some weeks one can probably get a very good deal on an iPhone 5. As I said in my last message, all shall be revealed in a couple of days.
