Re: The TV guide App

2018-02-18 Thread Andy Baracco
if you are referring to TV Guide Mobile, it is completely accessible after
you get past the welcome screen, which is not. I can't remember exactly what
i did to get passed it, but I believe I turned off Voiceover, and swiped to
the left.

Hello everyone,

I just signed in to the TV guide App. I hadn't used it in quite a while.

I was wondering, is this App no longer accessible?

I ask, because I can't seem to get past the welcome screen.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this App to work?

If not, is there a different App out there that will work just as well?

Thank you,

Terri

RE: The TV guide App

2018-02-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Terri,

The TV Guide Mobile app for iOS is completely VoiceOver accessible, once you
get past the Welcome screen. It's been quite some time since I encountered the
Welcome screen but if I recall, you can perform a 3-finger swipe from
right-to-left in order to get to the end of the welcome messages and then
activate the Done/Got-it, button.

I use a lot of the native apps such as music mail and weather on a daily basis
so those don't count. My favorite apps by third parties are as follows:
Downcast my number one go to app on a daily basis A must have.
two bard
three dropbox
 for dual lingo
 five Audible
Six blindfold travelcards
 seven I associate two
8 Seven little words
Nine newsify
 10 sound cloud
You might notice that I have quite a few games on my list of favorites, it is
because as a child, it was hard to come by any game That was accessible to
someone who couldn't see. So I enjoy a lot of my games and I have over 50 games
on my phone. My phone has truly open up a whole new world for me. That's one
reason why I just love Apple!

Re: Tv Guide App issue

2017-01-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Terri,

I just performed exactly what you described by getting a listing of my favorite
channels at 7pm tonight. I got several screens of channels and swiping right
advanced through them to the next screen with one exception. My listing
contained advertising and when I came to an ad, swiping right would often not
proceed to the channel below it. Once it jumped me to the bottom menu and once
focus just seemed to stick on the ad. I would suggest if you hear anything
that's not a channel while you're swiping that you place your finger below
where the ad is to reestablish focus and start swiping again.

Good luck.

You should be able to use this with over the air. You just set it up that way
in the beginning. There is also an app called TV Listings which you might like.
It definitely works with over the air.

I don’t use this app, but you might want to try and swipe up with 3 fingers to
bring more of the listing into view.

Hello everyone.

I finally have the Tv Guide App acting right for me, to a point.
I can now set alerts, witch is great. I had to reinstall the App, and do a few
other things for that feature to work properly.

Anyway, i have a favorites list of channels. There are many, maybe at least 100.
When i go to a specific time, and i try looking at the channel listings, i
almost always have this issue. I can't seem to view the whole list. I might get
to about 20 channels, or so. But then it takes me to the search area, or just
somewhere else on the screen. If i try, i can sometimes go through the listings
backward. But of course, i do not always want to do this. Plus, it does not
always work.

So i was wondering, does anyone else who uses this App have any similar issues
like this?
If so, what do you do about it? Or deal with it?

Thank you,

Terri

2017-01-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Terri,

When you look at the email header of any post you see this:

From: viphone@googlegroups.com; on behalf of; Mary Otten

As you can see, the sender's direct email address is contained in this line, if
you use Jaws you can simply press Jaws Key+Shift+R, Jaws will say "replying
directly to sender" and the sender's direct email is now in the "To" field. I
can't remember, however, in which version of Jaws this was introduced, I am
using Jaws 18. Otherwise you can shift tab to the From field or use the Jaws
cursor, put focus on the email address of the person, press the application
menu key or Shift+F10 or right click and then choose "Copy" from the menu. Now
start a new email or use the "Forward" command and once you are in the "To"
field you just press Control+V to paste in the address. I am posting this
publically since while not iOS related, I thought it may help others who want
to reply directly to somebody and don't know how.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello Mary,

I do not see an address to contact you off-list. So I figured I would just go
about it this way.

I wanted to apologize to you, regarding the TV Guide App. I gave you
some incorrect information, not even realizing that I had.

Apparently, you do need an account, in order to set up a favorite
channels list. I could not remember this at all! Even more so, I do not
remember setting up an account. But I did, at some point. I have had
this App for some time now.

I learned that I have an account, because I went under the settings
option, and to account. There I see my email address, and rather or not
I want to sign out.

So I do apologize to you for this mistake, and for the confusion, and
frustration this had to cause you.

I hope you can get an account set up pretty easily, and that you can
enjoy this App.

Re: TV Guide App

2016-12-31 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Terry and all. The TV Guide app is as you have described. The first message
I was sending which talked about a different app didn't have that date and time
button that the TV Guide app has. However, it has an easy way of setting up
what channels you want to watch. My experience with the TV Guide app was like
this.

I got rid of the screen to sign in with an account or giving them my email. I
turned off voiceover and swiped past the introductory screens then turn
voiceover back on. I saw that in listings, it's set to all channels, after you
have selected your provider of course. In settings, you can choose what you
want on the listings screen, so I selected favorites. Since I had no favorites,
it started by showing me the entire list of channels available through the
provider I had selected and I was supposed to select those I wanted in
favorites. Every time I double tapped on a channel that I wanted to keep in
favorites, I got that screen where it wants you to give it your email address
or sign in with a provider. I dismissed it and kept on selecting favorites,
dismissing that screen each time I selected one. At the end, there is no save
button and so the only thing to do is to go back to the top and go back to the
settings screen. At that point, I got some kind of a message about needing to
sign in to save favorites or something like that, I can't exactly remember. So
how you guys are getting favorites without having an account or signing in
through Google or wherever is quite beyond me.

I am looking at the App now, so I can give you an idea. I may not

But toward the bottom of your screen, you have different options.
listings, watch list, discover, and settings, and more.

I haven't checked them all out yet. But if you go in to settings, you

double tap on it, then swipe right to see what the next channel in the
list is. This process may take some time, depending on what kind of
package you have, and just how many channels you receive. It did take me
some time.

After you finish the favorites, I can't remember if it takes you out of
settings, or not. But if it does, you can go back in there, and change
the start screen. I have mine to show listings.

Also, there is a manage alerts button, but I haven't messed with this
one. When I have checked it out, I am told I have to register my device.
I am not sure how to go about doing this. So I just left it alone.

You can change the date, and time. When you tap on the change date and
time button, it will show, jump to any time. Keep reading to the right,
and you will see an option for today. I am not sure how many days
forward you can go.

Then swipe right, and this is where you can change the hour. Then swipe
right again, and you can set it at 30 minutes, or 00 minutes, which of
course is an hour. Then you have the option for A.M, or P.M. Swipe to
the right again, and you will have the change time button. Double tap on
this, then of course you will see your choices.

When you are looking at your options, when you are in your listings, you
have a customize button, which if you tap on this, just gives you to see
your favorites, or all of your channels. Of course, favorites is
highlight if you have it set this way.

After the change date and time button, there is a search button.

I hope this is helpful for you and anyone else. If you have anymore
questions, you can feel free to write me off-list. I'll gladly help you
the best that I can.

Terri

Hello Amy,

I can assure you that the TV Guide Mobile app does, indeed, display and,
consequently, VoiceOver does announce both the call letters and channel number
in the channel listings table. For example, VoiceOver might say, "KCBS, 2" or
"CNN, 38".

Make certain that you have the correct app and that you have the Listings tab
selected.

Hello Larry,

While I’m not certain as to what you are referring to when you write ,"I can
get past the screen where you choose to use e-mail," I can tell you that the TV
Guide Mobile app is VoiceOver accessible once you get past the introductory
screens. Also, make certain that you are running the latest version of iOS.
Some members ask a sighted person to navigate the one-time intro screens as a
means to skip this process.

Hi. I bring up the tv guide app on my 5s and can get past the screen where you
choose to use e-mail, etc. But I can’t get past the screen that says “swipe
left to see options” or something like that. Nothing seems to work.

Hi. Mark, I sent a copy of your problem report through the feedback function
of the TV Guide app yesterday morning, and I received a response back from
Millicent Scott of the TV Guide Mobile team indicating that they're aware of
the issue and are fixing it. I suspect that that's a canned response, but it's
still a good idea for everyone who is having trouble with the app to write to
them, strength in numbers and all that. BTW, a couple of things. Version 5.0.1
just hit the app store this morning and my first impression is that it works a
little bit better, but I have yet to really put it through its paces. Also,
there is an alternative app that you can use which works fairly well, although
it, too, has some quirks. Look for an app called "TV Listings" sold by the TV24
Group. I'll offer a couple of caveats here with regard to this app. First, if
you're setting up without sighted assistance, do it with location services
turned on and let the app use GPS to pick your location. If you try to enter
your zip code manually, the submit button is problematic. Let GPS provide the
zip for you and you can then tap the confirm button or whatever it's called and
you're on your way. Select your TV provider and you're good to go. Be aware,
also, that the app doesn't consistently show channel numbers in the listings,
but that's not necessarily a deal breaker. Double-tap on the channel name and,
near the top of the resulting screen, you'll see the actual chanel number.

Re: Tv guide app

2015-10-05 Thread Hope Paulos
I just updated this app to the latest version, and it seems that all excess
ability is broken unless I may be using it incorrectly… I can't navigate around
the app, I can't do searches, and I can't see any of my channels…

Another TV Guide app question

2013-11-18 Thread Shane clark
Hello everyone,
Using the latest version of the TV Guide app with iOS 7.3, I was having trouble
getting the edit box to show up when searching for a show, channel, etc.… Now
however, whenever I am searching for a channel, I can't seem to get that
channel's screen to show up with the latest TV shows. For example, I have my
listings set to my favorite channels, when I search for a channel, VO says
search results, and I see the channel when it displays. But when I tap on it to
view what is currently on, the app seems to go right back to my list of
favorite channels. What can I do to resolve this?
Thanks.

Re: Accessible TV Guide APP and possible DVR APP?

2013-10-01 Thread Steve
Their UVerse remote app kind of works for scheduling programs and you can
also do it via computer. The standard remote is easy for working the VCR,
if you bring up a list of recorded programs, the most-recent is at the top.
After you watch a program, hit the Stop button. You will then be in a menu
wheere the first option is exit and resume viewing from current spot, the
next one as you arrow down is exit the program; the third one deletes that
program (I Think), and the fourth one is delete all programs. Confirm those
with your installer.

TV Guide app was working in IOS6 but not in IOS7

2013-09-28 Thread Larry Lumpkin
The TV Guide app was working beautifully in ios 6.3 but it is not working at
all well in ios 7. I would appreciate anyone else's experience with this
app in ios7. When I try to bring up the hallmark chanel (I just put "hal"
in the text field because I wasn't sure of the proper spelling) I got
results that showed me chanel 39 as the first choice. I double-tapped on
that expecting to be shown a schedule but got nothing.

The TV Guide app needs to be updated.

2013-09-18 Thread Chuck Dean
Hi all,
I was trying to select a new time in the TV Guide app, and it is no longer
accessible with voiceover. The rest of the app works fine, just the picker for
setting time does not work.

To isolate the channel, double tap. Otherwise, I think it puts you on the

Subject: TV Guide App

Hi,
I just installed the TV Guide App, and so far it seems to be a really cool
app. My questions are, when I search for let's say channel 106 I see Results
for channel 107. Is this a bug within the app? Also, when I tap on the
change time button, nothing happens. So am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, Shane.

Re: TV Guide App

2013-07-16 Thread Victor Hugo Gallegos
Hi!
I see what you mean, I just tried jumping to a channel. I typed in channel 56,
which is the history channel, and Voice over started reading me results for
channel 58, I think voice over is reading the last item that's on the screen,
when it jumps to a channel other channels are still listed there.
I recommend, when you jump to a channel, after voiceover read the results, run
your finger on the left side of the screen from the top going towards the
bottom until you find the channel number that you actually wanted.
Another thing you can do is, if you know the name of the network you want, you
can change to search for networks, instead of going to a channel, for example I
searched for the history channel network which is HISTW, and it gave me two
different channels for the history channel.
Here is how to change the date, and time, after you double tap on change date
and time, touch the bottom of the screen going from left to right.
On the bottom left you will hear today, that's to change the date, slick right,
you got that hour, click write again, and you got minutes, flick right one more
time, and you got a.m., or p.m. These fields will read is picker item, so you
flick up to change them, and you have to find the go button, so after you
changed p.m., or AM, move your finger from the bottom right of the screen
towards the top and you will find the go button, double tap, then you will
get results.

Registering Within the TV Guide App

2013-05-23 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,

I am having difficulty trying to register my id within the TV guide app. In
order to save channels as favorites, you have to register.

I keep getting the error that my passwords don't match, even though I am sure
they do, especially after typing them several times, or the error that my
display name is invalid. I do not know what they are looking for as a display
name.

If anyone has had success registering within this app and you have any hints, I
would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Pam

OK To Update To NEW TV Guide App

2012-09-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Gang,

The subject line says it all,

A new version of the TV Guide app was released today.

I am happy to report that VoiceOver accessibility was not broken. The app
is as wonderful as always.

Even better, with iOS 6, you can launch it via Siri. To do so, simply
activate Siri and say "TV Guide".

your iOS device, you currently have version 2.2.1 which is VoiceOver
accessible. It is, however, not the version that I wrote about as it is yet
to be released.

Hello Mary Ellen,

The TV Guide Mobile app is free and offers listings for all the major
television providers in the US. I would say all of them but, doubtless, I
would be proven wrong. (Smile).

2012-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Keith,

Yes.

More to the point, assuming that you have the app on your phone at the time
of update, you will see that an update is available, upon checking for new
updates. As you have no doubt noticed, there is a bug with regard to the
App Store Badge update notification with regard to VoiceOver.

That is to say, at least for me, not since v3.x of iOS have I received an
App Store update notification.

This bug was reported long, long ago and has been well documented.

In my case, as a result of this bug, I open the App Store via the App Store
badge on my iPhone at least once a day in order to see if there are updates
available.

Hello Richard and thank you for the acknowledgement.

You are very gracious and I appreciate it a great deal.

I wanted to stay close to the developers of the TV Guide Mobile app for many
reasons, not the least of which being, that it is extremely important that
mainstream entertainment entities and their affiliates need to be aware
that we, as blind and low vision people, are here and that we're watching
also.

Although I applaud NFB for providing TV listings in a marvelously simple yet
comprehensive mobile interface, I am a huge fan of off-the-shelf solutions
which, very frequently, offer more features, in this case for example, such
as multi-device synchronization and reminder alerts.

The best thing of all is that, with regard to US television listings, we now
have viable choices.

Most Sincerely,

Mark

Subject: A Heads-Up On The Soon-To-Be-Released New Version of the TV Guide
App for iOS

Hello Fellow Television Fans:

A new version of the TV Guide app should be released within the next couple
of either days or weeks.

While the new version has a different look and feel, it includes several new
features and added functionality that I will let you discover for yourself.
The best part is that it is marvelously VoiceOver accessible. In fact, TV
Guide has gone out of their way to make sure that we, as blind and low
vision users, can enjoy the same functionality as our sighted counterparts.

And for you pucker-butts, I am not violating any NDAs in posting to the
list.

The reason I am posting is to:

1.
Inform you that the new version of the App is VoiceOver ready; including the
setup and settings areas.

2.
Let you know that the new app has a new look and feel that may take a little
getting used to but is well worth the effort.

3.
If you like reviewing programming via the Favorite channels list, don't
worry, it's still there but in a slightly different location but with added
functionality.

4.
Thanks to the programmers, now VoiceOver users can double tap on any channel
number in the general listings grid, to see only the day's listings for that
one particular channel Without having to add the channel to the Favorites
list.

5.
Let you know that the new version of the app will now let you save your
Favorite channels, shows, etc in the Cloud so you can access them on all
your iOS devices and the TV Guide website. That's right. Select your
Favorite channels and/or television shows complete with alerts, and have
them synchronized across all your iOS devices.

6.
Encourage you to, once you've familiarize yourself with the new app, and
assuming that you enjoy it, go to the App store and give the app a good
review so that the people at TV Guide will know that we appreciate their
efforts.

As the saying goes, Stay Tuned.

Hello Less,

You have the correct app, version 2.2.1, which is VoiceOver accessible
but
is not the soon-to-be-released version I wrote about.

The current version works reasonably fine with VoiceOver as well but
things
get much better in the next version which should be available soon.

Hi Mark,

Okay, you've convinced me via your review to download the TV Guide app.
Now, do I have the right one? It was listed as TV Guide Mobile. When I

RE: A Heads-Up On The Soon-To-Be-Released New Version of the TV Guide App for iOS

2012-08-18 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

RE: A Heads-Up On The Soon-To-Be-Released New Version of the TV Guide App for iOS

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be looking for that update. Thanks for
working with the developers to improve accessibility.

Re: A Heads-Up On The Soon-To-Be-Released New Version of the TV Guide App for iOS

2012-08-17 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Mark,

Okay, you've convinced me via your review to download the TV Guide app. Now,
do I have the right one? It was listed as TV Guide Mobile. When I clicked on
that one, the description suggested it was the official TV Guide App, but just
want to make certain I have the right app. Thanks.

Re: A Heads-Up On The Soon-To-Be-Released New Version of the TV Guide App for iOS

2012-08-17 Thread jeremy
If we're talking about the same app, it was sorta like this, before they
made the change that broke it for a while. Talking about the ability to
tap a channel in the main list and see what was showing, I mean. After
they fixed it to where you could use it again, some of the changes were
sorta annoying, but, it did get way better. Glad to hear they are
continuing to improve it. This is truly a wonderful app, which I use all
the time.

Thanks.
Take care.
