I'm in Bassendean ..
4 CHAPMAN STREET, BASSENDEAN.

Near Guildford Rd, but Chapman is a cul-de-sac at Guildford Rd, so you
come in from Guildford Rd via either Fisher St or Shackleton Rd.
I'm in the short cul-de-sac bit near Guildford Rd, 2nd from the corner
- clearly marked on the letterbox.
(You can see my house on Google Earth.)

I'm home a lot of the time - all day/ night tomorrow (Friday) I think;
and Saturday morning till early afternoon - going out about 2.30pm.
Sunday out all day from 7.30am tilll about 5 or 6pm - have 4 cats
entered in a show at High Wycombe.

No particular plans for any day next week from Monday on.
Just let me know what's convenient for you.

non-working printers

2012-04-12 Thread Barb Zahari
Hi

My problem - how to dispose of 2 non-working printers.
Spent ages trying to get them working, gave up & bought a new one.
Just have no space - they need to go!
Offered them on freecycle but no takers.
Is there somewhere that takes then for recycling?
Or do I just put them in the bin? .. or what??

(These are the details if anyone's interested in tinkering or could use
parts.)
(1) EPSON C87 plus.
   Used for about 18 months.
Stopped working when a new colour cartridge was inserted - just
refused to recognise
the new cartridge with a message that that colour was missing.
Hasn't been used for a year so inks will all be dried up I should
think.

(2) CANON Pixma
Was not used for 2 months over the December - February hot
weather.
Print heads possibly clogged with dried ink - has had head
cleaning routine run several
times, appears to be printing but produces blank sheets only.
Has had one new red colour cartridge inserted & comes with a
spare blue/cyan cartridge.

Some of my Apple gear came with me when I moved back to Oz from

just confirm that the adapter handles 240V and 50Hz. What you need is
called a reverse travel adapter for Singapore, that is to say and
adaptor that converts a Singapore style plug to an Australian one.
Note, that even thought the power adapter and the revers travel
adapter are called by the same term, they are different items. The
power adapter actually converts wall socket voltage to computer DC
voltage whereas the reverse travel adapter just is a different shaped
plug.

With time if you need to replace the power adapter, just buy an
Australian one from the Apple store and you can then store the travel
adapter for your next Singaporean gadget.

In your situation, I wouldn't bother getting a wireless modem (which
Apple

does

make).

The AirPort Extreme is probably overkill for you - since the Airport

should do everything you need:

<http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB321X/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes>

Being Apple, it is very easy to set-up and you also have the options
(but

only if you want to) of plugging a USB printer into it (for wireless
printing) or connecting it to your stereo and streaming your iTunes
music

from your computer to your stereo.

Even though my billion ADSL/VOIP router does have wireless capability
it is
old and didn't play well with my Macs if I tried to turn on WPA
security - I
could have persevered (updating modem firmware, etc) but I had an
Airport
Express and found it much easier to turn off the wireless on the
Billion

modem and just set-up a wireless network with the Airport Express.

Just my 2c worth ;o)

Although they

take a little to get used to them, I love them now. They are a sort of
plastic/rubber cover that goes over the keyboard. It protects it from
dirt
and dust (and even the odd water spill), and the new ones have a

feature. And they are washable.
So it means once it's on the keyboard, you never have to worry about
the

old that
look as new as they day they came out of the packet (well pretty

then put

it back on again.

(They also do covers for iPhones and iPods as well as laptops, and
including

the Apple Wireless Keyboard).

You can see the whole range here:-

For the Aluminium Wireless keyboard:-

For MacBook, MacBookPro and MacBook Air

Generally retail for about $45-$55, so not "overly" cheap, but if you
consider you can wash them and replacement cost of a keyboard, they
work out

quite a good cost. (Plus factor in time taken to have to clean the
keyboard!!)

If anyone is interested, or wants more info, feel free to contact me

From memory, the other point was not to use hot water.

I'm my own dishwasher so I didn't try it. Also didn't want to be

with rubbing alcohol - it was all plastic.

My only problem with the Apple keyboard (perhaps Peter or someone

The other thing about this post is that now I have taken a closer

It sounds a bit drastic but one method that works very well (I've
tried it

soap, and
preferably have nothing else in the dishwasher at the time. You
must also
ensure that the keyboard is completely dry before using it (I hung
mine on

I find that with the new aluminium keyboards a simply wipe down
with a damp

cloth is all it takes.

The FileVaultMaster stuff is, as you say, probably down to the school
IT
team changing & locking down certain items to keep the students out of
them
- however you have always used Keychain on the OSX macs - it's just
that you
may not have been aware of it as it is generally operating quietly in
the
background so many people never have the need to fire-up the Keychain
Access

utility.

There are actually lots of little utilities that Apple provides to let
you

tweak/inspect/fix things if you go looking for them - some people enjoy
playing with all this but many people prefer the "if it's not broken -
don't
mess with it" approach - of course, when it IS broken, you have to
mess with

it ;)

normally you don't need to go into.
So yeh,. Something strange is going on there.
Oh, and the folder should be Keychains with the s, so that's strange
also.

I'd be trying to correct it quite a bit, and perhaps if nothing "Easy"

I hope I'm not too late with this, but the quick way to fix the
keychain issue is to navigate to ~/Library/Keychains and delete the
file called "login.keychain". The next time it's needed, Mac OS X
will
stop and ask you to confirm that you want to add your current

(In case you're not sure, and for the benefit of others who may not

Hi Barb,

If you haven't got anything on this iMac yet that you need to keep,
why don't you do and "Erase & Clean Install" of Panther.

You need to locate the Mac  OS X CD.
Insert the OS X CD, restart the iMac while holding down the C key,
which starts up the Mac from the CD and launches the Mac OS X
Installer.

How to Erase My Hard Drive in Panther:

1. Insert the Mac OS X 10.3 Install CD into the Mac and restart the
computer.

2. Hold down the "C" button as the computer chimes and wait for the
Mac to start up from the CD before releasing the button.

3. Click "Installer" and open "Disk Utility."

4. Select your hard drive from the list of drives on the left-hand
side of the screen and click on the "Erase" tab.

5. Select the volume format you want to use from the "Volume Format"
pop-up menu. Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

6. Click on "Options" and choose "Zero All Data," "7-Pass Erase" or
"35-Pass Erase."
Note: "Zero All Data" doesn't take as long as the other options and
will be ok for you to use.

7. Click "OK" and "Erase."

After the iMac restarts and you setup your Account and Password etc.

Go here & Download the Combo OS X 10.3.9 Update & install it.
<http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_Combined_Update_10_3_9>

DON'T forget to "Repair Permissions" after installing the Combo Update.
=
As long as PLC did not turn on Filevault (which required a "Master
Password") and

If you only wish to create a new Administrator's Password in Panther:

1. Insert the Mac OS X 10.3 Install CD into the Mac and restart the
computer.

2. Hold down the "C" button as the computer chimes and wait for the
Mac to start up from the CD before releasing the button.

3. On the first Installer Screen, Choose "Installer > Reset Password.

4. When the "Reset Password" screen appears, click the HD that
contains Mac OS X.

5.  From the first pop-up Menu, choose the Name of your Account.

6. Now make a new password and type it in both boxed.

7. Click Save.

8. Close the Window, click the Installer, and Restart.

AND Remember your Password ;-)

Re: Locked Keychain Problem

2010-03-24 Thread Barb Zahari

Thanks for that Daniel.
Might try a few more "guesses" then before I give up!

And on another note, got a phone call from Macs4U this morning to say
the ethernet port is not repairable, so will have to go fetch the emac
back - hopefully tomorrow, need info on it ...
(would have today but atm I'm physically knackered! Not supposed to
lift heavy stuff.)

Don't know what it's going to cost for that info!
A USB to ethernet cable is $8.00 but they're not sure if it will work.

Can reinstall, have system disk, can't remember how I got Classic on
the emac - does it come automatically with OS10.3?
Classic is vital or I won't be able to use my legit/registered 5.02
version of Photoshop!!

I won't put too much faith in the 7 dots. Most of those "fields" will

for

anyone trying to "guess" what someones password is.
You can imagine if someone had "Cat" as their password, then 3 dots
showing,..someone trying to guess would have a pretty easy guess.
Likewise

if the persons password is 13 characters long,...but they only see 7
dots,..they are going to try and guess a 7 letter password,..and be no
where

near the actual password. ;o)

Probably doesn't help at all, but just thought I'd mention it.
Normally if the account name is admin and they've set the password the
same

then it can either be admin or Admin (Passwords are case sensitive).
But yes, if nothing works, best to reset it off a DVD/CD with an OS on
it.

Hi Peter

Have checked this out and under
~/Library/Keychain (not plural Keychains)
There's only 2 items:
*X509 Certificates
*X509 Anchors
Both of which can't be opened - trying gets "The item is either locked
or damaged or in a folder you don't have permission to change. (Error -
5000)

So NO "Log-in Keychain" file to delete.

Under "Applications -> Keychains"
there's:
*FileVaultMaster,cer
*FileVaultMaster.keychain
*System.keychain
All of which are greyed out.

stop and ask you to confirm that you want to add your current password

Re: Locked Keychain Problem

2010-03-24 Thread Barb Zahari

Hi Neil .. Thanks!

Have taken note of those suggestions & will look at implementing later
(been a hectic couple of days moving emac/imac etc & trying to catch up
with some essential (voluntary) work/reports/minutes/etc!),

As far as I can see there's only one account listed - shows account
name & Admin,
but then in the "Password" box it shows a 7 dot (character) password &
I have no idea what that is!!
(There's no "Password Hint" which I always fill in!! - OAP memory
getting a bit fuzzy!)
I was told at the time that they'd changed both a/c name & password to
the same word.

They were pretty hassled that day at the PLC Easter Fair - crowds round
the mac table - maybe someone just forgot!!

Keychain Access Menu is headed "Keychain Login (Locked)"
Under the "Keychain Access Menu" there are the following:
*About Keychain Access
*Services (Finder, Grab, Mail etc - all of which are greyed out)
*Hide Keychain Access
*Hide Others
*Show All (which leads nowhere)
*Quit Keychain Access

NO Preferences -> NO First Aid -> NO General!

If I hit anything that looks like it might change something, I get
"Please Enter Your Keychain Password".

(Eg ""Password", "Copy Password", "Access Control", "Unlock")

Cheers .. BarbZ

On 24/03/2010, at 8:56 AM, Neil Houghton wrote:

Hi Barb

Lots of good suggestions already - just a couple more points/items to
check:

First-off, the instructions below are as on my Snow Leopard - since
you are
running an older system, things may not be exactly the same - but the
same

principles apply.

In the "Keychain Access" application, under the main "Keychain Access"
menu,

you will find the "preferences' item - open the preferences and:

- Under the "First Aid" tab, which boxes are ticked (for me, all four
boxes are ticked)

- Under the "General" tab, there is a "Reset My Default Keychain"
button
which "Reverts to factory defaults and creates a new empty "login"
keychain.

Your current default keychain will be moved aside, but not deleted."
In essence, this is similar to Peter's suggestion to delete the
keychain and
let OSX create a new one but since the old one is not actually
deleted, you

may be able to later retrieve information from it if you want/need.

Before trying that, however, you may just want to see if there is a
repairable keychain problem:

In the "Keychain Access" application, under the main "Keychain Access"
menu,
there is a command "Keychain First Aid" which gives you the option to
verify
and/or repair the keychain(s). The "Keychain First Aid" window which
opens
up asks for User Name and Password but should open up with the user
name you
are logged-in with filled in and you should not need to enter the
password,
since you are already logged-in (well, that's what I find - assuming
your

preferences are set like mine).

Set to "verify", press "start" and see what it reports - if all is
well the
dialogue should conclude "No problems found Verification completed" if
a

problem is found try "Repair"

If anything is found, let us know the result.

I'm not really clear from your posts whether you have just the one user
account that is the admin account (which you are having the problems
with)
or if there is an admin account that you don't have the password to
and your

user account that doesn't have admin privileges.

They gave me a new username/password (both the same) when I got it,
but

that one doesn't work either!!!

Is this the only account on the computer and, if not, does it have
admin

privileges:

Open system preferences, go to the "Accounts" pane and see what
accounts are
listed - eg for me, at the top it shows under "My Account" the account
"Neil
Houghton" (that I am currently logged in under) with "Admin" listed
below,
then under "Other Accounts" it lists some other user accounts and
"Guest

Account"

What is your set-up - in particular, is there another admin account
rather

than your log-in account?

So, to summarise:

- Do you just have the single user admin account.

- What are your keychain preference settings (in particular, is your
log-in keychain the default and is it set to be kept unlocked while
you are

logged-in)

- Have you tried verifying and, if necessary, repairing your
keychain.

- You can always hit the "Reset My Default Keychain" button and
start from

scratch.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Yep tried that, but it annoyingly keeps coming back - at least it seems
to be letting me use Safari now, but it seems a bit flaky (kept
quitting at random moments) so I've downloaded Camino for OS10.3.9 &
using that.

or b) entering "password" as the
password (Without "")

Didn't try that obvious one! Tried a few "school related" words but no
go!

or c) putting in the same password as the username. Eg
if the username is Admin then use admin or Admin as the password.
Sometimes on clean installs the "easy" option is entered.

They gave me a new username/password (both the same) when I got it, but
that one doesn't work either!!!

Also, with your eMac, I'd just be a bit weary of getting it
"repaired". As
the Ethernet port is normally on the logicboard for most models, they
are

very very expensive and worth well and truly more then the machine is
worth!! I'd try a PRAM zap to reset it then see if it works, and if
that
doesn't it'd make a call to a service centre and a) see what a rough
cost is
and b) how much they charge to even just look at it. (Again, the
service

charge may be worth more then repairing the machine).

Oh well .. it's already in to be looked at .. will see what they say -
can't bear this imac for too long after a couple of years on the emac!

And where would I get another emac for that price? (I don't do ebay.)
He did suggest that if it is a dead ethernet port, I could probably
circumvent it by using a USB-to-ethernet cable instead.

I was able to get into Mail, get rid of their PLC set up & set up my
own Westnet details (copying from the emac ), & it's now happily
downloading my email.

Sorry, would have posted earlier as well, have spent most of the day
since
5pm last night without power (til late afternoon today) and still
working

through yesterday's and last nights work. Thanks storm,... :o)

Hope something there helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Bad luck about the power failure!
My friend's in Southern River & she had no power from yesterday into
today as well - looks like it might have been worse south of the river.
Didn't lose power round here, but it was pretty LOUD (I have a tin
roof!).
Actually it's one of the rare occasions we DIDN'T lose power - usually
happens here every time we have rain after dry weather.

<http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_Combined_Update_10_3_9>

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Deleting old email address

2010-02-18 Thread Barb Zahari

DISCLAIMER:
THIS EMAIL WAS NOT ACTUALLY SENT BY BARB ZAHARI.
I HAVE SENT THIS EMAIL USING BARB'S "FROM" DETAILS TO DEMONSTRATE TO HER
THAT SHE CAN EASILY SEND AN EMAIL "FROM" HER OLD ACCOUNT. (To unsubscribe or
to "confirm" her unsubscription).

I realise that, normally, sending email purporting to be "from" someone else
is unconscionable, which is why I have included this clarification upfront.

I hope no-one finds this demonstration unacceptable.

Hi Barb,

You certainly should be able to do this - you can send emails that appear to
come from any email address -it is something spammers do all the time, which
confuses many people who get accused of sending spam by friends who receive
spam purporting to come from their friends!

While spoofing an email address in this fashion is obviously not to be
condoned, there are often legitimate reasons to change the "from" address in
an email (eg your case).

To prove the point, I just created a new test account in entourage and set
it up with your name and email address.

Since I don't actually have access to your email account (obviously) I just
left all the receiving settings blank but used my ISP's SMTP server as the
sending SMTP server. When I went to save the account, I was warned that
without the relevant info I would only be able to send mail, not receive it
(obviously - I can't actually access your email account).

I have used this test account to send this reply to the group - which as you
see appears to come from you and from your westnet email address.

I am not sure what problems you encountered, so I have included a couple of
queries against your post, below:

If the old account doesn't exist on the new machine, then you can just
create a temporary test account, as I did for this exercise.

However, if the old account doesn't exist, how exactly did you "try to reply
with it" and when you say "it won't go" what exactly happened.

Often problems with sending an email are due to trying to send through the
wrong SMTP server - nowadays (as an anti-spam measure) most ISP's require
you to send through their SMTP servers and block any messages which you try
and send through another SMTP server - for example, if I take my laptop to
Perth and connect to the net through my mother-in-law's Westnet broadband I
can continue to receive all my emails with my Albany settings but if I want
to SEND emails, I have to chande the SMTP setting in the account(s) I want
to send from to the Westnet SMTP (and then back to Internode's SMTP when I
return to Albany).

>From your original posting, you currently have 2 subscriptions to the WAMUG
list - one for your old IT email address and one for your new Westnet email
address. As far as the list goes these are as separate as if you were two
separate people - both called Barb Zahari ;) - so actions on one do not
affect the other and anything you do to/with the old IT email address should
not affect your Westnet email subscription.

For a while when I was having problems with my primary email, I had two
subscriptions to the list - the second subscription was as a digest and
enabled me to check on any posts I missed while my main email was playing up
- when I got it sorted, I just unsubscribed the second email address.

Having said that, I think there are a couple of reasons why you would be
better unsubscribing the old address rather than just asking Westnet to
delete it:

1) From the mailing list point of view, unsubscribing is clean - the
subscription is just cancelled. If you don't unsubscribe, but just delete
the email account, the list will continue to send the posts - which will
then "bounce" back. Most mailing lists then have policies/prcedures in place
to automatically deal with "bouncing" members - typically a few "bounces"
are allowed (even working emails can have problems) before an address is
dee

Re: Deleting old email address

2010-02-18 Thread Barb Zahari

Thanks Ronnie

I did that .. but now I've received the automated message that wants me
to verify unsubscribing from my Westnet email address!!

I'm ignoring it as it says to if you don't want to confirm.

Just checked again & I don't get the option to use the old IT address
with "Unsubscribe" - just my Westnet address & my mac.com address.

Thanks Neil ...

But I don't think I can do this.
The old email account was IE on my old no-longer-functioning imac.

On this emac I'm using Mail only.
The old IT address doesn't exist on this emac & if I try to reply with
it, it won't go.

The fact that the old imac is no longer functioning is why the in-box
built up to 50+mb - I used to clear the mail on the imac once a week,
which cleared the web mail in-box.
Hadn't been doing that via web mail, so this afternoon spent a very
boring amount of time clearing over 2000 messages from web mail.

I actually want to ask Westnet to delete that address, but don't know
what effect that will have with the WAMUG mailing list??

whatever email client you use) so that the "Sending Mail" SMTP server
is the
Westnet SMTP server (ie the same as the SMTP server for your new
working

Westnet email account)

- Then just select one of the WAMUG messages that is "to" your old

and hit reply, the "from" field should be showing the old address

- change the "to" address to and hit
send

- the message should then just be sent through the Westnet SMTP server

Hi Ronni .. should have said I guess .. I'm on 10.3.9.

Won't be going any higher than where I can use Classic because I'd fade

Plus, it's a 2004 emac from PLC with 512 RAM & prob not suited to

Hate to admit it, but I don't have a clue how to find/get into
~/Library .. I set the emac up with OSX/Classic (moving on from OS9)
back in April 2008 & since then everything's just run trouble free -
never had to adjust/fix anything!

Except for a bit of a hiccup with Mail which got sorted.)
Know/knew my way round OS9 intimately, but not OSX!

Been into System Preferences - Date/Time - & that's showing the correct

Vaguely remember doing something 3 years ago to get DS time, no idea
what now. 8-(

Threw me this morning .. had to leave here 7.30am & when I checked emac

Re: Spam bombardment

I think it's *your* email address, not Westnet per se.

I don't actually use my old IT email address but it's still running so
I can pick up the odd stragglers who haven't got my Westnet email

The old IT address started getting massive amounts of spam before I

My Westnet email address so far gets NO spam at all, & I haven't paid

Re: Google Maps "Street View"

2008-08-06 Thread Barb Zahari
The satellite images of Perth, at least in my area, are over 5 years
old - I can tell from my own backyard.
I moved here Jan 30 2003 & a month or so later enclosed half the
backyard for my cats - the satellite photo shows no enclosure, so must
be prior to March 2003.

Street view of my place is definitely taken sometime after the
beginning of 2007, likely summer (either 2007 or 2007/08) from the
early morning shadows.

Also found there is almost no coverage of the whole Bellarine Peninsula
in Victoria, virtually one main road from Geelong to Torquay only.

And if you look at the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, where one of my
sons lives, they have covered some roads but not others;
ie his house is near a T junction - the other road is covered, but not
his. I can see the junction of his road & the first 2 houses, but not
his house which is the 3rd in the street. Looking at the "blue lined"
street map of the area, quite a few streets have been missed.

Also found the satellite photos are not always accurate in pinpointing
an address.
My other son lives in London, & Google Maps marks his place a whole
block away from its actual location - I've stayed there 3 times & know
the various features of the area, so can pick out the actual corner
it's on.

So you can have the surreal situation where the street view is showing

looking at

open space, with no signs of a building to be seen.

It would be interesting to know the photo dates, at any particular

  Number Of CPUs: 1
  CPU Speed:700 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
  Memory: 512 MB

Installed Classic over 10.3.9 & use that to run my old Word 98 &

Can't remember the exact details, but there was a cutoff point around
2003-2004, after which new Macs could run Classic applications only
from Mac OS X, but not boot into Mac OS 9. This was when Apple stages
a public "funeral" for Mac OS 9 on stage. Your 1 Gb eMac would no
doubt be one of the macs manufactured after that date, and as far as
I'm aware there is no work-around. It's a firmware thing.

I believe that is shown on the Boot Rom version

Do an" about this Mac "( in the drop down menu under the apple
)

and then " more info "

and the Boot Rom version is hown under " hardware "

As i remember the last Boot Rom version that will boot OS 9 is
4.2.8

Larger numbers will only boot OSX

Re: Downloading email & removing an e-mail account

2008-07-02 Thread Barb Zahari
Just to wrap up my problem with Mac Mail unable to download email from
Westnet's webmail ...

Spent 110 minutes on the phone on Monday night with Westnet Tech
Support - finally, after trying many many different manoeuvres with
Mail's preferences we got it sorted around 1.00am - still with the same
settings I started out with!
Neither the Tech guy nor I really know what the problem was - we just
stumbled on a fix after deactivating/activating/ creating new accounts/
playing with terminal/ changing info in the original account then
changing it back/ etc etc.

*However* .. I've only been using Mail for a short time & still not
very familiar with it's quirks.
Wish I'd known about the consequences of deleting versus deactivating
an account right then.
I had 3 accounts under mail: Westnet, my old IT account, & mail
forwarded from mac.com.
He thought something might have happened with their email upgrade to
make Mac Mail confused about the Westnet & IT accounts, s ...
one of his suggestions was to delete the IT account - as a consequence
I lost all the mail in my in-box dated from 31 May to 27 June 40+
emails.

(27 to 30 mail was all backed up on the webmail.)
As far as the Tech guy knows there's no way at all of retrieving the
lost mail .. & I can only remember what a few of them were!

Re: Downloading Email

2008-06-29 Thread Barb Zahari

Hi Ian

Emac, OS 10.3.9, Mail 1.3.11, Westnet

I've had the same problem since 2pm on June 27 - Mail won't download
any emails, although I can read them on Westnet's webmail.
The only exception is emails sent to my mac.com address which *are*
automatically forwarded on as usual.

No other problems, had not closed the emac down, had a power failure,
etc, etc - just stopped working.

Have triple checked settings (including the earlier advice to check
that "Password" hasn't changed in "Advanced"), re-entered all
info/password etc, repaired permissions, done restarts & complete close
downs of the emac, closed & restarted Mail - no joy!

Haven't yet rung Westnet Support, but expect they will give the same
spiel about settings.

Funny that it's now 3 people with this problem all with Westnet.

Hope someone has the answer!

Hi Ian

Just as a matter of interest, if you do decide to re-install Panther,
the updates from OS 10.3 to OS 10.3.9 are available as one combined
updater from the Apple site. I just did this a couple of months ago.

I have all the original literature and discs, one of which contains a
folder "Applications" which presumably contains Safari. Instead of
trying to isolate Safari, which I haven't been able to do as yet, and
reinstall it, would it be sensible to attempt a complete reinstall. I
would lose the benefit of the many upgrades to Panther that there have

It looks like I can't use this option anyway.

So, would an OS 9.1 full install disc work on the emac?
Or is there such a thing as an OS 9.2 or 9.2.2 full install disc?
If so, where can I get one or other of them?

OS9 (for Classic) on emac

2008-03-16 Thread Barb Zahari
Hi all

I have an emac I bought from PLC (Power PC G4, 700mz, 512mb SDRAM) on which
I've installed OS 10.3 & upgraded to 10.3.9.
The OSX installation discs I got with it don't appear to have OS9 included.
I want to be able to use Classic for some apps.
Classic requires at least OS 9.1

(The emac is not able to start up in OS9.)

How do I get OS 9.0-> 9.1-> 9.2->9.2.2 onto the emac?

I have an OS9.0 CD & updaters for 9.1 & 9.2.2, but the emac won't accept OS
9.0 to begin with.
Just keeps telling me there's no OS9 system folder.

Have checked Apple, & OS 9.1 is available as a free download but it's 70+mb
& I'm on dial up.
Can I get an OS 9.1 installation disc somewhere?
And will this work? ie installing OS9 (any version) after installing OSX?

emac media tray problem

2008-01-11 Thread Barb Zahari
Hi all

Bought an emac/keyboard/mouse "as is", with no system installed, from the
PLC sale.
It was demonstrated as running OK before I bought it.
Have the discs to install OSX but have a problem as I can't open the CD/DVD
tray.

Keyboard is plugged into one of the emac's USB ports.
The emac turns on & displays the mac face/flashing question mark indicating
no system available, but the media eject button on the keyboard does not
open the media tray as it should.

Power is reaching the keyboard as I have the mouse plugged into a keyboard
USB port & the mouse appears to be "live" (ie red light shining underneath).

Am I missing something simple here?
Or is it likely that either the keyboard or the media tray is
non-functional?

*Very* frustrating as I was all geared up to make the leap from my old
strawberry imac & OS9!

Non-working Epson Stylus Colour

Hi Wamuggers

Can anybody make use of this?
Seems a shame to throw it away.

Epson Colour Stylus 760 with cables & software CD.
Runs on mac OS9 or PC Windows 98 - may be other drivers on-line, haven't
checked.

Printer is currently NOT WORKING - was running fine till 2 days ago, just
stopped with all lights flashing.
Have checked/re-installed software & looked for blockages, seems like a
mechanical failure.

I suspect it *could* be just the black ink cartridge is not seated properly
as I'd just put in a brand new one & the cover of the cartridge space seems
to be not closed properly, but can't get the cartridge holder to move out to
check/fix that.
Has part full colour cartridge as well.

Have replaced the printer, but may be fixable by tech inclined person!

Anybody want this old mac stuff?

2006-06-30 Thread Barb Zahari
Might be of use to someone wanting to restore or set up a simple system or a
collector!

* Mac Classic (plus manual) - not working - got knocked off a shelf & now
tinkles when shaken; also may need new HD.

* Apple Stylewriter 2 (black & white print only) plus manual - worked fine
last time used, very crisp B & w text & images - will need ink, not used for
a longish while).
Can use with iMac but would need a conversion cable.

* Boxed Teleport/Fax Modem - 9600 baud fax transmission direct from mac,
includes cable & manual

* Hypercard installer floppy & Hypercard Basics Manual

* Early mac software manuals:
  MacWrite, MacPaint, MacDraw, ClarisWorks Handbook,
  Filemaker Pro Manual,
Macintosh LC user's Guide plus complete set-up floppies for an LC

Probably still have the software floppies for MacWrite, MacPaint & MacDraw
- will have a look if anyone's interested.

Just running out of storage space here - seems a waste to bin it all!
