Re: Still need help with values of used Macs!

2002-10-17 Thread themenubar
Try looking at microseconds web site www.microseconds.com.au they have a
list of their current trade in prices for older machines you can download
this as a pdf file. Remember that these are trade in prices and not resale
prices you should be able to sell it for a little more than they would buy
it from you. Remember that the entry level iMacs originals Bondi are now
selling for around $200.00 over on the eastern side of the country but in WA
and SA you will find that they will fetch around $300.00 IN WA & SA you will
find that you will get more for your second hand goods as there are less
available for sale. Although recently in SA some group sold around 30 iMac's
(5 flavours slot loading) for $200.00 each plus gst.
Look in the trading post the classifieds and do a little of your own
research.

They are after the greedy people who say yes to these deals so that they can
get access to their bank accounts and rob them blind. They let you know that
they trust you and if they are going to put all this money in your account
than you should trust them than they will take whatever because they have
access to all your information they can find out all about and proceed
emptying all your accounts and running up all you credit cards. Simply put
as you have accepted to do this for them than no banks will agree to help
get your money back and you have to pay all your cards back. It is a very
old scam but there are still some people out there new to computers and how
these scams work.

Re: Photo Transferring

2002-09-30 Thread themenubar
A .jpg file can be read an a PC or a Mac without any form of file conversion
needed at all. How are you transferring the file. If it is on a Mac
formatted floppy, Zip or CD than your PC will not be able to read the disk.
If you can give me further information on how you are transferring the files
than I will be able to better assist you.
eg. If you are taking them from a floppy or a zip disk start with a PC
formatted disk, your Mac should have no problem reading PC formatted disks
than copy your photo's to the disk and put on your PC. If it is from a CD
you will need to burn a cross platform version of the CD so that your PC can
read it.

Please contact me if you need any further information.

Re: .Mac

2002-09-25 Thread themenubar
I am not sure if the process for .Mac is fully understood.
To the best of my knowledge if you want to sign up for the additional
features for your .Mac account and I can tell you know it is well worth it.
The steps are as follows.
Log onto your .Mac account and there should be a button to press that tells
you to sign up for .Mac press this button and follow the prompts. You can
actually go into your account information and change your address for all
those that signed up in America originally. You than fill in the form and
pay by credit card. This is done through the US and has nothing to do with
Australia.
You cannot order .Mac in Australia it has to done through the US and this is
one of the main reasons it is done via credit card. The extra resources and
maintenance that it would take to add an couple of accounts people to send
people who required it a bill would make .Mac more expensive for all the
rest of us.
They do not automatically charge your credit card unless you have already
told them that you are paying by credit card. You do have the choice. Pay by
credit card or don't buy it.

Re: JunkMail

2002-09-24 Thread themenubar
Some of it fascinating you must be on the same lists as me I feel most of
the junk mail is sexist. Not that I am a feminist I got think that the poor
men out there that are subjected to all this.

Yes we can all do with a lower mortgage if we have one but do not want to
pay the transfer fees etc.

Well porn is for everyone but there is no romance or good storylines.
Well that is a myth enlarging ones penis, most women don't want that anyway
just some guy who knows how to use it properly.

Not many women suffer from baldness and don't really care if a man is bald
or going bald anyway.

We all go on the weight merry go around but it is better to be happy with
yourself.

As to be impressed with your web site I would just think that that was some
kind of compliment, take it as one and who cares if it is relevant or not
just believe that someone out there likes you.

And finally we come down to what all men have always wanted to know since
time began, communication guys. Just speak to your women and listen to their
crap even if you are not interested, pretend to be half the time. We are
just venting. We don't want criticism or feedback just be able to have our
say and think that someone is listening. We also want you to do the same,
the difference is we are listening.

I have found some of the OKI printers to be very good and as they are an LED

lights so they also not as dangerous when to use.

Re: Powerbook 170 - No Power

2002-09-02 Thread themenubar
The PowerBook 170 did come with an external Power Supply unfortunately you
can not purchase the power Adapter or the battery as new anymore so you are
best to take the battery to get it repacked some places can do this although
it can cost a fair bit up to $150.00

How have you been charging the battery if the PowerBook has no power input.
The only thing to do is to work out how much it will cost you to get it
running again and to see if it is worth spending the money on it. The most
you would get second hand for a PowerBook 170 now days is around $150.00 -
$200.00.
Try looking on eBay for second hand batteries for it. (www.ebay.com.au) look
in the computer section under Apple.
If you need anymore help please email me and I will help as much as I can.

Re: Strange email-attachment - virus

Not all .scr files are a virus they can also be one of the following four

.Fax
Program: FAXVIEW

.Screen Saver
Program: MS WINDOWS

.Screen Snapshot (various programs)

.Script

The reason a lot of them can be a virus is that they can be a written script
that someone has written as a virus.

It always come down to the old adage if you do not know the source don't
open the file or just to be safe, as some people do not know that they are
sending you a virus, always check using your virus checker first.

Re: External Monitor problem

2002-08-15 Thread themenubar
Are you using What Mac OS are you using, if you are using pre Mac OS X than
you might want to go to your monitors control panel and reset the settings
to default or play with them a little until you get what you want. I had
this model G3 PowerBook and had to do a little playing around to get the DVD
to play from the computer to the play DVD's onto a big screen TV or
projector. Your video mirroring has most likely been turned off.

In pre Mac OS X what I did was,
1) Turn mirroring off
2) Connect a S-video cable from the computer to the TV/projector
3) Make sure if you have them to connect your Audio cables for sound out to
the TV or speakers if you have them.
4) You will find that the TV/Projector screen and the computer screen are
one big screen you can move the mouse cursor from the TV/Projector screen to
the PowerBook screen.
5) Play with this a little so you know where the mouse cursor moves to and
how to get to different parts of both screens.
6) Place the DVD into the DVD drive on the PowerBook
7) When the start up DVD player screen comes up drag it so it is in the
middle of your TV/Projector screen and than press play.
8) DVD should now be playing on your TV/projector screen.

I hope this helps you and hope it works for you like it did for me.

Kind regards,

Re: 10.2 with tibook

2002-08-13 Thread themenubar
Anyone who has purchased a computer or Mac OS X 10.1 on or after the 17th
August is intituled to a $40.00 upgrade from Apple Computer the form to fill
out can be downloaded from Apples Web page and you fill this out and fax it
back to Apple along with your invoice as proof of purchase. If proof of
purchase is not sent than that will be followed up by a consultant who will
ask you to fax proof of purchase before they can process your order.

Re: Copy of Mac OS 9.x

2002-07-30 Thread themenubar
Hello Roger,

You can purchase Mac 9.1 full install CD from Apple directly for $162.00
this would be the cheapest way for you to go. You could also purchase 10.1
from an Apple reseller and get 9.1 in the box with 10.1.
I am curios to find out why you did not get this information when you
contacted your Apple reseller as they all know this or the AppleStore on
133622 as they all know of the 9.1 full install CD and sell quiet a few
copies every day. The product code is M8081Z/A. This product is available
only through the AppleStore on 133622 it unfortunately is not available
through Apple resellers (AppleCentres or any retail stores).
System Upgrades can only be purchased through the AppleStore 133622 than
dial 9 for reception and ask to be put through extension #8364 if there is
no answer (they could be on the phone) it will divert to voice mail, leave a
message and the person will call you back.

Re: Macs for Timor

I can't help as I am interstate at the moment, but could I suggest that few
people get together where the machines are for a mini meeting / social
function / morning or afternoon tea / drinks and every one do them on site
together that way it will get done quicker and nobody will need to have to
pick up and than bring back the machines.

Re: Printing photos ?

2002-07-17 Thread themenubar
The best way to get good quality printout for photo images is to have the
best quality photo to start with and the photos on you CD will not be the
best quality you can get. It is a good way to get the photos on your
computer but not the best printable quality. You would be better to scan
them in yourself with a scanner and the best one being a slide scanner and
scan the negatives rather than the photos.

Below is the order in which to get the best quality images into you computer
and of course the higher the dpi rate of the scanner the better the scanned
image will be and the better it will print. Do not forget that the type of
printer you have will have some factor in the print quality as well, but the
first and best step is to get the best image to print first.

1. scan the negatives with a slide scanner
2. scan the photos with a scanner
3. get photos developed to a CD for use with a computer.

Re: Used Mac Asking Price Suggestion?

2002-06-26 Thread themenubar
Just remember people do not pay for your sentimental value and that it is
most likely not worth the amount you would like to get for it. Being
realistic it is worth as much as someone will pay and and the best way to
sell something like this is most likely on ebay.

Re: USB driver for Sony TRV17E Digital Handycam

2002-06-25 Thread themenubar
As far as I know there are no Mac USB drivers for this device the only way
to import is through S-video and and a converter for RCA sound audio jacks
for your microphone port the RCA audio to standard input output cables
should be available from your local electronics store an you will also be
able to get a longer S-video cable. Let me know what PowerBook you are using
and the video editing package and I will be able to tell you the best way to
doe it.

Re: UPS and Mac combo

2002-06-20 Thread themenubar
UPS is short for "uninterrupted power supply" the main thing they are used
for is for protecting your IT investment by in the event of a power failure
allow you extra time to save your data and turn off you equipment safely
there are many different types that do varying different things. Some basic
UPS like the Sola brand entry level ones can also have built surge
protection. The larger units can come with software for greater management.
They are usually large and a lot heavy as they contain large batteries. Most
of them a square boxes, some of them like the entry level Sola ones look
like a larger version of a powerboard.

Re: UPS and Mac combo

2002-06-19 Thread themenubar
Hello Gary,

The Sola brand is fairly good. The entry level ones and economically priced
they require no software and are made for home and small business users they
will give you an extra 5 to 20 min to shut down your computer safely
depending which model you are after.
I got mine from the AppleCentre at Joondalup and I am very happy with it.
