Unfortunately no Ronni, rebuilding the sent mailbox did not work.

I’ve learned to live with out them.

Cheers,

correctly into the New Folders?

If so:
Try deleting the Desktop Preference file.
1. Go to your user ~/library
In Finder, Hold down the Alt (Option) & click Go menu - select Library
(The user library folder is listed below the current user's home directory.)

2. Open Library - then scroll to Preferences and find com.apple.finder.plist

finder.)

3. Restart your MBP

Folders

2016-07-06 Thread Michael Hawkins
I attempted to tidy up the desktop on my MacBook Pro by creating new Folders,
naming them, and dragging and dropping into the new Folders the various items
I’d saved on the Desktop.

For some reason (a) various items that I had not dragged into a Folder are now
in the Folder, (b) each new Folder contains a folder which has the same name as
the Folder on the desktop and (c) each of the folders within a Folder contains
the same items as are in the Folder I created.

What has gone wrong, and how can I correct it?

Change iTunes preselected folders Add to Library and Add Artwork

2016-02-22 Thread Alan Smith
When I add video files to the iTunes library (and to edit tags) the iTunes app
preselects both the video and artwork folders. However the preselected folders
are wrong in each case so I need to do extra navigation to finish the editing.

How can I force iTunes to display the actual folders I use?

I have an iMac with OS X 10.11.3 and iTunes ver 12.3.2.

I export EyeTV recordings in .m4v format for later viewing in AppleTV. I also
take a .jpg snapshot of a video frame for use as artwork in iTunes. Both files
are written to a Desktop “video” folder which is excluded from Time Machine
backups. I then copy the video file to its permanent home on an external USB3
hard drive. The files in the Desktop video folder are deleted after they are
linked to iTunes and checked.

To “Add to Library” iTunes defaults to Desktop: I would like it to display the
External HDD contents.

To “Add Artwork” iTunes defaults to ~/Pictures: I would like it to display the
Desktop video folder contents.

Add Folders

2014-08-15 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi, I have a simple question. I am trying to add some additional folders in my
account of Mail on my iOS device. I see the add mailbox option but trying to
add doesn't do anything for me.

I logged into my Webmail and created a folder there no problem and thought that
maybe it would replicate to the iOS devices - but it doesn't. Maybe I have a
setting wrong or maybe it can't be done though unlikely.

Is this an iOS setting or a setting at my ISP webmail application perhaps?

Any assist would be appreciated.

Re: Add Folders

2014-08-15 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Pete

Short answer is…folders will only show up if you are using IMAP account on all
your devices and computers. If you have POP3 selected, they won't work.
If you are using IMAP then they show up once you go back to the Mailbox window,
down to the account (e.g. Westnet) then you should see the folders. They can
take a little to show up if you've just changed it.

If you're not using IMAP, Ronni did do a reply about setting it up to IMAP a
little while back, so it should show up in wamug archives if you have a search.
(Sorry not near computer so can't access it at moment).

Hope that helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Ok, thanks Daniel. I recall the POPIMAP conversion Ronni provided details on
but I hesitated at the time to do it as the time available was poor for me at
the time and then it slipped off my radar.

Issue understood regarding folder adding etc, thanks for confirming.

the owner of the computer you should have access to everything, unless your are

The My Book Studio 2TB also doesn't allow me to duplicate files inside it, I

required folders and files needed to the iMac HD (at the moment I am working
off the external, the files and folders would then be the archive emergency
backup then Time Tunnel as well). This all started with Mountain Lion as all
 worked with Lion.
(The external was new and it was a plug and play)

Did you format the drive when it was new of just go ahead and use it? If you
just used it as is out of the box then it might not have been formatted
correctly for your Mac. Get Info on the external drive. Under General, the
Format: label should say Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Again, as the owner of the computer, you should not be having permissions
problems on an external drive you have created yourself.

Format: label should say Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Again, as the owner of the computer, you should not be having permissions
problems on an external drive you have created yourself.

Re: Folders on external locked

2013-03-11 Thread Rick Armstrong
Thanks Peter,
I may give it a cautious go, as the Gear Icon is greyed out and not accessable.
The My Book Studio 2TB also doesn't allow me to duplicate files inside it, I
intended to tidied up the files and folders inside it first then copy the
required folders and files needed to the iMac HD (at the moment I am working
off the external, the files and folders would then be the archive emergency
backup then Time Tunnel as well). This all started with Mountain Lion as all
worked with Lion.
(The external was new and it was a plug and play)
Thanks, Rick.

Could not open folders on desktop

2012-06-09 Thread Bill Parker
Yesterday I placed everything on my chaotic desktop into one folder to get some
space to do something.

I did some work and later I tried to get access to the clear-up folder but
with no success. My HD icon resides on the desktop as does my download target
folder. None would open. I could get to the files in needed in the
clear-up folders by doing a search and opening that way, or by looking at
Word's recent files.

I shut the machine down. All was well and still is. But what was happening?

Hi Bill,

I would think you had caused some corruption in Finder.
When you are unable to open any files or folders in Finder, often moving the
com.apple.finder.plist file found in (your
user)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop then, Relaunch
your Finder. --Force Quit--Finder--Relaunch fixes the problem.

But, keeping your desktop clean is the best solution.

A) On Margaret's iMac:
1. Create a Folder on her Desktop
2. Name it Financial Statements (or what ever you wish)
3. Then follow my previous instructions 1 to 3 below to share that folder.

To add a folder or mounted drive, follow these steps:

1. In the Sharing preference pane, under the Shared Folders list, click the +
button.

2. Select the folder or drive that you want to share. For folders, navigate to
the item (Desktop Financial Statements), and make sure it’s selected.

No problem, all other folders were greyed out

3. Click Add.

There’s no additional “apply” button; the folder or drive is now available for
sharing, and it appears in the Shared Folders list.

B) Then on your MBP:

1. Open you Home (little house ian)

2. In the Sidebar - Under 'Shared'
You will see the shared folder Financial Statements

3. Click on the Financial Statements and you will be quickly connected to
that folder.
You can then drag the Financial Statements Folder to your Desktop
You will be asked to enter the Name Password of the Administrator (Margaret)
of the iMac.

4. After you have finished copying the Financial Statements Folder to your
Desktop

5. Click 'Disconnect' to disconnect from Margaret's iMac

I drag and dropped the Statements folder to the desktop but it was only an
alias, so I had to maintain the sharing until I had finished using the
individual statements. Otherwise it couldn't be found.

Thanks again. Kind regards.

Ian

 Hi Ian,

You have the Firewall on in System Preferences on both computers?
I have heard of AFP not working correctly in Lion for File Sharing.

 Try this first:
 A)
 1. Leave your firewall activated.
 2. Turn OFF AFP file sharing in the system preferences
 3. Restart your Machine
 4. Turn ON AFP file sharing
 5. You should now get a message if you want to accept AFP connections...
 6. Click YES

Seems like this somehow resets the AFP permissions in the firewall settings

If that does not fix you problem; try this:
 B)
 1. Go to Preferences
 2. Click on Sharing
 3. Click on File Sharing on the left-hand side
 4. Click the Options button
 5. Uncheck “Share files and folders using AFP”
 6. Check “Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)”
 7. Click the Done button.

At this point, you should be able to connect from the other machine.
If you need to go in the other direction, perform these same steps on the
 other machine.

Let's know how you get on please.

flash drives, and even disk images—as well as individual folders.

To add a folder or mounted drive, follow these steps:

 1. In the Sharing preference pane, under the Shared Folders list, click the +
 button.

 2. Select the folder or drive that you want to share. For folders, navigate
to the item, and make sure it’s selected. For volumes, choose the volume
under the Devices list in the left sidebar.

 3. Click Add.

There’s no additional “apply” button; the folder or drive is now available
for sharing, and it appears in the Shared Folders list.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

Hi Daniel,

Has something changed in Lion? This is not quite how it works on my SL
computers - what you describe is only applicable to my Drop Box folder
within my public folder:

If I put an item in the main Public folder in my user folder then another
connected computer user can access that file and copy it to their own
computer. However other users cannot drop things into my main Public
folder.

Within my main Public folder is another folder called Drop Box (not to
be confused with the Dropbox folder associated with the Dropbox cloudsynch
app!). Other connected computer users can drop things into my Drop Box but
they cannot see or otherwise access what is in there. The system throws up a
warning to this effect when you go to drop an item in the Drop Box

All this only applies, of course, if you have file sharing turned on.

Cheers

Re: Sharing folders

2012-05-01 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Ian,

Thanks Daniel, I had missed that Ian mentioned Public folder, I had assumed
he was having problem with File Sharing.

Ian; In case you are a bit unsure of how to share files in OS X over your local
network.
It’s really sharing “Shared Folders and Volumes.”

Add Shared Folders for File Sharing:

Once you’ve turned on a file sharing service, it’s time to set which folders on
your Mac can be accessed by which users.
Apple labels Mac OS X’s list of shared items Shared Folders, but you can add
the top level of anything mounted on the Desktop—hard drives, CDs and DVDs,
flash drives, and even disk images—as well as individual folders.

To add a folder or mounted drive, follow these steps:

1. In the Sharing preference pane, under the Shared Folders list, click the +
button.

2. Select the folder or drive that you want to share. For folders, navigate to
the item, and make sure it’s selected. For volumes, choose the volume under the
Devices list in the left sidebar.

3. Click Add.

There’s no additional “apply” button; the folder or drive is now available for
sharing, and it appears in the Shared Folders list.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: How can I stop folders using the All My Files view?

2012-04-11 Thread Glenn Nicholas
Thanks Ronni,

Looks like this is not a common issue, I'll provide more details about what
is happening.

Firstly, if you are like me and don’t find “All My Files” that useful, you
can do what I have done and 'hide it away’.
- already done, long ago

At first glance that’s all you need to do, but you’ll soon notice that
every new Finder window now opens with All My Files” displayed by default.
- I don't have All My Files as the default, changed long ago

If you don’t find your answer to your Finder View problem Glenn, please
 post back.

In summary:
- I turned off the relevant All My Files preferences after upgrading to Lion
- in most situations, Finder windows behave normally, using List view etc
and responding to View Options
- but ... when a Finder window displays either the Desktop or Downloads
directory, then and only then does the Finder window switch to using the
All My Files style of presentation. That is, if you set the Arrange setting
to any date based option, it breaks by Today, Yesterday etc, and changes
treatment of column headings, stopping any clicking on the date column to
change ascending/descending etc. It is not possible to view either of these
directories using the normal List view
- If from that Finder window I change the display to any directory other
than Desktop or Downloads, Finder drops the All My Files style of display
behaves normally with List view etc.

This is a bit strange, here is a link to some screenshots showing examples.

For some reason, whenever I view my Desktop and also my Downloads

using Finder, the folder view always changes to use the 'All My Files'
style of view. Using Finder to view any other directory uses the normal
Finder view. The behaviour seems to be linked to the directory - so for
example if I open a Finder window and view Documents, I get the normal
Finder view, but then if I navigate to the Desktop, the view changes to
 the
  'All My Files' style.

The 'All My Files' view isn't the default view for all new folders. But
 it
has stuck to these two directories.

I've been through Finder Preferences and View Options but can't find any

How can I stop the Desktop and Downloads folder from using the 'All My

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the link to the screen shots, now I can see what is happening your
end.

Just as an experiment I changed my Desktop Downloads to:
View As List and'Arrange By’ None.

This then allows clicking on the date column to change ascending/descending etc.

Hi again Glenn,

On your Downloads Desktop; If you set View As List - ‘Arrange By’ None,
Then in View View Options you can select ‘Sort By’ Date Added.

This then also allows the clicking on the Date Column to change
ascending/descending etc

How can I stop folders using the All My Files view?

2012-04-10 Thread Glenn Nicholas
Hi Wamug,

Using 10.7.3, I can access the (new to Lion) All My Files facility. Nice
option to for Apple to offer, however I personally don't find it that

For some reason, whenever I view my Desktop and also my Downloads directory

Re: How can I stop folders using the All My Files view?

2012-04-10 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Glenn,

I’m not sure that I understand your problem correctly, so please tell if I’m
completely on the ‘wrong track’ ;-)

Firstly, if you are like me and don’t find “All My Files” that useful, you can
do what I have done and 'hide it away’.
The first thing is remove it from the Sidebar. Simply Right-Click /
Control-Click on it and choose 'Remove from Sidebar’.
If you ever want it back, simply go to the Sidebar tab in the Finder
Preferences and re-select it.

At first glance that’s all you need to do, but you’ll soon notice that every
new Finder window now opens with All My Files” displayed by default. To change
this back to the Snow Leopard behaviour of showing your home folder, simply go
to the Finder Preferences (located in the Finder menu) and change the 'New
Finder windows show': drop-down menu.

“All My Files” provides an easy way to see all of your most recently used
documents, regardless of where they are actually saved. They are organised
‘Arrange By’ Kind (e.g. images, PDFs, music) and each section has a fancy
“coverflow” way of scrolling. You can get this type of display for any folder
you want — simply use icon view, and then choose 'Arrange by' Kind

For those that are curious, All My Files is just a simple saved search, a
feature that was actually introduced with Snow Leopard.

Lion's Finder gives you four ways to view your files: icon view, list view,
column view and Cover Flow view.
But it also gives you some new ways to arrange files within those views: In
addition to 'Arrange By’, Lion adds 'Sort By' and 'Clean Up By'. Unfortunately,
those arrangements aren't so straightforward.

The three sorting tools do have three distinct functions: 'Arrange By’ lets you
organize files into groups.
The new 'Sort By' option does much of what 'Arrange By' did in the past. And
'Clean Up By' is a kind of impermanent 'Sort By’.
I have all my Finder Windows in Column View, but I find having my Downloads
‘Arrange By’ - ‘Date Added’ very useful.
But the three options aren’t always available in all Finder views.
Sometimes you can combine them; sometimes you can’t.

After the above ‘Intro’ I decided to search my Lion Bookmarks as I’m sure
Macworld would also have this article online, and yes they do and this is the
link:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1162008/arrange_sort_files_lion_finder.html

If you don’t find your answer to your Finder View problem Glenn, please post
back.

Cheers,
Ronni

How can I make the system folders invisible yet accessible in Lion?
I don't want to see them in Finder but sometimes I have to go in there for

Hi Tom,
The User Library is hidden, but can be shown by Finder Go.
Why would you need to hide the System Library?
The system library is already protected.
You can't delete or move anything from System Library without your
username/password.

Entourage folders

2010-07-27 Thread Lloyd White

Hi everyone.

I use Entourage and it works well for me - usually.
I accidentally trashed the folder for my wamug messages. I had set up a rule
to move wamug messages to that file.
I created a new folder and in the Rule I chose that folder for the wamug
messages. Exactly as before.
Now messages are not moved and I get a message saying the folder cannot be
found.
I have:
Trashed the Rule and created another one.
Trashed the folder and created a new one.
Rebuilt the Database.

Still the same message. My Rule looks identical to the original one and to
others that are working well.

Is there anything else I should do?

Hello Maria,

Toast Titanium has a Compare function in the Utilities menu. It can compare
Folders, Files and volumes.

I'm not sure if this is what you are wanting to do.

the webpage shows a list with all the names (is searchable with the

it's in a similar fashion as with pix sounds for a webpage

Re: Creative solution required - transfer of folders contents to database

2009-01-04 Thread Glenn Nicholas
Steven, one approach would be to use shell scripts.

Using shell scripts (access via Terminal), you can put a list of file
names into a file using ls and redirecting output
$ ls *  listoffiles.txt

So that gets you a text file with all your directory names in it.

It is fairly easy to create a small shell script with a loop that will
go through each directory and get a list of all file names ...
Then you could do your database loading from within that loop,
assuming you can access your database via the shell.

This article shows you an efficient way of handling files within a
loop: http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/loops1.html#LISTGLOB
Shell scripts let you work with other commands such as cut, which
could deal with structured file names ..
This guide will cover all you need to know: http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/

Maybe one way of tackling this task.

Glenn.

Re: Creative solution required - transfer of folders contents to database

2009-01-04 Thread James Devenish
Hi Steven,

This can be done. But it really depends on the database! If the
database simply stores the person's identity and a link to the folder,
then the task is relatively easy, since you only need to assemble the
personal names and folders locations into a text spreasheet and import
it into the database. But if you need to upload each file into the
database, then obviously the process will be specific to the type of
database you have. Also, if your database already comes with import
capabilities, then there may be no need to make up your own script,
beyond convering the folder names into surname, first name and middle
name. If you now how to use the command line and regular
expressions, then the conversion of names into separate fields can be
done rapidly:

ls -1 | sed -E
's/^(([^a-z]+)[[:space:]]+([^[:space:]]+)[[:space:]]*(.*))/\1,\2,\3,\4/'
 names.csv
(Produces a CSV file -- open in Excel and verify the results manually)

Entourage + Smart Folders

2007-08-11 Thread Maureen
Is this what you¹re after?

In Entourage
Click on Inbox
Go to File- New Folder
Create the new folder and name it eg: Mac
Then go to Tools-Rules-New and select from a pile of choices.

You can also choose to have sent mail stored in the inbox or into a sent
folder with the same name.

I have folders setup eg: family, friends, Mac, work. It is easy to see what
and how many is where and easy to find when in a rush, or you only want to
read particular emails or not (eg family) or when ³oldtimers² disease is
happening:-)
I have done this and when my mail arrives it automatically goes into the
designated folder I have set and a number shows to indicate how many mails
are in there waiting to be read.

You can also go to Tool Mailing List Manager and set up rules to apply
from there.

In Tools you can also set up Junk-eMail rules.

Re: Synchronise 2 folders

2007-03-26 Thread Eugene
SilverKeeper which is free from the LaCie website. Works over an
intranet or across volumes. See their description below. Very easy to
set up.

  Regards,
  Eugene

Introduction
SilverKeeper will Backup, Compare, Synchronize or Restore folders on
Apple Power Macintosh computers. It can copy or compare folders of
any writable device that is visible as a volume mounted on the
Macintosh Desktop. This includes hard drives, ZIP drives, DVD-RAM
drives; almost any internal or external Macintosh disk or flash device.

Note: This release is SilverKeeper v1.1.4, which is a minor update to
correct issues with Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4.

The software consists of an application program which will copy,
compare, synchronize or restore files and directories from a source
directory to a destination directory. It will ease backups from one
hard disk to another. While optimized for hard drives, SilverKeeper
is also compatible with network drives, and removable drives such as
Zip and DVD-RAM discs. Compatible drives may be connected to the IDE,
SCSI, USB, or FireWire busses of Macintosh computers. The only
requirement is that the drives must have at least one mounted,
writable volume. It is not directly compatible with tape drives, or
CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW drives. To use these latter devices requires
Apple's Disc Burning compatibility.

SilverKeeper is freeware provided by LaCie. LaCie is a worldwide
manufacturer of storage products for PC and Macintosh computers. For
more information about LaCie products please visit our website at
http://www.lacie.com, or visit your favorite computer reseller.
SilverKeeper is compatible with LaCie storage products, and also
similar products from other manufacturers. While LaCie has made every
effort to assure compatibility with all disk based IDE, SCSI, USB,
and FireWire storage products, LaCie can not guarantee compatibility
with the many third party storage products available in the market.
Thorough testing has been done with all Apple Macintosh and LaCie
products with compatible storage devices.

Unlike other backup and archiving programs, SilverKeeper uses the
Macintosh Finder to perform copy operations, so the backups are
always readable files that can be used as-is on another computer
without resorting to a special restore application. No special
application software is necessary to read Backup files.

As freeware, this means that you may use the SilverKeeper product
with any of your Macintosh computers and storage devices. The only
restriction is that you may not alter the program, develop
derivatives, or redistribute the product in any way without the
express written permission of LaCie, Ltd. Please refer to the
included license agreement.

How do smart folders work?

2007-03-19 Thread Neil Houghton
Once a week I update a number of spreadsheets which I have filed in various
folders.

After reading about smart folders I thought that this could save me some
time navigating through the various folders.

So.

For the documents in question (well 3 of them as a trial), I opened their
info pane and put weekly into the comment field.

As a check, a spotlight search on weekly now shows these as the first 3
document hits - so far, so good.

Then

I create a smart folder with keywords weekly as the criterion - but it
doesn't show any hits.

After browsing the Other criteria, I see that Comment can be chosen so I
make comment contains weekly the criterion - still no joy - with or
without adding kind any or kind document as additional criteria.

As I start typing weekly in the contains box files do initially show -
with just we typed, for example, I see:
- iTunes tracks from an album that includeswe in the iTunes comments field
- HTML text files that include we in the HTML metadata
- an excel workbook that includes we in the comments field in the
properties pane for the workbook.

But then as soon as I continue by wee they have all gone.

DOH!!

As I re-read the above, I now see the pattern - the Info box which used to
have a Comments field now has a Spotlight Comments field and searching
by comment is not actually looking in this field but in other file
metadata that meet its peculiar definition of comment

Further scrolling down the Other criteria does , indeeed reveal a
Spotlight Comments criteria and setting this up does, indeed find my
files.

SO... Problem Solved - However, I have to say Mac Help was spectacularly
useless in helping to find how the smart folder criteria actually work... So
I thought I'd still fire this off in the hope it might save some other poor
soul from the same frustration.

Cheers

I'd forgotten that one of my friends is a manager of an Office Works

if they have any stock at any other stores that he can transfer but
again like the UWA Uni Co-Op he said that the low demand, high price

Hi Jon,

I have not idea what might be causing your problem, but it (both
Finder and Photoshop) sounds specifically like a drag and drop
handling issue. In addition to trying any general tactics (e.g.,
repairing permissions -- just a thought), perhaps you can do a web
search for issues with drag and drop (incl. Apple Support). Also note
whether you have installed or upgraded any system utilities lately.

repairing permissions -- just a thought), perhaps you can do a web
search for issues with drag and drop (incl. Apple Support). Also note
whether you have installed or upgraded any system utilities lately.

Not without third party software. A popular workaround is to use a
secure Disk Image instead.

Comparing Folders

2005-04-04 Thread Antony N. Lord

I have an (uncompressed) backup of a folder tree on another machine.

By mistake I began working on numerous files on the BACKUP copy.

Is there an app to do a simple comparison of the 2 folder trees to
find the modified items?

Cheers, Antony.

Get a text listing of both using something like ls and then diff them
in bbedit or with diff.

Or you could find a copy of Quinn's System Folder Diff, which
probably would still run in Classic.

Alternatively I have a python script which could probably be modded
to do something similar, although it's designed to remove duplicate
directories. :)

   diff -r {folder1} {folder2}

Will give you a whole chapter and verse on the differences. You can also
just get it to report if the files differ with:

   diff -rq {folder1} {folder2}

And finally if your version of diff doesn't do this, install a real one :-)

Toast has a utility called Compare..., Toast v6 does drag and drop.
I haven't used it though, but always remembered it in case I did
something like you did;)

I'm not sure if this applies but you might also try a search of the
directory(s) based on the date modified info of the files.

Thanks to those who responded to both queries. I managed to score a

I eventually used my head and looked in the trash to find the locked

With dual systems on the machine, sometimes I need to restart in OS9
to be able to find something which is 'in use' to be able to delete
it from the OSX trash. A bit painful!

Try using the Finder to 'Get Info' on it and then unchecking the
'locked' checkbox if it's checked.

Folders that won't die Spam from Hell

2002-04-08 Thread Ted Holmes
Greetings in Mugland

Any clues on how to remove folders that won't be trashed. The folders came
from a Windows formatted Zip 100 disk. They were copied onto a G4, OS 9.04.
When I try to trash the offending folders they refuse to die. Option - trash
doesn't work and they are not locked. If I try to cut them and paste back
onto the original windows formatted Zip disk they just copy and refuse to
budge from the G4 hard drive.
Perplexed ..TIA

Also is anyone else on the list being buried in Spam lately?. Of particular
annoyance is truckloads of Casino and gambling email that comes daily
without ever subscribing to any of it. It is so bad that I am considering
changing by email address which would be a drag. Interested to hear if
anyone else is suffering this invasion.

Have fun

IIRC, you can't use copy and paste to move files under OS 9.04's Finder.

Try dragging an empty folder with the same name into the same
location as the offending folders, then try deleting that.

You might also want to run Disk First Aid.

There have been recent reports that YahooGroups has changed
everyone's marketing preferences. However I can't actually confirm
that that's the case, because I haven't been able to find the pages
the instructions talk about on my account. Although a few people
report they have been able to (I think it might be a difference

Anyway, it seems to be getting worse everywhere, not just through
yahoogroups. There are a few services around that let you create
expiring e-mail accounts that last for 30 days before they vanish, so
that you can use them for program registrations etc. without worrying
about them being used for spam. See for example

One issue I had was that I ended up with two '..' directories in a
folder and there is no way to delete the second one. Rebooting into
Classic shows the directory (with name ..) and you can then trash it
easily. Perhaps that is your problem as well?

Yes, the Australian accounts do not have the same preferences and
managed to escape this gross vandalism by Yahoo. If you have a
non-Australian account then this preference may well be causing some
problems.

recent folders solved. + others

2001-10-18 Thread gary dorn

Many thanks to those who responded to my recent folders question.
I had Default folder lying around on my old 4GBhard disk before I
upgraded to my new 27 GB one, so as suggested I installed that.

You beauty, now have recent folders.

I also had Wapp pro 2.5 installed on the old hard disk, upgraded to
3.3 as per the web page, but found it crashed the Finder all the
time, so gone back to version 2.5 and seems pretty stable now. I am
using OS 8.6.
I've found this Wapp pro my main tool of moving around to various
files and folders. Thanks to those who suggested it some time ago.
