Mayberry Trivia Time!
Hey folks! This week's Two Chairs No Waiting - Andy Griffith Show Podcast is all about Mayberry Trivia and what better way to recharge from the summer heat than to test our skill at Mayberry trivia. Not just any trivia either because these questions will give everyone a shot at getting the answer right because they are multiple choice. So sit back, recharge your batteries, and see how many questions you can get right as we go. I hope the questions bring to mind the fun had when watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and they let you experience the joy all over again. Mayberry Man movie and The Mayberry Effect
For anyone that would like to watch the Mayberry Man movie and see what the fuss is about. Watch it FREE on Amazon Prime, Tubi OR YouTube...here's the link to it on YouTube:. https://youtu.be/a_AwfI9TPY8 Both the Mayberry Man movie and The Mayberry Effect documentary are FREE to watch on Tubi. Tubi is an app you can get on your phone or on your TV for free. Just search for the movie titles and you can watch a double feature. --Allan PS - I received NO PAYMENT for either of these movies. I did them for free and make nothing from either of them (unless you buy a DVD of either from WeaversDepartmentStore.com). Just wanted to let you know this isn't an attempt to make money from anyone. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Mayberry honors?
Whew...I wasn't aware Ben Weaver was a member here at the WBMUTBB Chapter. As a REMINDER, we have a rule here at the WBMUTBB Digest that negative comments are not allowed. Folks should always try to keep their comments positive and "act like somebody." You know, "Spread a little sunshine every day, Spread a little sunshine every day, Help someone along.. life's... way... Spread a little sunshine every day!" That's what Mayberry and the spirit of Mayberry is all about. I, of course, am biased toward both The Mayberry Effect documentary and the Mayberry Man movie but I believe there can NEVER be TOO MUCH Mayberry in the world. So, judge for yourself if these projects are worthy of viewing. Andy Griffith's daughter, Dixie, is in The Mayberry Effect and is an Executive Producer of Mayberry Man. Don Knotts daughter, Karen, appears in both The Mayberry Effect and Mayberry Man. Both stated that their fathers would love these efforts to keep Mayberry in the minds and hearts of the viewers. I'm proud to be a part of each of these projects and, as I said, I have a bias but mainly...I LOVE Mayberry and each of them made me happy to be a part of the Mayberry family. Sincerely, --Allan Newsome ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Hey everybody, It's been a while since I mentioned it so I thought I'd say something again to see if you might want to be a part of the WBMUTBB Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/wbmutbb/ We're up to almost 150 members over there where WBMTUBB members can share photos and other things that just don't work here on the e-mail digest. Christmas Card from The Newsome's 2022
Christmas Card from The Newsome's 2022 https://youtu.be/AImMay2NH-E Another year has passed and even more exciting things have fallen our way. In 2021, The Mayberry Effect documentary & Mayberry Man movie premiered in the early fall. Allan believed this would be the end of his career on "film." Little did we know that Mayberry Man: The Series would be filming in 2022. What a blessing to be able to add even more to the Mayberry lore through the series (expected to come out late 2023). At some point in the production of the series, the realization hit Allan that he would actually be sharing the screen with both Karen Knotts & Ronnie Schell. It has been an honor to be on screen with fellow cast members but the realization of being there with Mayberry royalty is even more exciting as a fan of The Andy Griffith Show. Jan and I were blessed to join fans on the Mayberry Cruise 2022, after two years of covid related cancelling. During the cruise, we were able to spend time with Clint & Kat Howard who are both as wonderful as you would expect. Mayberry events picked back up and fans were eager to leave the pandemic behind them and have some clean Mayberry fun. This year also marked the 10th Annual Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC. The Meet-up was started because of Allan going to Mt. Airy to interview Betty "Thelma Lou" Lynn for his podcast and saying, "If anyone's in town, we can meet-up" never expecting anyone to show. About thirty people showed up that first time and then folks started asking, "When are we doing it next year?" Ten years later, we're still going strong with about 200 attending during the Meet-up weekend and the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast reaching the 14 year mark and 712+ episodes. WeaversDepartmentStore.com is now Jan's only job having resigned her 14 year long employment as an office manager at a veterinarian. Jan is staying fairly busy keeping things stocked and shipping orders. Thank you for that! In 2023, Jan and Allan will be picking up the duties of writing/editing the Weaver's Newsletter from long time editor Jim Clark. We'll do our best to continue to give the fans of The Andy Griffith Show the high quality content they've come to expect. Please subscribe to the FREE newsletter. Rest assured that your contact information will not be shared. All-in-all, God has certainly blessed us. Thank you for your friendship and support. Merry Christmas! New WBMUTBB Facebook Group
Hey WBMUTBB! I've been a stranger here in town for a long timereading all the comments but never joining in the conversationso some of you may not even know me. I'm Allan Newsome and here's a bit of a history. HISTORY REPORT Back in April of 1990, a fellow named Bob Bravetti was on the Prodigy computer network. He started what was called a "topic" on the Prodigy bulletin board system with a subject header of "The Andy Griffith Show". After a few replies and a little bit of chatter, the topic died off. In the early fall of 1990, Allan Newsome signed up for the Prodigy network and started a "topic" on the same bulletin board system Bob had originally started his topic. The "topic" was called "Andy Griffith Show." After that first message Allan was joined (over time) by more than 57 other fans of The Andy Griffith Show (TAGS), including Bob who was the very first person to reply to Allan's note, who enjoyed visiting online and talking about Mayberry. On the first anniversary of the posting of the "Andy Griffith Show" topic by Allan, those original 57 or so Mayberry fans decided to make the group of TAGS fans a "real" chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC). People sent in their suggestions for a chapter name and "Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board?" (WBMUTBB) was born. A note requesting the chapter name was sent to TAGSRWC HQ on November 4, 1991 and official verification of our chapter's approval arrived by mail on November 29, 1991 in the form of our Chapter Charter from TAGSRWC Headquarters in Nashville 1991-1999 For another two and a half years things continued to grow. Friends were made online that sprouted into "real world" friendships. Members shared photos of one another by postal mail (we couldn't really do it online back then) which allowed faces to be associated with those that until then had only been names on a computer monitor. Times were wonderful. Allan left Prodigy in early 1993 and for about 6 months he was out of touch with all the Prodigy/online Mayberry friends. Then he saw in THE BULLET, The official newsletter of TAGSRWC at that time, a note from Kevin Johnson and Jack Fellenzer requesting that folks email them to talk about TAGS. Allan emailed them right away because he missed the fun and fellowship he had with fellow TAGS fans and the WBMUTBB Chapter folks. That note in THE BULLET resulted in the WBMUTBB Chapter being expanded from just being on Prodigy to being on the whole Internet. By August 1, 1994 (the oldest "New Member Update" still accessible) the new Internet version of WBMUTBB had 25 members. The "New Member Update" was emailed out manually on a regular basis to all members of WBMUTBB so everyone could stay in touch. Back in those days, there was no good way to create an automated email list so manually emailing every member was the only way to stay in contact. Kevin Johnson kept up with the member list for about 6 months then, beginning with the "New Member Update" of December 21, 1994, the responsibility was given over to Allan. We had 50 members on that update. By the end of 1998 we had 608 members which grew to 1,356 by December 31, 1999. 10TH ANNIVERSARY - NOVEMBER 2001 - PRESENT Chapter membership grew to a high of over 1,740 members in November 2001 (our 10th Anniversary year). Since 2001 we have fallen in number, but not in spirit. We have continued to have issues with people not getting the Digest in their Inbox and I've tried hard to fix that problem. It's never ending and I don't know if I can do any better than I currently do. To EXPAND our online chapter, I have created a Facebook group called, "WBMUTBB Chapter." It's a private group on Facebook and I'd like to invite you there if you'd like to come. I'm not closing down the email Digest but I wanted to provide a different way for you to stay in touch with one another and share more Mayberry fun. WBMUTBB Chapter Photo at Mayberry Days
Hey Folks Mayberry Days is FAST approaching and hopefully at least some of you will be attending. It has been a custom for about 25 years that all the members of WBMUTBB Chapter, The Taylors Front Porch, and other portions of the TAGSRWC online communities gather for a few minutes to meet one another in person and to have a group photo. When: ~5:15 Friday September 27, 2019 Where: Blackmon Amphitheatre (Just after the World Championship of TAGS Trivia) We'll gather to the right of the stage on the hill for 5 to 10 minutes to go around and introduce ourselves so we'll be able to put a face with the e-mail address/nickname that folks use here online. Back in the beginning, this was the only way we could "see" one another because the internet was so young. There was no Facebook, Instagram, or any other way to share photos and put faces to names. Once, we even all sent photos of ourselves by MAIL to a single person who compiled the photos, made color copies, and then mailed (using the post office) the photo copies to all who had mailed in photo. Whewtimes have changed. I look forward to seeing all of you who are able to be there and getting to put faces to names. So, come to the Trivia Championship and stick around for a few minutes to meet one another. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Mayberry Man Movie Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Gregory Schell (310) 614-0272 or Stark Howell (661) 877-2819 CHILDREN OF “THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW” CAST DEVELOPING NEW FEATURE-LENGTH COMEDY ABOUT MODERN-DAY MAYBERRY LOS ANGELES, CA (August 16, 2019)—The Andy Griffith Show debuted on television nearly 60 years ago and has aired in syndication virtually every day since, amassing a devoted fanbase seeking high-quality, wholesome entertainment that harkens back to a simpler time. Now, the children of the actors who appeared in the original series are developing a feature-length comedy that will capture the spirit of Mayberry and serve it up to the passionate Mayberry fan community. It’s called Mayberry Man. In Mayberry Man, an arrogant movie star is busted for speeding in a small Southern town and is sentenced by a local judge to attend Mayberry Days, a week-long festival celebrating The Andy Griffith Show. Immersed in this modern-day Mayberry, he discovers the true meaning of friendship and family. Writer-Director Stark Howell, an independent filmmaker and Hollywood storyboard artist, is the son of Hoke Howell, a character actor known for portraying hillbilly Dud Wash on the original series. The younger Howell was inspired to make the movie after attending his first Mayberry Days festival in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Andy Griffith’s hometown. “I’ve always been a fan of the show, but I was shocked to discover the spirit of Mayberry still exists today within the tight-knit Mayberry fan community,” says Howell. “It’s the perfect setting to tell a modern-day, family-friendly story that expresses the virtues of the fictitious town of Mayberry that we all fell in love with so many years ago.” What makes this project unique is that it will showcase original cast members of The Andy Griffith Show alongside real-life fans including tribute artists who dress up as characters from the show. Much of the film takes place in Mount Airy during the annual Mayberry Days festival and is scheduled to be shot there in September 2020. Original Andy Griffith Show cast members slated for the film include Clint Howard (Ron Howard’s younger brother who played PB&J-eating Leon), Ronnie Schell (two episodes, also Duke Slater in Gomer Pyle, USMC), and Keith Thibodeaux (13 episodes, also played Little Ricky on I Love Lucy). “Hollywood shouldn’t make this movie,” proclaims Howard in support of the independent filmmaking approach. Howard, who has appeared in every type of production from low-budget to Hollywood blockbuster (Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Austin Powers), says “This movie needs to be made by Mayberry citizens in Mayberry,” referring to Mount Airy. Additional family members involved in the project are producers Cort Howell (Hoke’s son) and Gregory Schell (Ronnie’s son). Also set to appear in the film is George Lindsey, Jr., son of George Lindsey who played Goober on the series. For more information, visit www.mayberryman.com or contact Gregory Schell at (310) 614-0272 or gregorysch...@gmail.com. I see three e-mails from you guys after the Digest went out on 5 Sep 2019 but I don't see them everywhere. They're in the archive: https://www.mail-archive.com/wbmutbb@wbmutbb.com/ You can visit there and see most of the e-mails we've missed over the last several weeks. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Please don't quote the entire WBMUTBB Digest when responding
Many of you have your email client set to automatically quote the ENTIRE Digest (or any other e-mail) to which you were "Replying" and as a result every issue of the Digest contains copies of previous Digests. Please turn off the automatic quoting feature of your email tool so this does not occur in the future. Or, make sure you delete the "quoted" portion of the message. Please quoting more than is necessary to help folks understand the comment your are making. Thanks folks! --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Hey Mayberry
I'm writing this to try and check and see if I can get the WBMUTBB Digest to actually go out to everyone. It seems a Chinese company was using the wbmutbb.com domain to sent out spam and we got blacklisted because of that. The hosting company has cleared that problem and "hopefully" you'll get this e-mail, and future e-mails, from the Digest. Fingers crossed! --Allan Newsome TwoChairsNoWaiting.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Happy Thanksgiving!
Since it is Thanksgiving, I started to think about things I’m thankful for. I guess it goes without saying that I’m thankful for The Andy Griffith Show and it’s been four years since I’ve said that in an episode of the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast. It was all the way back in TCNW #261 when I talked about what I thankful for so far as Mayberry goes. I figure it’s time to say it again. I’m thankful that Andy created the town of Mayberry for us to visit anytime I’d like but there are many things that Mayberry has given me and I want to make sure everyone knows about at least some of what Mayberry has given me in my life. I recorded it all on TCNW #453 called "Thank You for Mayberry." You're invited to go give it a listen, or a watch, at the link below. http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2017/11/tcnw-453-thank-you-for-mayberry/ Have a great Thanksgiving! --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Thank you to Mayberry
Hey folks, I want to say how thankful I am to all of you. We have around 1300 folks that get this WBMUTBB Digest everyday and many have been subscribe for YEARS. My goal, as the admin, has always been to help Mayberry fans connect and feel a part a the bigger Mayberry community. Over the years, we have seen services and website come to help fans connect (Facebook, iMayberryCommunity, etc) but I know there is still a place for the Digest in the Mayberry world. I do encourage everyone to find those other avenues to connect with fellow fans as an addition to the fellowship we share on the Digest. You can actually see PHOTOS of one another and communicate in a more instant way than you can here on the Digest which only helps to grow those friendships more quickly. I don't write too often here, nor anywhere else actually, but I *do* read every WBMUTBB Digest. This group has meant so much to so many for so long and for that I am thankful. To keep the conversation going, send in a "daily quote" or a bit of trivia. Tell us about how your day is made just a bit better by sitting down to an episode of Andy when you get home from the stressful day. We're all fans and we ALL have similar tells to be told. It's that connection that makes us part of the greater Mayberry community. I'll be gone on the Cruise to Mayberry 12 until about 30 October but know that in spirit I'll be here. I can't check e-mail on the cruise but I can post things on Facebook. Follow me is you have a mind to: https://facebook.com/anewsome https://www.facebook.com/TwoChairs/ or join the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast Group on Facebook so you can talk to one another: https://www.facebook.com/groups/twochairs Mainly, keep that Mayberry spirit alive and enjoy all that The Andy Griffith Show has to offer. Mayberry Days Report 2017
Hey Mayberry, Wow! What a great weekend of fun at Mayberry Days 2017. Every year I think things can't be more fun than the previous year but each year I'm proved wrong. I think part of that is because each year I get to see Mayberry friends during the Mayberry Days event and rekindle those relationships. Sure, I get to see many of them on Facebook and here on the Digest throughout the year but Mayberry Days gives the chance to have that personal, face-to-face, connection. I think friends, family, and love are what Mayberry is all about. Andy often said the show was based on love and I believe that is what continues to fuel the Mayberry spirit and keep Mayberry Days (and other events) alive. SO MUCH happened through the weekend and I'd love to hear your personal stories. I attempted to give a report during this weeks Two Chairs No Waiting podcast episode #445. I feel like I failed to find the words to share the fun and friendship shared by those who attended but I tried my best. Hopefully you'll have a chance to check it out. The video version has images from the even so maybe you'd like the video version more than the audio. http://www.TwoChairsNoWaiting.com Thanks for all that YOU do in keeping Mayberry alive. It's all of us, the fans, that keep the spirit moving forward. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Hey Mayberry! Mayberry Days is FAST approaching and I hope as many of you as can will attend. We always have a great time visiting with fellow Mayberry folk and attending the many events throughout the weekend. You can get a schedule of the events by visiting http://MayberryDays.com and clicking the schedule link. == THE WBMUTBB Annual Photo/meet-up == Members of the WBMUTBB chapter will meet to the east side of the Blackmon Amphitheatre stage (looking at the stage, it would be to the left) following the "World Championship of TAGS Trivia." The trivia begins at 4:30pm so we'll be able to meet somewhere around 5:15 or 5:30pm. It's just a short meeting so everyone can introduce themselves to one another and put a face with the e-mail address. We'll also get a group photo. The main thing is to visit with one another and have a GREAT time. For those that can't attend, "we shall meet...but we shall miss you." And, all the WBMUTBB members who do make it to Mayberry DaysPLEASE post a trip report for all those who aren't able. Share the Mayberry love with all the rest of us. http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2017/08/tcnw-441-how-floyd-got-his-start/ I’m often asked how I got started as a “Floyd the barber” tribute. In this episode of Two Chairs No Waiting you’ll hear the story of how it all began. From The Mayberry Deputy, David Browning, asking me to come to talk to folks using a Floyd voice to the very first time I ever tried to do Floyd in public, you’ll get the whole story. *Bonus:* This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Barbara Eden. http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2017/07/tcnw-433-neal-brower-interviews-harvey-bullock-2002-part-2/ This is our second episode with Neal Brower interviewing writer Harvey Bullock at Mayberry Days in 2002. Harvey Bullock (June 4, 1921 – April 23, 2006) wrote 31 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, 21 episodes of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. and co-wrote the TV movie Return to Mayberry with Everett Greenbaum. So much of what we, as fans, know of the town of Mayberry was created by the mind of this amazing man. The quality of the audio isn’t perfect but this content is something you will not find elsewhere. If you watch the video verison of the show, you can see that Harvey didn’t seem to want to hold the mic up to his face so he’s a little hard to hear. From time to time there are sound artifacts that I’ve cleaned up as best I could so they wouldn’t be distracting. In this episode Harvey discusses writers meetings, Elvis, writing dialog for Opie, his writing partner Ray Allen, Mr. McBeevee, scripts and tidbits of Mayberry history. You will not want to miss any of this series. TCNW 423: Return to Mayberry Update
Hey folks, This is an episode of the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast I don't think you'll want to miss. --Allan https://youtu.be/myRRKmIfLd8 In the last episode of the podcast we were reminded about the "Return to Mayberry" television movie by Randy Turner's This Week in Mayberry History report so I thought it was fate when I ran across a forgotten Mayberry historical gem. I was looking through the files on my computer trying to find a Mayberry related image and came across a folder named Everett. In that folder was a file named "ending." Not a descriptive name but it made me want to open it to see what was in there. Turns out that it was a letter from The Andy Griffith Show writer Harvey Bullock from 1999 addressing a question about the "Return to Mayberry" and the possible alternate ending that was written. This is BIG and I'm just sorry it's been filed away in a digital folder for all these years but at least we get to hear the answer now. Bonus: This week's installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Elinor Donahue. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Mayberry Meet-up 2016 in Mt. Airy, NC 8-9 July 2016 (Schedule)
Hey Mayberry folks! I'm putting together the "schedule" of things to do during the Meet-up weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those suggested. Join in if it fits your schedule. Friends...all the below are options/suggestions for things to do in Mt. Airy. There's nothing "BIG" planned other than on Saturday the 9th at 2pm we'll have the chance to attend "Professor Brower's Lecture Series" at The Andy Griffith Museum. Professor Neal Brower will be covering The Andy Griffith Show episode "Andy's Rich Girlfriend." For any that don't know, Neal Brower is the author of Mayberry 101 and taught "The Andy Griffith Show: An In-depth Study" at Community Colleges throughout North Carolina for many years. There's no charge for the class if you've paid the $6 fee for touring the museum. For more info, visit the website at http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336) 786-1604. The main things I want to do is get together over at the Mayberry Motor Inn gazebo on Friday and Saturday evenings (I've already checked in with Alma about doing this again this year) for some good visiting timeon Saturday we'll order SubWay platters (everyone can donate to the cause) .and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together. IMPORTANT: I've been trying to find a way to communicate better while at the meet-up so I've created a "Remind" class for the Mayberry Meet-up. Remind is normally used for teachers to communicate with their classes but it will work great for this. If you can get TEXT messages on your phone, this will allow me to text all of you at one time. No personal information will be collected and you will ONLY get text messages from me related to the Mayberry Meetup. To receive messages via text about the Mayberry Meetup 2016, Send a text message to this number: 81010 with the following as the message: @maymu (include the "@" symbol) Jan and I are looking forward to seeing you all in Mayberry! --Allan Newsome fl...@imayberry.com == Friday Schedule == When you wake - 4:00 pm -- Visit downtown Mt. Airy. Pick and choose -- Snappy Lunch (breakfast, lunch, or both - closes at 1:15 so eat early) -- Drop by Floyd's City Barber Shop to see Bill Hiatt (Russel's son) and pay respects -- Visit shops on Main Street (be sure to visit Mayberry on Main) -- Ice Cream at Barney's -- Mayberry Squad Car Tours starting at Wally's (30 minute ride) -- Visit Main Oak Emporium (Mayberry Jail & Taylor's front porch photo locations) -- Visit Pilot Mountain either the town or the park...or both. 4:15 - 7:30 pm -- Eat Dinner at "The Depot" in Dobson, NC (Or head out on your own to eat) -- Gather at Mayberry Motor Inn (about 4pm leaving ~4:15pm) for trip to "The Depot" in Dobson, NC (about a 15-20 minute trip south on 601 out of Mt. Ariy). -- Bring your camera because it's a sight to behold. There are great spots for photo taking so we're going a little early to allow time. Here's a link to the web site - http://www.codycreek.net -- I figured we'd head down there a little early (get a table before 5pm) because they tend to get busy and to allow more "visiting" time back at the Mayberry Motor Inn after eating ~7:30 - 11:00 pm (or later) -- Gather at the Mayberry Motor Inn in the gazebo area (you don't have to be staying there to come over and visit). -- Bring sodas, tea, punch and some snacks if you have 'em. -- BRING lawn chairs if you have 'em. (There are some chairs at the gazebo but to be safe, bring your own.) -- Some Mayberry Trivia! Come ready to play but only 10 can play per round. We'll be trying out a new trivia format that may be used at Mayberry Days. -- Watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together on a screen under the stars. -- Visit with friends. -- Maybe record some stuff for the podcast episode together. == Saturday Schedule == When you wake -12:30 pm -- Visit downtown Mt. TCNW 381: Mayberry's Alive and Well
TCNW 381: Mayberry's Alive and Well https://youtu.be/V5kA5Ylgmjw Two Chairs No Waiting - Andy Griffith Show Podcast can be found at http://www.TwoChairsNoWaiting.com Over the years we have talked about what makes The Andy Griffith Show special and about how can we get others to watch these old black & white episodes. What makes The Andy Griffith Show special to us and what might make it special even to those who were born *years* after TAGS went off the air in its original run? Is it Barney, Floyd, Otis, Goober, Gomer, Aunt Bee, Opie, or one of many wonderful characters that appeared in Mayberry that make it so special? Was it Andy Taylor? Was it the town of Mayberry itself? Was it, perhaps, all the above? I think it may be that we all had a little bit of "Mayberry" in our lives when we were growing up. We may have known an "Aunt Bee" or an "Ernest T. Bass" at some point in our life. Maybe you've worked with "Goober," "Gomer," or "Floyd." Is it because Mayberry reminds us a what "normal" might be? You tell me what it is that keeps Mayberry alive and well in our hearts and minds. - == Links == # Mayberry Meet-up 2016 in Mt. The story is called “Andy Griffith’s hometown abounds with touches of Mayberry.” It gives a fun look into the town of Mt. Airy, NC and some insight into Andy Griffith’s life. It’s also a good lead in to the next Mayberry Meet-up to be held 8-9 July 2016 in Mt. Airy! I hope you’ll make plans to be with us and enjoy so great Mayberry related fun. The Rules, WBMUTBB Style
I feel like with the number of new members we've gotten lately that it's time to restate "The Rules" for everybody. You old-timers might want to read through this just to refresh your memories and I think it's good for all of us to try and remember these tried and true rules. Allan From: anews...@aol.com Hey Everybody, Boy, things have really been growing here in out little corner of Mayberry!! Because of that I think it's time to remind everyone what WBMUTBB is all about: We all know what Mayberry is about but do we realize why it is that we all visit there everyday? I know that the characters are great but more than that, they're friends. We "know" these people and it's just a joy to visit them every chance we get to watch them as they work their way through getting locked in a cell because the door "clangs shut" or any of the other wonderful situations they face. Things always work out in a wonderful way leaving a smile on our faces. Mayberry is an escape from the day-to-day trials we all face. A short trip to a place where every body cares about one another and where we can forget, for a while, the fact that "real life" isn't as much like that as we'd like. I started WBMUTBB back in 1990, along with several other good folks, and since then I've tried to make it as much like a "corner of Mayberry" as possible. I wanted this place to be somewhere folks could go and forget about the outside world and relax by reading about Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, and the rest of our Mayberry family. To try and make that happen I've required everyone who wanted to join to tell us a little about themselves so we could get to know them just a little bit. After all, in Mayberry everyone knew everybody else and how can we have a community without having at least some idea about our neighbors? I've also had a couple of rules here and I try to enforce them. Of course Rule #1 is...you guessed it...Obey all rules. Rule #2 is this: Talk about the things you like about Mayberry..not things you don't like. I know some folks forget this second rule sometimes and they don't really understand WHY I think Rule #2 is important so let me just give you an example. Let's say I were to say, "Boy, I really hate Barney. I mean, look how stupid he is and poor Andy has to put up with him."If I said that (and meant it) what are the first things that happen to you? First you'd feel like, "Man, that guys a jerk!" Then you'd get aggravated at this guy talking about your Favorite character (and friend), Barney Fife. Even if Barney's not your very favorite character, you'd likely be upset about this guy talking about your neighbor. I've never heard anyone say anything like that about Barn but I have about other characters and folks forget that just because they don't like a particular character doesn't mean that character isn't someone elses favorite. You see, if I talk about your favorite character saying negative things about 'em it takes your fun away. I think that's enough about Rule #2 and I hope you all understand the rule. It's not to take away from your fun but to encourage you all to tell us about what's fun to you and share your good feelings with others. We have something special here. It's something you don't find often on the internet. No "flames", no "fighting", no "foul language." We have a place that children and adults can come and enjoy themselves. Mayberry is a wonderful place and I'm just glad to be a part of this little corner of it. Your Friend and neighbor, Allan Newsome "Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board?" Mayberry Meets Matlock
Gary and Dan were talking about Matlock and Mayberry. I did a podcast episode about two years ago about some of connections between the two. Mayberry fan, Brian Saul, was kind enough to help me get some clips from Matlock that fans of The Andy Griffith Show are sure to love. First up, did you know that Ben Matlock once knew a fellow that mispronounced kleptomaniacs by saying "kleptominerac?" That's right! On the Matlock episode "The Good Boy" that's exactly what we hear. Next, I'm sure you remember when Barney was showing Andy all he knew about Judo in TAGS episode "Barney's Uniform." Well, Don Knotts' character Les Calhoun demonstrated his karate skills to Ben Matlock in the episode "The Fighter." Oh...and there's so much more. Sit back and enjoy this trip as Mayberry meets Matlock. https://youtu.be/_wPXC9PmFe4 --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Neal Brower Interviews Bruce Bilson 2011 (Part 2)
Hey Folks, We started this series last week and I'm proud to continue this four part series with Neal Brower interviewing Bruce Bilson, assistant director of "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960-63. Mr. Bilson has knowledge about TAGS and how it was made that I'm betting you have never heard. Mr. Bilson was there at the creation of the filming of opening credits and for those first several years developing the "feel" of Mayberry. I recommend watching the video version of this podcast because the clips shown as part of what Mr. Bilson tells us adds a lot to the experience. This episode we hear about the laugh track, Andy & Don's chemistry, Ron Howard & Andy's relationship, Bob Sweeney (director), renewal of the series, General Foods, Andy's memorial bronze moccasin, and directing extras. Here's the link to the video version: https://youtu.be/5nLG1F28WjE and here's the link to the shownotes & audio version: http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2016/01/two-chairs-no-waiting-361-neal-brower-interviews-bruce-bilson-2011-part-2/ Part 3 comes out this evening at 8pm ET and you can find all of Neal's interviews here: Neal Brower on Two Chairs - http://imayberry.com/podcasts/tag/neal-brower/ --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Re: Hawthorne Mayberry Village
Hawthorn made 2 different Mayberry Christmas Village sets. The first one was in the mid to late1990's and it was made out of ceramic Mayberry buildings and accessories (including painted pewter figurines). Neat video of the villages by Ken Anderson - http://youtu.be/7d5vDudE5no The 1990's set included (I think I have most things but may have missed something): Mayberry Courthouse Floyd's Barbershop Wally's Filling Station The Taylor Home Community Church The BlueBird Diner Mayberry Hotel Mayberry Post Office Mayberry School Mrs. Mendlebright's Boarding House Figurines Andy and Barney" Aunt Bee and Opie Squad Car and Pumps The other set was not made of ceramic I think it was called the Andy Griffith Mayberry Christmas Village. Each building lights up and is covered in snow and Christmas decorations! Off the top of my headthis is what came with the most recent set: The Courthouse Floyd's Barbershop & TV Repair combined into 1 building All Souls Church The Taylor Home The BlueBird Diner Weaver's Department Store The Mayberry Grand Theatre Wally's Service Station FIGURINES (These come with the buildings) Andy Barney Opie Aunt Bee Gomer ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Interview by Professor Brower with Bruce Bilson
Hey WBMUTBB! I don't do this too often but this is the beginning of another series of interviews on the podcast that I really think you'll enjoy! If you’ve missed them, I would like to encourage you to go back and give them a listen or watch the videos. This episode of Two Chairs begins a series of interviews by Neal with Bruce Bilson, assistant director of “The Andy Griffith Show” from 1960-63. Mr. Bilson has knowledge about TAGS and how it was made that I’m betting you have never heard. Mr. Bilson was there at the creation of the filming of opening credits and for those first several years developing the “feel” of Mayberry. It’s not too often that I recommend watching the video version of this podcast but because of the clips shown in this episode as part of what Mr. Bilson tell us, the video adds a lot to the experience. SPECIAL NOTE OF THANKS: Neil & Pat Coleman from the “Remembering Mayberry” chapter of TAGSRWC for providing the recording of Professor Brower’s Class from Mayberry Days 2011. Happy New Year (eve) to WBMUTBB!
Hey Folks, We've had a fun year in 2015! We had The Andy Griffith Show air on PRIME TIME television for the first time since 1969 and it was BIG! You folks are the best! We've had our community shrink a bit over the last year or two but we still have over 1200 folks getting a copy of the WBMUTBB Digest each day. That's a little Mayberry folks each one of us in our inbox around lunch time everyday and I for one still look forward to it arriving, even after 20+ years. I want to invite you to drop by over at iMayberry Community for even more online Mayberry fun. There are fans there visiting each day and talking about Mayberry so if you need more fun in your life, that's a good place to start. http://iMayberryCommunity.com Speaking of The Andy Griffith Show Christmas Special, Two Chairs No Waiting (my podcast) hosted a "Mayberry in COLOR Special Episode" starting about 15 minutes after the TAGS special. Folks joined us to talk about what it was like watching the colorized episodes of The Andy Griffith Show airing at 8PM (ET) on Christmas Day 2015. It was BIG! Since this was a special episode of Two Chairs No Waiting, I'm posted the "entire" live version on YouTube for folks just in case they want to see it all. http://youtu.be/i3EPYPHuWDc I hope you are all still enjoying the Digest and I would love to hear your thoughts about what might make things more fun for us. You can email me directly (fl...@imayberry.com) or comment here on the Digest. WBMUTBB Problems....We're working on them
Hey Folks, As you saw in WBMUTBB Digest Vol 16 Issue 273 (last issue), Brent Seguine sent in a note about the JIM NABORS HOUR being on cable which he sent on the 28th of Oct(2 days before you got the note). That wasn't Brent's fault. The software that's running the WBMUTBB Digest is having some problems and it is being worked on by those who know how but it is causing a few issues that I don't have control over. Please forgive me for any messages you may have sent that haven't been making it throughthings still aren't fixed but they seem *better* than they were earlier this week. The boys down at the lab will continue to work on the problem until we can completely clear things up. --Floyd ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Briscoe's Omens of the Day
Briscoe's Omens of the Day If you sweep after the sun goes down, you will never be rich. It's bad luck to watch a friend leaving if you continue watching until the person is out of sight. If a black cat crosses your path, it's bad luck, unless the cat crosses from right to left. Briscoe's Omen of the Day
Briscoe's Omen of the Day ~If you knock your chair over while getting up from the table, it’s a sign you lied while sitting there. ~A bird flying into your house for no apparent reason, is a sign of good luck and fortune for the owner- not so much for the bird! It may also be a sign of news from a distance. ~Snakes are good luck. One crawling up your doorsteps portends that someone from another country will enter your home. A snake in the garden brings good fortune. ~Wild animal tracks in the snow, completely encircling your house are another sign of good luck. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Briscoe's Omens of the Day
~If an apple bursts in the oven while baking, good news is on the way for the cook. ~Eggs that crack while boiling are a sign that visitors are expected. ~When rice forms a ring around the pot while cooking, the cook will become rich. ~Knocking over the sugar bowl is another sign of money (as sugar used to be expensive) Spilling pepper signifies a coming fight, while spilling salt is a well known sign of trouble. Throw a pinch of salt or pepper over the left shoulder to avoid the hex. ~Accidentally mixing up the salt and sugar in a recipe is a sweet sign, it predicts good news. ~Forgetting to add spice to a recipe while cooking signifies trouble ahead, and you must remedy this by adding the spices as soon as possible before you eat. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Quote of the Day Eleanora: Oh, I can feel it. You're going to be another Leonard Blush. Barney: Oh no, that's too much to ask. Eleanora: Why not? He just walked in here off the street one day. Two years later he sang the Star Spangled Banner at the opening of the County Insecticide Convention. The rest is history. Barney: And he still has that radio program, doesn't he? Eleanora: Third Tuesday every month. Station YLRB, Mt. Pilot. Barney: Big Time. Barney: Does he still wear that black mask when he sings on the radio? Eleanora: Oh no, no. He just wore that for a year when he had that skin condition. Barney: Probably emotional - he went to the top so fast. Eleanora: Very meteoric. I know you’ll enjoy this report about this weekend of Mayberry fun. http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2015/07/two-chairs-no-waiting-338-mayberry-meet-up-2015/ == Links == # Two Chairs No Waiting 246: Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Sent from my Verizon Smartphone Orville, Rest assured that *all* the cast and crew of The Andy Griffith Show have been asked about the identity of Mr. Schwamp. While they all remember the man, they do not know his true name. Every avenue to try and determine Mr. Schwamp's real name that can be thought of by the folks at TAGSRWC HQ has been explored and yet no answer has been found. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Mayberry Meet-up 2015 in Mt. Airy, NC 17-19 July 2015 (Schedule)
Mayberry Meet-up 2015 in Mt. Airy, NC 17-19 July 2015 (Schedule) if you don't know what this is about, visit the following link for details: https://www.facebook.com/notes/two-chairs-no-waiting-mayberry-podcast/mayberry-meet-up-in-mt-airy-nc-17-19-july-2015/10153691088033696 Hey Mayberry folks! I'm putting together the "schedule" of things we'll be doing during the Meet-up weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those suggest. I just wanted to let folks know where Jan & I will be and invite you all to join us if it fits your schedule. Friends...all the below are options/suggestions for things to do in Mt. Airy. The main events, to me, are getting Betty Lynn's autograph on Friday and the evening gatherings in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn to visit & get to know one another. To receive messages via text about the Mayberry Meetup 2015, Send a text message to this number: 81010 with the following as the message: @maymu (include the "@" symbol) Jan and I are looking forward to seeing you all in Mayberry! --Allan Newsome fl...@imayberry.com == Friday Schedule == When you wake - 12:00 Noon -- Visit downtown Mt. Airy. Pick and choose -- Snappy Lunch (breakfast, lunch, or both - closes at 1:15 so eat early) -- Drop by Floyd's City Barber Shop -- Visit shops on Main Street (be sure to visit Mayberry on Main) -- Ice Cream at Barney's -- Mayberry Squad Car Tours starting at Wally's (30 minute ride) -- Visit Main Oak Emporium (Mayberry Jail & Taylor's front porch photo locations) -- Visit Pilot Mountain either the town or the park...or both. 12:30 - 3:30 pm -- Andy Griffith Museum to Meet Betty "Thelma Lou" Lynn, and tour the museum/visit with fellow fans. -- Get a photo by the Andy & Opie statue. 4:45 - 7:30 pm -- Eat Dinner at "The Depot" in Dobson, NC (Or head out on your own to eat) -- Gather at Mayberry Motor Inn for trip to "The Depot" in Dobson, NC (about a 15-20 minute trip south on 601 out of Mt. Ariy). -- Bring your camera because it's a sight to behold. Here's a link to the web site - http://www.codycreek.net -- I figured we'd head down there a little early because they tend to get busy and to allow more "visiting" time back at the Mayberry Motor Inn after eating ~7:30 - 11:00 pm (or later) -- Gather at the Mayberry Motor Inn in the gazebo area (you don't have to be staying there to come over and visit). -- Bring sodas, tea, punch and some snacks if you have 'em. -- BRING lawn chairs if you have 'em. (There are some chairs at the gazebo but to be safe, bring your own.) -- Some Mayberry Music by anybody who wants to bring an instrument and play. Jane is planning something special. -- Watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together on a screen under the stars. -- Visit with friends. -- Maybe record some stuff for the podcast episode together. == Saturday Schedule == When you wake - 6 pm I'm going to call this a "free day" because there are no *big* plans until the Meet-up at the Gazebo -- Visit downtown Mt. Airy. Pick and choose -- Snappy Lunch (breakfast, lunch, or both - closes at 1:15 so eat early) -- Drop by Floyd's City Barber Shop -- Visit shops on Main Street (be sure to visit Mayberry on Main) -- Ice Cream at Barney's -- Mayberry Squad Car Tours starting at Wally's (30 minute ride) -- Visit Main Oak Emporium (Mayberry Jail & Taylor's front porch photo locations) -- Go to Pilot Mountain Stat Park for hiking, photo taking, or may even take a picnic lunch. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pimo/main.php -- Free time. Go out with friends/alone doing whatever you might like to do OR head over toward the Mayberry Motor Inn to get ready for the evening of fun. == FOOD FOR SATURDAY EVENING == -- The plan for eating is to order sandwiches from Subway in their Platter form *IF* Jan and I can get a good head count of how many people we have attending. Pizza is also a possibility. Bring chips if you have any special food you love. Bring soda or what you'd like to drink. Otis...not what YOU like to drink. :) 6:00 - 11:
Re: Andy's Birthday
<> I know the answer so I won't give it away but nature had been very good to her. That isn't a hint...just a statement. :) If you're on Facebook, be sure to follow the TAGSRWC page. http://www.facebook.com/tagsrwc The Presiding Goober of TAGSRWC posted this, along with a photo, on Andy's birthday: "Today we celebrate the "be-grinning" of Mayberry with the 89th anniversary of Andy Griffith's birth. He was born June 1, 1926." Over 675,000 people viewed that message honoring Mr. Griffith. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Two Chairs No Waiting 329: Who is Andy Taylor?
http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2015/05/two-chairs-no-waiting-329-who-is-andy-taylor/ Two Chairs No Waiting - Andy Griffith Show Podcast can be found at http://www.TwoChairsNoWaiting.com Last episode I said, "Mayberry fans know that Andy Taylor was called, "The Sheriff Without A Gun"." and that got me thinking, how well do folks know Andy Taylor? In all the episodes of Two Chairs, I've never really given any type of introduction to the people of Mayberry. Where they came from or who they are so I thought it was high time I corrected that oversight. Who better to focus on than *the* man of Mayberry, Sheriff Andy Taylor. == Links == # Andy Taylor - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Taylor_%28The_Andy_Griffith_Show%29 # Weaver's Department Store - http://www.weaversdepartmentstore.com # Sign up for the Two Chairs No Waiting Podcast mailing list - http://www.imayberry.com/mailman/listinfo/twochairspodcast_imayberry.com # iMayberry Community - http://imayberrycommunity.com/ # The Mayberry Historical Society - http://www.mayberry.info/ # The Mayberry Channel on YouTube.com - http://www.youtube.com/user/mayberrycom ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
