Helen Crump

2017-08-11 Thread Bentle, Margaret
To the people to do not like Helen's attitude, think about how sometime you
could be a bit testy when you don't get your way.
I know that I can get a little peeved at people when they don't do what needs
to be done. Then they turn it around on me and say that I have a bad attitude.
Usually I try to shrug off the bad attitude comment and go on about my business.

A few weeks ago three teenagers parked in my yard and I had to ask them to move
their car.
They said that they didn't realize that they had parked on my property (three
feet of grass and a fence gate).
Before they moved the car I told them that they needed to respect the
neighborhood and to park in the paid parking area behind the restaurant's down
the street.
Some woman who just happened to be walking down the street called me a feisty
old woman. I was just sticking up for myself and my property.
The restaurant's didn't come into the neighborhood until a tornado hit my part
of town in 1998. The parking has gotten worse and the people going to the
restaurants' and shops are very rude.
So as you can see I can understand Helen's attitude and sometimes wanting her
own way.

The one time Helen didn't stick up for herself and neither did Andy was at
Howard's house party and she had to dance with Goober, Howard and Andy, then
Emmitt.

Okay that is my rant for the day.

Frank Sutton

2017-05-03 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Thanks for the link about Frank Sutton.
I live just one mile from East High School.
I remember my freshman year at East and walking by all the class pictures from
the past, that was in 1977-1978. (telling my age)
My sister graduated from in East in 1978 and now she is on the alumni committee.
East is very proud of its' former students and their accomplishments, famous
and non-famous alike.
East graduated several former Nashville mayor's.
I also live near Frank's old home. Just looked up the address to make sure I
was right about where the apartment was located, one of the apartments is going
for $303,000.00.
Tulip Street United Methodist is no longer a worshipping congregation, they had
their final service December 2016.
They are calling Nashville the "IT" city.
People that are moving in to my neighborhood are young couples and young
families, most don't want to know any of the "old" neighbors.
The new neighbors like the bars and the restaurants in the neighborhood. I
have only been to one of the sit-down restaurants' in my neighborhood and it
was not good, bad food.

Sorry I got off the subject of Frank Sutton, Sgt. Carter.

people and belt and other stuff.

2017-04-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret

Nurse Mary Simpson was played byJulie Adams and Sue Ane Langdon.
A Sam Browne belt is the utility belt that police officers wear. Barney just
wears the belt, but Warren wears the belt and the shoulder strap.
The belt is also used by the military, usually in the dress uniform, unless
military police.

stale jokes

2017-03-26 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Ken thanks for the jokes.

I like stale jokes. I also like British humour (British spelling included).
I have a very dry sense of humour, most of the time no one gets my jokes.
When you have to explain jokes they aren't jokes anymore, they become long
stories.

The Fred and Jenny Boone joke was funny. The Boone episode was on this week on
MeTV. Just reminded me that leopard's just can't change their spots.
I hope Goober didn't get sick with the nasty golf ball. ( I would've been sick
for a year, YUCK).
Gomer just goes to prove that he was not the sharpest tool in the tool-box.

Ken Berry and Ken Anderson

2017-03-23 Thread Bentle, Margaret
On BuzzrTV this week I saw Ken Berry dancing in a commercial for PaperMate on
the old "I've Got a Secret" from 1963.
You could tell it was Ken from his smile.

I like watching the old game shows from the 1950's and 1960's to see the hair
styles and dresses.
The men were always in suits and ties.

Ken Anderson, I hope you are staying warm in Eau Claire? Where are the funny

Hi

2017-03-19 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Watching a local PBS show "The Songwriters" based in Nashville.
They interviewed Jim Weatherly who wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "The
Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me".
Mr. Weatherly was a friend of Jim Nabors.
Jim got him in touch with Dick Linke and he was Mr. Weatherly manager.
Danny Thomas was the father-in-law of Larry Gordon, Larry got Mr. Weatherly to
write "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" as an anniversary song for
Danny to sing to his wife.
The song "Midnight Train to Georgia" was supposed to be "Midnight Plane to
Houston".
Mr. Weatherly said that he was either talking to Lee Majors or Farrah Fawcett
and she was packing to go to Houston to see family and that sounded like a song
to him.

Don Knotts

2017-01-07 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Happy New Year TAGS fans.
This past Sunday, New Year day, I was watching 'The Joey Bishop Show'.
I had the greatest TAGS alumni sighting, Don Knotts, dressed as Deputy Barney
Fife.
Joey, Ellie (his wife), Larry (comedy writer and best friend), and Hilda (the
maid and nurse for the baby) played by Mary Treen (Rose from the first TAGS
episode), were in a cabin in the woods.
Joey keeps trying to pump water from the spout and nothing comes out. Everyone
one else can make the water come out.
During one on the last scenes Joey gets the water to come out and it starts to
flood, so he calls the sheriff and Barney shows up in full uniform and says
anytime city people come to the cabin they always make it flood.

I watched several episodes some were very funny.
The guest stars were great Zsa Zsa Gabor, Danny Thomas, Phil Foster, Leo
Durocher, Jerry Lewis, Jan Murray, Barbara Stuart (TAGS), Marlo Thomas, The
Andrews Sisters, Jane Dulo (TAGS), Herbie Faye(TAGS), Buddy Hackett and many
more.
This show was a Desilu production.

It was a blast to see TAGS alumni on the show. Don Knotts was still playing
Barney when he was a guest on Joey's show.
I think the only reason was because it was a Desilu show. (I could be wrong.)

I also found one of my sister's Christmas presents when I was moving something
in the house. I had forgotten about the book "Mayberry Trivia 1,500 questions
about a TV Classic" by Scott Hopkins.
I had also bought myself a copy, nice to find something after Christmas for
myself and my sister. She loves the book.
We played one of the games on Christmas day several times, we each one two
games and the last one was a draw.

First post of the New Year.

Hello

2016-08-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello WBMUTBB,

Sorry I haven't written lately.

Just wanted to thank Ken for the updates about the parades.

This summer I was leaving the bank and going thru the parking lot past the
grocery store and let a lady pass.
The lady stopped in her tracks and started laughing, had to roll down the
window an ask why, she said that she liked by front tag with Barney on the tag
and holder with "I'd rather be watching The Andy Griffith Show". That made my
week.

While watching "Opie and the Bully", noticed that Ron Howard tied his shoe and
then retied it, had never noticed that before.
I only remembered that Andy ties the shoelace again.

Been watching "Bewitched" lately and seeing a lot of TAGS alumni.
The following is a small list
Mabel Albertson - Mrs. Sprague
Charles Lane - Mr. Frisby
Roy Roberts - J. Howard Jackson
Bernard Fox - Malcolm Merriweather
Hope Summers - Clara Edwards
Ruth McDevitt - Ethel Pendleton
Robert Simon - Mr. Crawford
Parley Baer - Mayor Roy Stoner
Noam Pitlik - Roy Swanson
Richard X. Slattery - Captain Dewhurst

hi

2016-05-11 Thread Bentle, Margaret

I like to read the digest when I get to work, usually there is about four to
five digests waiting for me.
I read them during my breaks and lunch time, which is around two a.m..

Not only do I love TAGS, but I have several shows on DVD.
My list of shows on DVD are: TAGS, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched,
Gomer Pyle, The Munsters, The Addams Family, and All Creatures Great and Small.
Also the first season of Mayberry R.F.D. and the odd DVD of The Beverly
Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction.
The reason I bought Bewitched and Gilligan's Island at the time was because my
Dad had cancer and he just wanted to be able to laugh at something very funny.
Plus I loved those shows growing up, I got to watch them more than TAGS during
the 1970's.
If Daddy thought a show was funny I would buy the show if I could, just so that
he could laugh, I miss hearing him laugh.
We would watch TAGS on a local channel in Nashville.
My list of movies is too long, but most of them are from the years 1930-1970.
I like to watch the old movies and TV shows because I may spot someone who was
on TAGS.

We only have over-the-air TV and because of that I'm getting MeTV, Antenna TV,
GetTV, CoziTV, and Movies channel, and the regular Network shows (not watching
much of that stuff).
I like to watch the old shows see if anyone was on TAGS.

Ken Anderson and his pickle jokes were very funny. Keep them coming.
Just keep the digest going.

Floyd: "I'm going to Nashville."
Margaret: I already live in Nashville.

hello from snowy Nashville

2016-01-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello from Nashville.

I hope everyone that was caught in this snow is safe. Friday morning driving
home I saw the biggest snowflakes that I have ever seen.
Not just big snowflakes, but wet. All that wet snow turned to ice, I would
rather have snow than ice. I don't care where you are from YOU can't drive on
ice.
I've had former co-workers who are from the north say "I can drive on
anything". They just don't understand ice and the effects it has on brakes
(brakes are useless on ice).

No snow in Mayberry between 1960-1968, not sure about the weather conditions
before or after those years.
In the Christmas episode we are given to believe that it was cold, from
everyone wearing heavy coats, scarves and hats.
We do see water on the street when Ben Weaver is taking the court house bench.
I think one of the funniest scenes on that episode is when Opie took off his
hat and that red-hair stands-up with all that static.
Also Opie is also trying to take off his gloves by using the method of pulling
them with his teeth.

I have the "Andy and Don" book and no I haven't read it yet. Knew it was
written by Don's brother-in-law.

Can't wait to watch some TAGS this coming week.

Christmas memories

2015-12-17 Thread Bentle, Margaret

Hello fellow TAGS lovers.

My favorite Christmas memory would be going to Granny's house on Christmas Eve
and spending the night.
My Granny lived in a log house.
Well on Christmas morning my Mom and Dad woke-up with snow on the bed, not much
just enough to make a mess.
The snow came thru the cracks in the chink, (that is the stuff between the
wooden logs).
Santa still found us at Granny's.

Another Christmas memory from a different year was having fresh chicken for
lunch.

Watching "It's a Wonderful Life" on three different channels on the same night.
The start times were just one hour apart.
Started watching the movie on all the channels and finished on the last
channel. My Daddy loved that movie.
Always getting an apple, orange and candy-cane in my stocking, and I still do.

Ken glad you are still doing the presentations.

Barney's bullet

2015-07-15 Thread Bentle, Margaret
I bought a truck this past week, no big deal just a lot of looking and test
driving trucks.
I like to name my vehicles, they all had and have different personalities.
First truck was Big Blue, only had him four days and he was stolen.
Second truck was Buford, had him for 7 years, until someone separated the cab
from the bed of the truck, due to a wreck.
Third truck was Betsy, had her for 21 years. I always said that I would keep
her until she was being held together with bailing wire, duct tape and chewing
gum (almost did).
Someone hit me on June 19th and that was the beginning of the end for Betsy.
Now to the point of my story, the new truck is silver and his name is "Barney's
Bullet".
The finance guy at the dealership said I should call the truck Bullet and I
said no, it had to be "Barney's Bullet".
Does anyone else name their vehicles?
We all know Barney had different names for his gun, the old Roscoe, baby and
some more names. I need my bucket this morning.

Also been watching MeTV.
Petticoat Junction and The Beverly Hillbillies, the shows are full of TAGS
characters.

Ken Anderson glad you and the wife are getting out and about doing parades and

I can remember their birthday because they were born the same year as my mom,
Queen Elizabeth, Jerry Lewis, Betty Lynn, Don Rickles and many more.

2015-05-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello fellow TAGS lovers.
It seems that we are not doing justice to this wonderful site.
I know that I don't write in often.
But I do love to read what everyone else has written.

Okay since it is the start of summer...I want to read the stories from Ken
Anderson and the parades.
Paul Mulik and his knowledge of TAGS is beyond compare.
I only get to read the stories when I am at work, it helps make the nights go
faster.
People having TAGS sightings on other show are fun to know about.
I had two sightings today on Petticoat Junction: Roy Roberts and Charles Lane.
The Petticoat Junction show is one I had never seen before, several of the last
episodes I have never seen.
The other sighting is obvious it is from The Beverly Hillbillies: Buddy Ebsen.
The METV channel is great for seeing old shows that I love to watch.
Seeing old movies on GETTV and MovieTVNetwork.
Around Mother's day I saw "Love Nest", Marilyn Monroe was in the movie and so
was Dabbs Greer, he was just in one scene.

I want to wish Andy Griffith and Marilyn Monroe an early birthday, June 1, 1926.
Miss them, but I still get to watch TAGS and see the movies.

Betty Lynn

2015-05-04 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Watched two movies lately with Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou).
First was "Siting Pretty" were she played a teenager who had a crush on the
father of the boys she was "sitting" with.
This was her first movie roll, according to IMDB.com .
Robert Young played the father, he also played Elinor Donahue's (Ellie Walker,
lady druggist) dad in "Father Knows Best".
Maureen O'Hara played the mother.
In the credits she was listed as Betty Ann Lynn.

Second was "Cheaper by the Dozen" were she was in high school with the oldest
daughter of the Gilbreth family.
Both of the rolls were small.
Clifton Webb starred in both movies.

Paul thanks for the information about cousins...I can never keep that straight.

My best friend's daughter calls me Aunt Margaret. Which I just love to hear.
My flesh and blood nephew had a hard time calling me, Aunt Margaret when he was
young.
He just had to learn that Aunt Margaret is what I wanted to be called.
Children at church call me Miss Margaret, I enjoy that.

Just wanted to let everyone on the digest know the following:
I donated to the church library the complete series of "The Andy Griffith Show".
Several members are really glad that I did donate the series.
People can check out a disk or two at a time, but not the whole series.

If you haven't bought the TAGS calendar from Weaver's, do so it is great.
I got three, one for me, one for my sister and one for a sales clerk I know who
loves TAGS.

I will try and post more often this year.
Everybody keep posting...the digest brightens by work day.

"There is a Time"

2013-09-06 Thread Bentle, Margaret

08.26.2013Mayberry song picked up by Alan Jackson
By Greta Lint/The Courier-Tribune/Asheboro, NC
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country music star Alan Jackson has included one of the
signature songs from "The Andy Griffith Show" on his new CD, "The Bluegrass
Album."

"There Is A Time" was written by Rodney Dillard and Mitch Jayne, of The
Dillards, who performed on the hit TV show as members of the hillbilly family,
The Darlings.

The song was sung by Maggie Peterson, who played the role of their sister,
Charlene.

"That song was written 50 years ago," said co-writer Dillard. "We wrote the
song for the love of it, never expecting to see it become a major hit."

Dillard isn't sure why Jackson re-recorded the song, but that doesn't matter.

"I was thrilled when my publisher told me Alan was going to use the song. I
love his music and his writing. I'm a huge fan. His picking it up gave me the
assurance that it was a very high quality piece of music," Dillard said.

"I remember singing that song very well," Peterson said.

"We were in Andy's living room in Mayberry. I was trying to betroth Andy to my
doll, my 'daughter,' Andelina," she said.

On the television show, Charlene was always trying to nab the town's high
sheriff Andy Taylor to be her husband. But none of her ploys ever worked, even
when her brothers and father got involved.

"When I finished singing the song, Andy stopped playing and said, 'That's the
prettiest song I ever heard.' And that was the same episode where Barney got a
little funny after getting into some mulberry squeezin's in the living room,"
Peterson added.

She said she was thrilled when Dillard called her with the news about Jackson's
new CD.

"I can't wait to hear the song. I've never heard anyone else but us do it," she
laughed.

Jackson's CD will be released Sept. 24.

Originals that Jackson penned for the album include such titles as "Blacktop,"
"Blue Ridge Mountain Song" and "Mary." Covers on The Bluegrass Album include
The Dillards' "There Is A Time," John Anderson's "Wild and Blue" and a ¾-time
version of Bill Monroe's seminal "Blue Moon of Kentucky."

Jackson enlisted Scott Coney (acoustic guitar), Sammy Shelor (banjo), Adam
Steffey (mandolin), Tim Crouch (fiddle), Tim Dishman (bass), Rob Ickes (dobro)
and Ronnie Bowman and Don Rigsby (vocals) to produce the acoustic album.

Last of the Summer Wine and TAGS

2013-07-01 Thread Bentle, Margaret
David Quinn:
There is a connection to TAGS from Last of the Summer Wine.
I think the one who plays Norman Clegg (Peter Sallis) was in a movie or TV show
with Bernard Fox our own Malcolm Merriweather.
Last of the Summer Wine was on from 1973 - 2010.
The local PBS station in Nashville has been showing LOTSW since 2006 or 2007.
LOTSW reminds me of the friendships on TAGS close and not wanting to hurt
anybody's feelings.

Ken Anderson, I like to read about your adventures with the car shows and
lectures.

I've been watching Bewitched the first season and noticing a lot of TAGS
connections.
Reta Shaw - Big Maude and Eleanor Poultice, she played one of Samantha's aunts
Mable Albertson - Mrs. Sprague, played Darrin' mother
Robert Simon - Mr. Crawford, played Darrin's father
There could be others that were on both shows, I just can't remember them all.

same clothes

2012-06-21 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Regarding Opie's shirt, the orange and red check and how many times it was seen.

I've been watching a BBC show on PBS called "Last of the Summer Wine", this is
about older people and what they do after retirement, mostly the men.
Most of the men wear the same outfit on every show, 295 episodes over 32 years,
longest running British comedy.
The only time the men change is when they need to dress-up for a special
occasion or wear funny costumes.
I think the reason they wore the same outfits is because the filmed outside and
in a studio.
This made it easier on the post production side of the camera, easier to match
scenes.
One of the main characters on the show LOTSW (can't remember which one now),
worked with Bernard Fox (Malcolm Merriweather) on anther British show.

Bluegrass Legend Earl Scruggs Dies At Age 88

2012-03-29 Thread Bentle, Margaret
I know this has a small connection to TAGS, but it has more to do with "The
Beverly Hillbillies".
Buddy Ebsen was on TAGS as David Browne. gollywobbler maker.
Beddy played Jed Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies".

Bluegrass Legend Earl Scruggs Dies At Age 88

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Bluegrass legend and banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs, who
helped profoundly change country music with Bill Monroe and later with
guitarist Lester Flatt, has died. He was 88.

Scruggs' son Gary said his father passed away Wednesday morning at a Nashville,
Tenn., hospital. Gary Scruggs said his father died of natural causes.

The elder Scruggs was an innovator who pioneered modern banjo sound. His use of
three fingers rather than the clawhammer style elevated the banjo from a part
of the rhythm section -- or a comedian's prop -- to a lead instrument.

His string-bending and lead runs became known worldwide as "the Scruggs picking
style." It was perhaps most prominently displayed on the iconic theme from "The
Beverly Hillbillies."

Gary Scruggs says funeral plans are incomplete.

Christmas

2011-12-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Merry Christmas to everyone on the Digest.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day with family and friends.
Remember the reason for the season.
Listening to Christmas music while at work helps pass the time.
I'm working on Christmas Eve.

While I was on vacation at the beginning of December I started watching my
Christmas movies and old T.V. shows with Christmas themes.
So far that is about 34 Christmas movies and shows, and still more to watch.
It's never to late to watch a Christmas show.
I watched TAGS Christmas, it just gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
Ben Weaver reminds me so much of Scrooge it's scary.

When I came back to work I had to catch up on all the Digest's, no computer at
home.
Ken Anderson makes me laugh and cry from laughing. Ken how many villages does
your train or train's pass?
Paul Mulik's knowledge of TAGS is a blessing to us.
Allan Newsome is a prince of a fellow.
Also to the other digest contributors your knowledge and love of TAGS makes me
smile.

Well I better get back to work.

Keep a Bullet in your left shirt pocket, three jail keys on rings and six
rifles and guns in the gun rack.
Aunt Bee making orange dressing, Andy tasting the egg-nog, Opie trying to pull
the mitten off with his teeth, Ellie and Andy singing "Away in a Manger", while
counting the dishes.
The Muggins family in jail with the little tree and Ben Weaver trying to get
arrested.
Last but not least Barney parney poo, dressed as Santa with the beard hanging
below his face.

TAGS sightings

2011-09-02 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Recently watched the movie "Bus Stop" starring Marilyn Monroe (born on the same
day as Andy).
Noticed two people who would play on TAGS.
The first was Henry Slate who played the first Bobby Fleet in episode 3, "The
Guitar Player".
In the movie Mr. Slate played the manager of the Blue Dragon where Marilyn
worked as a singer.
The second was Casey Adams, aka Max Showalter, who played Ralph Mason in
episode 14, "The Horse Trader".
In the movie Mr. Adams (Showalter) played the LIFE magazine reporter.
If you blink you will miss them in the movie.

Kris Sellers

2011-08-14 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Kris Sellers... Welcome to the Nashville/Brentwood area.

I think there is a TAGS chapter in the area, not sure of the name.
I don't belong to a TAGS chapter. (I wish I did.)
I'll tell you like I told Jeff Koontz a few years ago. (read e-mail
below)
Watch out for one way streets that turn into two way streets and then
back again.
Streets that start with one name and change to another in the middle of
the block.
Example is 1st Avenue to Hermitage Avenue to Lebanon Roadpast that I
don't know what it is called.
If you go to downtown Nashville, the large building called the AT&T
building is known as the BATMAN building to the locals.

Margaret
Floyd: 'I'm going to Nashville.'
(Margaret: I already live in Nashville.)

Thu, 24 Aug 2006

Jeff Koontz

Welcome to Nashville. (are you coming with Floyd?)
If anyone tells you they live on Old Hickory Blvd. ask which part of
town, because it goes around Nashville.
The same thing goes for Briley Parkway.
Watch for road construction everywhere.
One-way streets sometimes turn into two-way streets.
Main Street turns into Gallatin Road or Pike (native Nashvillians say
Gallatin Road).
Gallatin Road turns into Nashville Pike.
To make it more confusing is that Gallatin Road is in Nashville and
Nashville Pike is in Gallatin, TN.
Watch the road signs.

Remember that the head Goober lives in town (Jim Clark).

Wasn't Tom Jacobs in a white lab jacket painting a sign on a window.
Andy comes by and shakes his head and Tom looks up from painting and
grins at Andy.
I think he is also one of the men who starts to cut down the oldest tree
in Mayberry.
Tom has on a white hat with black trim.

Plus I like the new website to see the background actors.

Jack Albertson who played Bradford Taylor, is the brother of Mabel
Albertson who played Mrs. Sprague.

Also Leon, pb&j, is Clint Howard who is the brother of Ron Howard, Opie.

things that go together

2011-07-19 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Sunday at church during the sermon, the minister was trying to make a
point of things that go together like the following:
teaching and doing, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Andy and Barney.
When he said Andy and Barney several TAGS fans perked up their ears.
I just started smiling from ear to ear.
Just thought I would share that moment.

Glad everyone had a good time at The Taylor Home Inn.
Marsha, are the jail cells complete yet?
Ken said something about the jail cells in one post.

Andy birthday

2011-06-01 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Happy 85th birthday Andy.

Also belated happy birthday to Ruta Lee. (Miss Darlene Mason and that
college kid).

To everyone who has recently been in a tornado, Paul Mulik and family,
Dave Browning and his wife.
I can sympathize and I cried when I was reading the accounts of what
happened.
On April 16, 1998, Nashville and surrounding counties were hit with
several tornadoes.
The two tornadoes that came thru my parents house, lifted me off my feet
and just about pulled
my arm joints out of place, I was holding onto a door frame at the time.

No basement or any where else to hide.
One tornado came thru the front door and one came in the back door at
the same time.
The doors were open at the time and I saw the tornadoes coming before
they hit the house.
The sound that the tornadoes made sounded like a thousand freight trains
going at once.
We had to move out of the house for about six to 7 months.
Still living at the house now with my mom.
I made the long story short, so that I wouldn't get a rude or break any
rules.

Ken, you and your partrol car get into more trouble than my truck and
me.
I like reading the stories about your Mayberry talks and things that
happen to you.

Everyone have a Mayberry kind of day.

Hello

2011-04-29 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Silent moments on TAGS.
This is when Clara has just left the kitchen out the back door (The
Pickle Story) and Aunt Bee does the waving of the hands and making a
face.
Doing a pinch more of cloves and allspice (I think).
In "Bringing up Opie", when Opie crawls into the bed of the truck and
goes to sleep. My stomach starts hurting each time, all them apples.
In "Ellie Saves a Female", when Andy takes Frankie Flint and puts her on
the top rung of the fence and next door boys come over to talk with her.

This is to Mike Peacock and Bob Bravetti. I'm not sure what happened to
make you want to leave the digest. I've had my feelings hurt by a
former member
of the digest. I finally had to let the hurt feelings go, Why, because
my stomach was in knots all the time, every time I opened my e-mails or
digest.
I'm now back to reading and posting on the digest, not often in the
posting area. The former member sent hurtful and hateful e-mails to me
personally and not to the
digest. Which I am very grateful. The reason I am grateful was because
of the language in the e-mails. I just started deleting the e-mails
when the were sent.

The only reason I saw "Wagon Train" is because I flipping thru the
channels and heard Andy Devine's voice.

I've also been wathing "Alias Smith and Jones", several TAGS alumni on
that show.
The first Wally and Tate Fletcher.
Can't think of who else, just remember seeing them.

belated birthday/Indy 500

Belated birthday greetings to Andy Griffith and the late Marilyn Monroe,
born on the same day and year, opposite coasts.

I finally got to see and hear Jim Nabors sing 'Back Home in Indiana'
before the Indy 500 this past Sunday.

I watched 'The Big Bang Theory', this past Monday night. Funny show,
but not my cup of tea.
I noticed that the two main characters names were Leonard and Sheldon.
I looked it up on imdb.com about the show and it said they were named
after Sheldon Leonard, executive producer of "TAGS".

TAGS is everywhere, BOY am I glad of that.

Nashville and rain

2010-05-15 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello TAGS family,

Welcome new members.
Happy Birthday Don Rickles our own Newton Monroe turned 84, May 8, 2010.

rain go away for a while

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for my hometown of Nashville,
Tennessee.

I hope everyone on the digest who lives in Tennessee is okay.
My immediate family survived the rain and flood.
My mom kept saying are we going to have to build an ark like Noah? The
front and backyard flooded three times each.
If you have ever been to Nashville or one of the surrounding counties,
you will know that we have some beautiful landmarks and landscape.
This past weekend May 1 and 2 we received almost 14 inches of rain.
Homes, businesses, churches, and hotels (Opryland Hotel and
The Grand Ole Opry House) were damaged with flood water and rain. The
Cumberland River which surrounds Nashville flooded.
The Harpeth River, Mill Creek, Duck River and several others flooded way
beyond their banks.
Some of the streets were so flooded that they were using boats to rescue
people from their homes.
Tennessee will survive and so will Tennesseans.
Come and visit the state. Visit the Grand Ole Opry, which for the time
being will be back at the Ryman Auditorium.
We have plenty of hotels in Nashville.

The National News really didn't cover the story, too much else going on,
bomber in NYC and the oil slick in the Gulf Coast.

Charles Lane

2010-04-27 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello fellow TAGS,

Paul that was a very funny dream.

Sunday night I was flipping thru the local T.V. channels and came across
a very old movie called "The Milky Way".
I only saw about the last 15 - 20 minutes of the movie. I did recognize
one voice Mr. Charles Lane, only heard him for a
split second.
Watched the rest of the movie and saw Mr. Lane again at the end of the
movie.
Not too sure what the movie was about.
I got something about a milkman and boxing.
When you only see a few minutes of a movie, you just don't get too much
out of it.
I was also crocheting at the time, a ripple afghan for a wedding
present. (info for the very curious.)

Allan on T.V.

2010-03-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
It has been awhile since I have posted, but I have been reading and
lurking around.

About two weeks ago I was watching one of the local newscasts in
Nashville.
They were talking about the new 3D T.V.'s and how much they cost between
$2500 and $3000. (too high for me).
The only reason I'm saying anything about this is because they were
talking about how shows from the 50's thru the 70's were talking
about 3D this and that.
They showed a clip of the beginning of 'The Andy Griffith Show', but the
clip was not Andy and Opie it was our on
Allan and his son walking down Franklin Canyon.
The reason I know it was Allan, 1. no fishing poles, just sticks, 2.
glasses on Allan, 3. Allan's son had on shoes, Opie didn't,
4. Allan doesn't walk like Andy.
I saw the clip for about 5 to 8 seconds, while the reporter was talking.
They must have gotten the clip off of you-tube.

Ken nose-hair braiding, yuck, yuck.
I like the discussion about the smallest and biggest cast.

When Andy and Helen were supposed to be engaged, (Barney saw them
kissing at the jewerly store), alot of people were at the house.
Also when Sam Jones was elected, the party was at Andy's house.

Christmas card

Mr. Westerfield was born in Nashville, Tennessee (my hometown and proud
of it.).
Everyone has an Uncle Ollie in the family or someone you work with.

rotund man

2009-06-05 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Another member of the digest asked about a short rotund man? I've been
wondering who he is? Is he the same man who in a black and white episode
that about jumps out of his skin when someone either honks at him or
tells him to move?

I think the episode is 'Barney's Sidecar', this is where Barney honks
the horn and the man jumps. Who is this man?

On the digest we have been wondering who Mr. Schwump or Schwamp is and
Nice Dress Nellie, so let's try and find out who this man is. He
usually wears a hat, white with black band, pants almost up to his
armpits and white shirt.

some what of a TAGS sighting

2009-05-24 Thread Bentle, Margaret
This past Thursday I watched on the local PBS channel "Live from Lincoln
Center New York City Ballet's 'Romeo and Juliet' ".

Didn't get to see the whole ballet my PBS station went out on my T.V.

The whole time I was watching the ballet I kept hearing Andy in my head
telling the story to Opie and Aunt Bee.

Saturday I watched 'A Feud is a Feud', just love the Mr. Carter and Mr.
Wakefield.

I finally got to watch a movie I received for Christmas this past
weekend.

The movie was James Cagney and Bette Davis in 'The Bride came C.O.D.'
very funny movie. I loved it when Bette Davis fell on a catus and

James Cagney had to pull the thorns out.

Now here is the stretch in TAGS sightings. The following people were in
'The Bride came C.O.D.'

Pop Tolliver was played by Harry Davenport, the whole time I was
watching the movie his voice was so familiar and I finally realized he
played

Dr. Meade from 'Gone with the Wind' (filmed on 40 acres lot).

Sheriff McGee was played by William Frawley, Fred Mertz from 'I Love
Lucy', TAGS filmed at DESILU studios.

Peewee Defoe was played by George Tobias, Abner Kravitz from
'Bewitched', Bernard Fox was on 'Bewitched' and TAGS.

Hello Fellow Mayberrians,

On the way home from work this morning, I was listening to my favorite
country station WSIX 97.9 in Nashville.
The host is Gerry House and Mike Bohan. Gerry was talking about getting
two Chihuahua's from the Nashville animal shelter.
Gerry and his wife named them Lucy and Desi. He also said that the
dog's had the Chihuahua shake, Mike asked what that was.
Gerry stated that the dog's shaked like Don Knotts from "The Incredible
Mr. Limpet".
I'm glad I was almost home because I started laughing so hard tears were
coming down my face.

Also Sunday, one of the ladies from church asked had I seen the video of
"Waiting on a Woman" with Brad Paisley and Andy Griffith.
I told her that I had and that everytime I see the video I cry. The
video came out just after my dad passed away and it just reminded me of
him.
My dad waited on my mom for over 51 years, now I'm doing the waiting on
my mom.

Also my favorite b/w show without Barney is the "Darlings are Coming".
When Charlene 'trees' Andy in the courthouse I have laughing tears down
my face.

Henry Fonda and Denver Pyle

2009-04-03 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Martha Humpreys, the curious.

I hope this helps.

Henry Fonda and Denver Pyle were on a T.V. show together called "The
Deputy" 1959, the name of the episode was "Shadow of the Noose".

I've never seen this show, just doing a little investigative work for a
fellow TAGS fan.

>From the notes I've read about this show Mr. Pyle was on two episodes,
different character each time.

Mr. Fonda was the cheif marshal of the town.

The following is the website with more information about the show:
http://ctva.biz/US/Western/Deputy.htm

My Mom and I watched "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" last week and she asked me if it
was in the script about Barney telling the dog to "Move over I'm
driving".
I told her I didn't know and low and behold the digest had the answer
for me. Aren't you kind, aren't you kind to quote Malcom Merriweather.
This scene and several other famous scenes are shown for commercials for
a local channel in Nashville, that show TAGS.

Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient

2009-03-19 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient
I went to Google to do a search on Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient. I
read the information given (not all of it), I still can't tell
you want it said. After reading the first two sentences my head
starting hurting. That will tell you I am not a mathematical
genius. I'm more like Jethro - 2 and 2 are 4, 4 and 4 is 8. I can't
add like Ernest T. Bass, tapping out my answers.

I usually watch TAGS from the DVD's in order unless I want to see a
specific episode. (The Manicurist - my dad's favorite)
I also watch on the local channel in Nashville.
I've seen the BW episodes more than I have seen the color episodes.

squirrel

2009-03-13 Thread Bentle, Margaret
For the Untrained Voice, Joe Gritton.

Just imagining a grown man chasing a small rodent around the house was
just too funny.
That story has made my week. I had to stop reading several times to
catch my breath, because I was laughing so hard.
Most of the time I was thinking about Barney running around after a
squirrel.
Gomer getting the mouse trap from under the freezer. (Andy to Aunt Bee:
just call the man.)

Fighting like a man..I hollered like a child, and threw my shoe at it
like a woman.
Being a woman I don't think I would throw a shoe, (too expensive for
some shoes, I don't have any that expensive) I might throw a hammer,
iron, or anything I could get my hands on at that given moment.
Now I can holler like a child or stuck pig, which ever you prefer. They
are both very loud when squealing.

Next next time you get an invasion of the unwanted kind just call the
man. I'm so glad I don't have a fireplace.

different things

2008-12-23 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello WBMUTBB digest and Mayberry fans,

Happy belated birthday Allan. I hope you had a great day. My birthday
was at the beginning of December. I was too sick to care that it was my
birthday that morning. My three best friends called to wish me Happy
Birthday, that was the best part of the day. One friend is in Montana,
one in Knoxville and one in Nashville. They gave me that nice warm
Mayberry feeling.
On my birthday I watched the TAGS Christmas show. I loved it when Ben
Weaver fell off the box outside the jail and Andy asked Santa (Barney)
if he parked his reindeer outback. Santa (Barney) had tha confused look
on his face.

I can't wait till Christmas Eve so that I can watch "It's a Wonderful
Life" on NBC. That was one of my Dad's favorite movies, he would want
to watch the movie in the middle of July just to get the Christmas
feeling.

As for the snails (escargot) I don't think I could eat any. I never
could hook the worm, my Dad always did that for me when I was little.
I could clean and gut the fish.

Wasn't the name of the wine called PuFwiss (spelling), I think it was
French, Frank the teacher gave Aunt Bee.

I wish everyone a Happy Holiday.
Stay safe. Don't drink and drive (Otis) and buckle-up it's the law in
Tennessee.

Extra hello to the other Margaret. (we need to make sure we don't get
confused with each other.)

Mr. Kessel

2008-10-28 Thread Bentle, Margaret
To the people of WBMUTBB digest.

Mr. Kessel was right in telling us that all the great character actors
have passed on.
Mr. Kessel e-mailed me and said that I was challenging him, if it seemed
that I was please don't believe it.
I was not challenging him or anyone else I made a bad observation on
something I read on CNN.
I learn so much when he sends in an interview from an actor he has
talked to personally.
I won't go into detail telling you what he said in the e-mails.
Suffice it to say it maybe a long time before I send in another e-mail
to the digest, but I will keep reading them.
I don't know his circumstances, but I hope that someday someone will
want copies of his interviews.
I wish I could read them.

One thing I agree with Mr. Kessel about is that I'm sick of the politics
on the digest.
Except the politics about Mayor Pike and Stoner.

Please except this as a public apology, Mr. Kessel.
Sorry again.

Margaret
reader of the digest for now.

TV's 'Mr. Clean' dies at 92/ Mr. Kessel

2008-10-26 Thread Bentle, Margaret

I know this is not related to TAGS. Mr. Kessel said that all the
character actors have died.
This gentleman maybe the last one.
House Peters Jr., a TV actor who became the original Mr. Clean in
Procter & Gamble's commercials for household cleaners, died Wednesday,
October 2, 2008. He was 92.

"Peters Jr. was never a leading man, but played many character parts in
cowboy movies and won a Golden Boot Award in 2000 for his lifetime
contributions to the western genre, his son said." Isn't that the
definition of a character actor.
Please read the article from CNN.
http://us.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/02/obit.petersjr.ap/index.html

I just thought about a character actor that is still alive, Rance
Howard, Ron Howard's dad.
Mr. Kessel did you ever meet Rance Howard?

I am so grateful for people like Tom Kessel, Paul Mulik, Joe Gritton,
Bob Bravetti, and countless others.
Thank you Allan Newsom and your whole family.
I don't post often, but I do read all the digest's. I work a 12 hour
shifts, 3 days a week. When I get to work the first night back I read

information needed

2008-10-08 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Need more information about William Lanteau, he played Ed Sawyer in
'Stranger in Town'.
I just watched a movie 'That Touch of Mink' with Doris Day and Cary
Grant (always handsome).
Also need information on a man from 'That Touch of Mink', he played the
man on his honeymoon, ( this bald man with glasses and squeaky voice),
that Cary Grant's character thought was with Doris Day's character. I
know this is not TAGS related, but it is "Praying on my mind".
Can't wait for Halloween, TAGS, 'The Haunted House' and 'Arsenic and Old
Lace'.

TAGS Marathon

2008-05-27 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello everyone in Mayberry,

A local channel in Nashville two weeks ago had a TAGS Marathon on
Saturday and Sunday.
Two people at Church on Sunday asked if I watched any of the marathon on
Saturday.
I told them I had and that I planned on watching more Sunday afternoon.

Being a semi-trained noticer of TAGS, I noticed in "Andy the
Matchmaker", that
Barney had his bullet in the right front pocket.
I know the other times Barney pulls out his bullet from the left shirt
pocket.

Did Don Knotts have a missing tooth on the upper left side? It looks
like a gap in the teeth during the
first year of TAGS.

I liked seeing Mr. Schwamp, in the "Fun Girls", he was a social
butterfly taking that bottle of pop
to the dark haired lady. (Native Nashvillians call a bottle of pop a
'Coke' no matter what kind of soft-drink you have.)

I have also been watching 'Beach Party' movies, with Frankie and
Annette.
In one of the movies Eric VonZipper is on a go-cart going thru our own
town of Mayberry.
It looked strange seeing the beach kids and VonZipper on the streets of
Mayberry.
Just waiting for Barney to come around the corner and give the kids a
ticket.

Nashville and Grand Ole Opry / TAGS on The Addams Family

2007-05-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Johnna,

Welcome to Nashville. (are you coming with Floyd?)
If anyone tells you they live on Old Hickory Blvd. ask which part of
town, because it goes around Nashville.
The same thing goes for Briley Parkway. (The Grand Ole Opry House is off
Briley Parkway, the newer building).
The Ryman is in downtown Nashville, this is were the Opry moved from.
They still have the Opry there during the
winter months.
Remember that in August, Nashville if very hot and humid. Bring light
weight clothes. I hope you have a good time while
you and your mother are in town.

Remember that the head Goober lives in town.

I've been watching The Addams Family on DVD. I have seen Otis (Hal
Smith) as a judge. Otis' wife and several other people from TAGS. I
also listened to the commentary on one of the show's and the man who did
the voice of
Fred Flintstone was on the show.

p.s. I sent this e-mail to Jeff Koontz when he moved to Nashville.

The reason for the baby picture was the talk show is having a beautiful
