Mayberry RFD

2006-06-04 Thread MICHAEL CREECH
I'm really excited about all of the color episodes being released as well as
Gomer Pyle, USMC. I was so afraid that after the black & white episodes were
out that the "powers that be" would decide to end it there. My next "Christmas
Wish" is that Mayberry RFD will follow as well. There was a rumor floating
around less than a year ago that Paramount had plans to complete The Andy
Griffith Show in 2006 and Mayberry RFD was slated to be released by Warner Bros
in 2007. Since the TAGS part of the rumor appears to be genuine, maybe, if
we're real lucky, they'll release all three seasons of RFD next year.

MAYBERRY RFD

2008-11-30 Thread DAVID QUINN

 For one reason and another (College, Army), I was away from a TV set from 1968
until 1972. This week TV Land had been broadcasting the final shows of Andy
with Sam Jones showing up. It got me to wondering, since Andy and Helen left
Mayberry in 1969, but Sam, Howard, Emmett, and Goober stayed around, did they
ever show who replaced Andy as Sheriff on Mayberry RFD? TV Land does not show
reruns of Mayberry RFD and I have not purchased the DVD's as of yet so I do not
know the answer to this question. I know there are a lot of you who will know
the answer to this question.

I have wondered why I never watched Mayberry RFD and realized by the dates it
aired that Viet Nam got in the way. So, when I received the 1st season today,
I was anxious to see if it had that "Mayberry feel." With Andy and Barney
gone, the "feel" seemed to be gone...but then there it was... in Emmett's
grouchiness, Howard's fussiness, and Goober's sweetness.

TAGS fans,

We purchased the first season of Mayberry RFD on DVD and have really been
enjoying it. The first few episodes are (IMHO) a bit weak, but once everything
and everyone is established, the show's very good.

On the episode we watched today--which was actually a two-parter!--Aunt Bee
falls in love with Will "Grampa Walton" Geer and gets engaged. In the story,
they wind up not going through with it because he still loves the sea. Of
course, we all know is that the real reason is that he married Hubcaps Lesch
and lived out his days on Sam Jones' porch.

 I'm told the first couple of seasons it was filmed at 40 Acres but during its
third and final season it was filmed at Warner Brothers. The town does look
different during that third season, including a grassy park in the middle of

I think the apartment complex scene may have been filmed on location somewhere,

To answer Wayne and Anne Newsome's question, "Mayberry R.F.D." was a
continuation of "The Andy Griffith Show," when Andy left the cast. Ken Berry,
fresh off his run on
"F Troop," was introduced as farmer and city councilman Sam Jones during the
last season of "The Andy Griffith Show" and was now the alpha male of Mayberry.
 The show ran
three seasons from 1968 until that fateful year CBS cancelled "everything with
a tree in it," 1971, despite the fact "Mayberry R.F.D." actually finished that
season in the top 20.

It's not on DVD yet but someone is adding episodes on Youtube.

Andy in Mayberry RFD

2006-12-20 Thread John Foster
I have been getting into watching the Mayberry RFD episodes lately. I know
they are not the same quality and don't have the same chemistry as the b&w
TAGS, but it is the closest thing I can do to getting a fresh look at Mayberry!
 It is so nice to watch an episode that I don't know for sure how it is going
to come out!

Anyway, I just watched the episode of RFD where Andy and Helen come back (Andy
is working in Charlotte) to have Andy Jr. christened. I didn't remember Andy
and Helen having a baby in any of these episodes (I guess they ignore in on
Return to Mayberry).

My question is - is that the last appearance of Andy on RFD? It is sad how
much his character changed by the time of RFD and the later TAGS. He seems
upset most of the time and really not wanting to be there. It is so amazing to
watch the first or 2nd year of TAGS up against the last years of TAGS and RFD.

Have a great Christmas.

John in NH.

Sheriff in Mayberry RFD

2008-12-02 Thread Jay Wormsley
As far as a Sheriff in Mayberry during the run of RFD, no Sheriff was elected.
Goober did serve as a special deputy, however in one episode Sam or Howard
stated that the State Police was a call away. At one time Howard did want to
find a full time Sheriff, but cooler heads won out and all got back to normal.

Mayberry RFD on MeTV

2014-09-05 Thread Russell Taylor
Our MeTV affiliate here in Mobile, AL, MeTV Gulf Coast, started showing an
hour of Mayberry RFD here on Monday night at 7:00 each night during the
week. MeTV is actually airing The Andy Griffith Show at 8:00 PM
Eastern/7:00 PM Central as part of its regular weeknight schedule but if
you have a local station which airs TAGS regularly, which we do, you will
then receive airings of Mayberry RFD instead. I'm quite happy as I have not
been able to watch Mayberry RFD since the old GoodLife TV network stopped
airing it on Sunday nights back in 2004.

Mayberry RFD & Gomer on DVD

2006-06-04 Thread Bart Boatwright
This is from TV Shows on DVD. Sounds like there is a good chance that
Mayberry RFD and Gomer are coming to DVD!!

The 8th and final season of The Andy Griffith Show is set to come to
DVD before the end of the year, according to our friends in the home
video industry who pass on such rumors and gossip to us. The 30
episodes that wrap up the series are supposedly in the works to hit
store shelves on December 12th. That is, by the way, the same date
that we were told to expect the first season DVDs of the spin-off
series, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.!!

And speaking of spin-offs, don't forget that The Andy Griffith Show
finished with one! The final episode of "TAGS" aired on 4/1/68, and
re-ran in primetime on 9/16/68. A week later, on 9/23/68, Mayberry
R.F.D. debuted, picking up right where the last Andy Griffith Show
episode - called "Mayberry R.F.D." (and not by coincidence, either!)
- left off. Look for guest starring shots from Jack Albertson, Harry
Dean Stanton, Alan Oppenheimer, a VERY pre-WKRP Howard Hesseman, an
even-younger Teri Garr, Ken Berry and the cast of Mayberry R.F.D.,
and a single-episode return of the late great Don Knotts as "Barney
Fife"!

Stay tuned, and as soon as Paramount Home Entertainment makes this
date official and thereby validates our info, we'll have more details
for you!

Patty Regan in Mayberry RFD

2011-11-02 Thread Ken Anderson
I mentioned in an earlier post about people here in Eau Claire remembering
TAGS actress Patty Regan. I mentioned how I show screen captures of her in
her TAGS roles. Well tonight while watching an episode of Mayberry RFD,
Eau Claire's own Patty Regan made another appearance. She played a soda
jerk in a lengthy scene with Arlene Golonka in episode "Millie and the
Golf Pro". The story was how Aunt Bea, Sam, Mike, Millie, Howard, Goober,
and Emmett went on a vacation together in Palm Springs. There were
four consecutive episodes with this story.

Re: Mayberry RFD on Youtube

2011-11-06 Thread dixonhayes

Someone has posted all of seasons one of "Mayberry, R.F.D." on Youtube.
Finally great to see it someplace since it's apparently not commercially
available on DVD or on higher quality streaming. These episodes were recorded,
apparently on VHS, from a TV Land marathon several years ago.

Some observations:
Andy and Helen's wedding (specifically, Barney's role in it) still cracks me
up. If that were to happen now, it would have been a two-part series finale
for TAGS during ratings sweeps.

Opie sure was a good kid. Mike seems to get into trouble a lot more often and
doesn't seem to be as smart.

The Aunt Bee in the wedding episode is more liberated than the one in the TAGS
pilot, even though the script appears to be a remake.

We've talked alot about African Americans in Mayberry; R.F.D. seems to show
even more diversity. Sam has an African-American neighbor, Ralph, who has a
son slightly older than Mike and a daughter Goober taught in driver's ed.

Some of us have complained about the scripts on "Mayberry R.F.D" and
specifically, how the writing doesn't fit the characters. One example I saw in
season one: Clara Edwards is a lot meaner than she was on TAGS, and pointedly,
she doesn't seem to have any scenes with Aunt Bee anymore. I wonder if the two
actresses had some kind of falling out and one refused to work with the other?
Another example: Howard suddenly caving in too much during a debate, certainly
not the guy we saw take Aunt Bee apart in another debate when they were running
for town council.

There are some good moments throughout season one, and one episode ("The
Camper") actually made me laugh out loud repeatedly. I honestly think that one
could've worked with Barney and Gomer years earlier, it was that funny.

At least one of Andy's appearances, the one in the episode where Mike loses his
wristwatch, didn't seem necessary at all to the plot. It was still good to see
him (and the squad car, and the inside of the sheriff's office) again.

And some of the episodes could've played just as well with Andy in Sam's role,
which made me wonder if they used any leftover scripts that were intended for
Andy. (On the other hand, some of the episodes obviously could only be done
with Sam and Millie, like for instance the one about Sam's bean crop failing
while Millie grows a bumper crop in her back yard.)

Car nuts will notice Mayberry went from being a Ford town to a Mopar city, and
Sam drives a new Dodge truck every year (as opposed to the older Ford truck he
drove on "The Andy Griffith Show"). We even get a brief glimpse of Andy
driving a Dodge Coronet in the Mayberry Sheriff's Office striping package. Sam
also has a new Plymouth sedan every year, compared to Andy, who only had his
one work vehicle.

Two episodes feature a then-unknown Jodie Foster, and in one of them, she
doesn't speak and isn't even credited!

I sure wish they would release this series on DVD. What are they waiting for?
It has a ready made audience.

Fwd: Blacks in Mayberry RFD

2012-01-23 Thread Marie

Anybody looking for Black people in Mayberry should watch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B6QVxGa7gg&feature=related The Youth Day. It is
a season one episode focusing on the three boys chosen to run Mayberry for a
day. The Black kid takes over as County Clerk under the supervision of Howard
Sprague & he gets as much attention as Mike & Arnold do. His father has even
more scenes than Arnold's though I always thought his dad was a doctor. In this
episode Andy calls him by his first name.

Enjoy! I did.

My daughter and I volunteer at a local animal shelter that operates entirely on

a signed, C.O.A. from Ken Berry, who played Sam Jones and I can provide screen
shots from numerous episodes proving its authenticity. It was even used in
scenes with Andy Griffith in at least one episode of Mayberry RFD (Help On The
Farm). If anyone is seriously interested in this item, email me personally at

More thoughts on Mayberry RFD

2014-11-13 Thread m white
TAGS fans,

Almost through season 1 of Mayberry RFD (and hoping they'll release 2!) and had
some thoughts on the show:

- After the first few episodes, when they were mostly establishing themselves
(I guess), the show got much better.
- How did Milly Swanson afford that huge house on the salary of a counter girl
at a bakery?!?! It's made clear she doesn't own the bakery herself. One
episode mentioned that she used to be a chorus girl, so maybe she made a lot of
money at that and retired.
- When Aunt Bee throws her engagement party, how come Andy and Opie don't
attend?

Mayberry RFD Seasons 2 & 3

2015-08-15 Thread Chad Palmer
Hey folks, let me first say I'm happy to be back in "Mayberry" after
falling off the WBMUTBB rolls for several years. Glad to see the recent
discussions about Mayberry R.F.D and it got me to thinking. I know
Warner released Season 1 several years ago, but does anyone happen to
have "home recorded" copies of Seasons 2 & 3 on DVD that you would be
willing to share with me?

For years I've been relying on an old set of VHS tapes of RFD from TNT
airings in the early 1990's. They were copied for me by a member of this
group many, many eons ago.

I realize RFD airs in some markets on ME-TV (lucky people!) so I was
hoping someone might have recorded the last two seasons?

As a bit of trivia... I actually started the internet's first ever
Mayberry RFD site back in the early 1990's. It is the one listed in the
Mayberry R.F.D book by Dale Robinson.

If you can help please contact me directly.

Metv will not be airing both shows in any market. where it can be shown
TAGS will air on MeTV but if another one of your local channels has the
rights to TAGS then in your area will be receiving Mayberry RFD. MeTV
has no intentions of showing them both in both markets the Mayberry RFD
is just for areas with contract issues (another LOCAL channel having
rights to TAGS). Here in Cincinnati since our local wkrc holds the
rights and airs TAGS week day mornings in an hour block beginning at
10am we will get to watch Mayberry RFD each evening on Metv. Hope that
clears some confusion on this matter. Just remember no matter where you
live you will be getting Mayberry it all depends on the area of the
version.

blooper about Andy's house on Mayberry, RFD

2012-01-05 Thread King of Mayberry
I just watched the Mayberry, RFD episode "An Efficient Service Station" (season
1 episode 22) on YouTube. I was shocked and appalled at the blooper I saw!
Goober was selling shoes door-to-door and went up to Andy's house. There was a
sign nailed to the porch that said "Room and Board". When he rang the doorbell,
some cheesy salesman opened the door and sold Goober a pen/pencil. It was
obviously a rooming house. But in RFD Andy hadn't moved away from Mayberry yet.
(They mention his moving in season 2 episode 1 of RFD when he and Helen bring
Andy, Jr. to show
off.)

To see Andy's house as a boarding house (like Mrs. Mendelbright's) was quite
disheartening. I'm going to have to pour me some sweet cider and sit on the
porch and count cars for a while to calm down.

Mayberry RFD another comment and Insecticide convention

2012-06-01 Thread jgr...@frontier.com
I know the question about Barney on Mayberry RFD got answered.  I have anothe
RFD question.  I have watched most of the episodes on Youtube, since DVDs of
RFD are not readily available.

Are all the episodes there?  I have not found episodes such as Goober's
Brother, and Millie the Secretary, the numbering seems to be off also.  My book
(Fernandes and Robinson's A Guide to Television's Mayberry RFD) says that
Season two Ep 1 is Goober's brother..but the Youtube episode S2E01 is Andy's
Baby.

Any help would be appreciated.

This week in my local paper (Westfield IN) the first sentence was "the 10th
Fumigant and Pheremones Technical conferencebut for those in the pest
control industry it was a can't miss event.  IT was a bonafied international
insecticide convention!!  I'm dying to find out who sang the national anthem.
I wonder if they did as good a job as Leonard Blush..or if they wore a mask???

Th next confernce in 2014 will be in Krakow Poland...so this year's event was
the last chance for a while to sing our national anthem.  This was a regular
international event on the  scale of Mayberry's the Summit.  representatives
from 33 countries attended!!

You just never know when Mayberry is going to pop up.

Re: Why Aunt Bee left Mayberry RFD

2020-05-09 Thread Harriet Browder
> Does anyone know why Frances Bavier left Mayberry RFD after the second season?

You'll most likely get several versions, this is just one from a Google
Search I've driven past her multistory, red brick home in Siler City, and
visited her grave. Siler City is peaceful, serene, and very small town sized.

~~~
Born in Manhattan, Bavier was a city girl. She went to college uptown at
Columbia University. She began her showbiz career on vaudeville and Broadway
stages. But something about the quiet life in the Carolinas appealed to her
private personality.
In 1972, not long after her final appearance on Mayberry R.F.D., Bavier left
Hollywood and purchased a home in Siler City, North Carolina. Despite the fact
that her TV shows were filmed in California, Bavier noted, "I fell in love with
North Carolina, all the pretty roads and the trees."
Siler City sits about 90 miles southeast of Mt. Airy, North Carolina,
Griffith's hometown and the real-life inspiration for Mayberry. At the time,
both little burgs were about the same size, with about 5,000–7,000 residents.
It's easy to assume that life in Siler City was akin to living in Mayberry.
Bavier lived the rest of her quiet life in the town, until she passed away in
1989. She was buried in Siler City. Chiseled on her tombstone, under the name
"Aunt Bee," the inscription declares, "To live in the hearts of those left
behind is not to die."
Re: blooper about Andy's house on Mayberry RFD
2012-01-08 Thread Brent Seguine
I would not categorize this as a blooper.  I doubt if production personnel were
implying it was the former Taylor house.  It was just a 40 Acres set that was
available for that day's RFD shooting schedule.  If anything, staffers probably
assumed that no one would notice... 50 years of reruns, fans, TAGSRWC, etc.,
have shown that to be an error in judgement.
However...
"An Efficient Service Station" aired March 1969, and by that time viewers were
led to conclude that Andy, Helen and Opie have moved away from Mayberry.  There
were no specific, prior mentions establishing this, but the clues are there.
Andy Griffith's last season 1 guest appearance was "Mike's Losing Streak"
(aired January 1969); in "Aunt Bee's Cruise" (February 1969), Bee has a
telephone conversation and is told the Taylors will return for her wedding to
Capt. Wolford, implying they are no longer in Mayberry.  And, in season 2's
opener "Andy's Baby" (Sept. 1969) we learn that Andy and Helen moved away
months earlier.
We see a lot of press today regarding texting and driving at the same time.
Do you know what Barney first grabbed Malcolm Meriweather for?
 For "Bicycling and map reading" at the same time.
Of course he collided with a truck and caused all kinds of chaos..but it was an
arly form of distracted driving just the same that caused the accident.
 Now back in that day Barney got by with something that is taboo today..Racial
r, um  Geographic profiling.
Did you hear that bird?  Listen to the way he sounds.  He could be from
"somewhere's else!"
Yea he just might me from Eckmandwa (sp?) England.
I had my bucket on for this one.
Back on our calendar discussion, I want to correct myself.  Leap year calendars
epeat themselves only every 28 years.  Non-leap-year calendars do repeat more
ften, (approx 7 years) as pointed out by trained noticers here.
Thanks to Allan, I won't have to rely on my insurance man for a calendar with
Things I Learned About Goober from Mayberry RFD
2012-01-11 Thread Ken Anderson
Here are a few things I learned about Goober by watching Mayberry RFD.
Goober's family owned the rubbish hauling business in Mayberry.
Goober's older brother Braydon was a brilliant engineer who worked at NASA.
Goober was given a job teaching Driver's Education at Mayberry Union High
even though he never graduated from high school.
Goober helped write a comic book story  and received half of the money when
it was published.
Goober was the deputy and only law official in Mayberry after Andy left.
Goober never talked over three minutes on the phone and used an egg timer
to make sure.
Goober owned a reel to reel tape recorder.
Goober lived in the boarding house right next to his new gas station.
Goober's life long ambition was to become an elder at the Mayberry Church.
Goober slept in bright red pajamas.
Mr. Schwamp Spotted in Season 3 of Mayberry RFD
2011-11-03 Thread Ken Anderson
In watching another episode of Mayberry RFD last night, I spotted our
elusive Mr. Schwamp.  I did a pause and it is definitely him.
He appeared in Season 3, Episode 16 "Millie's Egg Farm". He was in the
coffee shop having coffee at a table at the very end of the episode. He
also appeared at the bachelor party for Andy in the episode Andy and Helen
Get Married.  I wonder if those trying to find his real identity have
investigated the Mayberry RFD angle.  If he was in the third season, he
stayed around for quite a while.  I am going to go through all my Mayberry
RFD episodes to see if I spot him anywhere else.  So, does anyone know if
the RFD folks were contacted about him?
