Re: [weewx-user] Raspberry pi USB disconnects

2020-04-27 Thread Praveen Chandrasekaran
Attached output of lsusb.

I dont see anything in lsof output probably because nothing is using it at
the moment (shouldnt weewx be using it continuously in rapidfire mode?)

Also can I edit weewx to add lsob whenever the error occurs?

 "usb issue must be on pi side." Not sure what you're asking here but,
 yes, the USB plugs into the pi, and that's where the assignment to /dev
 occurs.

 The very short screenshot you included doesn't offer many clues as to
 the cause.

 The output from 'dmesg' may also give clues.

 Yes, ferrite coils tend to help.

In regards to registering with CWOP, you need to sign up with them for the data
to flow. Since you did that, my second question was about the rain showing on
FindU today. I wondered if that which is uploaded is the same rain number that
is showing on your 2100. I am having discrepancies between what is showing up
at CWOP and findU and what is being displayed on the Ultimeter.

I also reported this frustrating behavior to:

https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=39321.new#new

Now I can work on improving my WX data quality.  Might have to ask the
local FD if I can mount a mast and an impeller at the local fire
department.  No good spot at my house, but maybe I can remedy that since
I am stuck home with this COVID lock down.  I don't think my wife would
be cool with a 40' mast, but hopefully I can get her to let me post it
up because of the emcomm aspect of having a radio tower.

Thanks for you help,

Hi Bob,

Thanks a lot for the good news :-)
I will test it with the extra sensors and let you know. I have two sensors,
the sensors can be set as ch1-7 by an internal switch so I can test all the
channels, one by one.

Have a nice day.

Re: [weewx-user] Raspberry pi USB disconnects

2020-04-27 Thread Tom Keffer
Things to try:

1. Ferrite coils might help, although you are getting a lot more errors
than what is normally associated with EMI.

2, Another possibility is that something else is trying to claim
/dev/ttyUSB0. For example, modemmanager has been known to do this.

To see a list of processes using /dev/ttyUSB0.

lsof | grep ttyUSB0

Unfortunately, this will only tell you if something is using it at the
moment.

3. It's worth looking at the details of your USB connection:

lsusb -v -d 0403:6015

[weewx-user] Re: sftp extension and ED25519 encryption

2020-04-27 Thread WindnFog
OK, I fixed it. It was the version of paramiko that was messing things
up. If you are using a Pi with Raspbian 10 (Buster), you can't use the
default paramiko you get by default. You have to upgrade:

pip install --user --upgrade paramiko

The default is 2.6.0 and the above command ups it to 2.7.1, which (combined
with 2.7.0), has release notes fixing a lot of things . . .

Re: [weewx-user] Thanks a Lot Darksky (NOT!!)

2020-04-27 Thread Pat
I'd like to upgrade to bootstrap 4, but it did some very bad things to the
charts. I've got it on the list of things.

The new alerts are in-line with the skin now just like the almanac popup,
no longer an external link. Aeris does not provide a link to their source,
only the alert details. So I show it in the skin now. Here's an example
attached.

No, but my wind does not pass muster with QC, and don't currently have
the means to mount it 10m above any building because my wife would poop
on that idea.  I could maybe relocate my station at the local FD or
something.

All the packets are now showing up at FINDU now.  They are not missing a
beat since I singled out one known good server.

Re: [weewx-user] Thanks a Lot Darksky (NOT!!)

2020-04-27 Thread G Hammer
The new bootstrap is an improvement too I think.
Prior, I'd get a failure on the first report cycle, then next cycle the
file would be downloaded and all was well.
This time, the file was downloaded first cycle.

No alerts here, so I'll have to see if Aeris is better about my location
straddling two warning areas.

So thanks.  I guess there was no problem on my end after all.  That is
unless some gates are tolerating some error in formatting that I have

Hope it works. Your data is flying up to findu. Regarding the humidity,
I am going to get the temp/humidity sensor. Cheapest way to go instead of
coding it into a modified driver.
You did register with CWOP, correct?

Thanks,

I installed the extension as per Matthew's instructions here:

https://github.com/matthewwall/weewx-sftp

My weewx.conf section is as follows:

   [[SFTP]]
   skin = sftp
   user = pdunphy
   private_key = /root/.ssh/id_ed25519
   server = palang.ca
   port =
   path = public_html

The error suggests paramiko might not be handling the key properly. I am
using Ed25519 elliptic curve cryptography that I thought should work. I'd
use regular RSA, but the "guy on the other end" wants Ed25519. Should this
work, or is it limited to RSA/DSA cryptography?

Or . . . am I missing something else?

Re: [weewx-user] Raspberry pi USB disconnects

2020-04-27 Thread Tom Keffer
Don't know what you mean by "Mine is a serial port on Vue side."

"usb issue must be on pi side." Not sure what you're asking here but, yes,
the USB plugs into the pi, and that's where the assignment to /dev occurs.

The very short screenshot you included doesn't offer many clues as to the
cause.

The output from 'dmesg' may also give clues.

Yes, ferrite coils tend to help.

Oh, and it's possible to save putty sessions. For example, see this web
page:
https://kerneltalks.com/tips-tricks/how-to-save-putty-session-output-automatically/

Screen shots don't work very well. They save a tiny area, and take a lot of
space.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: sds011 install

2020-04-27 Thread steeple ian
Hello Stefan,

I set up a new skin with a tmpl like this: -

#errorCatcher Echo
##
## Specifying an encoding of UTF-8 is usually safe, but if your text is
## actually in Latin-1, then you should replace the string "UTF-8" with
"latin-1"
## If you do this, you should also change the 'Content-Type' metadata below.
#encoding UTF-8
##
pm2_5 = $current.pm2_5.format(add_label=False, $localize=False)
pm10_0 = $current.pm10_0.format(add_label=False, $localize=False)

it creates a txt file which I then rsync this file to my main WeeWX
installation. I then use filepile.py to insert the data into my main
database. The database is the extended version for the upcoming WeeWX 4
which contains new fields for particle concentration data. From there it
should be possible to use the data to create the chart.

I am using Highcharts on my site (https://claydonsweather.org.uk). You can
see the charts by clicking on the yearly and weekly chart links at the
bottom of the Air Quality module.

If you need a more detailed explanation I will create a repository on
Github for you or anybody else interested.

That would definitely explain it.  Because as far as I can tell all my
posts have been successful, but not all of my packets make it out on the
APRS net.  Also, I have noticed all of the hostnames that I have tried
use round robin DNS to distribute the load, but a handful of CWOP-*
servers are represented in the data.  For example, I might see CWOP-7
and CWOP-3, but other numbers are missing.  That does kind of lead me to
believe that maybe some servers are accepting my posts, but not in turn
relaying them correctly to the APRS network.  I would imagine that
anyone putting their data on the net via inet APRS gateways would be
having the same snaggle tooth data unless they are accessing one known
good server.  I did edit my .conf to only access the ei3rcw node.  Let's
see what happens.  Worst case I can set up a radio packet node.  I do
have a radio and TNC, but I am using it for a PBBS.

Thank you,

Chris KQ6UP

Yet I can’t see the API to return the forecast when used from weewx directly.
Using a CLI command it does work (thus the 1 hit on the page for the day)

I only have python installed on my weather machine/http host, and I copied the

 in the weewx configuration file, add a 'driver' line to the SDS011
 stanza:

 [SDS011]
 model = NovaPM
 port = /dev/ttyUSB01
 poll_interval = 10
 driver = user.sds011

 you might have to modify the port, depending on how your device is
 connected. optionally modify the model to match the branding of your
 sds011 hardware.

 the installer was not written correctly - it incorrectly cleared the
 SDS011 stanza after prompting for the information. i have updated the
 sds011 package to 0.2 to fix this mistake.

2020-04-27 Thread John Ronan
Morning,

Apologies, I'm only catching up on posts now

A few days go I noticed that not all CWOP servers are accepting data. I
haven't heard that the issue has been resolved.

I don't have a list to hand, but I'll try and find it.

cwop.ei3rcw.ampr.org is accepting data, you might try testing only on
that one to rule it out.

Cheers

By word of explanation, I am for myself using a beta version of the
