Need to upgrade from your 2 by 4 to a 4 by 4? ;) One thing I forgot to say in my rant is consider anyone over the above of 18 is "registered to vote" in Sweden the percentage SHOULD be lower than in a country where you have to actually register your intent to vote to be allowed to vote and yet around 85% vote there vs 65% here. ;P At times I wonder how many knows how and what they need to do to register to vote (I would hope everyone that are allowed to register to vote knows). But even further how many actually knows right now (no matter registered to vote or not) where they should go to vote? In Sweden once your 18 and upon the next election you get your voting card sent to you by mail which shows when and where you are expected to vote. I still get the vote card even after living 10 years here in the US (ashamed to say that I have not voted the last 2 elections but then I have very minimal clue what going on political back in Sweden).. FYI for anyone not knowing yes I'm still Swedish citizen and not a US citizen so am not allowed to vote in the US elections (I'm a legal alien ;) so anyone that meet me can claim they meet an alien... lol ) Alright back to my corner.. Drats said my last post was my 1 a year off topic now I consumed 2 years worth of non topic posts... / Eje -Original Message- From: wireless-boun...@wispa.org [mailto:wireless-boun...@wispa.org] On Behalf Of Butch Evans Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2010 11:00 AM To: WISPA General List Subject: Re: [WISPA] Follow up article On Tue, 2010-02-02 at 00:06 -0600, Eje Gustafsson wrote: > I could really go at it and say that Americans should be ASHAMED of > themselves. I just think we were at a disadvantage from day 1 because Obama had a Blackberry, so was well versed on the value of mobility. But he didn't have a Fixed Wireless to his home to fully understand its value equally. Actually, his field locations often do, but not sure he knows. :-) PS. I know, shouldn't be talking politics. Re: [WISPA] Follow up article
Oddly, I was a McCain fan a few years ago, even when I didn't agree with him on a fair number of issues-but he seemed to have some backbone. However, I was pretty disgusted by his pandering in the last election and voted for Obama. But then, I felt (and still feel) that Obama is a lot more moderate/conservative than most of his party realizes. Note that this by no means makes him a conservative-just more conservative than the majority of his backers seem to understand. When I was on the school board out this way, I used to publicly say I'd rather have twice the voter turn out and lose than half the turn out and win, whether for my own re-election or on the yearly public vote on the budget. You can imagine the gasps of indignation from certain elements of the electorate by that statement. The lack of participation, whatever the outcome, undermines our institutions. The problem with politicians is simple. They have stopped thinking along the lines of what is right and wrong morally Instead - they think along the lines of legality: is this legal or illegal. If there is no law to stop something - then its considered legal - even if morally wrong! In seminary I had to study words a whole bunch - amazing what you learn when you break apart a word down to its roots... The multi-party systems develop the same problems as two-party systems... They become cloistered, inbred, and eventually run by a network of insiders, by, for, and for the benefit of, themselves. The only way in this country for the forseeable future is for something like the Tea Party to put enough candidates into both partys to take over and pass some serious reforms. Term Limits, Tort reform, Constitutional balanced budget amendment (with a provision to kick them all out of office if they don't). Although I would pay more in tax, I would like to see all government fees and taxes constitutionally abolished and replaced with a flat sales tax at the point of sales only. No damn VAT tax where they hide the true tax. My 0.02 anyway. On Tue, Feb 2, 2010 at 12:27 AM, RickG wrote: > One day soon - either Ron Paul or someone like him. Indeed. I am a conservative, but anyone that stays too far from their party's intent is worse for their party than the other is to that intent. I think everyone should have a sign over their heads that says if they voted or not, relative to what they're talking about. If they didn’t vote (and had an opportunity), then they should be ignored. This goes for anything political, your local chamber of commerce, WISPA, etc. I did vote in the last WISPA election, so I have the right to bitch if I don't like the way something is being handled. - Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com -- From: "Brad Belton" Sent: Tuesday, February 02, 2010 7:29 AM To: "'WISPA General List'" Subject: Re: [WISPA] Follow up article > There's nothing wrong with the two party system. That's something that has always irked me. Congress got the ball rolling when the term limits were created for the office of the President, yet we cannot get that same body to set limits for themselvesmakes you wonder. The other part of this that bothers me, is how clueless the American people are when it comes to voting for congressional and state representatives in the district they live in. If people want change they have NO CHOICE but to pull the lever against the incumbent in their own districts. I don't care how good a job they might be doing, as a citizen you may hate and disapprove of every other representative, but you have NO RIGHT to vote those others out of office by virtue of WHERE you are registered to vote. The politicians know this very well. This is why you see all kinds of obscure grants and government projects get approved with oversized checks and press conferences just before an election. These are what congress calls member line item projects, others call them pork barrel projects. The reality is they are buying votes for those who pull the lever and have short term memory. It breeds politicians who think they are invincible and not accountable to the people, but rather to the political system in the houses where they hold seats. If the public were to en masse vote every incumbent out of office, it MIGHT give a wake up call to these folks that they should answer to their constituents rather than the dysfunctional system they do today. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Re: [WISPA] Follow up article
This isn't really that big of a deal. The DNS root servers just refer to the top level domain servers. All transferring control to the ITU would enable is they could add new TLDs through whichever process they want. Note that policy control of the root servers does not translate into operational control of the root servers. The root server operators (http://www.root-servers.org/) diverse enough that I doubt the UN or whoever could get away with removing a TLD pointer. Example: Cogent hosts a root server farm. Lets say the ITU wants to remove the pointer to .com. Do you really think Cogent would allow that change to go through (or not reverse the change) since most of their customers would get pissed off that their favorite web sites don't come up? Control over pointers to .com/.tw/etc does not convey censorship ability on domains below the TLD. If you want something to be alarmed about with regards to ITU/UN control over the internet take a look at attempts to get their claws into IPv6 address assignments: http://www.circleid.com/posts/the_geography_of_internet_addressing/ P.S. Blakeman Without the ingenuity of America's brightest minds and the investment of U.S. taxpayer dollars, there would be no Internet, as we now know it today. Now, the Obama administration has moved quietly to cede control of the Web from the United States to foreign powers. Some background: The Internet came into being because of the genius work of Americans Dr.Robert E. Kahn and Dr. Vinton G. Cerf. These men, while working for the Department of Defense in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in the early 1970s, conceived, designed, and implemented the idea of "open-architecture networking." This breakthrough in connectivity and networking was the birth of the Internet. These two gentlemen had the vision and the brainpower to create a worldwide computer Internet communications network that forever changed the world and how we communicate in it. They discovered that providing a person with a unique identifier (TCP/IP)that was able to be recognized and interact through a network of servers would allow users to communicate with others. The servers woulduse a series of giant receivers to recognize the identifier and connect networks to networks, passing on information from computer to computer in a seamless real-time exchange of information. This new process of communication became know as the "information super highway," aka, the Internet. Now for the bad news: In an effort to show the world how inclusive, sharing, cooperative, and international America can be, the Obama administration set off on a plan to surrender control and key management of the Internet by the U.S. Department of Commerce and its agents. The key to the control America has over the Internet is through the management of the Domain Name System (DNS) and the giant servers that service the Internet. Domain names are managed through an entity named IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. The IANA, which operates on behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS, IP addressing, and other Internet protocol resources. In short, without an IP Address or other essential Internet protocols, a person or entity would not have access to the Internet. For years, the international community has been pressuring the United States to surrender its control and management of the Internet. They want an international body such as the United Nations or even the International Telecommunications Union, (an entity that coordinates international telephone communications), to manage all aspects of the Internet in behalf of all nations. The argument advanced for those seeking international control of the Internet is that the Internet has become such a powerful, pervasive, and a dependent form of international communications, that it would be dangerous and inequitable for any one nation to control and manage it. Just this past spring, within months of Obama's taking office, his administration, through the Department of Commerce, agreed to relinquish some control over IANA and their governance. The Obama administration has agreed to give greater representation to foreign companies and countries on IANA. This amounts to one small step for internationalism and one giant leap for surrendering America's control over an invention we have every right and responsibility to control and manage. It is in America's economic and national security interests not to relinquish any control. We are responsible for the control, operation, and functionality of one of the modern world's greatest inventions and most powerful communications network. What better country to protect the Internet than the United States? We invented it, and we paid for the research and implementation that made it possible. We are the freest, most tolerant nation on earth, we believe in the fundamental right of free speech, and we practice a free market of commerce and ideas. America has always been against censorship and has shared its invention with the world without fee or unreasonable or arbitrary restriction. The user fee to operate on the Internet is not one paid to the U.S. government; a consumer pays it to private Internet companies, who provide access to the Internet through servers for their subscribers. Re: [WISPA] Follow up article
Every vote counts. For every guy that thinks not there is two other that don't vote. If people came over this mentality your vote would matter because no matter what people think they are not alone in their believes. Look at the 2008 President election StateMargin Missouri 0.14% NC 0.32% Indiana 1.04% NE 2nd cong dist 1.19% MT 2.25% Florida 2.82% Ohio 4.59% (your state) These states represented 88 electoral votes States/districts with margin more than 5% but less than 10 represented another 64 electoral votes. Missouri there was a total of 3903 votes difference. Never say a vote do NOT count. I could really go at it and say that Americans should be ASHAMED of themselves. You bitch you moan about government and politics but only 63% of those that bothered to register to vote did vote in the last election for president. The SADEST part about it is that was a 10million voter increase over previous election. There is some 210million people registered to vote 132million bothered. Take this in comparison with say Sweden (which I know a lot of since I'm original from there) In Sweden you do NOT have to registered to vote. Once your 18 you are not only eligible to vote but your expected to vote. Consider there is no obligation and everyone 18 and older is considered a "registered voter". In the last 30 years (vote for Parliament, no we don't have a president or king with powers) the LOWEST voting record was 80.1% and highest 91.8% turn out to vote. So end of 2012 anyone here I do not want to hear that they didn't vote. Go vote and while you are at it bring a friend or three to vote as well. Your voice can be heard. I'm sure there are at least 4000 people in Missouri that are today glad they voted to show the color of their state. North Carolina there is probably 14000 people today that wished they had voted. well - I always think it is important to vote... but... my motto is simple: go Vote - choose the one that wont hurt me the most ... on the way home stop @ the store and buy 2 gallons of bleach turn on a bath and then disinfect... I have not voted to this day, to be honest. It is the masses and "the public" that votes and they well out number me. Josh How does it feel to be in the middle of a state where your vote hardly matters? I, in NJ had the same issue until recently. Let's hope the larger cities finally wake the heck up! I was just wondering about this the other day. It seems that we (USA) give things away so freely only to have them used against us. In the case of the net, I find it ironic that the very thing we developed is being used to attack our government and our people in so many ways yet we let everyone connect to it. I think we should start cutting of the ilk that hack or attempt to hack into our networks. -RickG On Mon, Feb 1, 2010 at 11:31 PM, Chuck Profito wrote: > >From NewsMax: > > Obama Surrendering Internet to Foreign Powers > > Sunday, 31 Jan 2010 06:41 PM Article Font Size > By: Bradley A. >From NewsMax: Obama Surrendering Internet to Foreign Powers Sunday, 31 Jan 2010 06:41 PM Article Font Size By: Bradley A. Look no further than China's recent move against Google to censor the Internet, and you can envision what can happen when other nations less free than the United States seek to control the Internet beyond even their own borders. America needs to wake up. If we lose control over the management of the Internet, we have given away one of our nation's greatest assets with nothing in return to show for it. The Obama administration's actions will set in motion a slow and complete takeover of the Internet by the United Nations or some other equally U.S.-hostile and unfriendly international body. A
