I have been shopping at Sonic Groove since 1995 when they moved their store
from Brooklyn to Manhattan on Carmine Street(I never made it to the Brooklyn
store). The first record I bought there was Robert Hood Internal Empire
2xEP. They were always my main source for records. They use to get
They;re are some here, right ;)
Just stumbled upon a new album being released on Logistic by someone named
Yoshihiro Hanno working under the name RadiQ. Album is called Graffitti
and Rude Boy '67 and it melds click-hop and dub and jazz in a way that I
think Pole has only partially suceeded and

How would you compare it to the 21st Century Soul from a few years back ? I
found that a bit overproduced and as we say on the list 'jazz noodles lite'.
I think its out today.
Yet another stellar set, T - nice and eclectic

A new mix is up on my site in 160 kbps mp3. 2 hours 43 minutes. Ambience,
house,
doesn't help that when you go in to the shop you get the cold shoulder
either.
I don't live in NYC but when I visited I had the worst never seen you
before so we'll just ignore you and treat you poorly when you ask a
question
experience out of any NYC records store I've been into
put me off
I'm based in London and when ever I have been to NYC I have never had that
cold shoulder business when ever I have been into the store, they always
treated me great. Even giving me money off records.
Its a shame its gone.

I haven't actually heard 21st century soul - so can't really comment on it.
I suppose you could call it overproduced in that the LP doesn't have
the roughness or simplicity of say a UR track, but I like his
musical ideas - he has lots of good ones - and doesn't let them get
out of control,
making a brief trip to NYC this coming weekend, anyone know of any
313(ish)-tinged events going on?

Yeah,
I have to say that although I have a lot of respect for what Sonic
Groove have achieved over the years and am a fan of a lot of the music
that was generated through them, my visit there left me feeling
ambivalent towards them- It was probably the worst treatment I've ever
received in
oh yeah, full respect for what they've done for techno in the US and their
stock was great both online and in the store.
I'm not happy to see them close. Their electro section was fantastic and
the store was very organized (and much smaller than I expected).
I just recall that I asked about
That is just the NYC attitude and not a Sonic Groove thing at all! IMHO

Hey list-
looking for some advice here.
I could use a new backpack for my vinyl. The best one I've seen are the UR
bags. They are made of strong material and have shoulder straps so I can wear
it like a backpack. They also stand upright when full of record (some bags tip
over) and have a

Hi,
I heard a nice qoutation in the outro of a track by anthony shakir (the B1
on the the fake left, go right plan on the songs for my mother ep) that
goes a little like this:
also we remember everyone had their own personal style, everybody had an
identifiable musical style, a musical
True, it is pretty much the NYC attitude, but that doesn't make it any
more palatable.
I used to shop there when I lived in NYC. A number of the people at SG
were aloof, but not nearly as actively bitchy as the people in certain
other stores (like Breakbeat Science, Kims on St Marks, Generation,
I love mardy bastards in record shops, at least that way I figure I don't
end up buying their pick *LOL*
