Well actually in practice you have to get the licence to cover the tune
you want. The licence may cover how much you would pay them per copy
sold, or it could be a one off. The WIPO Copyright Treaty deals with the
right that the copyright owner has to 'communicate to the public'

This Detroit Free Press article was definitely a bit of a surprise:

Based on previous years estimates, I'd have thought the numbers for this
year would've been much higher (41,000 paying attendees). Is the art of
crowd estimation
Honestly,
After I've seen the place, I'm sure than its impossible to get 1 million
people around hartplaza...
100.000 in 3 days is possible...but really high number too ;-)
When you don't have an entrance fee, every (crazy) estimations are possible
But 40.000 was already big !!!

But 40.000 was already big
to an outsider, 40,000 sounds great! it seems the festival can go on from
here, which is great, I wanna go next year.
I can't believe they managed to pull it off with such short notice, and
from all your reports etc, it seems like one of the best yet?!
hope UR play

Holy sh!t - what a show. The Riviera was jam packed sold out just about a
week before the show. Got in the queue and it started raining. Got in
just about five ten minutes before they took the stage. Went upstairs to
the balcony - no room. Tried the mainfloor - down front left speaker

I'll give you that but you're also not pressing up copies and selling them
as if you owned the material. Just because you buy something doesn't mean
bullsh*t - the bootleggers own the means to reproduce and thus continue to
sell for a profit far beyond the dealer/collector

it might take years before they find another copy

Who ever is bootlegging these Buzz records should be strung up by their
b*lls once for bootlegging it, and then again for the crap quality of the
pressings.
yeah shady people. especially for the fact that they have the sleeve,
centre labels etc all made to look legit.

For a royalty system for sampling - it's the same as any other way of
doing licences - you go to the person who wrote the track and ask for
permission to use it.
i remember reading an article about
if this is anything like as good as the other two on FF then i'm there...

It was fantabulous, as you could expect!!! They played the standards

humorous animation to go with

I was having a conversation with my wife about the Kraftwerk show
it's taken her a while for her to get into them
first time I played their music in the car (years ago) she couldn't stand
it and would make fun of me
slowly she came around to some songs but still didn't like others

Anyone know if they'll be doing a DVD for the 2004-2005 tour? The stage

well, Minimum Maximum is supposed to be released either with a DVD
component (enhanced CD?) or will be a separate release.

Indeed. My three-year-old son loves Kraftwerk and likes to sing Robots
at preschool. His teachers were baffled when Mr. Tom Cox and I tried to
explain his fascination with a bunch of kooky Germans. It's really quite
surprising how few people have heard of them.

I saw them in Detroit on Friday. I also hope they put out a DVD of the
tour--what incredible visuals. We staked out a spot right in middle and
about 10 feet from the stage at the State Theater. When the Tour de France
visuals came on it was like you were on a bike in the Pyrenees--holy sh*t!

I think most people in Europe are aware of them, but only to the extent that if
you mention them to a non-cognoscenti, they tend to raise their eyebrows and
make stiff armed movements and say 've ar de robots'.

still the same deal. obviously if you want access to masters they will
charge you more. I would. but that's not to say if you want to get a
little sample, they wont' charge you through the roof to use it. better
