No one has mentioned it so far, so thought I would.
Detroit's Jimmy Edgar is playing a live set at the warp halloween party next
friday. He plays techno oriented glitch-hop and IMHO his stuff is
fantastic - prefuse 73 / machinedrum / funkstorong style. He played at the

on the subject of italo can anyone recommend some tracks with this kind of
sound that are available to buy on vinyl currently. I remember at the
second retroverts night earlier this year in london Jon Reynolds playing
some amazing
tunes with the italo sounds but a tighter, more modern production.
definitely one of my favourites so far this year, and yeah the more one
listens to it the more the sound opens up. He did a mix recently on cocooon
called taka taka - also excellent. and I hear he's got a great presence
while dj'ing. really hope he plays in london soon!

any tips on best of the lot are appreciated?
my favourite of these records is Xenia / Wanda.
there's a collection of some of them on the Rosa album CD
I remember jon moore playing a hip hop version of the day the teddy bears
had their picnic - what a mad tune, everyone with big smiles on their faces
bouncing about to that one. Yeah the house at the end was great - I
remember the morgan geist remix of disco train and a metro area track.
IMHO

i've been thinking about this and for me it's the classic walkman and old

that's def on volume 2, I think he was using doubles for man with the red

also check out Wax Doctor, Alex Reece and Pim - very detroit influenced drum

There's a mix CD or two out there as well that are worth checking.
Yeah, they're both called Plus, one is mixed by Siegling the other by Amil

melodic and even housey with none of the booty bass stuff that you get with

How is Blake Baxter as a DJ? I've only heard one vinyl of his, which was

motown sounding samples. Oh and the track he did with Trevor Rockliffe I

While the topic is detroit and hip, may I recommend detroit artist Jimmy
Edgar who records as Morris Nightingale and Kristuit Salu. He does
prefuse73 style hip hop / idm / techno influenced - definitely worth
checking:
check http://www.m3rck.net/html/discog/009.html for previews of his album
Good question! I find that however many great tunes you may play them, they
won't 'get it' until they hear it loud in a club being DJ'd properly and
dancing with others to it. So I drag them to nights like Lost, then they
understand -- the Atkins / Hood sets last Sunday proved it to quite a few
with rewind requests etc but it feels much more genuine to me at a techno
night...

The amount of stupid questions you get asked would test the patience of a

Working at HMV one summer, I got asked by this large, middle aged guy if we
had the song that went with a particular line-dance, he then proceeded to do
the dance in front of me and all the customers.
I enjoyed his album Asuma on the Vienna based Mego label. I find it more
structured and accessible than the Pan Sonic material that I've heard.

I've been thinking about this a lot myself lately. Back in 95 I read an
