Interesting. My Department also purchased the Enterprise Zmanda license
to get NDMP support. However our lastest upgrade on the file server
changed the NDMP requirements and Zmanda can no longer use it. I've
switched to have Zmanda use NFS, which I could do with regular open
source Amanda.
start sending in the estimates, and about 3/4's of the time, the
server processes just die. The end of the amdump log file just has
estimate info at the end, no errors.
Any suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

x27;s tape which only has an incremental, its not prompting for the
most recent level 0 at all. I can work around it manually, but
amrecover has always worked "normally" for me in the past.

That being said, these days I may well lean towards LTO. I've heard very
good things about the hardware compression in LTO drives.
Regarding external vs. internal, I strongly prefer external. Tape drives
can get hot.

tell us they think ndmp was getting rolled into amanda but I don't see

From My experience, 17gigs of a (few) large files does not take a long
time.
On the other hand, backing up a large amount of files in a (single)
directory takes a long time. The orig tar that came with this (linux)
sys readily reached 80% cpu usage. The later tar fixed
u probably want to back it up with tar - i suppose. There is not enough
info, but i could guess ur using dump.

DLT's are not flying head technology. They are like 9trk, QIC, i think
travan, colorado. The heads do not spin ( i had to think about it ), as
the heads move up & down to change tracks. But the DLT 8000, now, also
place the heads at an angle to tape direction, as well as going up and

Maybe they can OPT-OUT of the feature, but on a busy site, allowing the
customers to access the tape drives, would appear to make good business

Is there some reason why the tape is not at least rewind-offlined, or
for tape changer folks rewoffl/unload'ed back to the ca
technically yes. A DLT-IV tape is the tape of choice on a quantum 7000,
and quantum 8000. I do not know, however, if the tape that was written
with a 7000 series, and later re-used on an 8000 if it would be reliable

This first thing I would do is double-check the permissions on your NT
box.. make sure that the computer is actually sharing the folder you
wish to backup, and that your backup server is allowed to "see" it. A
good test of this would be to try to connect to that share using
smbclient.. i

learn about amanda, is to trust it. We've been using it in our shop for
years and it has *never* let us down. It will tell you through the
reports it generates if you are asking too much of it so you can adjust

Can you pls tell me what gives this away as a failed run? To me, it
looks very much like a sendbackup*debug from a successful run (i have my
sources ;). The time elapsed is small because only a very small
directory was involved.

^C'ing out and retrying produces much the same thing. What could be
